Leaving Dorian

Rate this book
Leaving Dorian is a story about finding hope and embracing the unknown as recounted by domestic violence survivor Linda Dynel.

“This story takes you from beginning to end of the thoughts and actions of what our women face on a daily basis. A real woman’s perspective on every emotion that our ladies are experiencing. Thank you, Linda, for sharing your story. You are a testament to our ladies who often feel there’s no way out.” - Delena Trent, Executive Director of The Caring Place, Lebanon, KY

“Leaving Dorian takes you through a personal journey of intimate partner violence and the enormous psychological tension preceding physical abuse. The book also illustrates the re-victimization many women endure and the strength of the human spirit to overcome. This is a must-read and should be on the required reading list for all domestic violence advocates.” Connie Little, Executive Director of Turning Point Domestic Violence Services, Prestonsburg, KY

“Downloaded it and read it in two days. Excellent book; I would highly recommend it to anyone!” - Heather Frost, Domestic Violence Program Manager, ACCORD, Belmont, NY

Linda Dynel is the recipient of the Zonta Club of Niagara Falls, New York 2016 Distinguished Woman of the Year Award in recognition of her continued efforts to educate the public on the issue of domestic violence and for her support of Zonta International’s “Say NO! To Violence” Program.

A brutally honest, gripping story that sheds light on the complexities that entangle domestic violence victims in abusive relationships. The story begins on the author's Independence Day, when she tells her young daughters they're going "on an adventure," quickly packs up their belongings, and they run for their lives. The author weaves together an engaging account of what it was like to actually flee the marriage, alternating with scenes from the history of their relationship which answer the question every survivor is asked: why didn't you just leave? (As if it is ever that simple!). Great writing, great telling of a terrible but all-too-common true story. To the author - thank you for writing this book!

wow. wow. wow. So brave for her to write down her experiences to be shared with the masses. Her story is gut wrenching but her perseverance is inspiring.
