Such an easy read. The Christmas books I’ve read in the past don’t hold up to the ‘Hallmark movies,’ yet this one absolutely could; I’d love to see it as a movie! It’s a delightful Christmas rom-com with thoughtfully handled glimpses into the characters’ tougher/heavier experiences, and in the end it delivered the perfectly cozy holiday read I was hoping for!

This was an unexpected surprise. The whimsical cover does not match the deeper story between Shay and Orla. I did find my feelings about the book dwindled a bit at the end but I loved the delve into their past and the healthy dose of romance/passion.

I absolutely adore Holly Martin's books and have read every single one of them. I’ve been a fan since her very first book, back when my bookshelf still had some free space. And let me tell you, Christmas Wishes at Cranberry Cove is peak Holly. It’s got Christmas cheer, a cozy village setting, side characters you’d want as your own neighbors, and of course, two best friends who are so obliviously in love with each other that you’ll want to shake them by their festive scarves and scream, “JUST KISS ALREADY!”
The story revolves around two besties who have been secretly in love with each other for years but can’t muster the courage to admit it. As if being in denial about their feelings wasn’t enough, they’ve also got some serious attachment issues. But here’s the twist—Holly sprinkles in some flashback chapters (a first for her, I think), and oh my Christmas cookies, I loved them! The flashbacks were like little puzzle pieces, slowly showing us what went wrong in their past. It was a brilliant addition that had me hooked.
Now, for my one gripe: the ending. Oh, boy. So, the whole book builds up this huge, emotional conflict. They love each other but can’t admit it because they’re scared of losing what they have. I was emotionally invested, ready for a slow-burn resolution. And then BAM! It’s all resolved in what felt like 30 minutes—or as Orla helpfully informs us, “half an hour.” Are you kidding me? Half an hour? I can’t decide what to order on Uber Eats in half an hour, but these two manage to overcome a lifetime of fears and attachment issues? Like, Holly, we’ve been on this emotional rollercoaster for 300 pages—could you at least let us enjoy the view before hitting the brakes?
That said, apart from the rushed ending, I loved everything else about this book. It’s funny, sweet, festive, and packed with all the cozy vibes Holly does so well. Sure, I had some notes for the last act, but it’s still a delightful read. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Just be prepared for a “blink-and-it’s-solved” finale. And maybe, keep some hot chocolate handy to help you recover!

Het derde deel in de Apple Hill Bay-serie is uit en van Zomer & Keuning mocht ik dit heerlijke kerstboek ontvangen in ruil voor mijn eerlijke mening. Goed om te weten: de boeken in de serie zijn natuurlijk het leuks samen, maar ook ontzettend goed los te lezen!
Wat heb ik weer ontzettend genoten van dit boek van Holly Martin! Haar boeken stellen me eigenlijk nooit teleur. De eerste twee delen had ik recent nog gelezen, dus alle personages zaten nog vers in mijn geheugen. Dit keer was het tijd voor het verhaal van Shay en Orla! Als je de cover ziet, word je al verliefd op het boek zelf, maar het verhaal was het ook meer dan waard.
Ik keek al erg uit naar het kerstdeel in de serie, maar ik denk dat de band tussen Shay en Orla echt mijn favoriet was van de drie. Beiden hebben een erg moeilijke jeugd gehad en er waren best pittige onderwerpen bij die naar voren kwamen, maar Holly Martin weet deze op een fijne manier te benoemen waardoor het totaal niet zwaar aan voelde. Middels de vriendschap tussen Orla en Shay wordt alles bespreekbaar gemaakt en ik vond het mooi om te lezen hoe hun overeenkomstige verleden hun band, maar ook elkaar, zo sterk maakte.
Naast deze bijzondere vriendschap is er natuurlijk meer dan alleen dat. Orla en Shay zijn stapelverliefd op elkaar, maar door allerlei omstandigheden is dit jaren geleden helaas niet gelopen zoals ze hoopten en ze waren er zelf ook niet klaar voor. Jaren later zijn ze echter nog steeds de beste vrienden, maar na een heftig ongeluk beseffen ze dat ze echt niet zonder elkaar kunnen. Is het nu dan de tijd om de stap te wagen?
Hoewel het nu misschien klinkt alsof dit boek zwaar in thematiek is (hun verleden, een ongeluk), voelde dit totaal niet zo. Dit is op en top feelgood en Holly Martin weet ontzettend goed een heerlijke kerstsfeer neer te zetten tijdens de zoektocht van Shay en Orla naar elkaar. Met een vleugje spice hier en daar, en een hele hoop lieve en waardevolle momenten, weet ik zeker dat jij na het lezen van dit boek klaar bent voor de kerststemming!

