My life as I knew it is over, my academic dreams ripped away from me. I don’t know if I can trust him, but I also can’t resist him.
After a brutal attack, Elise Wilson has been turned into a wolf shifter to save her life. But the transformation happening before she was ready for it leads to more problems than she ever thought possible.
As Elise adjusts to her new life as a shifter, she must navigate defining her place in the pack, letting go of her past, and coming into conflicts she’d never expected. Not to mention the intense bond she feels with the possessive yet withholding alpha.
I failed my mate—failed to protect her from my father, failed to prepare her for my world. But I’ll make sure no one ever hurts her again.
Everett Silas never wanted to be the True Alpha, but with the death of his father, that’s what he’s become. Now he must take on this role as the leader of all wolf shifter packs, all while trying to show his new mate, Elise, that she can be happy in this life with him—even if it means keeping secrets from her to protect her.
The fate of our pack depends on us.
These changes reveal more mysteries, and dangerous new enemies emerge. The fight to find what’s causing the rot in their beloved forest—a rot possibly affecting shifters, turning them into vicious rogues—shows that nothing is what it appeared to be.
All Elise and Everett have to do is put their faith in themselves—and each other—first.
I really enjoyed this sequel! A great continuation from book 1.
I loved the dual POVs, especially Everett’s and being introduced to new characters.
It was exciting to see Elise’s character growth throughout this book and really come into her role as the Luna. And seeing Everett’s continued loyalty and possessiveness was 🥵. The author definitely kicked the spice up a notch after the SLOW burn in book 1.
The drama and suspense was definitely more intense in this book and you get a lot of your questions answered.
It definitely had some good (but predictable)twists throughout.
Overall, this was a good sequel to book 1 and I’m excited to see what happens between Dafni and Gideon 👀
Shadows in the Woods is book two in The North Woods series by Evi James. I was lucky enough to receive this book as an ARC and today is release day! I knew I’d love this book because book one in the series was so good!
This book picks up where book one left off and to avoid spoilers, I won’t go into great detail about what happens. I loved that we got Elise and Everett’s POVs in this book. We also get Danfi chapters, which I thought was really cool!
This book gives us wolf shifters, witches and a whole lot of spice 🙌🏼🙌🏼 We also get found family, great banter and hilarious friendships. I’m still completely obsessed with Kleio!
Everett and Elise have huge changes in their lives and they handle it the best they can. I loved how their relationship developed 💙
The second epilogue has me SO excited for what’s next 🙌🏼😍
This book (and series) is proof you can have a great romantasy under 600+ pages. Yes, long stories are great, but sometimes you want to get to the end to know what happened. There was no need for world building since the story is set in Northern Minnesota and takes place in the "human" world. But with a great look into the way the wolves use these particular woods for their own lands.
This book was a great conclusion to Entangled in the Woods, while also giving you a great glimpse into the next installment of stores from Evi James. This story follows Elise's journey through the world of Lycans. After her world is completely flipped upside down by not only discovering lycans exist but being brought into the forefront of their world in a big way. She must navigate this new life while also finding a way to save it. Que her outstanding research on plant life.
Elise is a grad student researching these particular woods and their plant life that grows, her use of these plants to help herself and others was amazing. As a plant lover myself this was by far one of the coolest aspects of the book.

I really enjoyed this sequel! It was spicy, intriguing and had some good twists and turns! I loved the dual POV in this. Getting to know Everett’s thoughts on things really kept it all interesting. I still love Elise as an FMC. I feel like she really came into her own in this one! It was fun to see her more badass side. I also really enjoyed the progression of Elise and Everett’s relationship and how they grew together and overcame the obstacles presented in this book. The addition of the witches was cool. Their magic and politics seem to be really interesting, so I’m excited to see more about that in the next 2 books! This sequel was fast paced and full of new information. A really good shifter romance!
This was such a fun, enjoyable read! Shifters and witches? I was hooked. Elise is awesome so independent and adapting to her new life. Everett's protectiveness is sweet, and I loved seeing him grow into his role. The character development was great, and I always love a multi-POV story. The spice was HOT especially the biting scenes! The plot kept me guessing and I liked the magical elements to the story. I cant wait to see what the next book holds. If you like werewolves and witches, you HAVE to read this.
