These Hallowed Binds
Their Guardian is dead. The world is next.
Years ago, the corrupt immortal, Ta'Nathel, slayed Silvirdia's Empyreal Guardian and claimed the world for himself. Now, a calamitous curse creeps over the entire world, leaving the Wardens as Silvirdia's only hope against the world's imminent self-destruction.
Eighteen-year-old Norielle lives in a town convinced that they are immune to Ta'Nathel's curse, but when she witnesses her town lake come alive and drown her father, Norielle realizes that nowhere is safe. I don’t have words! It gets all the stars. Five won’t do. This book had everything going for it. A well built world. An intriguing magic system. Characters each with their own stories and personalities that all drew you to them. High stakes. A tragic villain. And even *gasps* a love triangle that I actually enjoyed.
I’ve been anticipating reading this book for months and in no way did it disappoint. Does it have an absolutely gorgeous cover that I admire every time I see it? YES! Did I enjoy it even more than I thought I would? Yes! Did I stay up til almost midnight and finish it in a day? Yes. Do I regret it? NO! Finally, the ultimate question: am I still team Elias? YES! (I’ll have to admit though, Daylin made it harder than I thought; I still want from the bottom of my heart for Calden to be happy. He needs so many hugs)
Quite honestly I loved ALL the main characters and it’s truly rare when that happens especially with a FMC. All have strengths and weaknesses that make them so relatable and human. And I say that not just Cal, but Lias and Nori too, need so many hugs!
Calden has such a big heart and hates to hurt anyone. But because of his curse he stays at a distance. Yet he has a knack for twisting the rules and a rebellious flare fitting a young prince. Norielle has a hard time forgiving herself of her past mistakes. Causing her to become suspicious, doubtful, and unable to see how El-Alam or anyone else can see anything in her or why she was chosen for the Bind because of it. Elias has had a life of pain and so he keeps up a mask of a smile and plays the perfect role of a happy-go-lucky bard. He pushes the line towards trouble maker as far as possible while, in reality, he’s a stickler for following orders and rules and doesn’t want to disappoint anyone. Alani is just so fun. With little to no filter and a fiercely loyal streak you always know exactly where she stands on things. She’s the best sort of friend and fellow bind member to balance the others. And finally I can’t forget Ila. She’s just such a fantastic addition. A well done, fun, and scheming grandmotherly character is always appreciated.
Then the world and magic system. They were so well woven into the plot which was also full of very relevant Faith elements.
I could say more but I’ll just finish with this, Go read this book! It’s splendid!

Where do I begin?!
This book had me in a choke-hold. While it took be forever to get through, (which I can't explain why it took me that long to get through) by the second half, I was hooked!! (well, actually, I was hooked the entire time, it just REALLY started to pick up the pace!)
I loved all of the characters, and their relationships with each other! They all were so unique and different; they evened each other out perfectly!
I laughed, cried, jumped up and down, and also wanted to throw the book across the room. It was an emotional ride, that's for sure.
I will be recommending this to anyone who wants a clean, Christian, fantasy book.<3

I LOVED this book.
Amber absolutely does not disappoint with the unique world and the absolutely lovable characters. This book follows up an INCREDIBLY cool premise with an explosive ending full of twists, turns, surprises, and awesome character development. Calden and Elias in particular captured my heart right away. I’m not normally one for love triangles, but that’s usually because there’s always one guy who’s toxic - there’s always a “right answer.” NOT SO WITH THB!! Calden and Elias are both good-hearted and swoon-worthy, which makes for one of the best “love triangles” I’ve read to date.
And I have to talk about the ending. The. Ending. I read this before starting Where Darkness Cannot Follow and let me tell you. Amber does NOT miss with her endings. The entire last quarter of this book had me gasping, cheering, tearing up, and everything in between. THB is an absolute rollercoaster in the best way possible, and if you love fantasy with golden-hearted protagonists, a unique magic system, and characters that will capture your heart and have you begging for more, you need to read it!

