Great story to read to the kiddos - the pictures really rope them in. Now, if you’re looking for gripping plot that will rope in you, the adult, reading these tales, you might not be wading into the depths of excitement. BTEY - Bring the Excitement Yourself.

A collection of quick, illustrated Marvel stories.

-Captain Marvel can't find Chewie and enlists Rhodey's help to see if her archnemesis took the Flerken.
-Ms Marvel teams up with Captain Marvel to capture the Inventor and prevent him from using stolen Wakandan tech.
-Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy try to catch a new pair of thieves in town, Finesse and The Spot.
-When Wakanda's national defense system goes down T'Challa needs Shuri's help to find the culprit and fix the problem.
-Both Hawkeyes, Clint and Kate, are trying to stay on top of their training and decide to use pranks to help keep each other on their toes, but know when to be serious and help out their neighborhood too.
-Dr. Strange and Scarlet Witch get trapped in some of Dormammu's magic that has them looping through their pasts, remembering their lives before they realized they needed to change and become better people. (Note: While the message of this story is great, that anyone can turn their lives around and focus on helping others, Dormammu has a flaming skeleton head and is a bit scary looking.)
-Winter Soldier and Captain America become aware of something invading an unused S.H.I.E.L.D. base and Bucky has to confront Jack O'Lantern. (Note: Jack O'Lantern has a flaming pumpkin head and is a bit scary.)
-Continuing the previous story, Winter Soldier and Falcon go looking for the force field projector that was stolen from the base.
-Loki tells how he accidentally helped Thor meet Sif, and then Sif annoyingly started talking Thor out of falling for his tricks, so he made Sif bald. Of course that didn't end well, so he had to make Sif's hair reappear in just days, or else.
-Jane tells how she went from being a caring doctor who was sick herself to the Mighty Thor.
-Tells how Shang-Chi was raised in China as if growing up in the Qing Dynasty and how he stopped his father from taking over the world, then joined the Avengers.
-The final story tells how Peter Parker became Spider-Man and how he uses his powers to help his community.

I'm having trouble figuring out who the target audience is for this story collection. The writing incorporates some higher vocabulary so it may be tougher for some lower grade readers, though the complexity of the sentences and stories is fairly simple. All of the stories have bad guys being subdued fairly quickly with minimal violence, and there's a heavy emphasis on using powers to help make the community a better, safer place, and to help people. But there's also the scary-looking Dorammamu and Jack O'Lantern that may be too much for some lower grade readers. Just make sure you know the reader you hand this to, and I wouldn't suggest it for preschool bedtime stories.

(4☆ Would recommend)
Great bedtime book for super hero loving kids. The 5-minute stories are a great length for bedtime. The only negative is that we also have a 5-Minute Spiderman Stories book and 2 of the exact same stories are in both books.

Dad read this story to me during bedtime a couple of nights in a row. I liked hearing about Spider-Man the most. My cousin Brody loves Spider-Man so I could see the pictures looked like some of his toys.

It could be worse given that these 5 minute story collections for kids are often...underwhelming. I appreciate that Marvel is bringing in a more diverse group of characters. I've read this to my kiddo more than once and I can say that it's not terrible.

If it wasn't for my boyfriend liking me to read him to sleep then I probably wouldn't have read it, but I think it teaches good lessons to kids.

Join mighty heroes on adventures to protect the galaxy from all kinds of evil. Miles Morales is just an average kid until the day he is bitten by a spider and becomes a Spider-Man. Gamora travels with the guardians of the galaxy and learns that friends can be family. Steve Rogers isn’t physically cut out to be a soldier, but he is chosen to be the world’s first super soldier. For the first time, Spider-Man gets to work together with the other avengers. Hawkeye and Black Widow learn to trust each other, even when they want to argue. Captain Marvel becomes the most powerful superhuman in the universe. Iron Man discovers that violence isn’t always the answer. Black Panther fights to save the people and animals of his country. Star Lord learns to give new friends the benefit of the doubt. From Earth to far-away planets, these heroes are working hard to stand up for what is right.

This book includes quick short stories about Marvel superheroes. They are concise, exciting, and contain as little violence as possible. The heroes in the stories focus on capturing villains, not hurting them. Each story also has a respectable moral. Many teach about friendship, while others teach about confidence and other important lessons. All this makes the book suitable for even young children. The stories are explained well enough that those who are unfamiliar with Marvel will be able to enjoy them. Those who already have some knowledge, however, will enjoy the dialogue even more because of the inside jokes and appearances by other characters. However, those who know the heroes may be confused by what appear as discrepancies, since their personalities are derived from both their movies and their comic books. Nonetheless, most readers should find the stories sufficiently enjoyable.

*Contains mild violence.

Read this with my 5 year old, who loves the 5 Minute Stories books. The first half is really fun, the second half drags a little, as far as reading through in order I think if it was mixed up a bit the pacing would be better. But now that we’ve read them all we often go back and revisit our favorites.

Also, I love how many of the stories feature female heroes and sidekicks!

Do not be fooled it does not take 5 minutes to read these stories… so many details about operations and missions and S.H.I.E.L.D and tech and devices… I should rate higher because my kid loves them, however it is so so much to endure!!!
