Rate this book

Eleanor and Alexander

The way these two got together was so very high schoolish. Eleanor found her fiancé cheating on her with her best friend the night before her mating ceremony (aka, wedding). So she quickly deals with that by running to her STBX’s brother Alexander and promptly losing her virginity, thinking that would somehow fix things. It didn’t (of course) and she and Alex find themselves mated (married).

Eleanor isn’t a doormat but she’s rather passive and naive. Alex treats her like she’s a lower lifeform. He’s quite mean and dismissive for about 75% of the book and if it weren’t for the chapters with his POV, you wouldn’t know he had any feelings whatsoever. Eleanor has no friends other than Alex’s sister so she has to navigate all the betrayals, the bullying and all the toxic drama alone. There’s OM drama with her ex-fiancé, OW drama with Alex’s friend with benefits, and later Eleanor starts feeling like pack members know something she doesn’t and Alex is keeping a secret from her. (He is. Everyone is.)

There isn’t cheating on page but honestly with the amount of time he’s away from Eleanor and the mean and horrible things he says to her and the way he treats her, as well as all the hugs, caresses, softness he shows to his friend with benefits partner IN FRONT OF Eleanor, it’s hard to believe he isn’t cheating. He even leaves a party with his arm around his FWB while Eleanor is standing there alone. He doesn’t even hide it. There are several other moments like that where the rest of us in the real world would have definitely accused him of cheating. I should’ve stopped reading at this point.

The truth, aka The Big Secret, comes out really late IMO, way after I already hate Alex and wish he would just die already. There wasn’t enough groveling to make up for the way he treated Eleanor, or the way he allowed his little friend with benefits to undermine Eleanor, or the way he’d just leave her for weeks and months to deal with the toxicity in the pack alone. I didn’t like the ending. It’s a wolf shifter story and taking away a shifter’s ability to shift weakens him and the storyline. Not sure I’ll continue the series.

Okay hang on get comfortable because you won’t put it down until the last page has been turned. Elenore is sweet but her life is a hot mess because of her family. Her father an alpha uses her as a pawn most times as a pawn in his games she hopes it changes when she gets marred in the arranged marriage her father set up, but she realizes things are as they seem and that leads her to her fiancé brother. Alexander sexy as all get out alpha who will give you a headache trying to keep up, but he knows she is his fated but pushes her away because of the curse she doesn’t understand why, she knows he is keeping something from her but giving up isn’t an option with all she has been through giving up isn’t in her vocabulary. The more time they are around each other the closer they grow together so when father try to force her to marry Dylan of course Alexander sets in claiming her and Dylan claims her ex. but where are they headed, will Alexander stick around, will her father continue to meddle, and is there happiness?

Eleanore is to be bonded/married tomorrow. She can’t sleep and goes to her fiancé only to find him railing her bff. The sweet bff from the first pages morphs Into a psycho bitch murderer — which is jarring and unbelievable. Anyways the fmc wants revenge so she sleeps with her fiancés stronger, better brother Alexander so the fiancé will call me off the wedding. Alexander shows up at the biting ceremony I mean binding and bites Eleanore. She reciprocates. He hates her, she hates him.Theres lots of drama and another ow. Idk— I just didn’t feel the angst. Maybe you will though….

Tepid Characters, Terrible Ending

I liked the initial set up and the first 30% of the book. Then it just dragged on with nothing but other woman angst and plot holes bigger than my interest in the characters.

****Spoilers******
The ending absolutely makes no sense. There is no way Alexander can remain Alpha after giving up the beast; he would lose to any challenger for the pack. And that’s before we factor in Eleanor, who would have been at least investigated for murder after Anastasia kills Micah. And how does Eleanor just let Anastasia go after she kills the pregnant Luna? Giant plot holes. Not to mention that Eleanor isn’t even really part of the pack, but they just accept her after Alexander looses his wolf? Unlikely. Additionally, the lore doesn’t say that Alexander has to love his sacrifice, so why didn’t they kill Anastasia instead of setting up this giant drama with Eleanor? Non sensical and we don’t even get the unveiling of the mystery with Alexander until the very end. It just dragged on with nothing but other woman drama to drive the plot. We get it Micah and Anastasia hate Eleanor, and the Alpha brother only wants Eleanor - there is only so much plot you can get out of that. Alex seemed okay as a character, but I remembered Micah and Anastasia more than the FMC, whose name I had to look up to continue my review. I would probably not read another book by this author, as the plot and ending just did not work for me although her premise was very interesting.

