Boy meets pretty girl at the diner where she works. He doesn’t make the best first impression and he goes back to apologize. But this boy isn’t just a regular Joe, he's Hollywood sensation Nick Grant. Except waitress Carolina Jones doesn’t recognize him. His charming smile wins her over, and they spend a few unforgettable days together.

Nick goes back to LA, and Carolina sets off on her quest to hike national parks. Their paths cross again, and it's like no time has passed, despite the reservations Carolina has about a serious relationship with Nick. It's not like she has a right to be upset that he kept his fame from her when she has pretty big secrets from her past that she's fiercely guarding.

There was a lot to like about this one. Although it was wordy with a lot of telling, and I wasn’t thrilled to learn about either of them being with other people while this whole thing between them was developing, I loved these two characters and could relate to several aspects of them. Carolina was admirable in her strength and independence, and Nick was endearing with a backstory meant to tug on the heartstrings.

While this is somewhere between a 3.5 and 4 star read for me and I wish the characters’ growth was more apparent, it has an overabundance of steam, and I applaud this storyteller for dipping her toe into the very crowded world of contemporary romance. If you love finding new authors and watching them grow in their craft, this diamond in the rough is a good bet. I can’t wait to watch her shine more and more brilliantly with each new offering.

The premise is compelling, and the author does a decent job of exploring the emotional and psychological toll of celebrity status. The characters are relatable in their struggles with identity and relationships, and the book touches on important themes of personal growth and self-discovery.

However, it sometimes feels predictable and lacks the depth needed to fully engage the reader. The pacing can be uneven at times, with certain plot points feeling really slow.

Additionally, while the exploration of fame and its consequences is well-intentioned, the narrative occasionally slips into clichés, making some of the emotional beats feel less impactful.

Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review !

Beyond The Spotlight is a reverse age gap love story between Carolina and Nicholas. She's a single mom of two college aged kids and he's an actor around their age. They have an insta lust connection but he wants more. She keeps telling him that they are not gonna talk about their past, just the future. When she goes to California, they run into each other and she is mad he didn't tell her he was an actor but she's keeping her own secrets and told him not to talk about the past. Several months later they run into each other again and their love is still there. She realizes he means everything he said and she's done running. Will he accept all of her secrets and past? Will their relationship last?

I really enjoyed this read, it was a fast paced, page turner. There was great chemistry between the female and male main characters. The banter between both was enjoyable; you got both lighthearted and serious conversations between the two.

This was a story about love, trust and healing. How someone with fame attempts to find authentic connections rather than someone around him because of who he is and what he may offer them.

🖤 Fast burn
🖤 Open door spice
🖤 Reverse age gap
🖤 Single mom
🖤 Celebrity and ordinary person

If you like contemporary romance with some spice I highly recommend this read. I want to thank the author for reaching out and allowing me to advance read.

Everyone has a past but should it prevent us from having a future?

Carolina just wants to live her life quietly in Kauai.
Nicholas wants to live his life despite being in the spotlight.

As their worlds collide, can the two figure out how to get what they want despite their age difference?

This was a steamy, cute age gap story that showed how far you can go if you take a leap of faith and open your heart despite your fears. Remember to keep an open mind (and heart) when it comes to love - Your age and profession don’t stand a chance to chemistry!

Thank you to author, DG Keene, for the opportunity to read this book. I received an epub and am leaving my review voluntarily.

This book was SUCH a fun and spicy ride, packed with Hollywood vibes and set against a stunning Hawaii backdrop (and other places along the way)! I devoured it in a day because once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down.

This is an age-gap romance where the FMC, Carolina (39), falls for the MMC, Nicholas (23), a Hollywood celebrity vacationing in Hawaii. What starts as a carefree fling quickly evolves into something deeper and more complicated, thanks to their age difference and messy pasts.

As someone close in age to Carolina, I was fully rooting for her (Get it, girl!!!). What really hooked me, though, was the underlying theme: it’s never too late to take chances and go after what makes you happy.

