Eve #2

Enlightened

Rate this book
Continuing where Essence, Book 1, EVE series ended, the barrier between Jocelyn Timmons consciousness continues to dissolve as she better understands the two lives she lives and enormity of her newly discovered inherited gift of EVE (Essence Voyager Era) which allows her to fall asleep on one plane of existence and awaken on another as her soul travels nightly.

In Enlightened, Book 2, present-day Jocelyn uncovers the vast wonderment of the Victorian era but soon learns that life then was not as grand for women as she has read in the classics. Still, she finds comfort in the support of family and friends; a bolstering contrast to her overly hectic, career-oriented family in the twenty-first century. Her love for Jackson Chandler strengthens across time and becomes the light she so desperately needs as the world she has always known no longer makes sense. Yet, the closer she is drawn to Jackson by their mutual ability, the more strain develops amongst those she loves in 2009.

On the other side of Jocelyn’s consciousness in 1878, she remains ignorant of EVE. Her life is crumbling around her, yet she finds herself anxiously awaiting the images that invade her dreams. Jocelyn longs to be the woman she portrays in that world yet her jealousy is unbearable. Miscommunication, betrayal and hidden agendas make trust near impossible. The clearer the visions become the more she questions motives of her closest confidants and foregoes revealing the images that plague her perception. As her life seems to unravel, Jocelyn’s two worlds collide, and she is enlightened as the pieces start to fall into place. But is she strong enough to survive the truth? Is Jackson really her destiny? And can their love transcend time?

Enlightened is book two in the Eve series by A.L. Waddington.

Release date: April 21, 2014

Jocelyn Timmons is living on two planes of existence, one in November of 2009 and the other in November of 1878. The present day Jocelyn has accepted this gift she has inherited but the Jocelyn of 1878 is struggling more with it, afraid to admit to Jackson what she is experiencing, fearing she is losing her mind.

Jackson and his parents are the only people she can turn to for help with understanding what is happening to her. Her love with Jackson is the only constant between “here” and “there.” And in both places his parents are like a second family to her. Slowly, though, the barriers are breaking down in her consciousness making it easier to remember and understand what is going on in each plane of existence.

 photo 1800s_zpsb9d2c2e8.jpg

Her life in 1878 is so rigid and limited. The clothes they are required to wear are so heavy and restrictive. She is not allowed to express herself or further her education. A lady is expected to only marry, run her husband’s household and produce children. But, the bonds of family are so much stronger there. The families eat together at each meal, share their days with one another.

 photo horse_zpse5d35495.jpg

Life in 2009 seems so exciting. Girls are encouraged to attend college, explore careers, express their opinions freely, wear colorful and casual clothing. But the family structure certainly is lacking. Couples frequently divorce, families are so busy they rarely eat meals together. There are so many rules Jocelyn must remember when leading dual lives in both times. She has to watch her speech patterns, her behavior, and be so careful never to mention events from the future. Can she handle this?

“Are they really real? Could there really be a place where women are free to decide the course of their own lives? Where I could be free from the bonds that hold me to this provincial world?”

Jackson is doing everything he can to help Jocelyn through this tough time adapting to this new way of life. But he has to be so careful not to tell her too much. He has to let her transition into things in her own time. But by withholding information, he ends up causing trouble between himself and Jocelyn. Jocelyn begins to doubt her own ability to lead two separate lives on two separate planes of existence. But can she really choose between two different families?

“I knew I could never find that happy medium that the Chandlers found. One life is difficult enough without contemplating the idea of entertaining two. I know I am not strong enough for that.”

This was very interesting watching the same girl live in two different times, 130 years apart. The differences are astounding BUT there are so many similarities as well. The issues she deals with within her group of friends, how there is always someone who is the bully. And most of all, the love she shares with Jackson. I hope there is going to be another book in this series so I can see if Jackson and Jocelyn get their happy ending. Thank you so much to A.L. Waddington and Booktrope Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

Let me start by saying, thank God for a preview of Perception (book #3) because that cliff hanger was making me miserable.

