TB and Miranda have done it again, their new novel, A Dare to Remember, is an exciting and fun enemies-to-lovers Holiday-season romance.

After 15 years in New York, high school enemies Clara and Lucy met again for the first time when Clara made a surprise visit at home. Here she got her own big surprise when she discovered that her childhood enemy, the annoying Lucy, was in the process of renovating her home. And like a tsunami, all the pent-up emotions from her high school days came flooding back. Wave after wave of disappointment, humiliation, and anger came crashing back, preventing them from dealing with each other rationally as grown-up women. But what also came back, was the memory of the one dare-or-truth bet that led to an unforgettable kiss. Soon Clara learns how bad things really are at the inn and she knows that they are dependent on Lucy's help, and she has to come to terms with Lucy for better or worse. But this can't be done without poisonous jibes and little pranks.

Written from Clara's point of view, we learn first-hand some of the episodes from high school that not only led to Clara and Lucy going from friends to enemies but also why Lucy became an outsider. We learn that actions and reactions in certain situations can be perceived completely differently. Especially if you don't know the background and experiences of the other person.

The story is driven by their spirit of competition, prejudices, and animosities, and from the snarky and humorous dialogues and bitching. But also through the lovingly drawn surroundings and the people and their sense of community in a small town. And not forgetting the sweet romance when the two finally stopped scratching and biting each other and instead listened to what the other was saying. An entertaining story to get you in the mood for the Christmas season.

Thanks to the authors for receiving an ARC for an honest review.

It's the first time I've read a book where the main character has the same first name as me! It doesn't matter to the review at all, but it makes me happy. The storyline has some second-chance romance tropes: they are even nemeses and are still blinded by the vision they had of each other during high school. I loved when the characters realized they misjudged each other, and the relationship shifted into friendship, then more. The novel felt like an improved version of a Hallmark movie (with the small town, the inn renovation, the big-city girl falling in love), with extra romantic scenes and a bit of Christmas magic. It's rather angst-free and sweet, and Lori Prince did a good job with the narration. It's written with only Clara's point of view, which I regret a little because she wasn't my favorite person sometimes. It's not a book that will stay with me forever, but it's light and agreeable.

Finally a book I could get in to from the start, unlike the last few! I enjoy the collaborations of these two writers and
I have come to the conclusion for me to get the most out an intimate scene there has to be an emotional connection as well as physical between the mains. This has it in spades. I didn’t quite get the whole enemies from the past bit, therefor the barrier was a bit “really?” for me, so I found one mains reactions at the start a bit “really?”. However with the barrier being worn down, and the behaviour on the up, I’m really enjoying this book.
I did enjoy it from about 40% on, prior to that it was fine. I would say it was low angst, but I would have liked some of the angst there was, to be a bit more detailed, I would have liked a wee bit more depth. I did like what I read 3.5.

I’ve been a fan of T.B. Markinson and Miranda McLeod for years because they consistently deliver fun, lighthearted rom-coms. Sadly, A Dare to Remember didn’t live up to my expectations.

The story centers on Lucy and Clara, who knew each other in high school and shared a kiss on a dare, though “dare” feels generous, as it’s more like they were bullied into it. They go 15 years without speaking, reconnect, and spend most of the book either fighting or miscommunicating before they finally come together romantically. It’s framed as an enemies-to-lovers story, but the transition from animosity to love felt abrupt and unconvincing.

The main issue for me was the lack of depth in the characters and their dynamic. With enemies-to-lovers, I expect some simmering tension or hints of mutual attraction beneath the surface, but this felt like pure antagonism with a sudden, “Oh wait, we were never enemies” resolution. It’s hard to believe dislike can simply vanish, especially when they actively acted on those negative feelings for so long. The high school backstory, who hated whom, who was mad at whom, was unnecessarily convoluted, making it hard to follow or care about their past.

That said, the writing itself was solid, and I know these authors can deliver much better stories. While this one didn’t work for me, I’ll still eagerly pick up their next book, confident they’ll return to the style and substance that I’ve loved in the past.

Clara has turned up back in her hometown trying to figure out how to move forward with her life. Lucy has changed and grown a lot since high school. Clara however is still holding on to her anger at something she thinks Lucy did. Their shared moment in high school has stayed with them both through out the years. Their banter is amusing and their attraction is unstoppable. I had so much fun reading this book. I enjoy the small town and all it's characters. It was romantic and sexy as always.