Now, let’s talk spice! Sheeeshhh! 🌶️🌶️🌶️ This is not a slow burn—it’s instant lust, and their chemistry is off the charts. Their relationship is very spicy, so if that’s your thing, you’re in for a good time!!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It was such a great debut for DG Keene, and I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

Review: Beyond the Spotlight by D.G. Keene @dgk.book.nook
Rating:🌟🌟🌟🌟
Pub date : Dec 15 , 2024

Blurb:
Carolina, a single mom living on a quiet Hawaiian island, has her life under control—until Nicholas, a famous young actor with a troubled past, enters her world. Their intense chemistry sparks a passionate romance, but both are haunted by secrets and scars. As their love grows, they must face their painful pasts and decide whether they’re brave enough to open their hearts to a love that could change everything—or if their fears will tear them apart.

My Thoughts:
"Beyond the Spotlight" by D.G. Keene is a blazing hot contemporary romance that will leave you breathless. Packed with passion, redemption, and second chances, this unforgettable debut is as heartwarming as it is seductive.

From the very first chapter, I was pulled into Carolina and Nicholas's world—a world teeming with undeniable chemistry, emotional tension, and enough heat to set the pages on fire.

The romance between Carolina and Nicholas is nothing short of magnetic. Their encounters crackle with intensity, and the spicy scenes are so bold and creatively written that they’ll have your pulse racing. Just as I thought the story couldn’t get more captivating, the author threw in a twist that left me absolutely speechless. It hit me just as hard as it did Carolina, and I felt every ounce of her confusion, heartbreak, and hope.

Keene doesn’t just deliver steamy romance—she crafts a deeply emotional narrative that peels back the layers of her characters’ dark pasts, making their journey toward love and redemption both raw and rewarding.

If you’re looking for a romance that’s as emotionally gripping as it is irresistibly hot, Beyond the Spotlight is the one to grab. D.G. Keene has set the bar high with this explosive debut, and I can’t recommend it enough to fans of passionate, character-driven love stories. This one’s going to stay with me for a long time!

Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, she deserves more godammit.

This review is late, hands up I know, BUT I have an explanation.
This book threw me into the deepest corner of Nicholas' heart that I had a hard time getting up again. I was dying. I was sobbing, squealing.

This book can't bescribed with words only, but one word sums it up well; Perfection.

This book took my entire heart and hugged, tugging it in a warm embrace. I loved everything about it.

Nicholas' is not just a young, dumb actor. He's one of the most mature, handsome and thoughtful guys I have ever read about. His words hit me like no other, and he has so much love to give, yet nothing to himself. Nothing is left for him to put in his heart.
That's where Carolina comes in. She's smart, beautiful, mature and she makes him forget one spiteful thing he hates about himself; his need to drink.

They complete each other in the most gorgeous way, I love it. But love doesn't come with no struggle, especially not when the age gap suddenly seems to fill in more than it needs.
When the past caught up to each of them, throwing them off balance, who'll take the other's hand?

Who'll fight?

Who'll love?

I give this book five stars, not just because he's hot and she's smart. No, I give it five stars because even though it's hot or might be another romance, this book touched me. Nicholas' endless love, his fight. Carolina's worry and indifinite warmth, her struggle. Everything blends in so beautifully. Every reaction of mine was so genuine (i'm always genuine btw), I was shocked myself. I was so angry, so sad, so... everything.

Thank you so much for letting me reading this amazing book. I love you, and I love this book.

Beyond the Spotlight by D.G. Keene is a sizzling, heart-tugging romance that will keep readers hooked from start to finish. Carolina is a strong, independent woman who raised her sons alone after her ex-husband’s illegal activities and betrayals ruined their marriage. She hides her painful secrets, which included being accused of being an accomplice in her husband’s fraud scandal and a restraining order for dating a guy who was a month shy of his 18th birthday—from everyone in her life.

