But their peace does not last long.

With Gideon and his mage, Erissa in the wind, Aelia and her friends set out to find the infamous Trinity Wells—ancient pools of magic hidden by the goddesses of the Trinity across the continent with the power to bring back the gods of old and destroy the world.

With no time to spare, Caiden, Tharan, and Aelia separate to each seek out a Well. Thrown into a world of lies, deceit, and political intrigue, the three must traverse vast landscapes, face ancient monsters, and conquer their greatest fears.

But the Fates have their own plans, and someone is hiding a secret that could destroy them all.

When Caiden and Aelia find themselves captured, they must work together to escape Erissa’s clutches and reunite with Tharan before the Wells fall into the wrong hands. But getting through the trials of the Trinity requires a sacrifice none are ready to make.

And the coolest Court Title goes to:
🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Aelia Springborn, Traitorous Queen, Mind Breaker, Commander of the Army of the Dead, and now Slayer of Sirens.

As this is book two, I already loved all the characters in this adventure except for one (if you know, you know). Was I all that surprise given the situation? No but at the same time it was still heartbreaking for Aelia to find out the way that she did.

All I can say is I absolutely NEED book 3 ASAP 🤗

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

Themes: These continue from the first book with one additional theme, a love triangle, and a warning of torture.

As mentioned above this book continues from the first book when Aelia manages to rescue her sister Bayliss. (no spoiler as this was discussed at the end of the first book) Her sister is a traitor and although I was yelling this at my book for the first 40% I was so glad that Aelia was not a dumb FMC and quickly clocked on.

Tharan may be one of those male book characters that I will forever love as he is EVERYTHING that Aelia needs but also so caring for all of her friends, even those with a past. I wish more people were like this in real life but alas. Sadly, I do think this is probably his biggest downfall when it comes to the next book (this is a prediction).

The story itself was crafted well between the multiple POVs, where one would end with a cliffhanger and would eventually loop back or where one POV would carry on for three chapters as it was then easier to tell the story. Seamless transitions between all the chaotic/shocking events as well.

this story has even more twists and turns than I did not expect at first, and I truly love these characters. My only critique (and this could be personal) is that it was a little slow or slower than the first so it took me a little longer to connect with the characters again fully. BUT saying that if you read the first book and followed it immediately with this one I think it would be fine.

Like I said with the first book, please someone read it so we can talk.....

What a sequel!! From beginning to end there was action and adventure! Lots of new world building and characters are introduced. And that ending 😩 KW Foster has done it again! What a cliffy— book 3 soon please!

Always team Tharan over here, even if Caiden has a small edge, we are sticking with Tharan 😍 Also, Aelia is BA as always! And Gideon can eat poop 😆

This was such a great read! There was tons of action and this book got taken in a totally different direction than book one. I just love the FMC so much and I honestly eat up a lil love triangle so much 😂 The ending happened soooo fast I am dying for the next book! Thank you to the author for the arc!

First off I have to say, I’m new to The Mind Breaker series but I am definitely a fangirl now ! Wow A Vow of Wrath and Ruin is an amazing follow up to KA Fosters debut, A Curse of Breath and Blood.
This book has lost loves, new loves, found family, allegiances with new allies, betrayal, struggle of power, mages, witches and the protagonists constantly on the move to outsmart and outplay their growing group of nemesis’s. Yes so much going on, and I so, soo loved it. Oh and there is not one but two MMC’S that give readers tantalizing “who to choose” moments 😍 ( team Tharan 🤭)!

Aside from the romance, steaminess and creative world building, a word or feeling that has stood out for me in this book and even since the beginning of this series is “Resilience” . This truly represents the FMC, Aelia. From her deepest lows of loss, betrayals and personal demons, she persistently perseveres to fight for the ones she loves, her world and ultimately her heart. All that makes for an amazing FMC that readers want to root for and follow as she maneuvers through turbulent journeys and trials to work to build her confidence.