This fabulously dynamic writing duo are back with probably their most complex trope yet: friends-to-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers-with-ice-queen-frosting, all while overcoming adversity, trauma, and family dilemmas. And yes, they've done it well. It's yet another story of theirs that flows so beautifully; it draws the reader right into every immersive page. There's even a toolbelt wearing lesbian. (Yes, I did squeal like a schoolgirl on that last sentence).

Cute second chance romance!

Lucy is about to purchase the inn that Clara’s family own, and Clara is not happy about it, especially after she’s had to return home following her life falling apart in New York. When threatened with things outside both their control, Lucy and Clara are forced to work together if they want to save the inn.

This really was a story focused on putting aside differences, addressing past issues, and coming together for the greater good and to find happiness and success. A look back at what had happened between Lucy and Clara to cause the tension they had really answered all the questions about why Clara was fighting so hard against the idea of working with Lucy, and yet Lucy seemed amenable to the idea, so it was Clara who had the most healing and growing to do if she was going to rebuild her life. However, it was the intensity of those feelings that fuelled something more sparking and developing between them after all those years so I think it was a good thing.

As is typical with a T.B. Markinson and Miranda MacLeod collaboration novel, there is a good dose of humour to lighten some of the more intense moments, and keep a light-heartedness between Lucy and Clara even in those most tense moments at the beginning. A bit of talking and some risk taking to achieve a shared goal was all they needed to take a chance on something bigger and a second chance that would change their lives. It was so sweet how it all linked back to that one moment in their past that if it hadn’t happened they’d never be where they were today.

Really enjoyed the story! Another great romance from two fantastic authors who collaborations are legendary.

Another lovely sapphic romcom. Nothing new or compelling. It dragged in spots for me, and I thought there was a lot of "filler" just for the page count. Nice, heartwarming, and lots of Christmas cheer.

A Sweet & Sentimental Tale💕

Just when we all need a little lightness comes a great story by the dynamic duo, TB & Miranda. Clara is arriving home and surprising her Dad. She quit her job and was asked to leave her now ex girlfriend. But what she finds at her childhood home is not what she was expecting. The now Inn is closed and falling apart and who is doing the repairs, Lucy. As the story comes out on what happened to the Inn and the reality that Clara is facing, causes her to lose her cool with Lucy. But in order for anything to move forward her father reminds her they need Lucy. The memories of the teenage girls and how an embarrassing dare cause the hatred between them is going to make Clara’s life miserable unless she figures something out. You have to love this story. You are reminded that not knowing what someone is going through at the time and not taking the time to know them can lead you to believe things were mean but that were not actually how they seemed. Another great one!

I’ve said this before: Markinson and MacLeod’s collaboration is impressive and worthy of admiration. Few sapphic writing duos have reached the level of success and readership they have. What sets them apart is their ability to bring complex, flawed characters with rich emotional backgrounds to life inside immersive story worlds. Each of their stories is crafted with humor and insight, touching on relatable aspects of the human experience. Their works frequently explore themes of love, family, and the ups and downs of relationships, allowing readers to find reflections of their own lives within the pages. As their partnership continues to thrive, it’s evident that these two aren’t just writing novels—they’re creating stories that resonate with anyone who has ever loved, lost, or sought acceptance.

In their latest work, A Dare to Remember, Markinson and MacLeod delve even deeper into the challenges of forgiveness, grief, and clouded misconceptions. As Clara and Lucy navigate family obligations and personal struggles, these issues rise to the surface and hold them back from realizing true love and happiness. The narrative, filled with witty dialogue and heartfelt drama, masterfully maintains a balanced tension. However, it does not let it overshadow the joyful, entertaining tone Markinson and MacLeod are known for. Like all their works, A Dare to Remember showcases their talent for creating vivid, original story worlds that feel intimate and inviting. The result is a delightful, engaging story in which readers can easily invest.

However, when one digs deeper, it’s not just the romance that resonates with readers but also the friendships and familial bonds. In A Dare to Remember, these relationships work in tandem, shaping the journey and making it relatable. Both women are flawed and profoundly human, and that makes it easy for readers to connect with them. Additionally, Markinson and MacLeod make the ladies vulnerable in these relationships by exploring themes of self-doubt, acceptance, and grief. Though these themes may seem heavy, it’s impressive that Markinson and MacLeod manage to handle them with a sense of hope and resilience. This can be attributed to their mastery of craft. This understanding allows them to create moments that feel full, impactful, and immersive. Whether Clara and Lucy are engaged in moments of quiet introspection or passionate conversation, every scene is written with care and intention.

