Wildflower Ridge #2

Coming Up Roses

Rate this book
“What’s complicated about a bit of fun between two consenting adults?”

Abigail Fletcher finally has her life together. There's just one thing left to do: reconnect with her five-year-old daughter, Sadie, who she left three years ago, her anxiety telling her Sadie would be better off without her.

Moving to the small town of Kauri Creek, Abigail lands an incredible job as an event manager at Wildflower Ridge, the same property where Sadie lives with her dad, and the family they now call their own.

Determined to prove she's a capable, reliable and lovable parent, Abi throws herself into work and building connections with Sadie and the people in her life.

But she never bargained on Flynn Woods, the charming farmhand who seems hellbent on getting her to loosen up. He's everything she's not - easy going, relaxed, sure of his place within his found-family, and when neither can deny their attraction, their friendship quickly develops into more: some no strings fun in the bedroom.

Despite his influence on Abigail's life, not even Flynn can protect her from her own mind, or his ghosts, and the pair will need to decide if they're willing to open their hearts to each other, or figure out a way to continue being 'just friends'.

Coming Up Roses is a spicy small town romance between an event planner reconnecting with her daughter after battling anxiety, and a charming farmhand who helps her loosen up the reins. Coming Up Roses features friends with benefits, a virgin MMC, only one bed (and more than one bed) and a single mum with a twist.

Abigail Fletcher is determined to rebuild her life and reconnect with her daughter, Sadie, after three years apart. Taking a job at Wildflower Ridge, the very place where Sadie now lives with her dad and his family, she throws herself into proving she’s a capable, loving mother. What she didn’t expect was Flynn Woods, the easy going farmhand who seems intent on getting her to loosen up. What starts as a casual, no-strings connection quickly turns into something deeper, with both of them carrying the weight of their pasts, they must decide if they’re willing to take a chance on love

This book was everything I wanted and more. The emotional depth, the romance, the humour, and the beautifully written mental health representation made it such a compelling read. Abigail’s struggles with anxiety were handled with so much care, making her journey back into Sadie’s life incredibly moving. Her determination to be the mother her daughter deserves while still battling her own fears made her an easy character to connect with and root for

Flynn was the ultimate golden retriever MMC!! Charming, caring, and always ready to support Abigail in whatever way she needed. He had such a natural warmth that made him instantly lovable, and seeing his own personal struggles unfold added even more depth to his character. His bond with his brother Hunter was especially interesting, and I cannot wait to read more about their dynamic in future books!

One of my favourite aspects of the story was the found family element. The people in Abigail’s life, particularly Katie and Dallas, were so incredibly supportive and welcoming. It was refreshing to see co-parenting written in such a mature and positive way, especially with Katie being such a kind and encouraging presence. Rather than the stereotypical "evil stepmother" trope, she was genuinely invested in helping Abigail reconnect with Sadie, which was so heart warming to read.

The humour in this book was also such a highlight, especially with the fun and witty chapter titles. The New Zealand setting made everything even more special, adding to the cosy small-town charm that I absolutely adored. Plus, I now desperately need the cupcake recipe mentioned in the book!

This story took some familiar romance tropes and gave them a fresh twist, making them feel unique and exciting. The "only one bed" moment? Perfect. The friends-with-benefits dynamic that slowly developed into something more? So well done. And the way Flynn’s virgin trope was written? Absolutely fantastic. Every element of this book was crafted with so much care, making it a standout in the small-town romance genre

Between the emotional storytelling, lovable characters, and swoon-worthy romance, Coming Up Roses has cemented Elle Ashwell as a new favourite author for me. I can’t wait to see what she writes next! Especially if it involves Tilly, because I need more of her immediately!

Thank you so much to Elle for gifting me a copy of your book!!

In preparation for the release of book 4, I have put some pressure on myself to catch up in The Wildflower Ridge, so we have started with book 2 in this series. I have been so excited to get to this one! I loved Flynn in book one so I wanted to see how his story and romance was going to unfold.

In book one, Flynn is shown as this carefree guy who loves to joke about but when we actually get into his head, he has a lot going on. He doesn’t feel like people take him seriously, and he believes he doesn’t deserve a serious relationship and someone to choose him first.

Abi also has a lot of trauma and deals with severe panic attacks due to something that happened a few years ago. Watching her come face-to-face with her issues and taking steps to deal with her trauma and heal them. I loved the growth both of these characters had throughout the story.

I love how easily Abi slotted into life on Wildflower ridge and they became a beautiful blended family. Sadie is one of my favourite characters in this book, and seeing the amount of love and support she has around her is amazing.

