Sebastian Rivers never had it easy. Even as one of the most eligible bachelors, his life is far from complete. Time should have healed him, but with the death of Maggie, his ex-fiancée, hope for any sort of peace died as well.

Until her…

Margaret expected the worst when she was bought by Sebastian. After all, good looks doesn’t mean he’s a good man. Murder, torture, and pain, the worst was whispered in the slave’s cells. What she discovers could far exceed that.

The mind hoards horrors better than the memory of a lover. Nostalgia…isn’t always so sweet. -Elec

OMG....Sh!t is getting REAL!!!!!!!!!

WOW!!!! This is Volume 3, Book 3 in a seriously F'd up dark and twisted place know as the GARDENS OF THE GODS. Only this author could have dreamed up such a place. I've read some things that's stumped me, scared me, repulsed me, and has made me check my own moral compass for right and wrong. But this......mindfu¢kery is next level!! I mean the twists and turns are, so subtle that it literally tricks your mind into not seeing what's happening right out in plain view. The writing is masterful. The dark romance elements are SPICY. To say its a dark read is too tame. What's beyond dark? Well I'll tell you it's AA Dark!!!

This book not for the weak at heart. You will not find vanilla anything in the Gardens. So for your sake check the TW and especially yourself before you dive into this deep Dark Universe.

There is no one to save you once you gain admittance into the abyss mind of AA Dark!!!

No spoilers but ELEC!!!! He's definitely the one you'll hate to love. He's my kind of delicious DARK wrapped up in a NIGHTMARE!!!

dazzling. delicious. dark. twisted.

If you’re new to the gardens you might want to start somewhere in volume one. Though with the way it’s written you’d get the gist after chapter one. Up to your reading style.

I’ve loved this world for years and so enjoy seeing different perspectives of the world and getting to know more characters with each novella.

Genius. Just pure freaking genius. Not only is the story artfully crafted but the characters vibrate with life and raw emotions. All the the layers work together in such a beautiful way. It’s dark and twisted. It felt like I was holding my breath the whole time. I just never knew what each page would bring. I could not get enough.

Check your TWs.

(Deep sigh) Master 361 is quite the head case. It's almost heartbreaking to watch him do his thing. But then he buys slave 842, and she's different from the others. Their dynamic changes as their relationship progresses, and again, it's different but GOOD. The twist and ending are brutal. I love getting glimpses of Elec and his POV.
Another great book in the series.

I wished I could say I hated this, because I almost cried. This is so unfair. But okey, 5 stars as always. I freaking love the gods series and the work of A.A. Dark in general.
Can you write a story about them with another ending so I can sleep well?

“Master B-0361” (“Garden of the Gods,” Vol. 3)” by A. A. Dark is now available on Kindle Unlimited and on Amazon, so what better way to celebrate it than with a book review! 🎊

(!) NO SPOILERS AHEAD (!)

Important notes:

1. I received this book as an advanced reader copy. THANK YOU author Alaska Angelini / A. A. Dark, Dee Trejo and Mad Girl Publishing (Pitch Black tm) for the opportunity to arc and review this book.

2. I went into this book blindly: I didn't read any blurbs, reviews, watch any videos or listen to any spoilers about it.

3. This was not my first A.A. Dark book. I will share a link to a TikTok about “24690” at the end of my review*

. NO-SPOILER’S REVIEW:

"Garden of the Gods” Volume 1 and 2 is a compendium of novellas that are interconnected, and this one is the third novella in “Garden of the Gods” Volume 3.

Although I recommend reading the previous stories first, “Master B-0361” (as the rest of the novellas) is a stand alone and starting here doesn’t take away from understanding this story in its entirety.

⚠️ A warning to the reader: This is not a Dark Romance, these are Er0tic horror stories that explore very dark topics, so reading the Trigger Warnings is highly recommended. I will share a list of the TWs that I found at the end of the no-spoiler review. For a full list please refer to A. A. Dark's Mad Girl Publishing site ⚠️

“Master B-0361” presents us with a complex Master/slave dynamics that raises the question of whether it is possible to break cycles or are relationships destined to be perpetuated over and over again.

This novella is a definite must read for all “Garden of the Gods” readers as it introduces another piece of the puzzle of the overall story.

I also recommend it to Er0tic horror readers, seasoned horror readers and/or to open minded readers with little to no triggers.

. REVIEW WITH SPOILERS:

~ SUMMARY:

Haunted by the memories of his first love Maggie, Sebastian Rivers spends his days at The Gardens looking for ways to escape into a fantasy world of his own making.

In an effort to cope with his grief, Sebastian has come up with a system that helps him to relive his past memories with Maggie through an endless cycle, using and discarding slave after slave.