ARC Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Highly Recommend

If you’re looking for a new dark fantasy series with intrigue, steamy spice, prophecies and ancient magic, its the perfect series.

I’ll start by saying that I deeply appreciate the opportunity to read/review this. Also fully recognize that this is a good book that people will LOVE. So do not allow my review to deter you. You should definitely check this out.

This is a 3.5 for me. I honestly just had a hard time getting into this. I read the first one a loved the characters but this one felt a bit rushed in some areas and dragged in others. I had a hard time connecting to the characters in a way that made me engaged to find out what happens with them.

****Spoilers ****

I very quickly finished book one in this series and appreciated how similar the world creating was similar to the SJM universe and drew similarities with ACOTAR/TOG as it was where I started my reading journey after my fourth child was born and I .

All that to say I was extremely disappointed when it became apparent that there was significant overlap (IMO close to downright scene plagiarism…..) When it came to how similar (um the poisons test that Aelia had to pass through in the well?!?!) not to mention-alllllll of the characters with similar if not the same names.

It’s funny because it’s like she took the names of the characters from a mix of ACOTAR/TOG, and the story line from TOG (Aelia/Aelin from TOG- both being half breed-in love a love triangle with a lord/warrior and with a prince/king) There’s a Cassian, and Lyssandra mentioned briefly in Thanan’s POV. The Morrigan is literally by name from ACOTAR, the pirate… I mean I could probably pull more out if all of this if this wasn’t just off the top of my head.

This book is just a no from me, highly disappointed after how the first one started. The second started off well, and just went downhill from there and didn’t sit with me right. Giving it two stars only because it was a promising read until about 35% of the way through.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I had the privilege of being an ARC reader and am so greatful that I was. Just like the first book I devoured this book and now am left hanging wondering what is going to happen next. This book had spice, more world building and character development, romance, violence, angst and drama. I love the way K.W. Foster writes Aelia and her struggles, her past and of course her trauma, she really is a BA. This book explores her growth and how she starts to heal a bit more in this book.

I am not surprised that this book ended with a huge but yet perfect cliffhanger. I can not wait to see what Aelia has in store next….now I need to go collect myself while I wait for the 3rd book.

Arc read of Wrath and Ruin was hard hitting, and we love a bit of ocean lore. If you're a big adventures, many lands, epic fantasies reader this had all the touch points.

Blood, blades, and sea queens with vengeance, but it was really the lovers that kept me turning pages. Will they won't they? We will see I suppose...

She loves a few mind games and a trial or two. Not to mention that feeling of, 'why has he been good to her, but not to me', is such the plight of women, and anyone experiencing abuse at the hands of those with power.

I have a feeling this is the kind of story that will only get better as we go deeper so cheers to the next installment coming for us sometime hopefully soon!

Why are these endings harder to read with each book?! I need Aelia to catch a break. I need Aelia and Tharan to have a happy ending.

Ok, rant over! This was such a good book! Action packed in every chapter! So much death, betrayal, lustful longing, self sabotaging thoughts, and brutal kill scenes.

Every page turn left me wanting more and needing answers. I will be impatiently waiting for book 3!

If you have not read this series, you absolutely must! Especially if you love ACOTAR, very similar vibes.

ARC Review: A Vow of Wrath and Ruin by K.W. Foster

I just finished the second installment of the Mindbreaker series, and I have exactly one question: HOW am I supposed to recover from that cliffhanger?! K.W. Foster, you did NOT just do that to me. My jaw was on the floor, my emotions were all over the place, and now I have to wait for book three? Unacceptable.

This book picks up right where A Curse of Breath and Blood left off, and from page one, the stakes are sky-high. Aelia, Tharan, Caiden, and the rest of the crew are on different quests, searching for answers and desperately trying to stop the dark forces threatening their world. Every decision they make is make-or-break, and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

The Relationships & ALL the Feelings-

Let’s talk about Aelia and Tharan first, because WOW. Their relationship in this book? Absolute fire. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and every moment they share is charged with love, tension, and pure heat. The way they understand each other, the way they fight for each other—obsessed. And let’s be real, the spicy scenes? PERFECTION. K.W. Foster knows how to balance steam with deep emotional connection, and every single scene between them had me hooked.