Enlightened, book 2 in The EVE series, is just as amazing as Essence and carries a bit more drama to it. Jocelyn is becoming more aware of both lives in 1878 and 2009. Things that take place in her sleep she is becoming aware of and remembering in the morning. What I'm realizing is that when a chapter ends in 2009 she is actually sleeping while her soul is in 1878 and vice versa. Totally cool in my opinion!

This book is more involved with Jackson and Jocelyn's relationship and how him not being able to share things with her about her lives was causing complications between the two of them in both eras. I love how even though the relationship had a slight downfall, love prevailed and the two of them kept the weddings on.

There isn't much I can say without giving too much away, but boy I enjoyed present day Jocelyn getting those journals and photo albums from Uncle Monte thanks to Shane finding them.

What I liked:
+ the fight between Jocelyn (present day) and Taylor. Too funny how the teachers backed up Jocelyn
+ Jocelyn looking through the photo albums of her 1878 self
+ learning the future of 1878 Jocelyn and Jackson

What I disliked:
+ Amy's reaction to the wedding and not wanting to help. Totally mean of her.
+ Amy's reaction to Thanksgiving at the Chandlers

All I can say is I'm excited to read Perception once it's released! My one question: since Jackson and Jocelyn had a family in 1878, will they have it in 2009?

WOW....does not even begin to describe Enlightened. This love story will have you laughing and crying right along with Jocelyn and Jackson. The twist and turns that Enlightened has leaves you wondering just where you will end up. I found myself reading slower then usual just to make the story last just a little bit longer. All the Up's and Down's of this book will grab your imagination and run wild with it. A.L. Waddington has done it again, making the second book in the EVE series even better then the first!

I'm excited to start book two, to know what's next and what would Jocelyn do. I love to read about Jocelyn and Jackson, about their friends and family. They have become dear to me. I would love to have something deep and powerful like their love myself.  I like to read how Jocelyn deals with challenges coming her way.  I find her feelings understandable and close to my own. I'm wondering where her choices would take her, what would I do, what choices would I make if I was in here place and in here circumstances, what would I feel having a chance to see my life from the future. I'm wondering what implications are going to be of her actions. And what so bad could happen? I wonder whether problems would be solved in this book or they would go to the next.  And again cover is amazing. I'm excited to see what others would look like.

I would say it's emotionally powerful book. There were moments when it made me think about various things in life. It explored feelings of getting in the situation when your life changes a lot. It shows how individuals behave in a sight of challenging life situations, how you can see a person behaving in a way you would not have seen that coming. It tells about the problems we have, how small they are and how big they seem to be. How soon things can get complicated and we can loose the most important things in our lifes. It makes me ask what guides our decisions. It makes me wonder how much of our problems are made up by ourselves and how much is real. And what maybe we create by ourselves these problems.

I guess I would feel much the same as past Jocelyn looking to the future and future Jocelyn looking to the past. Living today I don't think about how much times have changed and how much situation has changed for women. I just don't give it a thought, take it for granted and don't consider how I would feel if I couldn't have it all. This story made me think how much life has changed and to cherish things we have. As Jocelyn said "all the stuff that I take for granted everyday and think nothing of". It brings interest in me to know what social changes have happened, when and why. I know history but not that much how the social life and values have changed, when and why. Also it gives me a thought how much of emotions are behind the facts of history, eg. war, woman freedom. In here there is an opportunity to take a deeper look in differences between two eras and ask myself all these questions.

Now as this story has ended I want more and I'm waiting to see what's next.

I have received this book free from the David Estes Fans and YA Book Lovers Unite! group and the author in exchange for a honest review.

Enlightened picks up where the first book, Essence, finishes off. It continues the story of Jocelyn who lives on two planes of existence, and is struggling to deal with the implications of having two very different lives.