The spice was so hot, and I loved that. Although Flynn was inexperienced, he had this very hot dominant side to him that was fun to watch him explore.

This was such a great read, and I highly recommend it!

Thank you, Elle, for the opportunity to read this book!

What a refreshing kiwi based rom after I've been neck deep in books with magic, mayhem, blood and gore.

Thats not to say there isn't magic in this book- it's a different kind of magic. The magic of knowing you get a HEA, a sweet romance based in New Zealand and the opportunity to read about a single mum and her kid and building relationships .
Don't forget to chuck in the hot farmer boy too 😉

5 stars all around- absolutely adored this read and can't wait to read more from Elle!!

Content warning: brief mentioning of a car accident that resulted in the death of a main character's parents and subsequent grief and trauma, descriptive depictions of anxiety and panic attacks, illness requiring brief hospitalisation of a child, previous horse riding accident with a child resulting in guilt, grief, severe anxiety, and abandonment of parental role discussed.

Thank you to the author for a digital copy to review. All thoughts are my own.

The world of Kauri Creek and Wildflower Ridge got better on this second visit. I really liked Flynn and Abigail as characters, once I settled into the story's rhythm. I adored how vulnerable they allowed themselves to become together, and how their mutual friends with benefits quickly morphed into something bigger than they expected.

I loved the wholesome found-family vibe of the farm and I appreciated reading about Abi finding her support network in these people and learning that she could rely on more than herself. Flynn's storyline, especially with how poorly he could view himself at times, was just as intriguing, and I appreciated the author's decision to make him unsure of who he was in some ways in life whilst painting him as the biggest green flag there ever did exist. Flynn is like an adorable golden retriever who has so much love within himself that he doesn't know how to give it out or receive it well, and I'm so glad he found confidence and realised just how amazing he was. Both characters struggle throughout the majority of this book quite hard with insecurities about what they can offer to others, and more often than not, what they feel they aren't able to achieve, and it's cathartic watching the pair reach out and tell the other how much more they can be if they just try to work through it. I liked that Ashwell didn't just bring up topics like anxiety with panic attacks and terrible loneliness with enforced seclusion so they don't get too used to a good thing, but deep dived into them. The author let both Flynn and Abigail show their hearts to the reader and to each other, and let them heal in each other's company. This was a great execution of character development and I appreciated it how relatable and real it made them feel.

The romance was well-paced and built a solid emotional connection between the pair that made it all the more believable as things heated up. Flynn is inexperienced here, but I like the way the passionate scenes are written. It feels realistic to have him too eager or fumbling initially, but when he takes control (and boy does he do a great job of that!) and starts to explore more of Abi and his sexual preferences, it's rewarding to see this man who is so worried about not being enough, filling out all the places in someone who desperately needs his type of love. It was beautifully written, and as someone who doesn't necessarily need as many spicy scenes as this book has (definitely felt like a step up from book one's level of sexual scenes), I could appreciate the way the spice complimented the work Ashwell did in setting up their connection between the pair.

Coming Up Roses is the best book to come from this author (who writes under another name with her YA books that I've also read), and I'm very excited to see where the next book in this series takes us.

How do I get to Kauri Creek!? Because I feel like it's where I need to be! 🤠❤️

I loved the novella and book 1 of the Wildflower Ridge series, and book 2 has not disappointed!

🌹Coming up Roses🌹 is about Abi - a mum moving to Kauri Creek hoping to reintegrate into her young daughter's life, and Flynn- a carefree, fun-loving farm hand where Abi's daughter lives. A twist of fate has them working together at Wildflower Ridge where a friendship blooms and their attraction to each other is instant. They're in completely different stages of life and neither want to risk their working relationship but they can't deny the pull they have to each other...

I have to admit I was skeptical of how Abi and Flynn's story would play out, especially with how things would go with Dallas, Sadie, and Katie (read In Full bloom, book 1, to get this story!). But I really liked the way the situation was handled and how the topic of anxiety was broached. The reality of having anxiety as a parent is so real and relatable.
The way Abi went at Flynn's pace, guided him, boosted his confidence and showed him that he is reliable and needed was *chefs kiss*. The way Flynn knew how to get Abi out of her head and be her calming anchor was *double chefs kiss*. They balanced each other out beautifully. And the SPICE! it's hot 🥵
I also loved how they all rallied around Abi to support her to be a part of Sadies life, without judgement, and brought her into the Wildflower Ridge family.