Als er iemand heerlijke, onvervalste feelgood kan schrijven, dan is het Holly Martin wel. Ze heeft al diverse hartverwarmende series op haar naam staan die je mede door de kleurige covers met de zwierige letters uit duizenden herkent. Je weet ook dat ze bij elke serie een kerstboek schrijft, dus na twee delen in de Apple Hill Bay-serie, keek ik rijkhalzend uit naar de ultieme kerstfeelgood die de serie zou verrijken. De kerstmagie van Cranberry Cove stelt daarin zeker niet teleur.
Alle boeken zijn prima los te lezen, maar wie de eerdere delen gelezen heeft, kent een aantal personages al. Ze hebben al een hele ontwikkeling doorgemaakt. Het is dan ook hartverwarmend om ze terug te zien en het is geweldig dat het kerstverhaal over Shay en Orla gaat. Deze beste vrienden hebben beiden geen makkelijk leven gehad en voelen zich wellicht daarom zo verbonden, al sinds hun eerste ontmoeting in Apple Hill Bay op hun 14e. Orla's stille liefde groeide onder de sterren van Cranberry Cove en ze houdt dat verborgen want ze denkt dat het niet wederzijds is. Ze heeft één keer gehoopt van wel tijdens een magische Kerst, maar ze wil hun vriendschap niet riskeren. Shay voelt meer dan hij laat blijken maar houdt zijn hart om een reden gesloten. Deze Kerst kan alles anders worden en moeten ze misschien onder ogen zien wat ze al jaren verborgen houden.
Holly Martin heeft een hele fijne, hartverwarmende en beeldende schrijfstijl waarmee ze ook nu weer een gezellige kerstsfeer neer zet. Het voelt alsof je zelf daar bent. Het verhaal wisselt heden en verleden af zodat beetje bij beetje duidelijk wordt wat er in het verleden gebeurd is. Orla en Shay hebben veel mee gemaakt en worstelen daar mee. Kerstmagie van Cranberry Cove” van Holly Martin is een warme, romantische feelgoodroman die perfect de magie van kerst weet te vangen. In dit derde deel van de Apple Hill Bay-serie volgen we Orla Kennedy, die al sinds haar jeugd heimelijk verliefd is op haar beste vriend Shay Lucas. Hun band is diep en vertrouwd, maar Orla is ervan overtuigd dat haar gevoelens niet wederzijds zijn. Onder de sterrenhemel van Cranberry Cove heeft ze jarenlang haar liefde verborgen gehouden, bang om hun vriendschap te verliezen. Alhoewel het plot voorspelbaar is, anders zou het geen feelgoodroman zijn, weet Martin dit te compenseren met levendige beschrijvingen, humor en een flinke dosis romantiek. Wat zijn de boeken van Holly Martin altijd leuk om te lezen! De lat lag hoog en ze maakt het weer waar! Ik mocht De kerstmagie van Cranberry Cove lezen en recenseren. Het is deel 3 in de Apple Hill Bay serie. Het boek is vertaald door Patricia Pos. Bedankt Zomer en Keuning voor dit recensie-exemplaar!
Deel 2 heb ik ook gelezen. De personages komen er wel in terug, maar de delen zijn goed afzonderlijk van elkaar te lezen. Ik geniet altijd zo van deze boeken! Holly Martin schrijft vlot, maar ook heel beeldend. Zelf was ik voor mijn gevoel ook in het huisje en op het strand. Het verhaal gaat afwisselend van heden naar verschillende momenten in het verleden, dit wordt goed aangegeven bij het begin van een hoofdstuk. Het verhaal heeft hierdoor een goede opbouw en is goed te volgen. De personages struggelen met zichzelf en hun gevoelens, dit is mooi neergezet en vooral ook de groei die ze meemaken. Het is een echt feelgoodboek wat zich afspeelt rond de kerstdagen. Het boek krijgt van mij ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Orla die weinig liefde vanuit huis heeft meegekregen en dit wel voelde bij Shay thuis. De gebeurtenissen vanuit het verleden hebben invloed op de levens en gevoelens van Shay en Orla. Orla is na zo veel jaren nog steeds verliefd, maar kan Shay deze liefde beantwoorden? Als de angst er is om een geliefd persoon te verliezen, is het tijd om te luisteren naar je hart...