One night while at an auction, Sebastian notices a slave that strongly resemblances Maggie and enters into a bidding war to buy her.

Sebastian takes her into his apartment and, after hearing people close to him acknowledge her resemblance, he also finds out that this slave’s name is Margaret.

Sebastian is now conflicted and, as he navigates complicated family issues, he must also decide whether to continue the practices he recreated to cope with Maggie’s death or to overcome his past and to move on with Margaret by his side.

~ MY THOUGHTS:

“It’ll have to be fast. The world is about to come to a stop.”

It is with Elec’s cryptic words that the sands in Sebastian and Margaret’s hourglass start to run out.

But let’s start in the beginning, how did they even get to this point?

I’m going to guide your through my analysis of “Master B-0361” through what I consider to be one of the most interesting aspects of this story: the dynamics between Sebastian and his previous slaves versus his relationship with Margaret.

Sebastian’s reenacting of his past with Maggie could have been a way for him to get some form of closure but his grief is deeper than Maggie’s death.

His powerlessness at the inevitability of his future as an elite causes him to grasp for any sense of control that he can hold on to which he finds through escaping into a world of fantasy that momentarily keeps him from facing reality.

Maggie then, is more than a long lost love, she is a symbol of meaning and Sebastian’s found lack of purpose causes him to feel doomed to live a life of expectations that were laid out for him to fulfill unwillingly.

It is not until Sebastian sees Margaret that his bleak perspective is challenged. Their instant connection sparks something that he can’t put into words.

At first, Margaret seems to be destined to share the same fate as the previous slaves but, having coped with her own abusive past, Margaret resisted the Master/slave dynamics that Sebastian had so easily established with his other slaves.

Through not satisfying Sebastian, Margaret then brakes the cycle he created thus leaving him to ponder whether he is looking for a different kind of connection, one he believed he’d never find again.

On the other hand, Margaret’s own unresolved past causes her to cope through feeling er0ticized by Sebastian’s abuse. These contradicting emotions result in her developing a conflicting attachment towards him.

Both coping mechanisms compliment each other which, in practice, translates into an ersatz sad0mas0chistic dynamics. This way, both parties maintain some sense of control which, interestingly enough, results in a more sustainable dynamics than the ones Sebastian had recreated with his previous slaves.

It is only through Margaret physically and emotionally accommodating Sebastian that he is able to channelize the bitterness and resentment that he projected onto his victims.

This implicit negotiation and Margaret’s emotional flexibility allows Sebastian to take the first step towards moving on from his past by accepting his obligations in a way that is functional to him as a whole, which allows him face his future with a new perspective.

Unfortunately, what our hero and heroine do not know is that Sebastian arrived to this conclusions way too late.

~ IN CONCLUSION:

Pressured by responsibilities and expectations and in the context of The Gardens, Sebastian deduced that indulging more into his fantasies was the answer, but this was only a distraction that kept him from understanding his own psyche and accepting his own demons.

This is one of the reasons why Elec never granted him A status (other than because it was also against Elec’s best interest).

“Master B-0361” is a cautionary tale about coping mechanisms and the aftermath of unresolved grief.

The cyclical aspects of this story and the inevitability of Sebastian’s destiny are an interesting modern re-interpretation of a Greek tragedy.

~ INTERESTING NOTE:

“This isn’t done. It’s never been done. Not to anyone so deep in the circle.”

Does anyone else thinks that Jett’s whole ordeal smells fishy?

Don’t get me wrong, you are not going to catch me trying to defend Jett LaRoe but it just seems too convenient that he would execute such a straightforward revenge.

I mean, Jett wanted Margaret for himself at first and he would very likely be willing to attack her when she was wandering around on her own, but so would every other Master and Mistress at The Gardens…

This got me thinking, if Jett had been innocent, who would have been able to frame him?

I thought about this trying to consider who would benefit from him being sentenced to d.eath.

Melissa would have easily been able to manipulate Jett’s mind and she would certainly benefit from his death because it would be the perfect excuse to gather her accolades to stand against Elec. Besides, Sebastian and Jett’s d.eaths would destabilize the order of The Gardens by creating a sense of unsafe environment to the other Masters and Mistresses.

But then again, Elec would also benefit from Jett’s death. This move would weaken Melissa and damage her family’s reputation and it would also give him the perfect excuse to charge against her, not to mention getting Sebastian out of the picture and practically guaranteeing Hale’s support by making “justice” for his brother.

Would Melissa have been capable of scapegoating her own son? Would Elec have be capable of sacrificing Sebastian?

This series of events will definitely stir a turmoil within the inner circle and will undoubtably trigger a Civil War at The Gardens.

Can’t wait to see how everything unfolds.