What has no arms but still trapped me in a chokehold? These Hallowed Binds.
This is, in my opinion, peak YA fantasy. With high stakes, a twisty and delightfully engaging plot, characters you’ll fall in love with, and fascinating lore, what’s not to love? You absolutely do not want to miss out on this series.
There’s also a love triangle and while I don’t usually enjoy those, Daylin has converted me. I’m fully invested at this point. Team Elias for life thankyouverymuch.
Reread update: I think…I’m team Cal actually? Don’t get me wrong, Elias is legit my favourite character. But Cal and Nori 👀

I have NEVER cried while reading before until I hit the climax of this book. Enough said.
Just kidding! I have way more to say.
AM Daylin knocked it out of the park with this one. I LOVE her first book, Where Darkness Cannot Follow, and yet the beginning of this series is strongly vying for the top tier of my bookshelf. The writing is rich and immersive, the plot flows flawlessly, and the PLOT TWIST!! AHHH!!! 😱 (I never saw it coming and it just about knocked me off my chair.)
Then, there's the characters. *swoons* Seriously, I'm in love with these characters. I am wholeheartedly Team Calden, but there truly is no right answer. I genuinely love Elias just as much. 😍 Don't let the love triangle scare you away - this is the kind of love triangle that SHINES.
This book is PERFECT for fans of the Nightingale Trilogy and basically anyone who has a soul and loves to be swept along for a beautiful ride by a crazy talented author and some of the coolest characters ever.

HUM THIS BOOK WAS TOO GOOD HOW DARE IT ONLY BE 300ISH PAGES (jk, more books are coming soon, so I can't complain toooo much).
But Daylin had me hooked from the first book she wrote, and this new one did not disappoint. The characters in this epic saga have lived rent-free in my head ever-since, with their realistic and attaching struggles and quirks. I love them, I love the story, I love the themes, I love the setting, I--want to read more. Please. *Throws a reader's tantrum which consists into wanting to binge-reread the book over and over again until I have every line memorized*
Okay, have a nice day. And read this book.

Alright, this was pretty cool. I was hesitant because of the magic, but that system is actually really cool and nothing weird. They draw the accent language of El-Alam, which uses energy to create what word they drew... That's pretty cool! On to a breakdown of the book...
Characters:
Norielle was a sweet character... not patient at all.🤣 But sweet...I felt bad for her will all that had happened and does happen in this book...poor thing.
Calden was just as awesome as I thought he would be! I love how kind and caring he is while also being strong.
Elias was fun in some parts and in others I was a bit annoyed with him, but since I've read a lot about him on the author's IG I think I'll like him more in book 2...I just have some qualms with how he acts around Norielle.
Alani was so sweet and bubbly, and I loved her! She's awesome!
Romance:
There's a love triangle, but one point of the triangle feels toxic, so the out should be an easy answer to me.🤣 I've watched too many siblings try to make things work to falk for this, though I'm not sure it'll turn out the way I think it should.
Calden genuinely cares about Nori, and she seems to really like him until an old friend comes on the scene whom her dad wanted her to marry when she was younger, as in like 10 or 12... then she was torn and questioning.
1. She likes Cal
2. She's only considering the other guy out of what seems to be fond memories and a sense of obligation to her dead father... a very unhealthy start.
So, anyway...I'm all for Calden over here.🤣
Language:
D word is used once in reference to down under... It's not my favorite thing. It could have just been doom.
Magic:
As mentioned above, they have to write or draw the symbol from the ancient language and then use it... It's cool, willing to answer questions in the comments.
Violence/Gore:
Near drowning, scratches, gashes, stitches, poison, agony, etc...common fantasy violence, not gory.
Overall:
I got a bit confused with the whole Guardian thing...interested to see how that goes as I'm a pk who's listened to a few too many unusual podcast episodes with my dad.🤣
This seems like a good start to the series, and I'm definitely interested to see what happens next!