Not good..

Another weak and pathetic FMC. The usual OW with friends with benefit of h was annoying. The FMC was so pathetic in still wanting to be a friend to the ex best friend who was the OW of the ex fiance until the end was pathetic. Don't care for both the h and the weak FMC. The ending was weak when the h finally wanted to be with the dying FMC but didn't for a rush HEA. Wasted read for sure.

Eleanor feels betrayed by her best friend, Micah more than her fiance, Dylan - when she finds them together the night before their mate bonding ceremony.

This shifter world is pretty harsh, every "wolf" out for themselves, no matter who they hurt or take out in the process.

For some reason she's drawn to her finance's brother, Alexander, even though he treats her with disdain. The more time she spends with him though, she almost positive he's keeping something from her, but what?

I wasn't sure how this would turn out, a lot of violence against her and Alexander. Will they both survive? Will their decisions prevent them from having a happy life, even together or apart?

Why did Micah betray her, they've been best friends since childhood? Can she find a place in this new pack?.

I did not think I would finish this as quickly as I did.

She's engaged to one brother but caught him with her best friend. Knowing it wasn't enough for her father to call off the engagement she knew she had to find her own solution.

It just made me angry and sad

I wanted to like it- it had all the Cinderella hallmarks. Abused heroine who struggles and finds love. Even a twist of Prince Charming being anything but was fun.

But she stayed a victim the whole da*n book. She stumbles into situations a 3 year old could discern as a set up and it was like watching a lamb consistently dangle in front of the wolf and then be surprised when the wolf takes a bite.

Everyone abuses her. Everyone makes her an outcast. The hate is universal except for the men, who have an equally unreasonable obsession (I’d hate to call that love). Which of course, causes more pain for our heroine. She’s the freaking Joan of Arc of werewolves and it … got.. old.

The world this author has created is a brutal abusive one where seemingly strength is all that matters, and honestly that’s a little hard to read. I like my romance with a little more romance.

It gets two stars because it was well written, and the story flowed as it should. Maybe I’ll try this author again, but then again, maybe not.

This book had way too much going on and was hard to follow at times. Alexander’s change of heart about mating her was never clearly explained. He spends the entire book pushing her away, and then, in a rushed section at the end, we learn his reasons but not why he changed his mind. It’s confusing because he didn’t want to mate her to avoid her loving him, yet he ends up mating her anyway. He knew she was going to be with his brother and was okay with it, but then suddenly changed his mind?

If you enjoy books where the characters hate each other almost the entire time, only to reconcile in the epilogue, then this book is for you.

This one was... an interesting read. I had a great fun time. HOWEVER This might be a good time to state that I am so fed up with MMC being so hard done by and refusing to just admit to their fucking emotions.

This almost seemed like a weird beauty and the beast retelling. AND FFS how many times do people have to try to kill you before you defend yourself from the crazies? IDK, read this in one sitting in the middle of the night and my thoughts are still in scrambles.

Thank you to the author for the ARC

Very Disappointing

Warning....Spoilers
The book was really good right up to the ending An ending which was just plain stvpid and could have been handled with a zillion different scenarios.
It absolutely ruined the entire book.
Who wants to spend an entire afternoon reading a Shifter book about a delicious, strong, possessive alpha only to have him lose his wolf? Not me!
Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened.
Oh, I know the premise was he sacrificed to save his mate, but it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth the way it was handled.
My advice..... don't waste your time.

Krista Lark weaves a gripping, high-stakes romance in Claimed by My Fiancé's Brother, where betrayal, revenge, and forbidden passion collide. If you’re a fan of enemies-to-lovers stories with shifters, power struggles, and fiery chemistry, this book is an absolute thrill ride.

The story follows our strong-willed heroine, who’s been left shattered by her fiancé's betrayal on the eve of their wedding. To make matters worse, the betrayal came from both her fiancé and her so-called best friend, who were after power and the Alpha throne at her expense. But rather than crumbling, she hatches a plan to serve up revenge with style by turning to her ex’s rival sibling—a dominant, intriguing werewolf who’s equally hungry for the Alpha title. And that’s where things really get interesting!

The dynamics between the heroine and her ex-fiancé's brother are electric from the start. As she seeks revenge, she’s determined to be the one in control, but he quickly turns the tables with his confidence and sharp wit. The banter is both sharp and heated, making for an intense push-and-pull that keeps the tension thick. Lark does a great job of highlighting the contrasts in their personalities: she’s driven, hurt, and defiant, while he’s every bit the controlled, calculating werewolf who knows exactly how to pull her strings.