While, I didn't like this book as much as the first I still thought it was very entertaining, and liked getting to know the characters better. This book focused on Jackson and Jocelyn's deepening relationship, and coming to terms what EVE meant in both of Jocelyn's lives. Jackson and his family were extremely supportive of Jocelyn, and tried to help her with all her questions and frustrations. Their romance did progress rather quickly, and I found the intensity of Jackson and Jocelyn's feelings towards each other a bit of a stretch at times. Also, I was a bit annoyed that Jackson and Jocelyn thought they could get married in the present time, and that people that cared about them would and should react better to this huge decision.

Even so, it was good to see the many of characters work through their feelings and conflicts about the marriage, and that there were objections to and reservations about it. I also liked getting to know more about Jocelyn in the past, and what her life was like there. It was interesting learning more about uncle Monty as well, and the decisions he had made.

I felt the book ended at a good time, and that I was not left hanging. I was pleased to see that there was a preview for the next book which piqued my interest and left me excited to read more about Jackson and Jocelyn's story.

I received this book for free from the author. Thank you very much for the opportunity to read this book!

P.S. I would also like to apologize for the lateness of this review. I originally had finished the book in September 2014, but had to take a lot of time off reading and typing due to an arm injury. Although, I am mostly back on track, I realized I had forgotten a lot of the content of Enlightened when I went to write my thoughts. I decided to re-read the book over the past weekend so I could be back on track!

I, of course, loved this book. The plot is much the same as the first one, Jocelyn is still struggling with the discovery of EVE and the impact her visions have on her life. But now her and Jackson have whole new struggles to overcome. I was left on tenterhooks so many times wondering how the story would play out, it was amazing. It's very rare for me to become so involved in a book I'm reading, especially when I've had other things going on and have been unable to sit and read, but I had no problem doing that with this book and once I got going I hated putting it down (only doing so when I was at work or sleeping).

The characters have became more rounded in this book. We get more of an insight into Jocelyn and Jackson's relationship (on both planes of existence) and also we get a much bigger look into Jocelyn's relationship with her family. It was incredibly moving to hear her talk of her (deceased in 2009) Uncle Monte and the impact his journals had on her, only to have her speak with him in the 1800's about her 2009 family. I almost teared up when I got thinking about that part.

A. L. Waddington has a remarkable way of writing a contemporary book, with historical fiction as a sub genre, and making the reader feel he/she is immersed in the story. I really lost myself in this book which was amazing as it's been a hard few days. If you need a pick me up I highly recommend this series.

Book 3 will be released in Autumn of this year, and I for one cannot wait. I'll be snapping up a copy of it immediately!

(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review).

(This review may contain spoilers).

Having read the first book in this series, I found this one easier to follow. I think I still would have found it easy to follow even if I had started with this book... but at least this way, I could get properly behind the relationship between Jocelyn and Jackson.

Once again, it was interesting to see the two different timelines and the two different lives that the characters led. I was glad to see that Jocelyn's 2009 family and friends didn't think her plans to get married were wonderful and actually raised reasonable objections. It was also quite unusual in that I could see both sides of the argument... rather than rolling my eyes at yet another couple who fall in love at first sight and then merge into one being.

I really like the concept of EVE, even though I'd like to know more about the origin of those abilities and how different people have lives so far apart... why some have a hundred years or so, while the gap with others is much bigger.

I liked meeting Jocelyn's uncle and I would have liked to see a bit more of him. I also would have liked to see more of the other characters, too. I found a lot of them to be quite interesting and well-written.

I think I would like to read the next book/s in this series at some point in the future. It was interesting to see the characters live their own lives and how Jocelyn's views and feelings differed in each time frame, though I was a bit disappointed to see Jocelyn didn't stick to her principles. It would be nice to see where the author takes the series next.