Orla keert terug na een aantal jaren weg geweest te zijn in Cranberry Cove. Ze denkt dat de tijd rijp is, dat ze haar verliefdheid voor Shay is ontgroeid. Maar één blik van Shay, zet haar weer in vuur en vlam. Echte liefde is soms niet weg te vegen en misschien is het tijd om te praten, wat ze al jaren uit de weg is gegaan. Shay bleef maar hopen op haar terugkeer en daar is ze dan, mooier dan ooit, zijn beste vriendin, de vrouw van zijn leven.
Maar kunnen ze de jaren dat ze elkaar niet zagen vergeten en hún jeugd herinneringen behouden zonder negatieve gevoelens?
Wat een intens verhaal was dit! Over twee mensen die al zoveel hebben moeten incasseren, met elkaar gedeeld hebben en toch elkaar even verloren zijn geraakt.
Cranberry Cove staat centraal, kerst is een moment dat kansen geeft om mensen samen te brengen. En dat zie je vooral Orla en Shay doen, elkaar terugvinden, luisteren, praten en ontdekken dat liefde niet overgaat, verdoken zit en wacht op het moment om terug te floreren.
Holly Martin heeft me meermaals een krop doen wegslikken, een traantje doen wegvegen en zo luid doen zuchten van opluchting. Het was een rollercoast, maar eentje waar ik enorm van genoten heb.
Feelgood die diep de emoties ingaat, maar de nadruk op liefde erg hoog houdt.
De gemeenschap van Cranberry Cove blijft regelmatig opduiken en zorgen voor dat vertrouwde en thuisgevoel dat ze in de reeks heeft weten te creëren.
Het leest erg vlot, je krijgt tijd om het verhaal te plaatsen en het blijft nazinderen.
De magie van kerst wordt overmeesterd door de romantiek, maar daar had ik helemaal geen problemen mee. Want het liefdesverhaal van Orla en Shay lieten sterren schitteren en harten verwarmen.

Cranberry Cove staat centraal, kerst is een moment dat kansen geeft om mensen samen te brengen. En dat zie je vooral Orla en Shay doen, elkaar terugvinden, luisteren, praten en ontdekken dat liefde niet overgaat, verdoken zit en wacht op het moment om terug te floreren.
Holly Martin heeft me meermaals een krop doen wegslikken, een traantje doen wegvegen en zo luid doen zuchten van opluchting. Het was een rollercoast, maar eentje waar ik enorm van genoten heb.
Feelgood die diep de emoties ingaat, maar de nadruk op liefde erg hoog houdt.
De gemeenschap van Cranberry Cove blijft regelmatig opduiken en zorgen voor dat vertrouwde en thuisgevoel dat ze in de reeks heeft weten te creëren.
Het leest erg vlot, je krijgt tijd om het verhaal te plaatsen en het blijft nazinderen.
De magie van kerst wordt overmeesterd door de romantiek, maar daar had ik helemaal geen problemen mee. Want het liefdesverhaal van Orla en Shay lieten sterren schitteren en harten verwarmen.