💚Found family 💚Fated mates 💚Shifters and witches 💚Dual pov 💚Immediate spice 💚Shifter romance
“I’m going to like your fangs just as much as you like mine.”
“I’ve loved you always.” My stomach dropped low into my body. “The moment I saw you heal that baby tree—I knew I loved you.”
ARC review: Book 2 dives deeper in Lycan (shifter culture) and has a dual timeline with an unknown which history POV This books follows Everett and Elise on the journey of what’s happening with the woods, life stone and joint the pack house. This book also makes up for the SLOW BURN of book 1 and gives lots and lots of delicious spice
Micro tropes of miscommunication and partners withholding secrets
The first book got me hooked. This one has me in a chokehold! I cannot wait to see what the next two books have in store, because WOW, this one has so much in it. It’s such a fast paced read, that has you wanting to binge it. I love the multiple POVs, and different storylines that are interconnected. This brings me back to my childhood of twilight in a way, but obviously spicier and its wolves that are the main and witches be the side characters. Absolutely loving this series so far and excited for the next book!
Would I recommend? YES, definitely read this if you’re looking for paranormal romance.
Beautiful sequel. We got a ton of our questions answered in this book all nicely wrapped up with some amazing spice. I wanted to shake Elise sometimes in this book, but that's because I felt like I knew her so well and could knock some sense into her. I literally LIVED for Everetts POV in this book. And that office scene? IYKYK. Chefs kiss. I'm really intrigued about the new questions I now have about the witches and can't wait to see that other side in this world in the next book. I'm really really hoping we get to see more of the white wolf in the next book, I didn't get enough of her!
I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel. It was engaging, suspenseful, and filled with well-executed twists that kept the story moving at a brisk pace. The dual point of view was particularly effective; gaining insight into Everett’s perspective added depth and maintained a strong sense of intrigue throughout the novel.
Elise continues to shine as a compelling female main character. In this installment, she truly comes into her own, embracing a more confident and formidable side that was both satisfying and empowering to witness. I also appreciated the natural progression of Elise and Everett’s relationship, as they grew together and navigated the challenges presented in the story with emotional depth and authenticity.
The introduction of the witches was a welcome addition. Their magic and political dynamics added another layer of complexity to the world-building, and I’m eager to see how these elements develop in the next two books. The increased spice in this sequel felt well-balanced and enhanced both character development and romantic tension.
I especially liked how the witches were woven into the overall narrative rather than feeling like an afterthought. Elise’s personal growth was a standout element, and her journey toward self-assurance was one of the most rewarding aspects of the book. Dafni’s storyline, particularly her strained relationship with her mother, Matilda, was heartbreaking. Her upbringing under the care of her kind and selfless grandmother added emotional weight, and her grandmother’s passing was genuinely moving. I would have loved to see more exploration of Dafni’s training as a witch, as it was a fascinating aspect of her character.
Overall, this was a fast-paced and engaging sequel that expanded the world in exciting ways and delivered a satisfying shifter romance.
✨🌟💫Favorite Quotes/Moments✨🌟💫
"You need to trust me. I'll help you with everything. You are my mate. You're now my life."
"Oh, I see. I guess I'm not the only one who likes a little shifter d*ck."
"We've been doing this since the day that I saw you. There's no escaping this. No running away and hiding. We are linked - forever. You are mine and I am yours."
"I will not let my fate be determined by the circumstances I was born into."
I didn’t think it was possible to love Shadows in the Woods more than Entangled in the Woods—but here we are. Evi James has truly hit her stride in this second installment, and I was hooked from the very first page.
While the writing style remains consistent with the first book, it feels even more refined and immersive. The pacing, the dialogue, the emotional depth—it all just clicked. And speaking of depth, the character development in this book is absolutely phenomenal.
My favorite book couple, Elise and Everett, are back—and wow, do they bring the heat, the heart, and the high stakes. We pick up right after that wild cliffhanger from book one, and their journey navigating their new “normal” is filled with tension, tenderness, and unexpected twists.
What really elevated this sequel for me, though, was the expanded storyline. The looming threat over the forest world takes center stage, introducing fresh characters and adding a layer of suspense that gave the entire plot even more weight. I found myself devouring chapters just to see what would unfold next.