In complete awe. This was FANTASTIC and gripped me right from the beginning and didn’t let me go till the very end. Twists and turns, darkness and depravity, mind f*ckery and love…Alaska took “coping with trauma” and really flipped it on its head. Sebastian and Margaret’s relationship was a match made in heaven..or do we say death when the dude who’s b*nging you pretends your de*ad while doing it? 😅

1/5 - DNF @ 57%

More than halfway through a novella and not much has happened besides a bunch of forced drama with the head guy in changer and the MMC. Why is this necessary? Just focus on the couple. There’s enough potential story there.

I wasn’t feeling this story. Yeah there’s many dark elements but 57% into the story it’s been boring. I also don’t like the MMC, he’s whiny for this dominant alpha master bs I’m supposed to believe.

It just keeps getting better and better

This novella was intense and dark. Sebastian story was a sad one because of his past. He and Margaret had such a rough start, but they were made for each other. The plot also thickens with the overall story with the ' Main Master. Although A.A. Dark says these novellas can be read in any order. It really is best to read them all in order.

Games too far

Sebastian’s story was one I never seen coming, he had a obsession like most of these masters.
But in the end he just wanted to be loved.

Scary how these masters and mistresses are all messed up with being part of elites and high up positions. I get they have sides to them but makes no excuse to most of these slaves.

Coming to the end of these short stories, I can’t help but I’m going to miss them.
Some have been more disturbing than others.

All dark horror readers need this book. In fact they need to introduce themselves to the whole series ( so far) The Garden Of The Gods. Sebastian Rivers is one twisted, messed up MF. His mind is broken, cracked and maybe beyond repair which makes for a fantastic character.

It’s not as dark as some of the other books within the series but boy does it pack a punch. I devoured this story.

I actually love these short novellas and am excited to finish the rest of the garden books. This is a spin-off to Whitlock so you get the same vibe, just different and each book is of a different master or mistress. This book is a master, but it wasn't my favorite, this book also feels like it was left unfinished. hoping the next book picks back up.

Another one that ripped my heart out. Gosh, no one writes love stories that rip your heart out like her. There was some continued world building in this one, but it never got boring. I’m so intrigued by the overarching plot in this world!

Oh my, no one is safe in the Garden of the Gods. Don't get too attached to anyone, because no one is safe in this place, Master or slave. And Elec.....what the heck is going on?

Another devious, dementd, twisted story. Don't let you hopes get too high though.....

5⭐ 2🌶️

The gloves are officially off, the floodgates are open, and absolute chaos is about to ensue. This started off dark and only ventured further into the abyss. While Master B-0361 is probably one of the most disturbed masters we’ve met so far, his history of trauma really sucked me in, broke my heart, and had me rooting for his redemption. Not to mention his new slave’s fierce desire to survive and provide for whatever it was that he needed, if only an attempt at skirting death. I felt for her and was cheering her on as she adapted to her new role. A.A. Dark somehow continues to corrupt my soul and tug on my heartstrings, making me feel so much emotion for characters I absolutely should be repulsed by. Would I ever want to live in the Gardens? Hell, no. But do I feel for its inhabitants on all levels? Apparently.

The end of this one left me absolutely shook. While I never anticipate true HEA when we’re talking about The Gardens, I didn’t see this one coming from a mile away and even though it was probably for the best, a twisted little part of me wanted me to see Sebastian and “Maggie” get their deranged not-so-happy ending. A.A. Dark may have officially broken me, but I think I like it here and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next installment of GoTG.

“Death ends a life, not a relationship.” -MITCH ALBOM

Again, I am floored how A.A.Dark can have you love these characters who are just morally wrong in so many ways, yet her words just reel you in and conjure emotions that should be forbidden. The Stories within Garden of The Gods gets better and better. I love the sadness and the love these characters find within each other, inside a world where that should not coexist. The story of Sebastian and Maggie just filled my heart with so much sadness til the very end. I wanted to believe there would be a HEA, but we should've known that is far from the truth in world of GOTG. Another great short novella. Watch ypur triggers, this is a pitch Black story.
What a page-turner!!!!!!

This book is another piece of the puzzle as things at the Gardens are closing in. It’s like a freight train at full speed where you can’t seem to fathom where and when it’s all gonna crash. After every GotG novel I feel as clueless as before for when it comes to the bigger picture. So, instead, I’m focusing on the breadcrumbs and glimpses into the Masters and couples lives, the author is throwing at us. What a pity that some protagonists can’t see the unfolding and revelations… curious to where it will all lead to. Cheers to the ‘breadcrumbs’ :-D

Although this book was extremely dark, it was oh so good! The writing is sharp and fast, the world building is great and despite the dark nature the characters were very well fleshed out and for most of them, likeable. I raced through this book to see what happens. To say I was shocked is an understatement! I will tell no more about the story wanting to give nothing away. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the next!
