Infinite power at your fingertips, and those that want it for themselves.
With the latest threat to Earth stopped, all Anya wanted was to rest and recover. She didn't expect any thanks, or rewards, but she didn't expect to get arrested, either. But the Cosmic Wardens do not tolerate any breach of their sacred Code, and they've found Anya guilty of exactly that. In a single evening she was taken from Earth, locked in a cell, and thrown across the galaxy.
Samaira, Pan, and their friends remain stranded on Earth, locked within a powerful containment field. If they want to save Anya, and have any hope of protecting Earth from further attacks, they'll need to find a way off-planet, and across the infinite sea of stars. Assuming they can even find Anya at all.
And assuming Anya can survive long enough for them to get to her. With a power-mad Warden Commander, space pirates, wild gnosiphage swarms, murderous (but adorable) alien spies, bland prison food, and every other danger the far reaches of space can offer, it won't be easy. It's a long way home, but if Anya can survive the trip, she might be able to change everything.
The series really does keep on getting better and better. From defending earth against an alien invasion, this series really has stepped up into space opera territory, and done a really good job at it.
Book 3 ended in a cliff, and book 4 continues on straight after that, split into multiple arcs. It starts off with Sam's pov and her reaction to it all, and her following actions, and then switches to Anya for the second arc. There is a lot of growth for the characters, especially for Anya, as she learns to understand her dominions more, and the core cast of book 3 are all present here. There is a measure of redemption for a couple of other characters, and a bunch of new additions, and Forn is a great addition to the story.
And of course, there are lots of twists and surprises too.
I really enjoyed it, and going into it with expectations (as one would further into a series), I'm happy to say that it certainly did not disappoint. The series is building on what's come before, weaving a tale that is rich and with a lot of depth, and I am eagerly waiting to see where it goes next. Imperials, the Union, and the Wardens. So much potential. And with the events that transpired at the end of the book - yeah, I think that things are going to messy (in a good way, of course).
I Will No Longer Doubt this Author and Just Believe in the Process.
When I first found this series, I fell in love instantly. Book 1 was amazing, and Book 2 cemented the series as one of the best series in LitRPG and Urban Fantasy, in general. But, Book 3...that hit hard. So hard that, by the end, I wasn't comfortable with the direction the story was going.
Not even 100 pages into this book, I fell in love with the story all over again (Yes, love is a strong word, but we're being real here). The plot is expanding in a way that's both detailed and interesting. The action scenes are still fresh and worth reading. The characters, new and old, continue to grow. This has once again become an absolute favorite, and I'll read this series till the absolute end.
This novel is split into roughly three parts. The first is how Anya's friends on earth deal with her arrest and transport off planet and the quarantine that the world has been put under. The second follows Anya and was the best part of the book. The third brings everyone together and has some big reveals.
The galactic politics that have interested me in early volumes become critical to the whole storyline. It's a lot of fun. The author makes some wonderfully obnoxious aliens and we get to see them go head to head with our increasingly powerful heroes. It's a nice take on the whole superhero genre.
Off world adventure. The crew seek to get Anna back from the alien superpowers that believe that Earth is subject to their laws. The build a spaceship catch up, help fight space pirates, and defend a mining colony. They confront the superpower and are saved by another superpower. They go home.
A fun listen. Wonderful narrator. Good steady pacing. Please enjoy