And the ending? Let’s just say the discovery of the macguffin may have seemingly resolved the central conflict… but there are just enough lingering questions to leave me craving a book three. (Please let there be a book three!!)
Thank you to the author Evi James and the publisher for the ARC—I’m already counting down the days to what comes next.
Shadows in the Woods by Evi James is the second installment in this authors series. I will say if you haven’t read the first book, stop now and go read Entangled in the Woods. That will knock your socks off. Ok, back to the current book. This picks up right where the last book left off and I does answer some questions. I love Elise and Everett, they are the best FMC and MMC. They have a fantastic relationship arc and personal one as well. They’re learning to grow into their roles as individuals, as well as one another. I loved watching Elise try and navigate her whole new life and that’s about all I can say without spoiling a lot. Everett is a wonderful partner, leader and alpha for his pack. He navigates tricky situations, tackles difficult situations, and yes he makes mistakes along the way…but he quickly seeks forgiveness. The end of this book felt like a rollercoaster, with a third character introduced along the way that I felt I never truly grasped until the ending, but then made sense. If I am being honest I will most definitely read this series again now that I know where it is headed. There were parts and characters that I would have probably paid more attention to knowing what I know now. This for sure has 5 stars, I enjoy the writing, the spice, and the suspense level.
I devoured this in under 24 hours—someone restrain me before I sprint into the North Woods myself.
We pick up right where Book 1 left off and are plunged deeper into the shadows and secrets of the forest. Elise and Everett's relationship? Whew. It's intense. Everett’s love is unwavering, protective, and laser-focused (like... this man has zero chill when it comes to Elise, and I’m not mad about it).
Elise, meanwhile, is fighting to hold on to herself in this wild, consuming world. She’s not just Everett’s love—she’s her own woman. Intelligent, brave, and searching for her purpose beyond just being someone's person? Yes, queen.
We also meet new characters that have me ready to dive headfirst into books 3 and 4.
Final thoughts: tension, passion, and a heroine you want to root for. The forest holds secrets, but I’m here for every single one.
Would die for: Everett’s loyalty Would follow into the forest: Elise’s growth arc

Thank you, Evi James, for allowing me to read this early! I'm excited for more!!!
🌲 There are secrets in these woods! My immediate reaction after finishing Entangled in the Woods and Shadows in the Woods was pure desperation: "How long do I have to wait for the next one?" Evi James pulled me in and made it impossible to leave these characters behind.
⭐ 4 Stars for the Series! Tropes: • Dual POV • Forced Proximity • Delicious Spice • Plant Lady FMC 🌿 • Fated Mates • She Takes His Pack Member Home First (yes, it's as fun as it sounds!) Trigger Warnings: • Violence (including slit throats) • Trauma
🖤 MMC Everett has my whole heart: "You've always been worthy. I've been too stupid to realize it." and "I've been an alpha for many years. Some good, some bad — but none compare to the year I'm currently having," — said with a smirk that will live rent free in my head forever.
What I loved most about Entangled in the Woods was the slow, beautiful coming into their matehood — seeing them each realize the truth of their bond was everything. In Shadows in the Woods, I loved how the story expanded: weaving in new characters, raising the stakes, and making the world feel even more alive. Evi James builds excitement perfectly for what’s coming next.
"A Fantastic Shifter Romance story" This is an exciting shifter Romance. The characters are great. I liked this story only one part confused me. It was the chapters on Dafni? Everett is a sexy wolf shifter. He is the son of his packs Alpha. After Everett's mother died his father became abusive and insane. So when Everett became old enough he left the pack. He then formed his own pack. Everett then meets his fated mate. Only she is a human woman with just a drop of wolf shifter blood. Everything was going great till his father attacks Everett's fated mate. Sophia is a college student. She and a couple of her fellow classmates are in Everett's packs territory doing research. When she met Everett who lets her know she is his his fated mate. He promised her he wouldn't transform her till she was ready! Then when his father attacked Sophia the only way to save her. After he killed his father is to transform her! He just hopes she will forgive him. This story is exciting, and steamy hot.
Yep, I'm a huge fan of Evi James after reading this series!