Firstly id like to thank A.L. Waddington for giving me this book in exchange for a honest review

WOW.. just WOW. I didn't know if the sequel would live up to the first book but it certainly did and again I loved every aspect of A.L. Waddington's story.

Jocelyn is still trying to come to terms with her new EVE ability but with the help of Jackson and his family she seems to be grasping it well (as well as can be expected when your told your living two lives) in both lives but as time goes on there relationship is tested in a few forms and I was captivated right up until the last page if only to see if they work things through because the solution Jocelyn comes up with is heart wrenching for us readers and Jackson.
I loved that in both novels every time I had a question about EVE and the workings or anything, Jocelyn seemed to have similar question, then they were explained.

I can understand the trust issue that Jocelyn had but I thought she took it a little to far as she too discovered.
I don't want to give anymore away so I'm telling you to go read this great series.

I will be anxiously awaiting the next book! A.L. Waddington is an author to keep an eye on and if all your books are as good as these have been, you have yourself a loyal fan right here.

After learning the details of what is happening to her, Jocelyn Timmons finds herself struggling between the two lives she leads. The life when she is awake as a teenager who is independent and carefree and that of the girl in 1878 during her dreams that is under the watchful care of her parents and planning to marry. Jocelyn is questioning if she is even cut out for this life and it will not be an easy road along the way.

I felt for Jocelyn, as she learns some details of her new life as it is unfolding she is filled with a mixture of emotion. Jackson tries his best to be close by and help her, but he also has to let her adjust on her own. Jackson is so patient, I hope we learn their fate in the next book. Another original story from A.L. Waddington, looking forward to what is next.

The second book in the series picks up almost where the first one left off. This book should not be read alone, but second, otherwise the reader will miss out on the entire back story.
This book focused more on the relationships between the characters. We have conflicts between family, friends, Jackson and Jocelyn… pretty much anyone that could cause harm to their fairly new bond. There were some conflicts that seem will never resolve, that really hurt my heart right along with Jocelyn. The author was amazing at making me feel right along with the MC, her feelings bled off the pages until they became mine as well. And man did she go through a nonstop complete emotional roller coaster. The one big issue I had with the MC is the fact she was already letting her grades slip. Everyone, including herself was so concerned about her getting pregnant and not finishing school, yet her lack of effort right now was never an issue. Most nights she would not do homework because she was with Jackson or researching her own history. I wanted to shake her a little. And can I just say that I felt it was a little old fashioned that everyone didn’t want her to marry because she would get pregnant. You don’t have to married for that to occur, just an FYI. There may be other elements present in this book as well, but the main idea is that this is a romance. Their relationship is at the heart of every action, be it in the past or the present. Jackson and Jocelyn are so very upfront about their feelings, not only too each other but to everyone else as well. At times I felt a little awkward reading this because it was like getting an intimate peek into a private moment that really could have been kept private. It was nice that they felt so strongly for each other, but they were both so intense about it. Also, is it that easy to fake being a high school student? I thought documentation such as a social security number were needed for things like that.
I liked that the walls are breaking down between the two times, but I feel like she is so impulsive that something terrible is bound to happen. Also, I believe that both Jocelyn and Jackson overreacted in the most epic of proportions, both at fault in my view. I got so emotionally attached to these people that I need the next book as soon as it becomes available because I am on the edge of my seat. I love them and the honest love they have, regardless of what the world may say, they stand strong.
I received this book from the author as well as Goodreads in exchange for my honest review.

I received this book from Xpresso Book Tours in return for a fair and honest review.

This book picks up where Essence left off - Jocelyn is still trying to figure out EVE whilst her barrier slowly dissolves in 2009. Back in 1878, that Jocelyn is a little bit behind but is soon catching up. The differences in the lives of the two girls (I know they are one but if you read the book you will understand what I mean!) and the similarities are so clearly written you can feel every emotion that they feel.