What I loved most about Claimed by My Fiancé's Brother is the heroine’s journey from being betrayed to rediscovering her own strength and finding unexpected support—and something deeper—where she least expected it. Lark’s world of werewolf politics and power grabs adds exciting layers to the romance, and the intensity between the main characters feels just right for a story fueled by revenge and passion.

This is a fast-paced, captivating romance with just the right amount of heat and a satisfying blend of angst and empowerment. If you’re looking for an addictive enemies-to-lovers tale with a shifter twist and a heroine who refuses to back down, this book will have you hooked from start to finish.

Claimed by My Fiancé's Brother is a standalone dark, paranormal romance by Krista Lark. It features wolf shifters and dives into political matches made between pack alphas, specifically involving arranged marriages.

I don't want to sound dismissive when I write this, although it's clear from my rating that I really enjoyed this, but this is the kind of book that I usually see advertised on Facebook or somewhere and it's basically a guilty pleasure that I need to read it. I'm sure you know the type of Facebook/social media book and story ads that I'm talking about.

This is an enemies to lovers type of fated mate romance. it is a full melodrama, that revolves around arranged matings, emerging enemies and new alliances. There's also a pretty explosive secret that is kept from the female MC by the well meaning male MC and his family. This a complex story, and I felt my thoughts towards all the characters change a lot as they and the plot developed.

Eleanor is the female MC and she has had a rough life. She thought, or perhaps hoped, that things would change with her marriage, which was arranged for her by her father. However, her world crumbles the day before her wedding, leading her into the arms of her fiancé's brother, a man that seems to have an unreasonable dislike for her. That is Alexander, the male MC.

To me Alexander is a fascinating character. He has a lot of depth and he evolves rapidly through the story. Like Shrek, he has many layers like an onion, and that is what I loved about him. Eleanor is really the conduit for this story, a lot of stuff (horrible stuff) happens to her, but she is this strong willed woman who won't give up, something that I found admirable.

This is good for those that love shifter romances, especially those that love a dark and emotional romance.

Ooh I enjoyed this book more than i thought I would!

Im eager to get to book #2 to see this new story so I may come expand this review later but wanted to write it while it was still fresh in my mind.

There were a few twists and turns I saw coming (and some I didnt) ..but this one doesn't have everyone living happily ever after outside of the main couple. I actually like how the author has this ending feeling bittersweet...more realistic that way. They didn't get to have everything. The main male lead actually had to sacrifice something most men wouldnt for his happy ending which was a nice change. And despite trying to make Dylan the villain, I still really liked him by the end and felt bad for him. Not after laying his hands on her physically...but its crazy how I went from hating him to feeling sorry for him and wishing he would have gotten a happy ending with a true mate toward the end. The main lead Alexander...it was hard to like him a lot of the times. Maybe I'm more sensitive to the bully aspect (even if it was just his words mainly) but it's hard to see eleneor keeping hold of hope and essentially forgiving him rather easily due to her mate bond. He was brutal to her way more than Dylan and never really showed that remorse to her like Dylan did. You don't even really get accurate insight into his feelings until his POV later in the book. I get why the author wrote it that way...but it also makes it hard to root for him like I want to.

Overall, it has some deviance from a typical werewolf novel that both shocked and delighted me. It is definitely worth the read and I cant wait to read book #2 !

Claimed by My Fiancé’s Brother is an opposites attract, enemies to lovers werewolf shifter romance which I thought to have a captivating plot, sensational characters, and a mind-blowing outcome that I didn’t expect whatsoever. Author Krista Lark in my honest opinion, is a sensational storyteller and writer who puts everything into the romance books that she creates. Claimed by My Fiancé’s Brother follows the journey of Eleanor and Alexander. I felt sorry for Eleanor when she finds out that the man she was to have a bonding ceremony with, Dylan had cheated on her with her best friend Micah who in my opinion was the worst thing a friend could do. When Alexander interrupts the ceremony and marks her as his mate, I thought he was saving her from a terrible mating with his brother but when he leaves her alone with Elena, I didn’t know what to think about that. I absolutely love the fact that Eleanor and Alexander do end up having a happily ever after. Claimed by My Fiancé’s Brother is a wolf shifter romance book which I would give as a recommendation for anyone to read this amazing book. I’m looking forward to reading more amazing books by Author Krista Lark.