Tropes:
- Small rural town (set in NZ!)
- Dual POV
- Forced proximity
- Opposites attract
- "forbidden" romance
- Virgin, golden retriever MMC
- Single mum FMC
- Mental health rep (anxiety)
- Found family
- Blended family/co-parenting

Elsie Silver, Lyla Sage, Devney Perry fans will adore this cowboy romance series!

Another incredible read from Elle, and I'm so excited for the next book in the series! Thank you Elle for the amazing opportunity to read this book in advance ❤️

Spoiler free review of Coming Up Roses by @elle.ashwell.author

Thank you so much Elle for allowing me to read an ARC of your newest book. The second book in the Wildflower Ridge series will be released tomorrow March 5th!

Ahh to be back in Wildflower Ridge was like diving back into your fave tv show or like going home to see your friends and family after a long time apart.

If you enjoy:
🌹 Small Town Romance
🌹 Forced Proximity
🌹 Workplace Romance
🌹 Anxiety representation
🌹 Single Mum (with a twist)
🌹 Friends with Benefits
🌹 Found Family

Then you will love Coming up Roses! I do strongly recommend that you read In Full Bloom first as it provides more background and insight into the other characters in this world and the amazing found family.

Coming Up Roses follows Abi (Sadie’s mum) as she navigates returning to Sadie’s life and the anxiety over being a mother to Sadie. In the process, she starts a new job on Olivia’s farm meets a very good looking farmhand, Flynn. They start off as FWB but soon realise their connection is so much more.

I think that the representation of anxiety was done so well in this book! Seeing Abi battle with her internal thoughts about not being good enough for Sadie was kinda sad 😢 but the moments between Abi and Sadie were my absolute fave!

Flynn also has had his own troubles and battles, so seeing him happy with Abi was so refreshing and heartwarming.

Overall I really loved this one and was so glad to be back in this world. As I said in my review of book one, these characters feel like they would welcome you into their world with open arms, and I honestly just want to sit down and have a family dinner with them 😂

If you are looking for a small town romance series set in NZ then I would definitely recommend that you check this series out!

A huge thank you to the author for letting me read this ARC! I adored In Full Bloom last year and was so so so excited to read book 2 in the Wildflower Ridge series!

Abi has just moved to Kauri Creek to try and rebuilt her relationship with her young daughter Sadie after leaving her with her father Dallas a few years ago to work on her mental health. She’s understandably nervous, but is soon welcomed by all those at Wildflower Ridge. Flynn, the farmhand, is especially welcoming, and she loves his easy going nature and sense of humour. Soon their friendship turns into an attraction, but Abi isn’t looking for anything serious, as her focus is Sadie. Flynn is soon falling for Abi though, and the question is whether they can open themselves up to each other, or deny their attraction and find a way to simply stay friends.

I started this late yesterday and finished it before bed it was THAT GOOD. I absolutely adored Flynn - he gives me big golden retriever vibes and I just loved him so much. Abi was also fantastic, and I appreciated how her mental health struggles were portrayed - as someone who also deals with anxiety I found myself relating to her a lot. Lady Sadie once again shone - she is by far my favourite little lady! The spice was also 👌👌👌 This series has just completely stolen my heart and we’re only two books in! If you enjoy Elsie Silver, Chloe Liese or Devney Perry I highly recommend you check this series out! It’s like my favourite parts from those books are all in this with a kiwi setting that I just adore. This releases March 5th, so you’ve got time to read book 1 first (and I recommend you do read in order to get the backstory for this one). I am now impatiently awaiting book 3 to get my next Kauri Creek fix!

Elle Ashwell you have done it again! Hot and yet sweet. Full review to come after publication but all I can say is this is my favourite in the series so far, and I need more!!

UPDATED REVIEW:

Elle Ashwell, you’ve done it again! Coming Up Roses is the perfect mix of heartfelt and steamy, delivering an emotional romance that completely pulled me in. I adored In Full Bloom, but this one? Easily my new favourite in the Wildflower Ridge series!

Set in the cosy small town of Kauri Creek, this book follows Abigail, a single mum determined to rebuild her relationship with her daughter, and Flynn, the laid-back farmhand who unexpectedly becomes her safe place. What starts as a casual arrangement soon turns into something much deeper, and watching these two work through their fears, insecurities, and undeniable chemistry was chef’s kiss perfection.

