Sneak into the faerie realm, travel to the shifter forest and collect all the delysum she can get her hands on, and return home before anybody discovers who she is. Simple.
The only problem is she’s never actually been to the faerie realm, and it turns out the few stories she’s been told were wildly deceiving. The plant she’s meant to collect is being cultivated into a weapon, and the faeries are on the cusp of war with the shifters.
An impending war Abby quickly finds herself caught in the middle of.
Captured in the forest by the faerie and shifter princes, Abby must find a way to escape and return home before they figure out who she really is.
This slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance ends on a cliffhanger. Tensions rise and attraction simmers, which will lead to even steamier scenes in book two.
Invi Wright is the author of several romance novels, including The Female series, Aine, and The Professor. She had just begun her career in marketing when she decided to start a new hobby— writing. After many tears and more anger walks than is probably healthy, she decided to pursue writing full-time and began the journey of becoming a self-published author.
3.75⭐️ I don’t even have the time to write a review right now okay, because I am jumping immediately into book 2. For everyone who read this and had to wait for the second one I feel so bad for you because I simply dropped kicked this book after I finished it, spiraled for 7 mins paced my house and then I had to stop and do some deep breathing because WTH
I’ll be back after I finish book 2 to write a proper review for this…
There’s something about a human stepping into the fae realm that always gets its claws in me, and Abby trying to save her fae best friend had me hooked 🙂↕️ But the pacing lacked a little bit and felt like the story dragged in places where I wanted more momentum 🐌
The romance is such a slow burn it’s non existent, I was confused on where it was going throughout the whole book and tbh I’m still confused on where it’ll be going in the next book 😆
But yeah I did not see that cliffhanger coming! It definitely made me curious about where the next book is headed 😮
♡⊹. Overall, it was fun, bingeable, and easy to fall into. Even with the pacing, I enjoyed the ride and I can totally see readers loving this world 📖✨
Such a rude cliffhanger, but this book was so binge-able. It encompassed Invi’s sense of humor through her writing perfectly.
Abby meets her best friend Lilli when they are young children, where Lilli is just trying to fit in and make a friend, so she’s honest with Abby and tells her that she’s a fairy. Lilli and her mother are on the run, the only way they can survive in the human world without magic is with a special tea.
Fast forward and Abby and Lilli are in their mid twenties and Lilli’s tea is quickly running out, she’s rationed to the point that she’s made herself so weak she’s unable to even work. Abby is determined to save her friend so she tricks her into opening a portal to the fairy realm. Abby finds that Lilli definitely didn’t tell her anything useful over the years about the fairy realm and she’s in way over her head. She’s determined however to save her friend.
Finding this plant however, that may not be as easy as it seems, especially when the shifters and fairies are at war and the only place it’s located is in the forest the shifters now occupy. The plant also happens to be a capital offense if you’re caught with it.
Abby finds herself kidnapped by two prices along the way, and they plan to gift her to a goddess in exchange for a favor. So needless to say Abby absolutely despises them. The ultimate twist of fate may have her stuck with them however.
Abby sets out to save her fae best friend who is dying in the human realm. Lilly needs a plant for tea that’s only found in a dangerous forest in her homeland.
Abby is a naive girl who is basically hoping for the best when she has absolutely no knowledge of the fae realm. She finds herself a captive of the forked bonded fae prince and the oldest son of the alpha shifters. Who are in the forest to get to a portal to speak with one of their gods.
This book is so slowburn and she absolutely hates the mmc’s. This book is all traveling and the ending had a pretty big cliffhanger. Personally it wasn’t my favorite and that’s why I docked a Star. I do want to continue on though and hopefully the story will get better.
Going to be really mad if Lill ends up with Mason and Kie!!
I enjoyed the storyline, characters, world building, but did move really slowly — feel like this was half of book one. At times felt like giving up because there wasn’t enough action, but still needed to know what was going to happen with these characters.
FMC POV being Abby endears her to you, and have a feeling Lill isn’t as great of a friend as Abby thinks she is. Now that Lill is their mate (is she theirs or only Kie’s…??), what happens with Abby who we just followed for this entire book?!?

I loved it but the cliffhanger was brutal and I need the next one right now!
There’s a lot of layers to this plot, and they’re a lot of fun to unwrap. It’s all medium paced until the very end with a quest that takes up most of the story. I thought this would be an enemies to lovers romantasy but I’m not entirely sure this is the direction the story is going. Tbh, I have no idea where the story is going I just know that I need more.
I’ve been following Invi Wright on social media - I love her TikTok series where she explains the plot of romantasy to her husband & I find her funny, cute and quirky. So I was eager to read one of her books
I was immersed from the get go - I love the sarcastic way she writes. Her style is gripping and has me hanging on her every word.
Abby’s is a human - but childhood bestie Lillian is a faerie who needs a special tea in order to survive in the human realm without magic. Lillian’s mother died when she stopped taking the tea, as there wasn’t enough for the both of them. Abby doesn’t want her bestie to die so obviously she find a way to go to the faerie realm to score more tea for Lillian so she doesn’t die.
I think this book does a great job setting up the rest of the series & I am sure the second book will be even better! I’m looking forward to some spice!
If you’re in a reading slump, this one might be the solution because it’s SO fasted paced and fun!
A human girl (Abby) grows up with a faerie (Lil) in the human realm. The faerie bestie fled the fae realm. To help her live without magic, she drinks this specific flower tea to keep herself alive. As the years go on, their personal magic flower tea supply is almost gone. So what does Abby do for her bestie? She sneaks into the faerie realm to go find this tea.
A faerie AND a shifter (who are fated mates but not physically romantic) see her in the woods and kidnap her to give her as a gift to a god.
I have a feeling this series will get why choosey and I’m so ready. Diving into book two ASAP.
What to expect: -unique magic system/world building -ENEMIESSSS to …. Enemies? 😂 -spicy attraction/tension in everyone’s POVs -sassy FMC
I really don’t know how I feel about this book. The beginning was really good and the story intrigued me but after 30% of the book or so… It got boring and the ending also didn’t hit the spot. 55-60% of the book played in the same place, talking about the same goals like some endless cycle and when the cycle did get broken, it was eh.
I am pretty sure the last 70% could have been in 150 pages or so instead of like 300. I really don’t know. Maybe I’m not seeing the full picture and I’d get more information through the second, so I might still read it, but… I really don’t know.
Besides… In some scenes the princes spoke about her like she was an object, ew?????? And also stuff like ‘lady-like’, excuse me? I also found the writing too graphic. I really cannot make my mind up about this. 😭
Bingeable. Interesting premise but wow the beginning annoyed the crap outta me. It was just sooo convenient how the FMC got what she needed and where she needed to go. Just super unbelievable. But once you overlook that part it was really enjoyable.
Read this book in one sitting. The FMC had me laughing out loud. This is a true enemies to lovers. There isn’t really any spice in the book, but it sets you up for a really good second book.
Basically, know it’s a RH, huge enemies to lovers, an internal dialogue from the FMC that will have you laughing out loud and it keeps you guessing on where the story is taking you.
If I just read a whole book about fated mates where the main POV doesn’t end up being the MMC’s mate I will be livid.
Also,,,, I expected there to be some spice after reading the female and how this is marketed on TikTok but there isn’t any!
I really enjoyed the plot in this book, I liked the minimal world building and I have so many questions that I’m assuming will be answered in later books
My HOPE is that Lillian is NOT actually their mate, and that she is not even fae (rounded ears!) the way she’s acting is not leading me to believe she loves Abby the way Abby loves her and I think Lill is manipulating everything and Abby is actually their mate! I can’t wait for book 2!!