Sometimes I hear about a story, and I just know it’s something I’ll enjoy. Such was the case with These Hallowed Binds by A.M. Daylin. I read it in two sittings, and it was everything I hoped for. These Hallowed Binds is book one in The Empyreal Guardian Saga. It is an epic fantasy with Christian themes subtly woven in. I absolutely adored this book, the characters, A.M. Daylin's voice as a writer. It is written in present tense, which is normally difficult for me to engage with. Not so with Amber’s books. The main female protagonist, Norielle, is a delightful blend of tenacity, femininity, kindheartedness and courage (though she thinks herself a coward). I appreciated her portrayal, found it balanced and well-developed, and I cannot wait to continue her story. The main male character, Calden, is exactly the sort of man I love to read about. He is a protective leader, flawed, but compassionate and kind. And he has an absolutely entertaining broship with Elias, another main character. They banter and argue a lot, but I can see the way these two are absolutely critical for each other, and I'm beyond excited to see that develop further. I loved the little hints at Elias’ true nature, though we only see him through Nori and Calden’s perspectives in this book. The dynamics between the characters felt realistic and relatable. I enjoyed them entirely.
With superb pacing, well-balanced action and dialogue, and vivid, though not overdone, descriptions of the world, this story is a true gem.

These Hallowed Binds is an exciting, must-read, page turner with an immensely interesting plot, characters you root for, and important themes that are often missing from a lot of today's literature.
The world-building is excellent. New concepts are introduced in a way that is easy to understand without info dumping on the reader, and the writing makes it easy to follow the story.
You'll want to buckle up, because the plot doesn't gently pull you along, it YANKS you (in a very pleasant manner), and you just HAVE to keep reading to find out what happens next.
The characters are all so lovable. Not a single one was flat or boring. They were well-written with their own backstories and motives, and I genuinely loved following along with each one. It was interesting reading how their pasts and flaws affected who they are and how they approached various situations. I can't wait to continue reading their stories! Book two can't come soon enough!

truly loved reading These Hallowed Binds. As a YA fantasy adventure, I’d give this one a solid 5/5 stars.
The heroine was sweet and brave but lacked the abrasive self-sufficiency that’s sold as strength these days in much of YA.
The magic system was intriguing and unique while still holding familiar elements. The world-building transports us perfectly into a self-destructing world full of unique creature and sentient lakes. But it isn’t so dense that we get lost in it.
The romance was slow-burn and building, but doesn’t overshadow the platonic relationships in the story.
That’s right. We’re here for the broship, and the growing relationship between Calden and Elias promises much heart-rending to come.
In short, this was the perfect adventurous YA. It packed all the action, magic, and romance I wanted (but without all the drama) and reminded me why I first fell in love with the genre. It’s just the type of story I’m excited to share with my daughter one day.

GO. READ. THIS. BOOK. The worldbuilding is exquisite, the characters are beautiful (Cal and Elias and their friendship are SO wonderful), and the magic system is SO. COOL. Amber is a wonderfully talented writer and I feel honored to have read this book early. I CANNOT WAIT FOR IT TO HIT THE SHELVES!!

In These Hallowed Binds, we’re introduced to a world seemingly abandoned by those entrusted with its protection, and a cast of characters determined to take up the responsibility of guardians in the interim. This is the beginning of what promises to be a stellar series, balancing extensive world building with well thought out character development to lay the groundwork for the rest of the series. While there’s the first hints of romance, the book concludes with space for things to develop naturally (something this fan of slow-burn really appreciated). Action abounds, which an interesting twist from the magic system that’s integrated into the storyline.
There’s also a love triangle, which I ordinarily wouldn’t cheer for… but in this case it’s merely a question of which person is MORE right, rather than an obvious choice. I obviously have my own preferences, but the author is handling things so well that I think I trust her no matter how things end.

The relationships between everyone feel so real and electric. Elias is hands-down my favorite (sorry, Calden!), and I’m beyond thrilled that book two is already out so I can jump right back in.

