My Favorite Color #2

My Favorite Color is the Golden Hour

Rate this book
A cozy autumn romance, perfect for fans of Kasie West and Rory Gilmore. When her childhood best friend turned enemy arrives back in town after three years, a girl must decide whether to hold onto that grudge or open her heart and finally forgive.

After a recent string of bad luck, Emma’s parents send her to live with grandma for the fall semester in their Carlton Landing vacation home. Never mind that she swore never to return.

But during her autumn banishment, she’s decided to focus on a few simple school work, the fall festival, writing a novel, and, most importantly, arranging a chance meeting with the cute carpenter next door.

But her plans blow off course when Bryson, her childhood best friend, arrives.

Sure, he’s tall and cute and has grown up in a very good way, but three years ago, she promised to hate him forever. She intends to steer clear but soon finds this tiny town won’t let her avoid him…or the nagging feeling that she has it all wrong. He was the one to blame for their broken friendship…right?

Is he merely a distraction from her carefully laid plans with the carpenter, or will Bryson convince her to break that promise to herself and finally forgive?

The Golden Hour is a dual-point-of-view, sweet teen romance book with small-town charm, cozy autumn lake vibes, and a nod to Jane Austen. Don’t miss out on this fun, light-hearted, and sweet fall-themed romance book for teens or anyone.

🍿 – This was such a fun, cozy read. I liked the overall vibe a lot, even if it didn’t totally pull me in the whole time.

🎬 – I thought that the story was really great in this one! It was super fast paced, and very enjoyable. Unfortunately, I did think that the so called “betrayal” that led to them stopping being friends wasn’t super realistic. It just didn’t really seem like that big of a deal to me 🤷

🧍‍♀️– The characters were so cute! I loved how close Bryson was with his younger cousin, and the fact that he read Emma’s books that she wrote was so sweet! Emma, on the other hand, I had sort of mixed feelings about. I felt like she wasn’t very nice to a lot of the people, and, again, I thought she made a big deal of nothing with the “betrayal.”

🥰– The romance was cute, albeit a bit boring at times. I could tell that Bryson really liked Emma, but I had no idea what was going on with Emma the whole time… overall I thought that they were a super cute couple, just not really one that would really last that long.

“Nana, sometimes girls are complicated.”

💗 When I rolled on the floor, giggling, screaming, and kicking my feet, I promise I wasn’t having a seizure. I just read chapter 31.

“Besides, how can you trust anyone who doesn’t like pumpkin muffins?”

📖 Ahhh this hit so hard. Not a literary masterpiece, but I loved it so much. The ending was a little rushed but it was super easy to get into and puts the reader right into the action! And there’s dual POV 😍

“I’ve been looking for you.”
“Yeah? Sorry. I was sleeping. I sort of stayed up all night. But…I’ve been here all along.”

🌊 The characters were sososo relatable. This was a little cringe at times, but cmon. The characters are only kids, which meant related to this book on so many levels. Not to spill my personal life, but like every sentence I was like “real.” Also, FINALLY! A YA book without a toxic family!

“He plops down, and I’m fifteen all over again. One minute, I’m sitting next to Emma, having fun, playing cards, and the next, some jerk’s sitting between us.”

🍁 The setting!? Beautiful. It’s a real place, too, and now I gotta visit. Petition for more small town YA books! The scenery was so fun to read about, and all the little side plots were super fun. Gave all those fall vibes!

“You mean you haven’t noticed how cute he is.”
“Of course I noticed. I’m not dead.”

☕️ The group of friends, and all the memories were (again) so cute and so relatable. It reminds me a lot of my friends at home. So, yeah. That hit hard, too. Emma was pretty stubborn which was annoying but like…I’m also stubborn so REALLL.

“Trust me, if our story were a book, readers would throw it across the room in frustration.”

🎃 Love this cutie book. If you need something short and sweet (shout out Sabrina), especially if you’re trying to squeeze in some books to complete your reading goal (guilty), pick this up! It’s free on kindle unlimited *happy dance* it’s the second in a series but can be read as a standalone. (I didn’t read the first book but had no problems).

“You’re author Emmie Blackwell. Go write your own story.”

4 stars bc reading it brought me happiness 💕

Clean, cute romance! Cozy fall-themed read 🍁☕️☀️☺️
I found the protagonist very relatable - I too just want to curl up and write a book in a coffee shop, and I too try to be bright sunshine when I simply am not.