In dit verhaal draait het om Shay en Orla, waarbij het verhaal zich afwisselt tussen het heden en het verleden. Ze leerden elkaar kennen toen Orla bevriend raakte met Fern, het zusje van Shay. Fern nam haar mee naar huis en Orla mocht meteen blijven eten, iets wat haar diep raakte, want thuis was het vaak allesbehalve gezellig. Haar ouders maakten constant ruzie en hadden weinig aandacht voor haar.
Bij de familie Lucas voelde Orla zich voor het eerst echt welkom. Daar ontmoette ze ook Shay. Net als zijn broer en zus was Shay geadopteerd door Carrie, en ook hij had een moeilijke jeugd achter de rug. Misschien juist daarom voelden Orla en Shay zich zo met elkaar verbonden. Ze werden al snel hechte vrienden en waren bijna onafscheidelijk.
Tot er iets gebeurde waardoor Orla vertrok uit Apple Hill Bay. Jaren later keert ze terug, nog steeds met gevoelens voor Shay, gevoelens waarvan ze weet dat hij die niet beantwoord. Maar wanneer ze weer closer worden gebeurd er iets wat hun levens en gevoelens volledig op zijn kop zet.
Ik heb weer genoten van dit boek. Je kan deze delen los van elkaar lezen maar het is leuker om ze op volgorde te lezen omdat de personages een hele ontwikkeling hebben doorgemaakt. Het is heel bijzonder maar zodra ik in haar boek ga lezen word ik er gelijk door opgeslokt. Het is een prachtig en ontroerend verhaal over vriendschap, liefde en familiebanden. Carrie is ook zo’n lief persoon en is er voor iedereen en neemt zonder dat ze Orla kent haar in huis.
Doordat er een afwisseling is tussen heden en verleden zorgde dit ervoor dat het verhaal meer diepgang kreeg. De schrijfstijl van Holly is zo realistisch en beeldend dat je jezelf rond ziet lopen in het plaatsje. Het is een warm en liefdevol verhaal met een mooie boodschap over tweede kansen en vergeving. Het was zo mooi om te zien dat, wat er ook gebeurde, hun vriendschap sterk genoeg bleef om alles te doorstaan. Ik ben nu al benieuwd wanneer er weer een nieuw boek van haar in Nederland verschijnt.

A lovely read, Holly Martin always writes a beautiful and heartwarming book! I loved how Orla and Shay had such complex childhoods and backgrounds which ultimately influenced all of their decisions and miscommunications, this helped enrich the story and add a level of reality. I liked the smattering of Christmas throughout which made it a festive read which could also be enjoyed year-round.

I think I'm in love... ok I'm definitely in love with Shay.
Holly Martin has written perhaps a perfect book boyfriend. He is flawed but with an incredibly good heart and regardless of his words at times it is clear he treats Orla as though she is the most important person in the world.
But yet they aren't together.
With a rather dramatic opening to this book, we are then treated to the highlights of Orla and Shay when they were growing up together, and could see their connection deepening at all times. That first chapter inside Starlight Cottage was sweet, tender and amazing. I loved it and definitely wishes I was Orla!
And its the present day actions that mean that things come to a head.
In between that we get more of Carrie, Theo, Fern and all the other characters we have grown to love over this series. And I really do love them all, in addition to the setting, which was just perfect.
And then there was the descriptions in particular of a Christmas market that had me definitely feeling festive, not to mention Christmas cookie making and snowmen!
It's a festive treat of a book that I totally devoured. And a lovely ending (I'm guessing it's an ending) to this series.