I devoured book one and immediately jumped into this because I had to know what was going to happen. This was a fantastic continuation from book one, with Elise growing into her new role and her life navigating a ton of changes, insecurities and one very sexy alpha mate.
I still have some questions, but for the most part this story was rounded up perfectly. There's even a new addition of witches, and I'm really curious to see where this leads for the next book. My heart goes out to Dafni and her upbringing. At first I was wondering where the book was going with her chapters but that became clear quickly, and she's a character I think I'm going to love!
I enjoyed having Everett's POV in this book, it gave so much more insight into him and it was nice to see the softer side of him. This was such a great book, I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves great shifter stories!
The second installment of The North Woods Series is fast paced jumping right into it after the conclusion of the first book, Entangled in the Woods.
Elise is thrust into a new world where she has to adjust to her new identity and environment. The harsh reality will force her to make a hard decision that will threaten her future, and the person she loves.
Everett is facing a new reality within his found family. Torn between doing the right thing while being a great leader, brother, friend and lover. He finds that his greatest obstacle is the feisty Elise, who challenges his heart and mind.
I absolutely loved the banter, and the tender moments. Everett is just so... swoon. Elise is whip smart and takes no one's sass! I love her independence and her vulnerability when it came to matters of the heart.
The magical elements and new characters add to this wonderful world. I am excited to see what happens next!
I definitely recommend reading the first book of this series to appreciate the second book! A fantastic binge worthy adventure!
What a great, satisfying sequel! I didn't want to put it down!
This book has the awkwardness, anger, frustration, and distrust that you would expect it to have after the ending of Entangled in the Woods. But it also has great personal growth, understanding, learning, and acceptance that you would want characters to have.
This book was a ride, don't get me wrong. There were times where I wanted to throw my book because I needed Elise and Everett to FIGURE IT OUT.
In addition to our love story, there is the ongoing mystery of the rot from book 1. The added mystery and nefarious plots made this book so fun and engaging.
There isn't a cliffhanger ending, but the door is absolutely open for more (and goodness, I hope there is more!). I would love to read more books about Elise, Everett, and the whole pack.
Shadows in the Woods is the second book following the story of fated mates Alpha Everett and Elise. Picking up where the Entangled in the Woods ends, Elise adjusts to life as a shifter, as Luna, and at the pack house. There are a quite a few obstacles for them to overcome before they find their happily ever after. What I absolutely loved was how well this book continued the first storyline while also expanding it. Sometimes when new elements or creatures are added the story feels forced, but this continued to feel fresh and interesting. There were a host of new characters and plot twists to keep the reader engaged. And more than enough the spice, that is hot!! I do wish there had been more of the story at the end, but with the second epilogue I’m hopeful we’ll see a book 3! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I wish I could give this book 2.5 stars. The ending of book 1 gave me hope for this one, but I was severely disappointed. I will say there were less typos and grammer mistakes, but the author very much needs to learn the difference between inhabited and inhibited, especially when it comes to intimate scenes.
Book 1 made it a big deal that they were in Northern Minnesota, but then this book basically forgot the setting, besides the fact that they were in the woods.
There where so many unanswered questions too, like the Elise keeps asking Everett what hid per name for her means (it means wolf, I googled it), what's happening with the rest of Everetts father's pack, what about Elises parents? I get the mystery around Dafni, as I assume that will be explained in book 3, but I have no plans to tuff it out for another book.
I really enjoyed Shadows in the Woods, the follow up to Entangled in the Woods. I don’t read many shifter romances but this series has really taken me by surprise.
One of the things I liked most was that the main couple didn’t just fall into a perfect relationship, even though they are fated mates. It actually takes them a bit of time to figure things out, which made it feel more real and less like your typical romance.
There’s also an interesting third character who added a bit of extra depth to the story, and I liked how it all tied together by the end.
The epilogue was interesting. It felt like it might be setting up for a new series that includes Dafne? If that’s the case, I’d definitely be up for reading more.
I read this as an ARC and these are my own opinions.
• Wolf Shifters • Fated mates • Forced Proximity • Witches • Found Family
2nd book in the North Woods Series & we are getting INTO the story more - we pick up right from the CLIFFHANGAR ending of book 1 & get far more insight into some of the side characters (Dafni - a witch we were introduced to at the End of the first book) and WHY they are part of the story line.
