Jeff Turner was raised in Custom House in the East End of London, with seven siblings to share a three-bedroom council house. When the Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen" hit, his brother Mickey picked up a guitar and Jeff picked up a microphone, and together they stormed the music scene as the Cockney Rejects. The Rejects stood for being young, working class, and not taking anything from anyone, resulting in agression and violence being the main staple at their shows. However, the madness couldn't last forever, and as chaos at the gigs spiralled out of control, so did the band. Jeff was left dazed and penniless, and here tells his story.
Fiel a su esencia y a su subtítulo: algo de fútbol, mucha música y mucha mucha sangre. No me queda muy claro si Turner y su panda ganaron o perdieron todas las peleas que narra, eso si.
A f***ing blinder. From his years as a boxer, to the gruesome violence of Rejects gigs, Jeff Geggus knows how to write a cracking yarn. He has great wit, it's funny but also honest. Great bloke and very interesting story. Highly recommend to any Rejects fan. COYI
Fan-friggin-tastic biography of Jeff "Stinky Turner" Geggus, amateur boxer who represented England at youth level, West Ham UTD. fanatic, and lead singer of one of the greatest Punk bands ever, the Cockney Rejects. Along with his brother Mick (also an amateur fighter), and West Ham hooligan/Sham 69 roadie Vince Riordan, The Cockney Rejects became legendary for their Punk/Metal/Football chant tunes, and the violence that followed them from gig to gig. This book has everything, sex, drugs, rock n'roll, with a few hundred skulls getting kicked in along the way. All that and an intro by Morrissey, what more can you ask for?
For a band that doesn’t get as much credit as some big names in the punk world, Cockney Rejects was no stranger to the ups and downs of the music industry. This book is wonderfully told by Cockney Rejects’ own Stinky Turner recounting his life from early years on through moderate band success. Even if you know nothing about the band, the read is extremely enjoyable and full of outrageous gags, fights, and drama. Rarely do you get a more open autobiography from a rock musician than this one.
Great book about the life of Jeff Geggus AKA Stinky Turner of the Cockney Rejects. It really focuses on the band's heyday and is a great insight into the punk/early Oi! scene.
It is not just for fans, but you will need a Cockney slang dictionary if you are unfamiliar with it.
An enjoyable read, difficult to tell whether some of the tales are exaggerated though. Honest account of the band's fall from grace and descent into classic rock. Was never a big fan of the band but this didn't detract from my enjoyment.
A bang on account of one of the realist band to emerge in the Oi scene. Unlike previous "punk" bands the Rejects were real working class yobs, not the art school posers. As you read the stories keep in mind the lads ages, it nothing short of a miracle the Geggus boys are still kicking.
