Deadwater

Most people who know anything of England's history will remember that King John lost his treasure in the Wash.

In those days there were no commercial banks, so he had to carry his valuables with him - bags and bags and bags of them. From King's Lynn he was on dry ground as far as Swineshead Abbey where he died, but his treasure never emerged.

Recently a big contractor has been making three enormous reservoirs at the southern end of the Wash to provide fresh water for miles around. Underwater deposits of centuries have been exposed, perhaps where the treasure is most likely to be found. Treasure Trove, surely! - but that depends on the honesty of those involved.