A Dare to Remember might just be my favorite of Markinson and MacLeod’s works to date—though I always feel that way until the next one is released. However, I am especially impressed with the way they use familiar tropes and themes in this new release. They use them to: 1) quickly establish initial animosity between Clara and Lucy, 2) use forced proximity between the women convincingly, 3) appropriately pace the shift in Clara and Lucy’s perceptions, 4) simmer the attraction between Clara and Lucy slowly, causing tension to build, 5) allow ample space for character growth, 6) incorporate believable obstacles for Clara and Lucy to overcome on their journey, and 7) take full advantage of the second-chance trope. The result of this attention to detail and craft is an enemies-to-lovers, second-chance romance that feels fresh, engaging and convincing.

Final remarks…

A Dare to Remember is a treat for fans of the enemies-to-lovers and second-chance tropes, with Markinson and MacLeod delivering big time on a well-crafted romance . Blending small-town vibes with themes of personal growth, forgiveness, and love makes the romance between Clara and Lucy completely engaging on multiple levels. I can’t recommend it enough.

Strengths…

Well-written
Likable characters
Immersive small town setting
Engaging, entertaining plot
Nice character growth
Charming secondary characters

Catnip for Christmas nerds and cozy romance lovers wanting all the feels
A quick heads up before we get to the fluffy ooey gooey good feeling stuff in this fabulous story: The opening chapter is thematically the heaviest of them all so if you're bothered by school bullying just know that while it might feel like time stops while you're reading it, it is short lived, and things go up from there in all the best ways. To the point to where you'll be cooing at the cuteness and sweetness, chuckling at the quips, and feeling downright envious at the creative and romantic dates the mains go on. So if your method for evaluating a book is to give it a chapter or three to make up your mind whether to continue reading, go beyond that point for this title because chances are high you won't regret it.

If you like stories where misunderstandings and false assumptions cause all kinds of havoc and a bit of angst, where some characters don't have it all together in terms of their careers and/or personal lives, and you want to experience a gloriously sensual and colorful holiday season from the comfort of your own home without having to get cold or slip on ice, this is the book to read. TB and Miranda write great stories that uplift and entertain, maybe make you tear up in emotionally charged scenes, and definitely make you laugh and smile; as co-writers they take all of this to a higher level with more shenanigans and chuckle worthy dialogue. There is snarkiness exchanged between some of the characters as well but it's there for a reason. Something TB and Miranda also do particularly well in their co-writes is create a real sense of community for the characters to inhabit not just have a collection of people in the book who happen to live in the same city, so if family owned businesses and quirky local characters are what you crave as an escape from commercialism in real life, A Dare to Remember provides that in spades. It's a beautifully written love story with excellent secondary characters including several in the 50-plus range; set in Vermont it may inspire you to travel there in real life, or just encourage you to shut off your screens/devices and curl up with a favorite beverage and/or pet at home to immerse in this cozy romance. It's the kind of story that can easily be re-read in place of a TV movie and more likely to flood your imagination with colorful images and make you squirm first in discomfort at the beginning and then for altogether different reasons later in the book.
Check out their other co-writes and solo projects as well if your reading pile needs replenishing; they've got plenty of cool takes on the tropes to keep them fresh for avid lesfic readers.

Fun, heartwarming story

Fifteen years ago, a game of Truth or Dare led to a kiss that changed everything for Clara and Lucy. Now, Clara returns to her Vermont hometown, haunted by her past in New York City, only to find the family inn she's always loved is about to be sold to Lucy, who has transformed from an outcast into a determined woman aiming to reclaim her family's legacy.

As Clara navigates her feelings and rivalry with Lucy, external factors come into play to pose a threat to both of them, they must join forces to save the inn. In the process, Clara uncovers a deeper connection to Lucy that reignites long-buried emotions. This enemies-to-lovers story takes them on a journey of vulnerability, redemption, and the courage to embrace their feelings. Will they turn a second chance into a lifelong romance?

