Cue the trumpet players and the coaches, it's time for a royal tea party to crown a new subject. During the tea party preparations, Peter is given the task of Royal Food Tester and agrees to make things perfect for the celebration. However, when tea and sandwiches are presented, they have a very unique taste and this worries some. When given the chance, Peter shows just how ingenious his selections may have been, saving the say and earning him a title of his own. Neo thought the idea of royalty would be wonderful and so chose this story during a recent trip to the library. While it is not his usual fare, I think he liked the prim and proper aspects. Never judge a book by its cover, right?

This was my daughter's second library book she ever brought home from school. It's a new series, but with the unicorn and all the pink on the cover (pink and purple are her favorite colors), it was easy to see why she would have chosen it. It was a pleasant surprise to find the book also featured a little brother who wanted to help with the tea party. This was a fun parallel as baby brother is always wanting to follow sister around and "help" in our house, too. Similarly, the older sister is not always impressed with her little brother's ideas and tries to sort of keep him out of the way before discovering he really did have some good ideas to help with the party after all. My littlest is still too young to really help outside of specific directions yet, but I imagine it won't be long until he starts offering his own ideas and sister will have to learn how to adjust and accept them, just like the girl in this story.

Early reader (but including big words like Pinkilicipus, Goldilicious and coronation) telling about a fun royal tea party. Peter (Pink's brother) wants to help and Pink tries to give him a job but is a little bit dismissive to him. Then he decides to act and spice up the party and since her friends like it, Pink is grateful and gives him a hat.
Would it be too hard for her to say thank you and sorry too!?

I think this is a bit too advanced for the "Beginning Reading - 1" label. The pages can have a lot of text for level 1 and some very big words. The story is decent and the illustrations are very fun. I would recommend for a child a little past level 1 reading and who is very interested in tea parties and unicorns.

This easy reader is about Pinkalicous and her tea party. Her brother secretly fixes up the tea and the food and Pinkalicous is really mad until her friends like the changes and then she makes her brother her royal chef. A fairly basic story nothing to spectacular.

It's not every Level 1: Beginning Reading book that includes such words as "coronation," "decorated," "declared, "honor," "whispered," "yogurt," "mayonnaise," "apologize," "pranced," and "hereby." Bold choices, Pinkalicious.

Pinkalicious throws a party for Goldielicious. She invites her friends, and makes her brother the official taste tester. But, when he dislikes the flavors, he changes them to ones he likes. At first, this upsets Pinkie, but she comes to like it, just because her friends do.

Having never read any other Pinkalicious books, Mom was a little confused by this one (like, does everyone see the unicorn, or is it imaginary? Is the girl's name really Pinkalicious?). Maybe I'll like this one more when I'm a bit older and I know what unicorns and tea parties are.

I usually find Pinkalicious a bit obnoxious, but I liked this one. The conflict and resolution were better than many in the series.

My daughter loves the Pinkalicious series and it's not painful after repetitive readings, which is all I can really ask for in a children's book.