But then there’s Aelia and Caiden, and oh my heart. Their history, their past love, the pain of what they once had—it was gut-wrenching to read. Every scene between them carried so much emotional weight, and I couldn’t help but ache for them. You can feel the love that still lingers between them, the unspoken words, the hurt, and the what-ifs. It’s tragic and heartbreaking, and I just want them both to find peace and happiness, even if it’s not with each other.

Beyond the romance, this book is packed with intense action, betrayals, shocking twists, and battles that had me stressed the entire time. The prophecies hanging over them add a sense of doom, making every moment feel like it could be their last. Just when you think things might calm down—boom! Another curveball.

And the world-building?! Absolutely stunning. K.W. Foster has crafted such an immersive, beautifully detailed world that pulls you in completely. The magic, the lore, the different regions—it all makes the story feel so rich and alive. I loved how the stakes just kept getting bigger, pushing the characters to their limits.

And That Ending?!

I was NOT prepared. I repeat, I WAS NOT PREPARED. That cliffhanger left me in emotional distress. I had to sit there, staring at the last page, processing my feelings. K.W. Foster really said, “Good luck waiting for book three.”

If you love high-stakes fantasy, intense romance, jaw-dropping twists, and characters that make you feel everything, this series is a must-read. Just be warned—your heart will be wrecked, and you will be begging for the next book.

"A Vow of Wrath and Ruin", didn’t just meet my expectations—it shattered them. This is dark fantasy at its finest, blending epic stakes with raw emotional depth. From the very first page, I was utterly engrossed in the harrowing quest for the Trinity Wells, a race against time to outmaneuver the sinister forces of Erissa and Gideon. But be warned: this is no lighthearted adventure. The emotional weight of Aelia’s journey, and the fates of those she loves, left me breathless, heartbroken, and desperate for more.
The story unfolds through three key perspectives, but it’s Aelia’s first-person narrative that truly anchors the tale. Her voice is fierce yet vulnerable, a testament to how far she’s come. Tharan’s love has softened her, revealing hidden depths of compassion, but her mercenary past has forged her into a warrior capable of facing impossible odds. Every battle, every sacrifice, every moment of doubt feels viscerally real, especially when confronting her mother, one of the three Fates, or when the dormant magic within her begins to awaken with terrifying consequences.

Tharan and Caiden are more than just supporting characters; they are pillars of the story, intricately tied to Aelia’s destiny. Their separate journeys—fraught with danger, moral dilemmas, and heart-wrenching choices—mirror the overarching theme of fate itself. And they’re not alone. The world Foster has crafted teems with vivid, deadly creatures and complex side characters, each adding layers of intrigue and peril.

The pacing is relentless, hurtling toward a climax that defies expectations. If you’re hoping for a neat, happy resolution, think again. Foster delivers an ending so explosive, so devastating, that I’m already counting down the days until Book 3. “A Vow of Wrath and Ruin” isn’t just a sequel—it’s a triumph, proving that the darkest stories often shine the brightest.

3.5 🌟

“The world will always try to tear us apart, Aelia, but I promise you this. I will always come back to you. I will find you in the darkness and in the light. I will walk through fire to get back to you, and I will conquer death if it means I can spend just one more night in your arms.” (ch 9)

The 2nd installment in the Mind Breakers series picks up where A Curse of Breath and Blood left off. [If you haven't read book 1, there are spoilers in this review.]

Aelia has her sister, Baylis, back, though something seems off with her, but she files it in the back of her mind. She's got other things to worry about.

Now that Caiden has no recollection of their relationship, other than a nagging feeling, Aelia starts to give Tharan more of a chance. They turn up the spice a few notches, but she still holds back a little, not able to fully trust her feelings or trust that his feelings for her are true. They embark on separate journeys (using magical means to communicate long distance) to head off Gideon and Erissa from obtaining the Trinity Wells.