Determined to prove her witness to a disbelieving town, Norielle braves the sentient lake again, and it drags her to the bottom. Calden, the Sovereign Prince of the Wardens, rescues her.
As next in line in the now underground society, Calden is responsible for stopping the world's impending doom. After saving Norielle, he informs her that the Creator has chosen her to join the Wardens and help him on his seemingly impossible quest. He leads her toward the Warden's hidden citadel to discover her specific purpose beside him and the other members of his Bind.
But despite the danger from pursuing Hunters, Warden defectors, and cursed beasts, Calden knows that the greatest threat to Norielle on their journey is the one thing he can't protect her from-his curse.

This book. THIS. BOOK.
The heart behind These Hallowed Binds is so beautiful and, to me personally as a Christian writer, inspiring. I was in love with the story long before I got my hands on it, just from hearing the wonderful author (who I am lucky to call my friend) talk about the journey it’s brought her on, and everything God’s done with it in her during that time.
There is so much that I deeply love about this book, and so many things I want to share to convince as many people as possible to read it!
We’ll start with the smaller things. I loved the author’s writing style; Amber has a unique voice, and the prose and descriptions she used were delightful to read. The world building was one of my favorite aspects of this story. I could picture the towns and tunnels and fields and the Warden citadel so clearly, and while reading truly felt like I had been transported into the world Amber has created. Beyond the gorgeous landscapes, I cannot talk about the world of Silvirdia without mentioning its magic system. As writer myself I understand how difficult it can be to create a magic system that doesn’t feel like the ones in every other YA fantasy book. I have so much respect for Amber after reading this because she managed to do just that: create a fantastic and unique magic system! I was enthralled by the Wardens and how they used and created their wards (essentially their spells), and I cannot wait to get to see this explored further throughout the rest of the series. The faith aspects in These Hallowed Binds were hidden treasures and added so much depth to the story. I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll just say that the entire ending (chapters 25-35) had me in tears multiple times, it was that powerful (and I RARELY cry reading books!).
Now let’s talk about the characters. I came into this book feeling like I already knew the main trio, Norielle, Calden, and Elias, after hearing the author talk about and hype them up for the past couple of months. Knowing some things about this trio beforehand made getting to actually meet them and see how their strengths and weaknesses were played out during the course of the story so fun. I truly could write pages about how much I loved all of the characters, but for now I’ll keep it short; Nori was gentle and feminine, but also tough. I loved watching her battle with guilt and shame, and seeing how the gaslighting she’s experienced from her village and family impacted the way she views herself and interacts with those around her. I also loved the way that Norielle and her family interacted, especially Nori and her two younger siblings. I came into this book with decided bias against Calden, the MMC (#TeamElias)…and he almost instantly managed to break down any resentment or dislike I had toward him. I very quickly fell in love with his noble character. Strong, gentle, protective, reliable, GOOD men in fiction always win my respect, and those words make up a lot of who Calden is. What I loved just as much as all of this boy’s green flags, and what gave his character depth, were his internal fears and character flaws. His position as a leader makes him afraid to bring people close, and he often puts burdens on himself that he refuses to share with others. He struggles with the fear of being fully accepted (*cough* by Nori *glare*) due to his dangerous curse, and watching him put up walls and trying to figure things out without leaning on his friends hurt my heart. But enough about the enemy, let’s talk Elias. MY. BOY. The second he appeared I was giggling and kicking my feet, and he did not stop making me crack up throughout the whole book. His childhood and past is utterly heartbreaking, and seeing through Nori’s eyes how it’s impacted him years later was even more so. I loved his moments of vulnerability, where he allowed glimpses into his more tender side. The side of him that cares for those around him, the side of him that hurts from his past, and the side of him that has a very special place in his heart for Nori (yes I have proudly made this a pro-Elias propaganda post, you’re welcome).
A large part of Amber’s heart in her writing is to portray healthy romantic relationships between her characters, and that is something I deeply appreciated about this book. Love triangles, and YA romance in general, are often toxic and unhealthy, and it was extremely refreshing to have a completely different dynamic in this book.
This story was truly a joy to read. I’ve recently been on a desperate search for a book that can give me some good fantasy vibes, and These Hallowed Binds did not disappoint! If you want to read about magic, high stakes adventures, and swoony love interests, then this is a book you do not want to miss out on! 💜

