This is a great book by two guys who have been a great source of teaching and encouragement. I will often talk about how my own work lacks the authority to quote as a source, that my students need to go and find those who have done the work. Well, Brad and Brad are two scholars who definitely represent this kind of work.

I have often offered reviews of books about the Lord’s Prayer and have said things like, “Really? Another book about the Lord’s Prayer? Do we really need this?” And the answer is yes. Gray and Nelson do a great job showing why this isn’t just one of many teachings Jesus gave, but a central, time-tested practice for followers of Jesus. None of these books feel like they are “on repeat” and this book is yet another source to help us be inspired and find direction in the prayer Jesus taught us to pray.

This book will be full of historical and contextual insight and goodies; you will learn things from the historical Jewish world of Jesus that you hadn’t learned before. It is a provocative and challenging book — I personally felt assaulted a couple of times during this read (in the best way!). And it’s not just a book that speaks to us as individuals, but it calls to us as a people. If you’re looking to dive deeper into the Lord’s Prayer or willing to consider how it might shape you in the years to come, this is a great source to consider.

4.5🌟
Audiobook & ebook
I have learned so very, very much about reading the Bible in context through the ministry of Walking the Text, especially their teaching series videos. Therefore I knew I wanted to read this book as soon as I heard about it. I was not disappointed. The subtitle is “How The Lord's Prayer Can Change Your Life and Our World,” and the text takes us to many places in Scripture to help us understand this prayer that Jesus told His followers (including me) to pray. The authors remind us of the danger of familiarity that can steal away the power and purpose within this prayer. This book helps us guard against that. I suspect I will dip into this book again in the future, and I highly recommend it to others.

As you might expect from these authors, the book is chock full of textual goodies. For a student of the Bible, this book will not disappoint.

What I did not expect Gray and Nelson to do was to be so vulnerable. Even with a lifetime of practicing this prayer, one may go through various struggles of faith and faithfulness. They shared those moments freely.

I came away encouraged and inspired to practice this prayer more than ever, a journey initially sparked for me when Brad Gray taught on it as part of The Teaching Series a number of years ago. There is an enduring power to these words Jesus handed us thousands of years ago. My hope is for more to see and understand how to join in carrying this practice forward.

Bringing Heaven Here: How The Lord's Prayer Can Change Your Life and Our World

I really liked this book!

The book takes a look at analyzing the Lord's Prayer and really brings its teachings to everyday decisions, relationships, and habits.

The two Brads really bring an accessible level of writing to this book. It was a great way to unpack the full context of the prayer, and what the original audience would have heard in that time.

I enjoyed it a lot, and learned a lot about the depth of God's character.

I highly recommend this book. Especially for those who have heard or said the Lord's Prayer, but maybe it has gone flat. If you want to reinvigorate your relationship, check this book out!

Bringing Heaven Here is a poignant, informative, and fresh look at a the most common prayer known to man. I love how it takes The Lord’s Prayer and breaks it down, line by line, to provide historical insights that shape the interpretation and intention behind the words. It is powerful and beautiful and challenging and encouraging. I especially enjoyed the audiobook and hearing the authors narrate their own sections and stories that shaped their writing. This is one that I will listen to more than once and will enjoy a print copy to study more in-depth.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

This one felt like to me one of those books that quietly shifts how you see everyday life. It’s not preachy or heavy; instead, it reads like a gentle reminder that meaning and purpose show up in the ordinary if we learn to pay attention. It’s the kind of book that leaves you a bit calmer and a bit clearer about what really matters.

It has been a while since I listened to books with religious grounding so this is alao me looking things from Chritian perspective.

I love the narration of both authors as they sound to me like calm and full of wisdom.

Reading Bringing Heaven Here: How The Lord’s Prayer Can Change Your Life and Our World by Brad Gray was a meaningful and reflective experience for me. I have heard the Lord’s Prayer many times before, but this book helped me see it in a deeper and more thoughtful way. As a reader, I felt that it encourages people to slow down and truly understand the words that many of us often say without thinking.

One thing I appreciated most was how the book explains the prayer step by step. Each line of the Lord’s Prayer is explored with its historical and cultural meaning. While reading, I realized that these words had a powerful message for people in Jesus’ time and still have importance today. The explanations made the prayer feel alive and relevant to everyday life.

I also liked how the book connects faith with daily actions. It talks about how we can bring positive change into our lives and relationships by following the message of the prayer. The ideas about healing broken relationships, standing against wrong, and living with purpose felt practical and encouraging. It made me think about how faith can influence the way we treat others and make decisions.

Another thing I enjoyed was the calm and thoughtful tone of the writing. The book does not feel complicated, even though it talks about deep spiritual ideas. Instead, it guides the reader gently toward understanding and reflection. I found myself pausing at times to think about how these teachings apply to my own life.

Overall, I found this book inspiring and insightful. It helped me look at a familiar prayer in a new way and understand its message more clearly. For readers interested in faith, personal growth, and spiritual reflection, this book offers a meaningful journey.

Bringing Heaven Here was written to help readers see how powerful The Lord’s Prayer is and how it can change our lives. Because we know it so well, we might just repeat it out of habit and not really think about what it means. I like how the authors help us look at Jesus’s example of prayer in a fresh, new way.

“I you don’t understand it rightly, you’ll obey it wrongly.”
~ A quote from Rabbi Eugene Peterson

I appreciate how this book explains the meaning and background of The Lord’s Prayer. It starts with the first two words, “Our Father.” God calls Himself our Father—not like fathers on earth, who sometimes make mistakes, but as the One we can always trust. He is always close to us, forgives us, shows us grace, and gives us strength. He made us in His image and loves and cares for us deeply.

This book is a thoughtful invitation to rediscover the depth, beauty, and context of The Lord’s Prayer. It encourages us to slow down, reflect, and let these powerful words transform how we connect with God and live our faith each day.

First Line: If the world feels louder, faster, angrier, lonelier, and more divided than you remember, it’s not just you.

One of my primary goals this year is to grow in my relationship and intimacy with God, not with a perfectionist agenda, but with softness and intention. Reading Christian literature that points me to abundant living and my purpose as a Christ follower allows me to do that.

I learn best through content I can interact with and engage with through questions, memorable frameworks, and action steps. I trust that the framework outlined in Bringing Heaven Here will allow me to do that with the Lord's Prayer.

I’ve often heard of the power of the Lord's Prayer, but this is the first resource I have personally found that breaks it down in a way I can understand. W Publishing books always break concepts down in a way that is digestible and easy to cement in my memory.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

This is one of the best books I have read in the past few months.
It is well-researched with lots of new insights into biblical texts, full of interesting quotes and historical information, and engaging personal stories from both authors.
I especially enjoyed the audio version - yet the print version is great for individual and/or group study.