Al sinds ze Shay op haar veertiende voor het eerste ontmoette behoort Orla's hart stiekem al aan hem toe. Ze ontwikkelen een bijzondere vriendschap en Orla's liefde voor Shay groeit elke kerst verder en verder. Tot op een kerst, die alle verwachtingen had om bijzonder te zijn, een plots einde aan hun hechte vriendschap komt.
Maar deze kerst zou alles wel eens anders kunnen zijn…
Welkom terug in Apple Hill Bay! Waar de romantiek kleffer is dan anders, en zoenen zoeter proeven dan waar ook ter wereld.
Deze keer nam Holly Martin ons mee in het verleden van Orla en Shay. Dit is al een andere insteek dan gewend van Martin, maar ook hier kwam ze moeiteloos mee weg. Wat ze ook schrijft,het is toch elke keer weer geweldig.
Holly Martin wist wederom Apple Hill Bay gedetailleerd te omschrijven als een prachtig oord. Het lijkt me een fantastisch plek om kerst te vieren, warm en huiselijk in de eetkamer van Carrie. Ik voel me al helemaal thuis tussen de personages dat ik ze al bijna als mijn vrienden beschouw.
Holly Martin lezen is elke keer weer raak. Genieten, wegdromen, je stilletjes verwarmen aan de ontluikende liefdes tussen de pagina's…en met De kerstmagie van Cranberry Cove krijg je daar ook nog eens de hemelse kerstsfeer bovenop. Christmas Wishes at Cranberry Cove is the third book in the Apple Hill Bay series by Holly Martin, and just like the others it is full of love, cosiness and is easy to read and get lost in. Although this is the third book, it could definitely be read as a standalone.
Orla has been in love with Shay since she was a teenager. From when they first met Orla and Shay become close and are best friends but for Orla there has always been something more there, a feeling that hasn’t been there for Shay, or so she thinks. Orla left Apple Hill Bay and now on her return she settles once again to have Shay in her life as a best friend. Can they face their fears and be honest with each other?
I loved getting to know Orla and Shay better, they were both lovable and once we discovered what it is that is holding each of them back you start cheering for them to come clean so they can build on their friendship.
Their story is told through the present day and through flashbacks from them growing up together and I thought this was a great way for us to understand their pasts.
We get to return to the beautiful Apple Hill Bay for this story and catch up with some of the characters from the previous books in the story, which made it come together.
If you want to start your Christmas reads but aren’t ready for full on festive cheer this one is for you. Cosy with a little Christmas magic, it is perfect to curl up with and don’t forget your hot chocolate.

I’ve been a big fan of Holly Martin’s books for years now, and I especially enjoy the Christmas ones. So I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Christmas Wishes at Cranberry Cove.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was lovely to finally have Orla’s story. I love both Orla and Shay, and their long history. And of course, I loved Ivy too.
The story was a good one. I felt that the back story was handled well, and the reasons things didn’t work out to start with were realistic. I found part of the story to be more dramatic than Holly’s usual style (I can’t say more without spoilers, there’s a TW at the bottom), but it clearly needed something to get Orla and Shay talking properly! Just maybe save it for a day when you’re not feeling fragile. I loved watching Shay and Orla work through their issues and end up happy.
The atmosphere of the book was lovely and Christmassy, and I loved the setting of Apple Hill Bat in general. It’s such a beautiful place and lovely community.
Overall, this was a Christmassy, romantic delight.

TO Orla
I have read both the previous books and enjoyed them so I had to read this one too. This was such a lovely story about Orla and her family and why they moved to apple Bay. It continues from when she went to Ferns for the very 1st time and how lovely Carrie her mum was and her brothers Theo & Shay. She fell in love with them all. Carrie said she was welcome to come anytime & if she ever wanted to stay over there was a spare bedroom. Orla stayed at Ferns many times as her mum & dad didn't get on and she felt lonely & uncomfortable at home she also had a secret place she used to go and sit in silence and watch the waves & the stars at night. Orlando showed Shay her secret place and he used to join her sometimes and they would talk about their lives and family. Orlando found out Shay was
fostered by Carrie and then adopted. Like Orla he'd had a troubled life befor Carrie adopted him. I'm not giving any more spoilers I just hope you love this book & the other 2 in the series so far. Happy Reading.