How on earth am I supposed to wait for book two?!?!?
As soon as I started see the reels and posts that A.M. Daylin was making promoting this book, I clicked preorder and firmly joined team Elias (which I am now even more dedicated to after reading the book).
As I was reading, I was swept into a story with beautiful world building, a creative and unique magic system and complex characters that have my whole heart. I really liked Calden and Nori, but Eli’s has my whole heart. (I must be a sucker for the broody bard type 🙃 *looks at Cass from The Nightingale Trilogy*).
This is a very special book that gives off the same vibes as The Nightingale Trilogy and Lord of the Rings. I am sooo excited to continue reading this series as they release! 1000/10 recommend!!!!!!

This was an absolute joy to read!! I'm generally not much of a love triangle person—too many books focused on them when I was a kid. But in this case it was actually super well written, and I found myself rooting for both options!!
Other than that, I loved the world building, and characters, and the PLOT TWISTS!!! I called one of the smaller ones but the big one was an absolute masterpiece, and I'm so excited for the next one!! Ten out of ten, will recommend!!

Arg, isn't it the worst when you're totally into a story and then....the next book hasn't been published?
Right...that's where I am at this moment.
This was great. I never thought I'd say this but I enjoyed the love triangle setup, absolutely LOVED the sort of secret identity character since I'ma total sucker for that trope. The world building is superp. And the banter and interactions between the two possible love interests was very enjoyable.
I actually recently attempted a dive into Cassandra Clare's series but was thoroughly disappointed; this book basically has everything I did like about Cassandra Clare's book, and lacks all the stuff I hated.
The ending of the book was over a bit quickly for me and I would've loved to see the MC digest the big information a bit more before the last page slapped me in the face, but other than that, there's nothing to complain and I can't wait to read the next instalment. Everything you'd want in a romantically themed YA (clean) epic fantasy story.

This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and I am so happy to say that it even exceeded my expectations! I adored the world-building, the writing, the characters, the messages... all of it. It's definitely one of my top reads of the year! The author did a fantastic job at weaving in Biblical themes in a fresh, engaging way. Also... I usually hate love triangles, but the one in this book is so, so well done and I am very excited to see where it goes. XD
Now I'm off to somehow entertain myself while waiting for the next one... please send patience. XD

With an interesting cast of characters, great world-building, and a journey wrought with dangers, These Hallowed Binds is a fun fantasy adventure leaving the reader anticipating the next book in the series!
There’s something special about this story; it drew me in right away and didn’t let go. I’m so glad to have read it—I only wish I had found it sooner! An exciting fantasy adventure I would recommend for most teen and young adult readers. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author!

This book is phenomenal, period! Masterfully crafted, Daylin’s rich cast of characters pull you in from the first chapter. This was my second time reading the story—wanted a refresh of the plot before starting the sequel—and it was just as enjoyable as the first read through!

A lush, mysterious fantasy world, steeped in secrets and locked in a deadly curse; a strategically woven plot with slowly building tension and bursts of heart-stopping action; wounded and relatable characters seeking hope, destiny...and redemption.
What really captured my fancy in this story is the WORLD BUILDING! The magic system and lore are rich and complex without feeling contrived or confusing, and the wards and weapons are just straight up COOL. It's clear how much thought Daylin has put into crafting this world and I can't wait to learn more of its secrets and its fate!
The main trio are all likable, complex, and realistic. I related a lot to Calden's heavy load of responsibility, and to Norielle's self doubt. It took me a while to get a read on Elias's character, but he's really a sweetheart and I look forward to learning more about him!
This book has a lot to set up, being the first in a trilogy, so at times the pace moves a bit slow to accommodate explanations and lore. But these are interspersed with bursts of adventure and action, and learning the information through Norielle feels overall pretty natural.
I absolutely devoured the last 50 pages and I loved the way so many little details came together at the end. The cliffhanger has me eager for book 2!!
This is just a personal preference, but I find present tense very hard to read, so there were times I had trouble following the story or had to reread sections. That being said, it's entirely worth the effort.