Go read!!

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. EVA AUSTIN, YOU HAVE OUTDONE YOURSELF, I SWEAR. Okay for starters, amazing, clean, romance book! I giggled, squealed and kicked my feet many times, but nothing in this book is spicy, it’s just very cute. No language, no sex or sexual situations, a few sweet kisses near the end with brushing hair out of the face and hand on cheek. Otherwise, squeaky clean. The amount of plot twists were perfect. I couldn’t recommend this book more. Would recommend for all ages. So, cuddle up with some coffee and a cozy blanket and enjoy reading this book! 🍁☕️

This was good, but kinda cliched, and Emma could be annoying at times.
I like how it ended, but the transition from her liking one guy then the other guy seemed kinda sudden. But I loved the Jane Austen references and quotes and I loved the scene that Will and Morgan were in!!

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH OMG. Probably the sweetest romance book I’ve ever read. And it’s squeaky clean! No spice!!

Language: None

Sexual Content: A kiss or 2 towards the end

Spiritual Content: This book was written by a Christian author, so there are some mentions of God and the Bible.

THIS BOOK GOT ME GIGGLING AND KICKING MY FEET. I PROMISE I WASNT HAVING A SEIZURE.

The plot for this one was straightforward and simple , so it was a pretty fast read .
The romance had its cute moments , a little cheesy even , but it is a YA romance 😜.
The majority of the book centered around Emma hating Bryson for something he did in the past , and while it's understandable to have a hard time forgiving someone , it got to a point where it took away from the story.
I did enjoy it though and would recommend it as a light fall read !

3.75 ⭐️! I liked the story and Bryson, but oh my goodness this girl held a grudge for 3 years that she 100% did not need to be holding. And there were a few grammar mistakes that bothered me. But I liked the book, and I feel like I really need to read pride and prejudice because even the other books I’m reading are telling me to read it lol.

Very, very cute. Glad I read this during the fall season. It’s sweet, funny, and wholesome, and overall a very relaxing read. Despite the few typos and how annoying the main character could get at times, I enjoyed this story a lot. 4.25 stars.

So happy to be back in Carlton Landing! This story is a childhood friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romance with nostalgic fall vibes, and honestly, it was super cute. I loved getting to know Emma better. She’s a photographer, artist, bookworm, author, and works in a cute little coffee shop—this girl does it all 🤣
There were lots of sweet, funny moments that made me smile, and the Jane Austen quotes sprinkled throughout the story were amazing 😍 Filled with humor, heart, nostalgic friendships, and autumn lakeside vibes, this is the perfect book to curl up with on a cosy fall day!

I finished this one in about, oh, an hour or so. I found it worth the hour by the end.
Emma was decent, but I did get slightly annoyed with her character's near-obsession with comparing her life to a romance novel. Even if she was looking for inspiration to finish her own WIP and first draft. And she's certainly stubborn; I don't know if I would be capable of holding a grudge for three years...
I liked Bryson, too, but once again, I struggled through reading the long-lasting pining. I just can't get over waiting forever to tell someone you love them...or even did love them. You don't live forever, and waiting a long time to say important things seems like a waste of time that could be better used. But, eventually, I do digress. I loved his instance about being her wingman, even if he would have rather had her.
I couldn't quite figure out the "betrayal" or "incident" until it was said, which was nice. I dislike being able to guess the plot (or plot points) straight from the beginning lol. But the way it tied together and came out made things interesting...
I gotta love the references to Jane Austen, too! Even if I am not the biggest fan of her myself.
I do think I will go and read "My Favorite Color is Your Something Blue" at some point, though.
MY CONTENT WARNINGS:
Language: 0/5 (the word "stupid" may appear a few times...nothing that caught my eye)
Violence: 0/5 ()
Romance: 1/5 (mentions of a near-kiss and a few brief kisses at the end)

MY FAVORITE COLOR IS THE GOLDEN HOUR made me laugh & swoon, kick my feet & want to scream. Emma and Bryson's story is the perfect mix of small-town, snarky comments, swoon worthy, and silliness.
time to read: ONE NIGHT (5 hours)!!
⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚。: *
EMMA - Our Rory Gilmore coded, sassy, Jane Austen loving female main character! (literally me)
BRYSON - Our heart-broken, flirty, good-time male main character! (AHH)
TYLER - my favorite character (even tho he's 5)
⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚。:*
this novel highlights the themes of young romance, second chances, forgiving, good times, and the impacts of the right friends.
it's a light read by an underrated author, and definitely needs some love <33
WARNING: I only cringed a little, and the formatting bothers me, but thats just because i also write.