Enter Nicholas, a young, popular movie star who has mastered the art of using arranged relationships for publicity and keeping his distance from any real personal connections. Despite his fame, his life is marked by loneliness and a fear of true intimacy. When Carolina and Nicholas meet, the chemistry between them is undeniably scorching. Their connection is immediate, intense, and magnetic. Their love story takes many detours but each time they think they will never see each other again, the universe intervenes and they find themselves back in each others arms❤️

Keene expertly crafts a love story that is both tender and heartbreaking, with moments of steamy passion that will leave readers breathless. The chemistry between Carolina and Nicholas isn't just physical—it's raw, emotional, and deeply satisfying. The tension is palpable, and each encounter between the two feels like a battle between longing and fear, between love and secrecy.

When Carolina is forced to finally spill her secrets to Nicholas it is a turning point, and the way they navigate the challenges together will have readers cheering for their love. The emotional depth of the story will give readers all the feels—joy, heartbreak, and hope—all wrapped up in a second chance romance that proves the heart wants what it wants.

Beyond the Spotlight is a beautifully written story of love, trust, and the healing power of being open to the heart’s desires. Don’t miss this unforgettable read!

This is an incredible read that pulls you in from the very first page. It’s one of those books that feels so real, like you’re living right alongside the characters! It’s the perfect mix of heart, drama to keep you hooked. And the spice…🔥 From the very beginning, I was drawn into the main character’s world—a rollercoaster ride of ambition, self-discovery, and learning to navigate life in the spotlight.

The romance in this story is everything. It’s passionate, steamy and so well-written that it adds another layer to the characters without overshadowing the rest of the plot. The chemistry is off the charts, but what really makes it shine is how raw and emotional it feels. You’re not just rooting for the love story, you’re feeling it.

The writing is easy to get lost in—natural, emotional, and full of moments that make you stop and think.

Keene also does an amazing job balancing the glitz and drama of fame with the deeper, more personal struggles of staying true to yourself. It’s real, it’s relatable, and it’s impossible to put down. If you’re into spicy romances with depth and heart, this is your next must-read. I couldn’t put it down and devoured this in 1 day and didn’t want it to end.

Thank you so much to DG Keene for the opportunity to read this ARC.

This book. YALL!! THIS BOOK!!! I loved it. I’ve been needing a palate cleanser after a few books on the darker side of romance, and this one delivered everything I could’ve wanted or needed. I have never read a book by this author but the blurb of this one drew me in so I gave it a chance. And I’m so glad I did. The characters were so perfectly written. The banter was flawless. It was so funny in the beginning when they met, I was hooked from the start. I also love reading about a FMC who isn’t in her twenties because I’m 40 and it was so refreshing having a single mom same age articulate and grounded main lead to follow. I loved every single second of this story. I got so invested in the depth of the characters. I felt like it ended too soon!!! The spice was SO insanely well written I literally had a couple thigh clenching moments questioning reading it with others around. The plot was SO GOOD, it was an emotional journey for sure. I’m so happy this book came into my life. It was a no brainer 5 star read and a perfectly written book. Gotta go and look up anything else by this author, because I’m a huge fan!

The start of the book.... Carolina.. she is such a sweetheart who deserves the world.. She is strong, independent and an amazing mother who has been through hell but she spoke strong as rock.

One decision has turned her young girl, carefree life with kids and a lot more. She took a touch decision and now years later she is looking back and analysing it.

The way she said that in her earlier age she was so ignorant about the menopausal articles and now they are becoming the reality soon.

The way the author has written the points and highlighted how things changed and impacted Carolina was impressive.

Rating ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️❤️❤️

Her ex husband has filled her life with betrayl and hidden secrets and made her accomplice to many illegal activities about which she had no clues.

She thought of going to her parents but the thought of them saying "We told you" was dreading her.