This is gearing up to be a great Romantasy series & I am looking forward to the 3rd book! Its hard to predict which way the story will now go since we have Elisa & Everett's HEA - which side character will we see more of next? James has left this open with possibilities!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This book was incredible. The way that Evie James gave us a deeper understanding of the characters and developer into the pack dynamics? Incredible. The different POVs and introduction of new characters? Incredible. This books definitely satisfied the cliffhanger in the previous book, and still left me wanting more. I think the only thing that could've been improved was making the character development for some of the characters more seamless, instead of a big change right near the end. Also maybe a more of a character explanation for the second epilogue? Other than that the book was awesome and very entertaining. Definitely worth the read.
Shadows in the Woods Evi James rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️🔥
this is book 2 in this series and we pick up right where book 1 ended and it sets the pace and sucks you in right away. I love these characters, I love the struggles Elise faces as her life completely changes and how these two people thrown together have to make it work while so much is going on. witches and wolves!!! really hit this one out of the park @evijamesauthor
This was crazy good! So much stuff changed right from the beginning. Everett changed Elise into a lycan to save her life and at first she was furious because all of her plans for her life were finished. I loved seeing her and Everett strengthen their bond and Elise finding her place in the pack. Everett was so supportive of her but he definitely tried to protect her way too much. Haven’t the guys learned by now not to withhold information from their ladies? Elise getting closer with Kleio was so cute also and I loved their friendship. Elise ended up being way stronger than anyone expected and it was such a great surprise to see. The chapters from Dafni’s POV were so good and I thought she added a lot to the story. The ending of this was awesome and it made me love Dafni more than I already did.
This is a continuation of Everett and Elisa’s story. Elisa is introduced to more aspects of Lycans than she could have ever imagined. Will she have to leave her old life behind for a future with Everett? Shelby may not have any choice. The secrets hidden will have to come out for her to find her way. Everett has a new role to learn while he navigates his feelings for Elisa. With new responsibilities as an alpha he has to find balance between these and his feelings for Elisa.
An elegant to her spice Evi James has created another shifter romance that will suck you in and keep you reading to find what the next twist is.
Everett and Elise's story has many twists and turns… better buckle up for their very wild ride!! With a True Alpha newly crowned, and his new Luna this second book unfolds more mystery as it picks up right where book 1 ends. I highly recommend reading the books in order to grasp the full story of this remarkable world Evi has created. The intrigue of Shifter mates the mystery of this paranormal world her writing will have you captivated from the beginning. I am still intrigued and wondering about Dafni??
I received this as a free copy via Booksirens and leaving my honest review voluntarily.
This is the second book in the series and it's amazing! We continue on with Elise and Everett and learn more about what the rot in the woods is, and how to treat it. The drama and suspense is kicked up a notch, as well as the protectiveness and spice!
We get to see POV's from both Elise and Everett. I love being able to get inside his head, so we know what's going on and how he's feeling. I absolutely loved how Elise grew into herself and blossomed in this book! I can't wait to see what happens next. If you love shifter romances, you'll love this one.
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
5/5 🌟s wow!!! Man the beginning of the book picks right back up like there wasn’t a beat missed!! I was pulled into this world from the very first page. Man the characters go through a lot of changes all around and then introduced to new discoveries. There is loss, happiness, sadness, you feel it all. I really like the building of the FMC and enjoyed everything that’s she’s going through. Tension both good and bad. The MMC is swoon worthy as ever. I would add this book to my tbr immediately. It’s absolutely fantastic and didn’t fall off like some books do carrying on in a series. I can’t tell you which book I love more it’s so so so good! -Kerin
Solid story, picks up right where Entangled in the Woods left off. It started to go down the werewolf and mated tropes that I don't particularly care for, but it didn't completely drive me away since I was also invested in the plot.
I really like where Evi James is going with her development of the witches. I don't think I've ever read a story where they emit poison from their gums and I think it adds a nice layer to their supernatural characteristics aside from the usual magic and more rare transformations.
There were quite a few twists that I didn't expect towards the end, which was pleasantly surprising. I almost wish we got to know Dafni a little bit more before the climax.
