I hardly put this series down once I started it. It was great! The characters were all unique, there were various problems and multiple enemies, and there was always something going on. The growth of the characters, both primary and secondary ones, was also very noticeable throughout the books.
Brand seemed to need the least growth in the book, in my opinion. He was raised learning the "old ways" of the pack and wolf laws, which helped him be closer to both his wolf and the moon goddess. The only thing with him was that he feared magic, as most wolves were raised to be. However, as time went on, he learned that there was a balance that was needed. Magic and the power of the moon really had no difference, and that's something he had to come to terms with.
Glen thought his pack was perfect and honorable. It wasn't until Flor came to his pack and opened both his and his parents' eyes to the corruption that was going on right under their noses. Some of it was even due to his own parents' actions. He found he couldn't remain in the pack any longer and had to find a new place for himself. He just knew wherever it was, it would be with Flor.
Flinn was in a tough spot. He seems to push Flor away right from the start. We learn that his pack is a horrible place, and he's suffered for a long time under his parents' thumb. He went through abuse, torture, and did horrible, despicable things under their command. It just got worse when he was older, things that ended up hurting both him and Flor. Flinn felt unworthy of her and was ashamed. He couldn't forgive himself, and certainly didn't expect his mate to forgive him, either. Eventually, some of the weight is lifted off of his shoulders thanks to his brothers, and he begins to fight to become the man he wants to be, was meant to be.
Luke is another who believes he isn't worthy of being Flor's mate. He did what he could go protect her from the cruelty of their pack, but was unable to do much. It takes time for both him and Flor to decide to leave the past in the past and move forward.
Grigor was probably my favourite character, next to Brand. I always love a good psychotic, unhinged, stabby, slightly obsessed guy in the group! To say he has a bad reputation is a complete understatement... and one that he's probably deserved. The guys don't want him anywhere near Flor, but eventuality, one by one, reluctantly acknowledge it's going to happen whether they like it or not. He will do anything for her, including give up his own life (which he nearly does, multiple times). While he only originally cared for her, he helped those that she cared about, even if he found them lacking. Over time, he begins to get closer to the other mates Flor has collected and begins to consider them brothers. He also agrees to maybe tone the psycho back a bit... by making sure anyone who mysteriously becomes a victim at least is deserving of it, first!
The battle is a lengthy part of this book. Considering this whole 4 book series has been leading up to it, I'm glad it wasn't just finished with a single fight or wrapped up in one chapter. Rather, the battle takes up a decent chunk of the book and is told by all of the characters' points of view, sometimes even overlapping, so we don't miss anything vital. It's very well done!
If you like shifters, fated mates, and an underdog story, you'll love this series!