Dit boek heeft een echte kerstvibe erin. Ik vond het jammer genoeg wel niet zo een geweldig boek 🫣 Voor mij was het iets te zoetsappig om er echt van te kunnen genieten. De rode draad in heel het verhaal is de liefde tussen Shay en Orla maar de manier waarop het verloopt, werkt een beetje op mijn zenuwen 😅
Het verhaal begint wel goed, er gebeurd iets erg en ipv dat je meteen weet hoe het afloopt, word je terug gekatapulteerd naar het verleden en hoe de vriendschap in eerste instantie is ontstaan. Dat was fijn om te lezen maar er werd te weinig mee gedaan, ik had precies nog meer verhalen gewild van vroeger. Het stoorde dat het heel duidelijk was dat de twee smoorverliefd op elkaar zijn maar dat ze door hun moeilijkere jeugd, altijd een excuus vinden en aan zichzelf twijfelen. Als je van romantische boeken houdt, zal dit je misschien wel kunnen bekoren 🙈

Orla and Shay have known each other since they were teenagers. They are best friends and spend as much time as possible together, and everything should be great. However, Orla has been in love with Shay for years and thinks he doesn't reciprocate her feelings.
I really liked getting to see their story unfold through both the flashbacks and current events. The flashback chapters helped establish the depth of their friendship and how their feelings developed. They were sweet together and I couldn't wait for their HEA. I enjoyed this story so much and hope we get more books in Apple Hill Bay!

De boeken van Holly Martin zijn altijd heerlijk cosy en lezen makkelijk weg. Om dit afsluitende deel in de ‘Appel Hill Bay’ serie neemt ze ons mee in het verhaal van Shay en Orla.
Ze draaien al sinds in hun tienerjaren om elkaar heen. In afwisselend heden en verleden neemt ons mee in hun levens en maken we kennis met ze. Holly voegt altijd iets van een rugzakje toe wat het verhaal net wat meer gelaagdheid geeft.
Dit deel mist een beetje het eilandgevoel, de lunchroom met lekkere taartjes en de gekleurde huisjes, maar hè dat maakt ze goed met 🌶️. Voor haar doen wordt er veel gevreeën en dat is heerlijk.
Kortom ruim twee heerlijke leesuurtjes aan beleefd en dan nu door naar een thriller.

I've been waiting for Shay and Orla's story! I desperately needed to know what had gone on between them and it was so different to what I expected. It was sweet and heartbreaking; from their difficult childhoods to their beautiful friendship, feelings of unworthiness, both with so much love to give and both afraid to show it. At times I wanted to bang their heads together for not getting their act together but I also understood why things had played out that way. I'm so happy they've got their HEA! Holly Martin’s "Christmas Wishes at Cranberry Cove" delivers her signature cosy charm, perfect for festive reading. I’ve always loved the warmth her stories bring, and her Christmas novels are particularly magical. The inclusion of overlapping characters from her other books is a delightful touch. However, the lengthy flashbacks, though important for plot-building, felt excessive and detracted from exploring Shay and Orla’s present. A charming read overall—3/5 stars. Thank you, Holly, for another festive escape!

Another lovely seaside read. This time we get to hear the story of Orla and Shay, best friends since childhood and secretly in love with each other for years. After an accident, they are thrown together even more, but will they both be able to get over the demons of their past, broken childhood and fear of trust to finally admit how they feel? I loved catching up with characters from past books, but it is a stand alone too, so you don't need to have read the others in the series.

This book was such a lovely read, quite predictable but with flawed characters who you fell in love with. The storyline was lovely to follow and slightly festive but it just lacked something for me compared to other books by this author, I enjoyed it but I’ve definitely read better books which were more festive!

This book will have you rooting for this couple and celebrating in there love. Both come from challenging home lives and struggle because of it. Shay has always protected Orla and made her a priority but let her slip away because he thought it was best for her. This second chance romance will warm hearts and make you believe in the power of love.

Definitely Holly Martin's best by far (well from what I've read anyway) - I loved the back and forth style of this book, the flashbacks, the drama and someone definitely turned the heat up for this one 🥵 but this is definitely the best in the Apple Hill Bay Series!
My only issue was the ending felt a bit short and sharp and no epilogue, still a 5* though!

A charming and lovely Christmas read . Two good characters, Orla and Shay , and I loved their story as they go from friends to partners in love over time. It's a book I bought my auntie for Christmas last year and I'm so glad she loved it and I can see why she did . Holly Martin has such a lovely way of writing and her books are like a cosy comfort to read.