This book by these two incredible authors is an absolute delight. It's an exhilarating read, brimming with engaging moments and phenomenal character development. Clara and Lucy's stories are nothing short of mesmerizing, and witnessing their journey of love as they grow stronger together is simply breathtaking.

While there were a few moments when the pace felt a tad rushed, it didn't take away from the enjoyment—it only added to the thrill. The humor woven throughout is a delightful signature of this talented duo that I can't get enough of.

And the ending? Wow! It left me with a heart full of warmth and happiness. Clara and Lucy’s undeniable chemistry is electric, proving they are meant for one another. I was completely captivated by the story and the evolution of their characters. This is a must-read that will leave you with fuzzy, feel-good vibes!

If you like fun, heartening holiday stories, you can't miss this heartwarming tale by the best duo of authors, T.B. Markinson & Miranda MacLeod.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I quite enjoyed this second chance romance / enemy to lover story.
While in high school Clara and Lucy lived next door to each other (when Lucy moved in with her grandparents after the death of her parents). During a game of Truth or Dare they ended up in a cupboard and kissed.
Now 15 years later Clara has returned home to the family inn to find it shut and in disrepair. Lucy has been employed to fix it up to sell. Clara is upset with this - she didn't know it was closed, she doesn't want to lose it, and she thinks Lucy is not to be trusted and will scam them.
As you can tell from that - they are going to fall head over heels in love and live happy ever after.

I have noticed there are an increasing number of characters in books that are employed as event organisers/party planners. And yet I don't know a single one in real life.
This is also a sort of holiday Christmas book. There's plenty of seasonal cheer, snow, and it is Christmas for a day in the story.
There are also weddings - as they have turned the inn and Christmas tree farm into a lucrative business which they now work together doing.

Mind you - I wouldn't mind living near a Christmas tree farm - I quite like the smell.

This was good, though I am growing a little tired of the well off white girls having life go exactly their way all the time. I know this is a book and we're here for the escapism and everything, but having so many opportunities constantly falling in Clara's lap and her having exactly the right skills to succeed got a little old a little fast. Aside from the MCs most of the cast was forgettable.

The romance between Clara and Lucy made tons of sense and you could see the chemistry building from their first kiss in high school. What didn't make a lot of sense for me was the animosity that Clara put into their relationship in the beginning. And apparently the entire thing with them not being friends when Lucy moved back in high school to begin with was a misunderstanding on both their parts.

There is no third act breakup, though there is a brief period where Lucy becomes unavailable right when Clara is trying to make an important decision regarding their life together. This was probably the only time I felt that Lucy acted against her character by withdrawing and kind of giving up. That isn't who she is in the rest of the book so it was irksome.

"A Dare to Remember", co-written by TB Markinson & Miranda MacLeod is a lovely, light-hearted story of finding love, just when you had no idea how it might happen.

Clara and Lucy have a history dating back some years when they were still at school together. As a result of life's confusions, things between them are not as simple as they could have been.
Clara has been working as an events planner in NY, but returns to Vermont to her dad, when she feels that life has been particularly unkind. Being with her dad has its ups and downs; Lucy has become very capable, is working hard when Clara's dad tells Clara he wants her to be friends with Lucy. Together, they make things happen and support each other very well. Spending time together, they forge a new relationship and it turns out that the tile is quite appropriate too.

HEA's are always great, but never more so than at Christmas. Thank you TB and Miranda, I loved it.

Another gem of a read from the creative minds of T.B. Markinson and Miranda MacLeod, with a good dose of Vermont life and a few mentions of cheese thrown in.

I'll be honest and say that I was not a fan of Clara for much of the book, particularly with her judgemental attitudes towards former childhood friend, but high school rival Lucy. However, I did enjoy watching her transformation as she was forced to spend time with Lucy while running the Inn owned by Clara's family. The chemistry between the two women is clearly there but both women have their past hurts and insecurites that need to be overcome before they can find their happy ever after.

With a good dose of quirkiness and romance, the authors deliver another feel-good small town romance. And Lori Prince delivers a masterful reading that instantly draws you into the characters' emotions and story and has you wanting to knock sense into Clara and chuckling you way through the craziness that ensues.

Cute story.

A sweet and heart-warming story from TB Markinson and Miranda McLoad. It was funny, entertaining and pleasant to read. A Second-chance romance from childhood best friends through school enemies to lovers with small-town charm against big-city career dreams.