I'm not a smoker, so don't get the appeal and that makes me a little biased, but the amount of time smoking or dragging on a cigarette in the 2nd chapter alone was just a little annoying. I mean, smoking cigarettes was minimally mentioned in the 1st book, but this seemed a tad excessive, even if to demonstrate an addiction.

The journey is riddled with danger, shocking secrets, and hidden power. And a betrayal that Aelia should have seen coming. The love triangle circles back around, and they all have to face the trials together -- which seemed rather quick, but the twist ending and cliffhanger are world shaking! Though I enjoyed book 1 over 2, that ending has me hooked and wanting to read book 3 to see what becomes of them.

As always, I am thankful beyond measure for the privilege of being entrusted with an ARC ❤️
Now, for the review... I have been dreading finishing this book, I have been eyeing it and eyeing it, and fearing having to come to the end of it (and alas, it happened)! And the reason is because I knew it would be so good and so heartbreaking! And I was so right! Now I NEED to know more! I am dying to know more! The book ends marvellously and cruelly, and I can't wait to get book 3!!!

This book had it all, romance, spice, violence, betrayals, scheming, more of the amazing worlbuilding and back story!

I keep on loving the way K. W. Foster writes Aelia and her struggles, her past and her trauma, how she made her grow and heal a bit more on this book! It really feels like you are progressing with her and not just a magically leap from broken to healed! I love that she has no fear of breaking hearts, too!!! I am usually not very keen on love triangles, but I am actually curious and engaged with the way K. W. Foster plays with the emotions between Aelia and Caiden and Aelia and Tharan! Also, the maturity Tharan has in regards to her past and her story with Caiden! It really makes sense given his age, and it is a thing I don't see portrayed very often, for ancient beings as him to have a whole other degree of maturity and calm even when bothered or threatened!

All and all, I am broken in heart but whole in reading! As any book should leave someone! Great book, perfect cliffhanger! Can't wait for book 3 and any others to come!!! ❤️

This is one of the those books where readers are taken through the full gamut of emotions - from rage to lust to gut wrenching sorrow. And it was so artfully done that you cannot wait for the next book. Besides being a well written fantasy book, I loved all the elements that were incorporated, found family, epic quests, forced proximity, spicy burn, and amazing side characters just to name a few.
I loved while the main POV was told from Aelia, it did rotate and highlighted both Tharan and Caiden. With all of the moving pieces, having these multiple views points allowed the plot to become more layered and nuanced. Plus there these moments where things were starting to build and you were on the edge of your seat waiting for things to fall into place. I also loved that this book has multiple antagonists and the full implications of their plans will continue to unravel in the future books of this series. Just gives the readers more characters to yell at.
Honestly, this is one of my favorite series, the character and world building is exquisite - this is the fantasy world that I wish I could live in. K.W. Foster is a true master of the written word and is able to completely capture the reader’s imagination. Wish there was an option to give this book a 7 out of 5.

I didn't think the next book on from A Curse of Breath and Blood (Book 1) could get much better, but I think I've been happily proven wrong. A Vow of Wrath and Ruin had so many things going on and made me feel so many things. My head was in a spin at times. So much action, so many moments that gripped my heart, betrayal I wasn't prepared for. My poor little heart was racing, flipping, and aching.
The world building is rich, which is something I adore in books as I like to immerse myself in that world. This had a rich magical world that has depth and characters that bring the story to life ..and just when you feel settled, there's a new twist, and you unravel all over again.

I loved the characters - Aelin, Tharan, and Caiden especially. Each had their own race against time, darkness ensuing. Their relationships were captivating and intense. Again, with the feels!
If you love a good damaging cliffhanger, rich world building, characters and relationships, the spiciest of spice and some emotional damage thrown in to make you feel it ALL, then this is a must-read! It certainly ticked all my boxes!! The absolute beauty in all this? There's a Book 3!! Can't wait!