For me, one of the best parts of the book is actually seeing the two Jocelyn's become closer to being one. The confusion of being just one person can be bad enough but being two in such different times with different values and perceptions of what an 18 year old girl should be is simply mind-blowing.

This story had me that involved that I found myself trying to skip forwards so I could make sure that everything was going to be okay but then having to go back again to ensure I hadn't missed anything. It is all slowly coming together as the barrier dissolves and you learn more about both sets of families and what their life entails. Misunderstandings occur in the best of relationships and pride can often stand in the way of common sense. I loved that it was portrayed in such a manner - a silly argument blown out of proportion and too stubborn to make up. It doesn't always have to be a life or death situation and this showcased that perfectly.

Everything about this book is well written and thought out. The relationships between family and would-be family members are all 'true' to the characters. This is a series to keep and to follow. Highly recommended.

Disclaimer: I got this book from the author in exchange for a free and honest review.

This book is definitely better than the first one. Frankly speaking i wasn't that keen to red this part after book 1 but due to commitment towards the author i read it. I am totally glad that i decided to read this book. :)

This book basically revolves around how Jocelyn deals with her special ability and how she copes with it as Jackson and his family helps her. It lays more emphasis on the relationship between the two main characters than the previous book. It focuses on how Jocelyn deals with her inner turmoil. Truthfully speaking I was a bit irritated with her at times and seriously felt like slapping her once or twice :P . However the plot covered the annoyability ( i know its not a word ) of the protagonist.

I loved how the dynamics of the relationship between the characters was affected by the Jackson's inability to share some aspects of their relationship but still their love prevailed. This book was an emotional roller-coaster as the author took us through Jocelyn's journey.

I loved the smoothness of his writing style and the way he opens the plot . The story has many characters that may be a bit hard to keep up with. However he has given an appendix in the end to remove confusion.

I conclude that this book is worth at least one read.
P.S. can't wait for the next book. I need to know what happens next.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free for a Blog Tour in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. After the ending to Essence I couldn't wait to read Enlightened.

I love Jocelyn and how much her character grew in this book. I loved reading day after day as the barrier disintegrated a little more, but some of the scenes were really difficult to read.

Jackson and Jocelyn quickly become more intense and serious in 2009 which causes her already strained relationship with her mother to worsen.

Emily and Robert were a pillar of strength to Jocelyn. They really provided her with the support that she needed.

This book had so many twists and turns that I was kept guessing all the way to end. Usually I wont read any previews or teasers for the next book in the series but I didn't want this to end and I just couldn't help myself so I read the first chapter of Perception. Obviously I already can't wait for this to be released.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book felt a LOT shorter than the first book.

Again, there were some editing errors - the one that stood out the most to me was the incorrect spelling of Sidney. Overall, not too bad but they're sprinkled throughout, which was annoying.

Jocelyn uncovers more about EVE and her other self. Luckily chapters are clearly labelled (just as they were before) so things aren't too confusing. There are quite a few characters, so it might be hard to keep track of who is who, although the author included an appendix of characters at the end.

This part of the story focuses heavily on Jocelyn's inner turmoil. Without spoiling anything, I'd just like to say I was really disappointed with Jocelyn and her lack of commitment. That said, the author does a good job of taking the rider along for an emotional roller coaster.

The book ended a little too soon for me, but I guess in terms of the story arch, it made sense.

Not sure how much more of Jocelyn I can take, but I feel so invested in the stories, I must continue! I wonder how many books will be in this series...

Full Review at: What's Beyond Forks?

Jocelyn's 1870's self is slowly but surely becoming aware of things, and she doesn't handle it too well. Her 2009 self seems pretty well adjusted until the veil starts coming down more and more, and then she seems to take on the weaknesses of her 1870's self rather than the strengths of both of her selves. With that being said, I think most people would go at least a little crazy at first too. There is a lot of turmoil between Jackson and Jocelyn in both time periods because she knows he is keeping things from her. I don't understand why he keeps things from her though. He thinks he's protecting her, but once she is fully aware of both her lives, she's going to know all these things anyway. So, what is he protecting her from? This series continues to be highly unique and entertaining. What's in store for these two next?