PLAYLIST:
undressed - sombr (Bryson - trust me)

Okay... Like.. It was soooo cuteee
Better than the first one in my opinion
I normally dont like the childhood friends to lovers trope but this
*sighs*
It was a breath of fresh air i will tell you that much.

♡︎ 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝚟𝚒𝚋𝚎♡ ︎
---------------------
I loved how it felt so cozy, and refreshing that it left me wanting more.
I felt like it was fun how the author kept having bryson and emma have like
Flashbacks of their childhoods together.
I feel like thats the secret sauce when it comes to this trope.
However, i did feel like the reason why emma was mad at bryson for those three years was
Lame?
I dont really know. It just felt kinds random the reason.

✧ 𝚆𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚜𝚝𝚢𝚕𝚎 ✧
-----------------------
The writing style was soooo flowy.
And she made it descriptive enough to where, its not annoying :)

SO CUUUUUTEEEE
and super clean 🤩

it's just such an entertaining addition for Emma to be a contemporary romance author while she is the main character in this contemporary romance book.

Austin's writing style is so perfect for this genre. I love these books so much. They make me crack up AND whimper which is the greatest.

Bryson is the. best. ever.
and he became even better after saying that Raising Cane's was his favorite fast food restaurant
yes boy

That scene at the end of the book where the two finally FULLY reconciled on the balconies . . .
just, oh my goodness 😍

I also got so much of a kick out of the conversation between Emma and Audrey when Emma says, "Trust me, if our story were a book, readers would throw it across the room in frustration." LOOOL the best. There was no throwing of this book. On the contrary, I couldn't put it down :)

Adorable YA romance! Great cute, fluffy read. Cozy small town vibes, perfect fall seasonal setting (Lattes! Sweaters! Colorful leaves! Town throwing a fall festival!) Main character is a recent high school graduate who loves Jane Austen novels and is working on writing a romcom. Lots of great Pride & Prejudice quotes and references! Romance follows a friends to enemies to ??? trope, with a hunky carpenter side character thrown in that she refers to as McDarcy (a mash up of Grey’s McDreamy and Austin’s Mr Darcy, ha!) And bonus- it’s a completely clean, sweet romance. No language. No innuendo. No sex. No trauma. No drugs/alcohol. So if you have a younger tween interested in reading some romance for the first time, this is a perfect book to hand them. I’d say 6th grade and up. I enjoyed it as an adult :) Cheesy in a good small town romance way, like Gilmore Girls, haha

This book was amazing. I don’t find clean romances easy, but as soon as I got my eyes on this, I had to read it. The story is beautiful, the characters are funny and they seem so real. Sometimes in other romance books, the characters feel very cartoonish, but I loved Emma and everyone around her. The plot hit close to home for me, maybe that’s why I connected with the main character and the story so much.

I haven’t read the third book yet, but this one is my current favourite in the series. Emma and Bryson had something special that made you root for them. I was so happy they made amends and ended up together.

The setting is amazing. Eva’s description of Carlton Landing is so vivid in these books, you can actually see the place in your mind. I adored every single page. I recommend this book to everyone who looks for a sweet clean romance with good vibes.

Once again I have been transported back in time to my younger years with this sweet YA romance. I absolutely love how Eva Austin writes clean romance that I am able to share with my teen daughter. I was able to fall in love with the characters and the story line was well paced. I read “My Favorite Color Is Your Something Blue” last year and highly anticipated the release of this book….it did not disappoint!!

Cute little story, quick to read. It’s definitely predictable from the beginning, but was a good light-hearted read with character banter. I want my house to be Mema’s house someday… the house where all the kids come to and hang out. I also loved the feel of this little town and the community plans/gatherings they hold.
This is definitely a young teenage read, which I sometimes pre-read to approve for my daughter.

It was cute. The storyline was an interesting but like a bit juvenile, holding a grudge for years and not being friends with someone for that is silly. I couldn’t really get into this book, it just wasn’t coming to me but I kept reading. I liked both characters, although they need to start being clear with eachother because it was a whole story of miscommunication I feel like.