💛 Highlights:
✨ Abi & Flynn’s Growth – Their journey from keeping things light to realising just how much they mean to each other was beautifully done. Abi helps Flynn build confidence, while Flynn reminds Abi she doesn’t have to face everything alone.
✨ The Wildflower Ridge Family – The warmth and support of this community made my heart so full. Watching Abi find her place among them, without judgment, was so moving.
✨ Flynn = Peak Green Flag 🚩 – A sweet, self-doubting farmhand with golden retriever energy and a virgin MMC? Perfection. Seeing him find his confidence made me love him even more.
✨ Authentic Mental Health Rep – Anxiety, self-doubt, and loneliness are explored with care and depth, making both characters feel incredibly real. Their emotional support for each other was everything.
✨ SPICE! 🌶️ – This book definitely brings the heat! The intimacy felt so natural because the emotional connection was already so strong.

Coming Up Roses is all about second chances, healing, and finding the people who make a place feel like home. If you love small-town romance with depth, heart, and just the right amount of steam, this one’s an absolute must-read.

Now, who do I need to talk to about moving to Kauri Creek? 🤠💖

🌿 Tropes You’ll Love:
🏡 Small-town romance (NZ setting!)
🫶 Found family
🔥 Friends with benefits → something real
💛 Opposites attract
🥹 Single mum & blended family dynamics
🌾 Sweet but spicy farmhand MMC
🧠 Thoughtful mental health rep

Big thanks to Elle Ashwell for the eARC! As always, all thoughts are my own.

I devoured this second installment in Wildflower ridge. I love a small town, forbidden romance and Coming up Roses did not dissapoint!
All my favourite things from a cozy, small town romance with the added touch of being set in NZ

-Forced proximity
-Found family
-Small town
-Spice
-Anxiety rep

Flynn is such a golden retriver MMC, lighthearted, fun and carefree, the opposite to Abigail but maybe just what she needs. I loved seeing them balance each other out, Flynn helping Abi realise how strong and capable she is while also pushing her to relax and have fun. Abi helping Flynn realise he is more than the happy go lucky guy with no responsibilitis and is worth loving. It was a delight to read the story of these two opening up to each other and leaning into what they could have if they got out of their own way.

As a mum who has and does struggle with anxiety, I appreciated the mental health rep within the book. Abi's anxiety struggles felt raw and real and her determination and resiliance shone through. The found family aspect of the story is beautiful and it warmed my heart how supportive everyone was of Abi and her stuggles. I loved seeing Abi realise she is more than just her anxiety and that she doesnt have to do it all alone.

The way Flynn automatically knows how to calm Abi down from the start speaks volumes to their connection and what it should be like when you find your person.

All around a sweet & spicy romance which was a delight to read. Perfect for fans of Elsie Silver.

"You’re my perfect balance. You can handle my anxiety without making it feel like a burden and you always make me laugh, no matter what we’re doing. Being with you steadies me in a way I can barely explain, but all I know is I want to be with you all the time too."

I was lucky to receive an ARC of Elle Ashwell's newest book, Coming Up Roses (book two in the Wildflower Ridge Series). It follows the story of Abigail and Flynn.

Coming Up Roses is such a cute, easy-to-read story, and I finished it in less than a day.

I loved being back in the Wildflower Ridge world!

I adored Abigail and Flynn's story and thought they were perfect together.

I felt for Abigail after learning more about her mental health struggles, and I could see pieces of myself in her, which made me able to relate to her more. I loved seeing her growth throughout the book and realising that it is okay to ask for help. You see her come into her own, thanks to Flynn and the others showing her how strong she is and what it means to be supported and loved.

Like Abigail, Flynn was also battling demons and going through struggles of his own. Seeing them both open up and be vulnerable together, and being there and supporting each other melted my heart.

Everyone deserves to have their own Abigail or Flynn in their life. Someone who will stand beside you during your bad days, but also makes your good days better.

I loved the found family aspect in the book. It was everything.

For some reason, I got the ick whenever Abigail would call Flynn sweetheart. Besides that, I enjoyed reading Coming Up Roses.

I can not wait to read Hunter and Willow's story next in Forget Me Not!

Thank you so much to Elle Ashwell for this ARC🤍

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am really, really enjoying the Wildflower Ridge series, and Coming Up Roses has been one of my favourites so far.

I’ve ended up reading the books a little out of order, starting with book one, then book four, and now coming back to book two, and honestly, they’ve just gotten better and better with each one I’ve read. The more time I spend in this world, the more I love the interconnected characters and the strong sense of community around the ridge.

Flynn is an absolute standout and is easily my favourite male character in the series so far. He’s kind, grounded, and completely loveable, and I really enjoyed his story. Abbie’s journey, taking a job at the ridge to reconnect with her daughter after time apart added real emotional depth and the inclusion of anxiety just made it so relatable.