Once I finished the first book, Essence, I immediately bought book 2 and 3. I was so in love with the series just from book one, I ad to have the whole series in my hands asap. and WOW am I so glad I did! Enlighted picked up right where Essence left off, and it didn't let me down at all!

In book 2, Jocelyn is still trying to come to turns with her new found knowledge of her special gift, EVE. The book still goes back and fourth between the two time periods that Jocelyn lives in and is cool to read and see how past Jocelyn is figuring out EVE and how it is effect both of their lives. I do feel past Jocelyn is a little too selfish and over dramatic with how she handles things though. That bothered me a bit, but it shows a good difference between the two girls.

I was captivated right up until the end of the book, I really wanted to see if they work things through or not because the solution Jocelyn comes up with is heart wrenching for everyone and I CANNOT wait to dive into book 3!!

The EVE Series continues with Enlightened, the second book about Jocelyn Timmons and the gift she has inherited, the ability to live in two different time periods at once. This book picks up where the other has left off, with Jocelyn still trying to come to terms with living in two completely different worlds. The barrier is getting smaller and smaller and she must decide if she wants to continue this way of life. She loves Jackson in both worlds, and the time has come for her marry him in 2009. Her family in the present is extremely against it along with some of her friends. She must make the decision that could completely change her life. But will she make the right one?

I was thoroughly surprised with this these novels. The concept at first seemed like it may be hard to pull off - it's tough to not confuse a reader when you are trying to switch between different
worlds. Although both Jocelyn and Jackson are young, it is impossible to not feel their love through the pages. I am extremely excited to read the next book in this series. I can't wait to see how it all plays out!

Man, this book I could not put down at all. This book also made me cry, but what this book didn't make me do was lose interest at all. We learn so much more in this book than in the first book. After I read Essence, I couldn't wait to read this book. I honestly could say that I do not think that I would be able to live in two different time periods, however, I don't think that I could give either one of them up as well. To have the knowledge that Jocelyn has in the nineteenth century that she has learned in the 21st century would be awesome. But, if you found out somethings that made you so unbelievably happy, it could jeopardize everything. Both Jocelyn's are starting to become fully aware of what is going on.

Man, this book took me on a roller coaster ride happy, then sad, then upset. But this book also gave me hope that everything is going to work out for the best for everyone.

Jocelyn's affliction is EVE (Essence Voyager Era), which means her consciousness lives in two worlds, one in the year 2009 and the other in 1878. She discovered this ability when Jackson moved across the street and every time she got close to him she would get sick. In the year 1878 they are in love and getting married. I don't read a whole lot of historical romance and this story is told by jumping back and forth between the time periods. I think those who enjoy historical romance books will enjoy this series a lot. I was liking this book a bit better than the first one. The pacing was better since the first book was mostly just set up for this one. The covers of these books are so pretty. 4 stars.

This is a sequel that is just as good as the first book in the series. This is a great love story that is a must read. However, I think that, though this could be a stand alone, you should read the first book to capture the true essence of the story. Can't wait for book 3.

This is the second book in the series. Joceyln in the present day is getting more used to seeing her life in the 1800s, and realizes some of the positives and negatives of life for a woman during that era. Her counterpart in history is less aware of the reality of future Jocelyn but her glimpses into a more free and open era for women lead her to feeling frustrations. Jocelyn and Jackson’s relationship becomes more intense as does her conflicts within her family. With Jackson’s family, they have to come up with a plan to deal with their marriage in the past. Jocelyn finds out more about their life in the past when she discovers an old photo album and this information will impact their choices going forward.