This book was a wild ride. Honestly I’m so enthralled in this whole series, and I’m not sure if I have the words of what is so gripping, but it’s just top notch to me. The way the characters are, the history that’s built between them, and how much pain these people go through is so intense in such a good way.

I would say the only thing leaning me away from a full 5 stars is how the main character sometimes went a lot deeper into questioning herself than I would’ve loved, especially for an otherwise very strong female character. This meant that the middle of the book felt longer than it needed to while the ending felt pretty rushed.
***Spoiler here only*** I loved the trials at the end because it felt quick enough that it wasn’t drawn out, but it did lead up to a very quick ending that I wish we had more time for with all that happened. I’m gonna need some answers real quick in an upcoming book, and I have to say - I will be happily (albeit maybe a little impatiently) waiting for the third book in this really wonderful series.

I am rating this book a 4.5 but have put it as 5 stars here so as not to rate it below 4.5.

I would like to start by saying thank you to K.W. Foster for the opportunity to read this ARC and for allowing me to be a part of her amazing street team! I have loved being a part of this journey with you and am along for the ride!! ❤️

AVOWAR is the second book in The Mind Breaker Series. This series is filled with magic, elves, and of course mind breaking. This book brought me right back to the end of the first book and kept me hooked the entire way. Am I even surprised that the second book ended with the biggest cliffhanger EVER?!?! I will admit I am a bit upset but is the third book ready to read yet?? Haha. I love my fantasy books and AVOWAR did not disappoint. I’m always begging for more Tharion and this book didn’t disappoint! Will we see a return of a love triangle?? Only time will tell!

ARC Review
4/5 stars
3/5 spice

Wow wow wow wow! Firstly, thank you so much K. foster for allowing me to read the second book early, I am never disappointed when it comes to K.W Foster, she’s such a talented writer and all the different perspectives is always a beautiful touch! As always this book is part of a series so it does leave off on a cliffhanger, the adventure she took us on was amazing as it was one I was hoping we would delve into since the first book!

The world-building was flawless as always, such detail to give you just enough but not over done, the characters growth; some new as well, I don’t know which character I’ve fallen more for, come back in 10-20 business days when I gather my thoughts after everything I’ve read. The spice, wow, didn’t know she had it in her (the author) but I will say I loved the different spices in this book!

Let’s just say, I’m not ready for book three so I’m glad there’s some time before then! But secretly am ready hahah

“You saved me more than you know.”

Ahhhh I was thrilled to read the second book in the Mind Breaker series and see Aelia kick some @ss (she’s a bad@ss)! I loved the first book and was excited to hop back into this world. The characters really add a lot of depth to the story, and Aelia is both entertaining and fierce. Between the action and adventure, the drama and angst, and the spice and magic – I truly enjoyed this book. The ending was shocking, and that cliffhanger has me still floored days later. I NEED THE NEXT BOOK!

3.5 ✨ 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Thank you KW Foster for providing the arc in exchange for my honest review.

My mind is currently reeling after that ending! A Vow of Wrath and Ruin was a giant adventure! I really enjoyed the different parts of the land they explored throughout the book.

Tharan and Caiden are such likeable characters! I really loved seeing more of Tharan’s relationship with Aelia in this book and how much he truly loves and cares for her. Aelia’s character also showed a lot of growth in this book and I loved seeing that transformation from book 1.

What was missing for me to give 5 stars: I felt myself getting lost from time to time and had to go back and reread parts. I also felt some of the conversational dialogue between characters didn’t seem to have a natural flow.

Overall, I enjoyed this book & I can’t wait for book 3!! Especially after that ending!! 🤯

I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.

The love triangle, Aelia, Tharan, and Caiden, splits up in a race against time to beat King Gideon and the evil mage, Erissa, to find the Trinity Wells, ancient magic long hidden by the goddesses that would bring back the old gods and destruction to the world. I enjoyed the storyline where Aelia had to capture the siren's song in order to gain passage to see her mother, Morta, and the other Fates, who can see the past, the present, and the future.

