Returning was never part of the plan—neither was facing the wolf who might just be my undoing.
Vinny: After years on the road, my sister summoned me back to the one place I swore I’d never return. Back to where she was—the devil in disguise, the ice queen with a killer streak, the reincarnated Caligula of Rome. But my return wasn’t for her; it was for my family. And nothing would stop me from keeping them safe.
Roman: He left, and I was finally free—or as free as anyone can be with a rabid wolf spirit clawing for control. My carefully built walls, my rigid routines, shattered the moment he set foot back in my life. Now, every second he’s near pushes me closer to the edge. One wrong move, and I might just kill him… or worse.
Available on Amazon, Google Books, Kobo and in paperback
The last 25% of this book is nonstop action and twists. You need to plan accordingly, lol! Wow. This story is a true enemies to lovers situation with lots of open door spice. I would rate 4/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ with descriptive open door spice scenes. It’s a dark enemies to lovers werewolf tale that totally hooked me! I really enjoyed the mental health nods in this story too. You will enjoy this book if you like what I have already described as well as found family, mate bonds, shifters, werewolf packs, and prophecy. I haven’t read very many werewolf shifter books yet, but I enjoyed this one! Along with a lot of open door spice, you need to be okay with a lot of v!olence and unaliving. This book isn’t holding your hand and hinting that bad things are happening. Oh no. You are right there in the action. So if this sounds like your kind of story, check it out!! There’s also a previous interconnected standalone out as well that you can read called Enlightened by the Eclipse which covers two other main characters but I didn’t read it first and had no trouble keeping track of what was happening in this book. I look forward to reading more books by this author!
The story starts when Vinny returns to Blackfern Valley pack after receiving a worried call from his sister, Luna of the pack, stating that there is a prophecy circulating among the rogues. The rogues believe the prophecy is about her little daughter, Lacey. A prediction that a feral wolf will kill a true alpha "twice" born during a solar eclipse. Vinny chooses to risk heartbreak to return and protect his niece since he is worried about her. After being rejected by his fated mate, Roman, he deserted his pack. She turned him down because she believes he put her sister in a coma. However, everything changes when Roman encounters Vinny after a few years apart .
It's the first Anna Elle book I've ever read. I can't even begin to describe how engrossed I was in the story. Characters development and, of course, the plot have been expertly handled by Anna. I experienced a range of feelings while reading, including laughter, rage, grief, and delight. This is what happens when you read a fantastic novel. If you enjoy werewolf stories, you should read this one as well. You won't be disappointed.
This is my first book by Anna Elle and it was a true enemies to lovers spicy werewolf story. So if this is your jam, you’ll love it. It’s a solid 3.5 ⭐️ So when I say a true enemies to lovers, be warned, it’s a little dark and at different stages of the book, I really didn’t like either of them. Which, tbh, is a sign of a good E-2-L .
The MMC is the Nomad wolf, who’s come back to his pack as his baby niece is part of a shocking prophecy, and his Luna, who is also his sister has called him home to help. Being back means seeing Roman again. She, who rejected him, his fated mate.
It is said that hate is very close to love.
There’s lots of action, battle scenes, and sexy times. Also triggers for mental illness, self harm and baby loss (side character)
Note: I haven’t read the first book which is about Vinny’s sister, but a couple of mentions made it obvious that she’s plus sized. In this story there were a few times I found her size to be irrelevant and distracting from the story.
Ok so- picks up a few years after Eclipsed. There is a kidnapping plot, a prophecy about a feral wolf shifter, a second chance romance….. and I am once again amazed by this author’s ability to meld her personal experience with her writing!
Vinny- I left after being rejected. I don’t know why she rejected me, but I’m a warrior and a wanderer. But when my sister the Luna calls me? Who am I to say no? I’m reckless, I can’t stand to be around the Ice Queen …. But….
Roman- hot and cold and I swear she was written to be borderline personality disorder or bipolar. She’s calm and cool and then something sparks her moods and she needs to basically go into heat? I’m not sure whether this feral wolf prophecy is about her or if she just truly needs some mental health support and no one is listening to her.
I’m not spoiling ANYTHING here but DAMN I love Roman!!! Oh and I want this author on my shelf
You need it, you want it, and if you're Roman, you can have it! Anna does enemies-to-lovers right! I feel the hate, I feel the tension. Both characters have funny jabs they throw at each other, making it such a fun read. But Anna also does a great job at exploring the characters' struggles. You can feel their pain. Absolutely loved this book and recommend it if you love enemies-to-lovers and werewolves. Ill end this review with one of my many favorite quotes: I was unsure who ended up winning that round, but one thing was crystal clear— this is exactly what I needed. I needed to play this game. I needed to f* ck her out of my system. Then I could go back to hating her.
While I absolutely loved the first Black Fern Valley book, I found Vinney's story to be too dark for my tastes. Usually, enemies-to-lovers has an underlying current of tension that eventually leads to understanding. What I read was pure loathing on the part of the female lead, and I could never understand why Vinney would want to pursue her - mate or no mate. She was so cold and mean towards him. There were also a lot of triggers in this book that were not listed up front, and once I found too many (ex self h@rm, pregnancy loss, etc), I had to skim to finish the story.

Another fantastic book from Anna. This book was so spicy that it had my toes curling. This was full of great insults, funny one liners and sass that had me laughing so loud my family told me to shh multiple times. The twists in this book were fantastic and unpredictable, I was screaming and jumping out of my seat everytime. Another easy 5 star read and I can not wait to see what is next in Blackfern Valley.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Looking for a fated mates, slow, lustful burn with a side of family, pack loyalty, and action? This is your book. Even though this is the second book in this world, the story stands on its own. Follow along as Vinny and Roman work their way through their complicated relationships; with each other, their wolves, and their friends! You will be hooked!
Wow the is well written and never had me not know who was who and what was what. I hadn’t read the first book in this series before reading this as an ARC but I found early on that it was really easy to follow and pick up the personality of the main characters..
This ARC read as just given me a new Series to Add for the TBR for 2026..
love! such a good spicy story 💕 fated mates are one of my favorite tropes and add in the turmoil of rejection and pain this story just feels so real. I love the gritty trauma and the angst.