The barrier between Jocelyn Timmons consciousness continues to dissolve as she better understands the two lives she lives and enormity of her newly discovered inherited gift of EVE (Essence Voyager Era) which allows her to fall asleep on one plane of existence and awaken on another as her soul travels nightly.

Present-day Jocelyn uncovers the vast wonderment of the Victorian era but soon learns that life then was not as grand for women as she has read in the classics.

Enlightened starts out with a prologue, which pretty much goes over what happened in the previous book just not in detail. Enlightened was more focused on the difficulties that the characters faced, especially Jocelyn in dealing with this EVE. As I was reading it I felt like things kept getting harder for Jocelyn instead of easy. I loved the part where both Jocelyn and Jackson could actually touch each other without her getting sick or fainting. You can tell just by reading how much these two loved each other and what it felt like for me to be able to be near each other and to be able to touch them. The author makes you fall in love with them all over again. I am so glad to have read the first 2 books in this series that I can’t wait to read the 3rd one.

** I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review **

Synopsis
We pick up exactly where the first book ended. Jocelyn (2009) just found out about EVE and tries to understand what this means for her and how to cope with it. Meanwhile Jocelyn (1878) still doesn’t know what is happening to her. This book covers their mental journey in discovering what it means to have EVE and how to live with it.

Review
At the beginning of the book, the gist of what happened in the first book was summarized shortly. That’s especially useful for people like me: who read so much that they have problems to tell what happened exactly in which book (Yeah, I know...it’s kinda sad...).

This book shows the reader, how Jocelyn and Jackson handle various situations. But I have to admit, that I enjoyed Essence(book 1) far more than Enlightened(book 2). I had one major problem with Enlightened, which sadly is the main plot device of the book: I really couldn’t understand why people behaved as they did. I already had this problem in the first book at some points. But in the second book it is happening all the time. X is angry with Y without the reader (or maybe only me?) really knowing why and then from one moment to the other X isn’t angry anymore and again the reader (me?) doesn’t know why. And this goes on and on.

I still enjoyed reading the book, but I would have enjoyed it sooo much more, when I would have been able to feel the emotions the characters were going through. In addition to the various mood changes of the characters, we don’t really learn much more about EVE. The mysterious feeling of book one is totally absent.

So I was really going back and forth between a two and even four star rating while reading the book. But in the end, I give two stars simply because the negative points surpass the positive points. But reading other reviews I get the feeling, that many people didn't have the problems I had in understanding the characters. So I really recommend that everyone should read the book and form their own opinion of the book :D

And I am still looking forward to book three, because I hope that this book will give me the answers which I hoped to get in book two.

I really enjoyed the first book in the Eve series, so I jumped in the chance to review the second book in the series when the author contacted me. I wanted to figure out what was going to happen with the characters and how the "time lapse" situation would all work out. Sadly, this book had middle book syndrome and just did not do it for me.

Likes:
I loved learning more about Jocelyn's family history and the huge differences between her two worlds. I cannot imagine how it would seem to me to have someone describe the things we deem normal now. I mean, right at this minute I am typing on my ipad with my wireless keyboard, my iPhone open to my Goodreads app and I am watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the TV. That is a crazy amount of technology in just my living room alone.
I really thought Jocelyn's parents played a good role in this book, along with her brother Ethan. I would freak out if my sister wanted to get married right out of high school to a guy she had met only months ago, so I thought the reactions to the situation were done really well.

Gripes:
I was so bored through a large part of the book. I really keep forcing myself to read, but it was like pulling teeth. I just wanted the story to be done, and quickly. The pacing drug on.
The whole issue I had with the book was that the story didn't really go anywhere. Sure, Jocelyn learned more about her family, but I felt like she was so wishy-washy in this book and really whiny!
Honestly, I think that I will still read the next book in the series. I think the concept is really interesting, this book just didn't have enough meat for me. I do really want to see what is next for Jocelyn and figuring out how to live and survive in two different worlds.
