Gia's got to face the good, the bad, and the new. . . Gia Stokes is psyched for the start of her junior year at Longfellow High. She's co-captain of the Hi-Steppers dance squad, she's back on good terms with her cousin Hope, and her best friend Ricky has achieved hottie status as the school's new first-string quarterback. Now all the girls are after him, including Valerie--Gia's co-captain--and Hope. They both want Gia's help to score a date with Ricky, but how is Gia supposed to choose between them? If that wasn't enough, she also has to deal with a new dad and an annoying fourteen-year-old stepsister. It's going to take every ounce of faith Gia has to flip this script and make her junior year one to remember.
"Gia Stokes might be a Hi-Stepper, but this teen role model has both feet on the ground as she meets life's challenges with style and grace." --Melody Carlson, author of the "Diary of a Teenage Girl" series
Now that her mother is marrying Elder LeRon Ferguson, Gia, while excited for her mother, realizes she’s inheriting an evil step-sister, Candy. Everything that can go wrong does. Not only do they have to share a bedroom, but they are to be involved in the same activities and same curfew. While this elevates Candy’s status as a freshman, it does nothing for Gia’s.
While Gia is trying to adjust to Ricky, her bff, being the object of Valerie, co-captain of Hi-Steppers and Hope, her cousins, affections, she’s bombarded with her own emotions about Ricky.
Rolling with the punches, Gia is just trying to maintain. While she’s been able to add some new twists to her wardrobe she can’t help but notice that Candy’s clothes are seriously fly. That is until Gia discovers Candy’s shopping expenditures are more than costly. Can Gia keep quiet about all that’s going on?
“It Is What It Is” book two in the So For Real Series is fun, honest and dare I say it, so for real!
i learned that there is nothing better than a good friend. I love this because it is the real thing, the author doesnt make anything pretty and perfect. She gives it to you like it is!
I loved this book! It was an entertaining novel that I feel other teens would enjoy as well. I don't like to read much, but this book constantly kept me wanting to read more. This book is very realistic to an average teen life. I can relate to lots of things in this book. For example I have been divided between two friends lots of times in my life which is what Gia, the main character, was going through throughout this entire book. She is the one that all her friends run to for advice which caused her to be overwhelmed at times. I can also relate to that because my friends confide in me for most of their problems.
"It Is What It Is" is the sequel to "Step To This". If you haven't read that book it would be smart to read that one first. It is also a great book and it will help you know the background of everything that is going on in "It Is What It Is". You will also get a better feel of the characters and learn about who they are. Some of the characters have changed and so have their feelings for one another. If you are looking for a realistic fiction book that is fun and teen friendly then you should definitely read "Step To This" by Nikki Carter. You will love it!