So, it was an enjoyable read. Honestly, I really liked the leads. You knew something was up with Alexander. I wish authors would tell us. It is not like we can’t know, the FMC just can’t know. I can never understand why I as the reader can’t know what the MC’d can’t know. It doesn’t lessen the suspense, and honestly, I would probably finish a lot of the books if I did know. You knew there was a curse. It was mentioned once with nothing else being said. Then, on with rejection as usual and you the reader getting whiplash. You love Alexander no matter what, but you are left feeling cheated. I think this book would have been so much better if you hadn’t been left in the dark like Elenor. I honestly believe it would have made the 80% of the book easier to work with. Seriously, 80% of the book was spent them going at each other. It almost became daunting. You were left with so much whiplash that when the reveal came you were left wondering why you weren’t told sooner. I am going to read the next book because I am hoping that Alpha will be awesome like Alexander was. He so far has been my favorite Alpha in a while.

Love this!!!💜

I loved this book! Alexander and Eleanor! I couldn’t put the book down. I do wish for a little more closure at the end. It seemed to end very abruptly and never really tied up what happened with Alexander. That would be my only issue.

I feel like Eleanor was a strong FMC and I loved how she refused to bow down before anyone. I did kind of guess where things were going with Alexander and why he acted the way he did, but that didn’t take anything away from the story for me. Really the only thing this was missing was closure and a clearer ending. I wish we learned more about Alexander and Eleanor’s future and what he became. Was Eleanor the Alpha now? What was Alexander and did he have a wolf or not? Also, if he still had a wolf, why couldn’t he shift or could he? This could use an epilogue. I loved it so much and was so invested that I really wish to have a clearer picture of there future. The lack of a definitive ending did not take away from my enjoyment, though. The journey to get to the ending was great and I loved the characters!

Great book!!! It just needs an ending.

This is a story that is based on betrayal, revenge and a family secret. What more could you ask for in this dark shifter romance story.

Eleanor is the FMC who hasn't had the best of life living with her Alpha father and her so called family. She is seen as a pawn in her fathers games but that all changes the day before she is set to get married. The events that follow lead her to her ex fiancés brother where they have a love/hate relationship. Eleanor shows everyone she is not an easy target and proves that with how strong is as the story unfolds.

Alexander who is the MMC is more complex and you will just get whiplash from his actions but I do love how the author develops his character throughout the book. You can not help fall for him yourself.

This story will keep you turning the pages just to find out what happens as it is full of drama that will keep you wanting more.

Eleanor was the daughter of the Alpha of the Red Moon Pack and she has been pledged to Dylan,Alpha heir of the Nightshade Pack for 4-years and is now time for the bonding ceremony. But Eleanor finds her best friend,Micah, being intimate with Dylan, she breaks the pledge by spending the night with Alexander, Dylan's older brother.Alexander says that she now has had revenge on Dylan. Alexander claims Eleanor during the bonding ceremony as she claims Alexander. Dylan claims Micah. But Dylan still wants Eleanor while Alexander is doing everything make Eleanor 'hate' him. Why is Alexander wanting Eleanor to hate him? Does he have secrets? Micah hates Eleanor and now that she is Luna; she is doing everything she can to kill Eleanor. How is Micah trying? Alexander breaks sometimes and shows that he cares for Eleanor; which is the real Alexander? Will bond survive or will fate kill them both?.

I am DNF this book so many times, but kept reading, idk why.

The FMC falls for the MMC…..how? He was rude to her the whole time and possibly cheated on her. He would disappear with his former FWB and one of the times the FMC caught him putting the FWB hair behind her ear and the FMC even said it was intimate. The MMC even would leave for weeks/months at a time with the FWB to go fight. The FMC even caught those two kissing and didn’t care. 🤦‍♀️ but yet she couldn’t let go of the fact that Dylan cheated on her.

I was waiting for the FMC to run away and finally take charge of her life but that didn’t happen. Instead she was a victim the whole book.

I honestly liked Dylan, he was 1000 times better than the MMC.

Who tried to drown her? That was never reveled. The ending was rushed and not the best. I don’t want to spoil it but I just didn’t like it.

What happened to the MMC dad. That was glossed over.