Both Clara and Lucy were likable with interesting backstories. Despite their differences, they came together to keep Clara’s family inn in the family after her father decided to sell it. During that time, they get to know each other all over again, and they clear up misunderstandings from the past.

It is a real feel-good story. I got such a nice Hallmark movie vibes reading this one. It took place in Vermont and it included Christmas - such a good combination.

This is a good read for any time of the year. Although I think it’s best to read it during autumn. It is light and puts a smile on your face.

This second chance romance is well written (as usual by these two) but treads a pretty predictable path towards the inevitable happy ending.
Clara and Lucy meet again 15 years after a life altering (for Clara) kiss in a closet during a school game of ‘Truth or Dare’. Clara has returned home after her relationship and job have ended. They start as antagonists but gradually get to know one another as adults and the attraction is palpable. They act on their mutual attraction and then there’s some angst as to whether Clara is going to return to event-planning in New York, or stay in her home town, with Lucy. Thankfully, the angst doesn’t go on too long, but is sorted out fairly swiftly.
There’s plenty of Christmas sprinkled into this if that is your Kryptonite! It’s all light and sweet and doesn’t spring any major surprises, but this type of simple romance does have its place…

After both her personal and professional life shattered in NYC, Clara returns home to her cozy little town in Vermont and the inn that her parents had run together. In great need of repairs, her dad has hired his neighbor Lucy for the work. Yes, the same Lucy that had kissed Clara on a dare in high school fifteen years before!

The initial snarky dialogue between them was beautifully replaced with many humorous and loving scenes as the ladies work toward their goal of running both Clara's inn and Lucy's Christmas tree farm together. Once they listened with their hearts and not their ears, their relationship was on a solid foundation.

TB and Miranda are truly a remarkable writing duo. I think they both did a wonderful job of bringing their favorite Vermont to life. A Dare to Remember is a cute and loving Christmas story! Enjoy!

I Feel Wonderful 🥰😄❄️☃️🎅🏻

Once again the Markinson, MacMacCloud tandem rescues a dark winter mood with their inimitable combination of warmth, humanity, humor and passion.
This is a novel for true romantics who believe in the powers of love and family and the concept of truly being created to be the other half of the person you loved from childhood 😍.
And, the ability of a small red bird to deliver love, from one who can no longer voice the words.
If you need a lift, to get you through the dark New England winters, this is the novel for you.
Thank you ladies. 💕
I will read this story again next year, when the decorations have been taken down, the gifts have been given, and all that remains is the romance of the scent of pine needles, and the embrace of the one one person who makes it mean life is worth living. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 LL❤️

Macleod and Markinson are two of my favorite authors, especially when they team up together. A Dare to Remember is a fun, entertaining read, which was just what I needed this week under the circumstances. (I won’t go into the deplorable results of the election in the U.S.)
The story kept me interested and up very late because I didn’t want to but it down. The characters are both likable with interesting/compelling back stories that unfold as the story progresses. The minor characters added just the right amount of flavor and didn’t get in the way of the story.
I think Markinson and Macleod have another hit on their hands.

I think this story could have benefitted from having alternating chapters from each of the leads' perspectives rather than just Clara's, as she wasn't very likeable. There isn't much explanation given to how the leads went from friends to rivals when they were kids, and Clara's animosity towards Lucy seems to be based on nothing. Because of this, it feels really abrupt when it goes from Clara not trusting Lucy and saying she hates her one minute, to being in love with her the next minute, without much relationship development in between.

I usually like Markinson and McLeod's books, but this one was a miss for me.

This was fine, honestly. Fast-paced, feel-good and a fun little enemies-to-lovers dynamic but I hate it when the story is extended by virtue of the main characters being completely unable to have one single conversation about what they're thinking or feeling. From childhood besties to high school flirtatious enemies to adult enemies to friends to lovers, these women literally cannot have one single conversation to clear up where they are and what they're doing and it would save so much time if they just did that. Based on this, this was a nice light story but I can't really rate it much higher than this.

The blurb sums up the situation well. When Carla returns home to figure out her future, she has to deal with Lucy and their past. Since their family properties are next door and Lucy has been hired by Clara’s dad, there is no avoiding one another. The way the authors developed the characters and unfolded the plot was an intriguing and amusing journey from enemies to lovers. The story makes you want to cheer for them. I was rooting for them through the whole story and couldn't put my ereader down until I finished the book.