I’ve read most of the series on Kindle Unlimited, but I’m already planning to buy physical copies as shelf trophies because they’re just so darn gorgeous. As a New Zealander, I also love supporting NZ indie authors, and this series is such a joy to read.

where do i even start? i finished both books from this series in the span of a day and a half. coming from new zealand myself it was such a relief to see classic kiwi slang thrown around, but not in an overused, cringey way. it made me feel so at home.

i got completely lost in the life of flynn and abi. i felt a connection to flynn, as that is the exact why all of my friends act; happy, sunshine people with their own ghosts.

abi was also a great character to become immersed in. i truly loved reading the growth she had, and felt that she is a very relatable character for anyone.

my favourite part about the book was watching their connection grow over time, rather than their friends forcing it and/or having negative feelings about their relationship. it allowed the book to feel so natural and easy to read.

overall i am absolutely obsessed with wildflower ridge and can’t wait to read forget me not!!

Quick Look-
Genre: small town romance
Rating: 3.75 ⭐️
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Recommend: yeah

Full review-
I am really glad I read the first book before reading this one! I felt like I was a lot more generous to Abi’s situation. Flynn is the cutest and I absolutely adored his character!!! I love that Abi accepts him as he is and takes it slow. It’s a slow burn mixed with her teaching him, but also he is a fast learner 😜. Abi has come so far and doesn’t give herself enough credit. Once again Lady Sadie is the cutest and the star of the show!! I definitely enjoyed the second book in the Wildflower Ridge series!! I feel a broody MMC coming up next too 😝.

Along with a handsome young farmer named Flynn 🥹

Well Abi rebuilds her relationship with her daughter & settles into her new job, she find a friend in Flynn & an family within Wildflower Ridge 🫶🏼

Get ready for the gushing I will be doing for this story.
I am so grateful to Elle Ashwell for this ARC.

The found family in this story is just the most beautiful touching part in my opinion. And my favourite part is the country kiwiana culture, it had me in stitches at one point.
I am a Mum myself and the beautiful moments between Sadie and Abi just brought tears to my eyes every time!!!
The perfect balance Elle Ashwell has written between the spice & the Family moment not to mention the anxiety representation.
You cannot help but fall in love with the characters in Kauri Creek. I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good romance book.

Sweet, easy to read contemporary romance set on a farm by a NZ author.
A fan of the 'one horse' trope, I'm now a fan of 'one motorbike' 😂
Just like 'In Full Bloom', there were parts that had me giggling, lots of funny banter and inner dialogue.
Lots of open door spice, although perhaps too much for me personally. I would have preferred more story. But I know plenty of readers will devour those scenes! 🤣
I loved the anxiety representation, over coming trauma and how that was dealt with.
Again, found Family, which was so wholesome and enjoyable. Makes me want to live at Wildflower Ridge too!

The second book in the Wildflower Ridge series did not disappoint. What an incredibly sweet and heartfelt story!

I adored watching Sadie and Abi reconnect, and the little family they’ve built in this charming small town completely stole my heart. The close-knit community vibe makes you wish you could pack up and move there yourself. 🏡✨

One of the standout aspects of this book is the way it addresses mental health with care and authenticity. It’s a beautiful reminder of how the love and support of those around us can help us face anything life throws our way. 💕

Does Wildflower Ridge have any vacancies? Because I want a job there!

This is such a wholesome and lovely story. Flynn is such a sweetie, and he is so well matched to Abi. It's such a lovely story about found family, NZ farm life, friends with benefits.... but is it something more? Great anxiety representation, too. I couldn't stop smiling when I finished this book. Just delightful, take me back to Wildflower Ridge 🥰

Thank you so much to Elle Ashwell for sending me the ARC for this book.

I absolutely adored this story (much like the first in the series!). It was such a wonderful story and I love Abi and Flynn, and Sadie is such a cutie!

I loved reading about Abi really finding her place after a time of being uncertain of where she fits in post hiatus.

Flynn is just perfect for Abi and they are the best couple!

Can't wait to read more in the series. Elle Ashwell is an AUTOMATIC READ for me.

Like seriously - can it get any better?!?

Coming Up Roses follows Abi and Flynn. We met both of these characters in book one and I highly suggest reading that before getting stuck into this one.
Abi suffers from anxiety around feeling worthy of her daughter. Her attacks are written so well and it pulls at your heartstrings every time. Flynn has his own demons, and the urge to wrap them both in a warm hug is strong.

I absolutely loved being back at Wildflower Ridge and I can’t wait for book 3.
