I am so glad to become a writer and illustrator. It has been a very fun process. I live in Southlake, TX with my husband, my 5 year old daughter (Hannah), my 2 year old daughter (Mary), and my 13lb Pomeranian (Snowball). I also work as a retirement actuary, so as you can imagine I have quite a bit going on! However, I hope to add more books soon about my two wonderful daughters that hopefully your children can relate to as well.

A great introduction to STEM!
STEM Day is an educational book that is full of fantastic information. Being a Woman in STEM, I love finding books that introduce little ones to the various STEM careers. The author did a marvellous job of highlighting different paths in science, technology, engineering, and math. The storyline is written in simple language, perfect for young children to understand and for beginner readers to read independently. Children will love this book and its bright and colourful illustrations. It's a great addition to the author's Hannah Banana and Mary Berry book series. Well done!

"STEM Day" is a great book to teach kids about different jobs. Hannah narrates the story with her imagination coming through the pages as she pictures herself doing various activities related to each STEM job that is presented. Of course we get to see what her little stuffed bunny Pinky is up to in each picture as well. Kids are sure to love finding Pinky on each page. Kids will also get a laugh out of Hannah's wish for a robot to clean up her toys!
I would recommend this book for kids around ages 4-7. It would make a great addition to any home or classroom library.

As a fan of this beautiful children’s series and a primary teacher for over 25 years , I can honestly say that this is my favourite book of the series!
This time we go to school with the lovely Mary and Hannah to enjoy and experience a STEM day. Lots of amazing visiting adults with a range of exciting jobs in STEM come to talk to the children about their jobs - including their mum too! What I love about this is that there are a range of different job roles that are not the most usual ones , presented in a fun and exciting way, opening up lots of opportunities for children to think about. We need more books like this in schools!
Adorable illustrations, educational and interesting information that will help to raise children’s aspirations in a fun and engaging way. Excellent book!

Big Dreams at STEM Day

Amy Doslich’s STEM Day sweeps young readers into a bright, bustling school event where Hannah Banana’s curiosity is front and center. Instead of sitting through another classroom lecture, Hannah and her classmates get to meet adults with STEM careers — from volcanologists, robotics engineers, actuaries, to air traffic controllers — each sharing what their jobs are really like. The story uses simple, clear language, and the illustrations are warm, colourful, and inclusive, making STEM feel accessible and fun rather than intimidating. There’s a lighthearted touch too (Sneaky Pinky appears!), which adds humour and a familiar thread of play even while exploring something potentially serious.

One of the book’s greatest strengths is how it connects careers to everyday interests. Hannah doesn’t just hear about jobs; she imagines herself doing them, seeing how things she already likes (maps, machines, nature) tie into what someone with a STEM job might do. This helps children see that STEM isn’t some distant future world — it relates to things they already see and feel. Also, the career variety is refreshing: Doslich picks jobs kids often don’t hear about, expanding the idea of what STEM “can” be.

That said, because the explanations are brief, some older or more curious readers may want more detail than this book provides. The focus is on inspiration and broad strokes rather than technical depth — that’s fine, but the trade-off is that kids won’t come away with a deep understanding of any one job. Also, while the illustrations are charming and effective, they don’t go into fine detail; they support the story rather than overwhelming it with visuals.

Overall, STEM Day is perfect for children aged 4-8 who are early explorers of what “what I want to be when I grow up” could include. It works beautifully in classrooms, at home, or in library story hours for planting the seed of curiosity about science, technology, engineering, and math. It’s a celebration of possibility, and in doing so, it helps young readers believe that they, too, could grow up to do many exciting, meaningful things.

STEM Day
Written and illustrated by Amy Doslich

I will be honest: I wondered how this author would make this an interesting topic for children. Isn’t it a bit dry?

Well, Amy Doslich as made it as moist and delicious as the finest chocolate ice cream. She takes us to a classroom on STEM day (science, technology, mathematics, and engineering) when the children bring their relatives to school to explain their professions. As each person explains what their profession is and how it works, the children relate it to their lives in fun and informed ways.

It is wonderful to see young minds making these connections. Knowledge and play, creativity and learning come together in the best way. Children are hungry for knowledge about the world around them, and this is a great demonstration of how to stimulate that hunger by showing how STEM applies to real life.

Also, that Sneaky Pinky gets in on the act.

Both of my boys enjoyed having me read to them Stem Day! While my little one was drawn to the colorful pictures, my older one was drawn to the information about each of the stem careers that were talked about in the book!

Doslich does such a great job of breaking down these careers into terms that kids understand. My older son didn’t really hear of many of them but got excited when he saw meteorologist!! This book really brought on a fantastic discussion about career paths, what these careers mean, and what they want to be when they grow up. The older one was to play for the MLB, and the younger one wants to be a pilot!

If you have children, grandchildren, niece, nephew, or teach elementary age children, I highly recommend getting this book!

Okay I'm 44 and I knew one of these jobs and even that one (civil engineer) I wasn't totally clear on. This was a very interesting read and I learnt a lot! I would definitely recommend it to children, I didn't know there were so many STEM jobs out there (and to be perfectly honest, I didn't know what STEM meant either, lol) The illustrations were great and I loved the way Amy included real children in the book and based the girls on her own two girls. It's totally precious and informative and a must-read for kids and adults alike!

STEM career day at its best

I love how the author takes the mystery out of STEM jobs. This book is very well laid out to demonstrate a STEM career day. The classroom setting illustrations pair perfectly with the text for a young reader to relate to. I had a full understanding of each STEM job as a delighted in each page turn to see ‘who was next.’ The while story is playful a educational.

I absolutely loved this book! The professions included are unique and not commonly highlighted, giving kids the chance to hear about and learn for them perhaps for the first time. I especially enjoyed Mary's reflections on each profession she discovered, as she connects everything to her own life. The illustrations are amazing. This book is both fun and educational packed with information that kids will love. The author did a great job.

S.T.E.M. = Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
Hannah was enthusiastic to learn about various technical careers from her classmates' guests for S.T.E.M. day.
The author drew from real life and presented delightful samples of modern advancements.
This piece could spark interest toward what path in life your child might want to partake.
As an added bonus, the picture book doubled as a search for Stinky Pinky (pink rabbit toy) within the artwork.