I fell head over heels for the story from chapter 1, the characters are so real and Amber’s writing is superb, the world was beautiful with caves covered in crystals and magical glyphs for the magic system. The images were so vivid and the characters' conflict heartfelt.
I personally am not a big romance girlie and not a huge fan of love-triangles either, but THIS book had me swooning and hooked on every word, not once did it get annoying. Quite the opposite, I can't get enough of Calden's kind, cheval character or of Elias' sass (ESPECIALLY Elias), and Norielle the protagonist is deeply relatable and engaging, her arc is one I quickly resonated with.
1000% recommend!!! Can't wait for the sequels to this epic saga!!!

These Hallowed Binds pulled me out of a weeks-long reading slump. I’ll confess, I approached it a bit warily because of the love triangle—I’ve never been a fan of them. However, after months of watching my Bookstagram friends gush about the characters and story, I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did!
The characters were each so vivid and fleshed out; I loved seeing their individual struggles and their chemistry. Rather than frustrating me, the love triangle actually pulled me further into the story (and yes, I’m Team Elias). It felt believable, as if it were something that might plausibly occur in their situation. I also really liked that Nori didn’t let it consume her like I’ve seen in other YA books. I’m really excited to see where it goes and who ends up with who. I’m also particularly excited to see where Calden’s arc goes—I want to know what further impacts his “curse” will have.
I also loved the worldbuilding so much! It seemed impressively complex on the outside, but once you get into it, it’s easy to understand. My only complaint with the story is that I wish we could have gotten to see more of it. There were a few places where I found myself wishing for more details because I wanted to immerse myself further into the world.
Circling back to the characters again, I really enjoyed how this book explored the idea of callings through the cast, and what it looks like to respond when we’re called to do something. It was a good reminder to me of the importance of walking obediently—sometimes the Lord leads us on adventures we could never imagine!
I’m going to continue to follow this series closely (and reread this book soon). I’m so invested!

BRUH. THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING.
The plot is interesting but the characters were what really made this book for me. They are multifaceted and feel very real. I can tell we've only scratched the surface of each character's complexities, and the emotional damage that is sure to come has me begging for the next book.
The themes These Hollowed Binds tackles are equally exciting, such as worth, genuine forgiveness, and free will/personal responsibility in light of God's Sovereignty. I am so looking forward to how these themes develop throughout the series!
I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves unique magic systems, deep themes, complex characters, zero spice, and high stakes!

It was engaging from beginning to end. The character development was at a perfect pace. But yet, I can’t wait to learn more about the main characters. I have several sentences highlighted as good reminders for my life. So, the themes are there and solid. There was so much good action with a sprinkle of romance. Literally, the perfect book to start my new endeavor. I can’t wait for the next book of the series!!!

This is my favorite read this year! I love the writing. It felt as though every word was carefully thought out and perfectly chosen to create a story that completely drew me in. There wasn’t a word or phrase that felt awkward or out of place. Beyond the skill of the writing, the story was fantastic! I loved all of the characters and their distinct personalities and the world and story have a lot of depth and detail. I am greatly looking forward to continuing the story in the next book!

Well-developed world building, characters I rooted for the whole way, beautiful prose, fun dialogue. I loved this story! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a wholesome fantasy. The only question is though…am I Team Calden or Team Elias…? Hmm…;)

The world-building and character arcs in this were so much fun. I cannot wait for the next book. I am hooked and need to find out more. I enjoy the sweet attraction between the characters. They feel so real and the camaraderie feels genuine.
