After Cornelius ate the man who killed Patrick’s childhood friend, they left the US and travelled around the world. A trip to see the Lycoris Radiata in full bloom in Japan makes Patrick realize that he wants a home again, wants to have roots. So, they buy a house and settle down. While Patrick struggles with the language, he is more than happy to be with his lovely demon. For the first time in a long time, he feels a sense of community and peace again, while exploring the country, trying to win over his neighbors and dipping his toes into the local kink scene. But mysteries and supernatural shenanigans aren’t ever very far when you live with a demon, and he soon finds himself entangled in one again.
This book picks up where Corpseflower left off and is about what Patrick and Cornelius are up to while Zeno is in Hell. Can be read right after Corpseflower.
Writer of (queer) fiction and sometimes artist. Lover of books, baked goods, plants, art and tentacled things. Enjoys a bit of horror too. Gives away review copies (ebooks only).
This book surprised me, in a lovely way. After reading the first book of the series (Corpseflower), I expected another mystery, or dangerous drama of some form. Instead, despite the fact that one of the main characters is a demon, I ended up with a beautiful little slice of life romance in Japan. If you're looking for a sweet story of continuing romance between two men who'd do anything for each other, this is the book for you! (disclaimer: I was given an ARC of this book, but I really did enjoy it!)