Caiden uncovers history books, which align with constellations to reveal a hidden map that leads to what they're looking for.

I just want Aelia to find happiness. Tharan seems to be the one who could finally make her happy, but his power hungry grandfather, King Arendir, and mother, Elowen, want to marry him off to a woman from a respected elven house to protect their pureblood line. I wanted more scenes of Tharan with his mother, who he thought was dead his whole life.

Baylis was the ultimate betrayal. Blinded by her love for her sister, Aelia could not believe that Baylis would choose her cruel husband over their sisterhood. Where was Gideon this whole book?

The romance was missing swoonworthy moments for me. Sometimes, I did not even know if I should root for Tharan or Caiden. When I finally accepted that Caiden wouldn't be the one to end up with Aelia in this book, Erissa unexpectedly did something that stopped him from moving on. UGH.

The ending was a good cliffhanger, and it definitely raised the stakes for the next book.

What a sequel! The second installment of the Mind Breaker series did not disappoint. The perfect blend of epic stakes and romance; THIS is what dark fantasy is all about.

I was completely hooked from the very beginning and continued to love our characters from the first book. I loved the ancient magic and high stakes while still pining over Tharan. K.W. Foster’s character development has been excellent throughout.

The cliffhanger though. Oh my god. My soul was shattered. In need of book 3 immediately!

If you love dark fantasy please please please do yourself a favor and pick up the Mind Breaker series!

Thank you K.W. Foster allowing me the honor of this ARC. This is an honest review and thoughts are my own.

K.W. Foster?!? How could you with this book?! The rollercoaster of emotions I experienced leading up to that ending….😮‍💨 I will definitely not stop thinking about it.

Aelia, Tharan, and Caiden continue on their adventure of trying to stop Gideon and Erissa from ending the world. With the multi-POV, we, as the reader, experience different parts of the world through the eyes of the characters. I enjoyed the differences in their experiences and how they perceive each other as well. The magic system in this book continues to be unique and the growth that we see in K.W. Foster as an author and the characters is amazing! 🤩 This book was truly a 5/5 in the Mindbreaker Series and I cannot WAIT until book 3 comes out!

Wow! What a whirlwind. Where do I even start? I loved this book so much! Throughout this book, I laughed, I kicked my feet, I screamed, I cried. I absolutely love Aelia and Tharan, they are my babies. I adored seeing them grow and change as people from the first book to this one. I had so many moments between them highlighted, they’re just adorable. The romance and the spice is perfectly mixed with action and angst in this book.
The way that K. W Foster writes is so intriguing and captivating, I really enjoy it. This book is action packed and I enjoyed every second of it. The ending caught me so unbelievably off guard, I was in absolute shock. I need the next book right this second!

Omg, staring into the void after that ending - consider me SHOOK! I was completely immersed in this world, rooting for every character (well, the good ones). The different courts, each with their own themes and creatures, made the journey feel so vivid and dynamic. The magic system was incredible, with every character playing a vital role. But what really got me was the FMC’s emotional struggle between the two men she loves—her heartache and indecision added so much depth to the story. I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time and recommending it to everyone. I can't wait to see what comes next!

K.W Foster once again masterfully blends fantasy and romance, creating a world that feels both immersive and emotionally charged. The pacing is chef’s kiss, a great balance of action, romance, spicy chapters, and gut-wrenching emotional moments. And just when I thought I had the entire book figured out… THAT ENDING. Aelia seriously needs a break; please give this poor woman a break.
I’m left wholly shattered and counting the days until the next book.
If you love fast-paced romantasy with epic world-building, perfectly placed spice, and a storyline that keeps you hooked, this series will check all those marks.
But fair warning: be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster.

Thank you, K.W Foster, for the ARC.
All opinions are my own.
