I’m a city boy born and raised, so what is my fascination with this rural Bed and Breakfast?
Easy. It’s the younger Jackson brother, Wembley.
What should have been a fun and romantic vacation with my now-ex Chad, turned into a solo vay-cay on the small farm-centered B&B. What should have been a summer fling has me seriously re-examining all my life choices.
Obviously, Wembley can’t move his farm to the city.
Obviously I can’t relocate my entire life to his tiny northern town. Right?
When his goat gets sick, and I have the means to help, things between us get real. Suddenly my money becomes way more of an obstacle between us than the four hundred and some kilometers separating our homes.
Now I’m not saying Jenny-Lee the dwarf goat is the reason we’re together.
Jaime Samms is a plaid-hearted Canadian who spends the too-long winters writing stories about love between men and the too-short summers digging in the garden. There are dust bunnies in the corners of her house—which she blames on a husky named Kai. There are dishes on the counter—which is clearly because teenagers! There is hot coffee in the pot and the occasional meal to keep her from starving—because her husband is remarkable and patient.
A multi-published author whose work has been translated into French, Italian, and German, Jaime delights in the intricate dance of words that leads her through tales of the lost and broken hearted men she writes about to the love stories that find and mend them.
And when the muse is being stubborn, she also makes pretty things with yarn and fabric scraps because in her world, no heart is too broken to love, and nothing is too worn or tired it can’t be upcycled into something beautiful. All it takes is determination and the ability to see life a little bit left of center.
Thanks-kidding Day: A Four legged Cupid Story is the fourth book in the Four Legged Cupid series by Jaime Samms. This is my first book by this author. For what I’m about to say, you’ll need to have read the blurb. And, in my own defense, I read a few reviews and no where did anyone that I saw mention that I need to have read any of the previous books. But, the things that are mentioned in the blurb, one of the main characters being abandoned at the farm and then beginning a summer fling with the other MC, happens previously to the start of this book! They are already a couple when this starts. It felt like I was jumping in the middle of a story. I was confused and floundered a bit, even considering stopping and giving up. I hung in there and things did get better as I found my way and figured things out. The animals were cute as described. I was a bit confused with the homes and barn all being a bit sentient I guess is the right word? Anyway, here is a bit about the story itself.
Wembley Jackson is the youngest of the Jackson siblings. His older sister runs the Bed & Breakfast where he lives and his older brother runs the farm that the B&B sits on. Wembley helps on the farm but also has his own enterprises, one of which is some goats he owns and hopes to use the milk to make things with. One of the goats is pregnant with triplets but is also ill which is a big part of the story. It was cute the way a crow and farm dog were so protective of the goat.
Danny Willoughby is twenty four years old, lives in Toronto which is about five hours away, and is a successful social media influencer. Previously to the start of this story, he came to the B&B with his then boyfriend (now ex) but was abandoned there. He began a fling with Wembley which eventually grew into a relationship. Danny goes back and forth to spend time with Wembley since it’s impossible for Wembley to come to him. Danny has also gotten very attached to the pregnant goat.
This is the story of two men who are in love but are both proud. Wembley doesn’t want his fledgling business to negatively impact the farm, mainly with vet bills with his sick goat. But he also doesn’t want to accept financial help from Danny who is supposedly very wealthy. They are also navigating how to move forward with their relationship while living in two different places.
As I said, it was sweet and if you want the spicy times, there are plenty of those. I just felt like I was missing a large chunk of their story. I have no idea if it was included in the previous book but am disappointed enough that I am not planning on going back to find out.
Thanks-kidding Day by Jaime Samms is about Danny, who was left at the farm by his boyfriend to have their couples weekend alone. Meet Wembley, a family member of the working farm that Danny was left at. Danny and Wembley just seem to fit as each have their ways but they also compliment each other except when it comes to money. Only seems to be a sore spot for Wembley as he has a strict budget and doesn’t want Danny to think he can’t take care of himself or burden the farm with his ideas and contributions such as Jenny Lee the goat and hopefully a cheese making venture. Danny just wants to help and contribute to help Wembley succeed anyway he can but tries to follow his one rule but at a critical moment he has to break the rule, deal with consequences but hope it doesn’t break them. I really loved this story it was sweet, frustrating at times and just lovely. Danny and Wembley are wonderful. Jamie brings the farm to life in descriptions and the love the family shows each other is just perfect for a thanksgiving day story.
Cute and sweet, like all the other books in the series. More animals, more sentient dwellings, Funk the crow is back, and now we have Jenny-Lee the dwarf goat. Lots of smiles and giggles to be had. Wembley and Danny are an adorable couple growing together and battling real-life issues that new couples usually don't have to tackle (though I would have preferred to have come in at an earlier time in their relationship), and I really enjoyed their journey. That being said, I now absolutely NEED Asa's story (bestie with a past, anyone?). Four fun stars for a series I hope goes on for a very long time.
Utterly delightful just like the other books in the series. Danny and Wembley are too cute together and I’m always happy reading about animals of all kinds. I’m looking forward to Asa’s story next because something tells me it’s going to be a humdinger!
Super cute story, just like the rest in the series. Just enough spice to keep it lively. Wembley and Danny are perfect for each other. Can wait for more like this.