Alexander knew he couldn't be Alpha to the Nightshade pack due to the Curse put on the family years ago.
The eldest would die when they reach 30 years of age.
He had always loved Eleanor but knew he wouldn't live long enough and his brother Dylan was now due to marry her.
That is when she turned up to his door after finding her best friend Micah in bed with Dylan on the eve of the wedding.
For revenge she gave Alexander her virginity but next day she was forced by her father to wed Dylan.
At the wedding Alexander stopped the wedding and claimed her instead, Dylan claimed Micah in a fit of jealousy.
So much hate between the brothers and when Dylan and Micha became Alpha and Luna of the pack it got deadly for both Alexander and Eleanor.
Loved this story and thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

Missed Opportunities

I want to start by saying that I enjoyed the story. It had some plot points that were different than others I’ve read over and over again. I also enjoyed the characters and how they were crafted. Having said that, here’s where I feel there were missed opportunities. There is A LOT of jumping in the timeline. It went from this day to a 2 month jump at one point. There are many plot points that aren’t fully explained and it led to some confusion on my end. I would have loved for there to be more explanation for these plot points. For example, at the end, the solution was partially stated but there’s no explanation and then it goes from one moment to another year jump into the future. Overall, I did enjoy the book, just know that there’s a lot that doesn’t get explained and it jumps around the timeline.

I ENJOYED IT

I loved the storyline of this book but it took entirely too long to get to the point, it just drug on and on making me get kind of bored with it. I almost didn't finish it. There wasn't enough character background and it was missing some things that could have made the story great. At times I was crying right along with the characters. There was no laughter. There was some excitement and at times the suspense was intense. Some of the characters you love to hate and hate to love. As things start to get revealed you start to get a better picture of where the story was headed but again the author took too long to get to it. The revelations didn't come out until the end of the book and then everything happened too fast and the story rushed by. I don't like to give reviews like this but this one couldn't be helped. I'm sorry but I can't recommend this book.

1/5: did not like Eleanor at all.

“ you can’t tell me what to do”, “i can do whatever i want”, “you can’t dictate my life”. The amount of times she’s said something along those lines throughout the entire story, it’s like she’s a broken record. Her stubbornness wasn’t cute and she acted like a petulant child from beginning to end. She didn’t have any self respect and was overall quite insufferable. She actually let both brothers cuckold her and she still came back for more. No strong FMC was used in the making of this book at all. The story really took a backseat to the terrible character development of its MCs which also was nothing to write home about. The plot progression went through so many corny clichés and ended in such a rushed stupid conclusion. Not worth the read.

Eleanor is the Red Moon Pack’s daughter of the alpha. He negotiated her engagement with Dylan, one of the alpha’s sons of the Nightshade Pack. The night before their mating ceremony, she caught him with her best friend. In turn, she decided to sleep with his older brother, Alexander, to get him to break the contract. In a surprise turn of events, Alexander claims her in front of everyone at her mating ceremony.

Now, so many secrets, betrayals, longings. So many want those who they cannot have. Some want only who and what they have. And some are never happy with what and who they have. So many plot twists and turns! This is by far an exceptional book. One that will get in the feels. I cannot recommend this book enough! Great read and story!

Started out good but finished kind of poorly.

PROS
- the book is always moving. It’s never at a stand still.
- she actually hates him for awhile. The heroine isn’t controlled by her hormones.
- I like that she got revenge against her fiancé and friend right away and didn’t forgive them.

CONS
- for 85% of the book Alexander pushes Eleanor away. She’s suspect theres a secret but it isn’t revealed until the very end. The secret, fights and deaths all happen really fast and there is no time to enjoy it. The ending was too fast and short.

OBSERVATIONS
- how did she defeat 7 wolves at one time? I was waiting for her to have special powers but it’s never addressed.
- I kind of felt bad for Dylan. He was drugged and didn’t mean to cheat on her..

The story itself was great and I loved Alexander! Especially, when he kept fighting his feelings for Eleanor but he had his reasons for doing it. I hated Micah with a passion that when she died I almost didn’t care that she did except that she was pregnant so the kid got my sympathy.

The reasons for the 3 stars because there was a flow problem. Many times there was a time jump with no scene break or changing of chapters. It was so often I almost didn’t finish the book because it was bothering me so badly. There was no sign of it coming either until you got to the next paragraph and learned it was a couple days or months later. That took me out of the story many times.

The last few chapters brought my original 2 to a 3. Eleanor is a good person/wolf, but her character development is non existant and allows abuse to occur consistently, and aside from learning some truths and learning how to fight, I didn't really see growth with her character. Same with MMC ...he had me ready to throat punch him, although I understood by the end of the book the WHYs, the how did the feeling get there part was what was unbelievable. How did they grow to love each other so much? Just a few sweet incounters compared to endless betrayal sounds very unlikely. If he had wiped more of her memories besides the 1st encounter, it would make more sense.