Tropes

❤️ Celebrity Romance

Nicholas, a famous and gorgeous actor with a baggage that carries his own troubles and instances that made him what he is today.

Behind that shiny and amazing life, there was lonely and hurt young man.

The story was very well written. The emotions and the pain was so beautifully expressed.. I really loved the writing and the freshness of it.

I cried hard while reading so many instances. The way author has described their genuine fears and the way they were ready to face everything for their love, it was amazing. The passion, the love and the undeniable chemistry was visible in it.

I loved the story was beautifully knitted to create a cozy aura at the end. Everyone deserves a second chance at life and it takes all the guts to take a leap of faith.

The love has healing powers and it all needed a right person to deliver it and it was on point in this novel.

Carolina deserves the world which is filled with happiness and love with Nicholas.

I'm loving it ❤️❤️

✨ “Not everything that glitters is gold.” ✨
This is a must-read for anyone who’s ever been curious about the lives behind the fame. A raw, honest, and beautifully written story about chasing dreams—and finding yourself. If you love character-driven drama with heart, add this to your TBR now! 🖤

It is a compelling story about the highs and lows of chasing fame. It follows Nicholas, a young movie star, navigating the glitz and drama of the entertainment world, showing us that life in the spotlight isn’t always as glamorous as it seems. Along with Carolina, a single mother who sent her kids off to college and is on the path of discovering herself.

With a mix of ambition, heartbreak, and self-discovery, it’s a heartfelt tale about finding your true self amidst the chaos.

I enjoyed this book so much! It so refreshing to read something different; a reverse age gap, the main character being a movie star, it was wonderful that it was different from most books.

The characters were so lovable. I loved the mature personality of Nicholas and the loving warm character of Carolina. This book gave me all the feelings, swoon, frustration, love, sadness, joy, everything was so intense! And the spice was also really great! 🥵

It was a beautiful raw story about love, overcoming fears and choosing for yourself. I loved it!

I really enjoyed reading this book and the idea of an actor and “regular” person dating. I saw a movie that was the same celebrity dating type of vibe and it really reminded me of that. The beginning started out pretty slow for me because it just seemed like too much of the same thing going on, but once the characters were driven apart because of the age gap, I started to get really into it. I liked the plot and backstory that went into the story and overall it was a good read.

Beyond the Spotlight was a sweet contemporary romance. Nicholas and Carolina definitely have strong chemistry. The novel does have a lot of detail which makes it longer than it probably should have been and I really though the FMC could have been more open with Nicholas from the beginning versus wanting to hold back so much but clearly understand why she did. It’s a nice story about love and healing. A lot of learning to open up and trust each other to be able to heal together. It’s a good read.

What a lovely love story dealing with an age difference, stardom and a criminal past.
A dual narrative gives you both main characters perspective, following Carolina a late 30s, waitress and empty nest mother living on a remote Hawaiian island meets an up and coming early 20s actor but has no idea who he is, they have a whirlwind romance that gets turbulent.

This book follows a May-December romance. Carolina Jones lived in Hawaii. She worked as a waitress and was a little lonely now that her youngest son has moved out of the house. Both of her sons were in San Diego and she was just weeks away from joining them. Carolina could not resist when a gorgeous man came to her restaurant and showed interest in her. Living on a small island, Carolina had no idea that the gorgeous stranger was movie star, Nick Grant.

Both Nick and Carolina had things from their past that affected their future. They decided to spend the week together with no commitment to the future. These two could not get enough of each other. Soon feelings start to take hold. Both had secrets from their past that could come back and haunt them. Will this couple weather the storm of secrets revealed?

This book gives readers an in-depth look at the relationship between an older woman and a younger man. Age is not the only factor. Nick is famous, famous. Can a budding relationship withstand the media frenzy? I loved their relationship and connection. These two could not stand to be away from the other. So sweet! This book is not all sweet. Their attraction is off the charts and readers will feel their connection. This is the first book that I have read from the author. I will be reading more. Ms. Keene knows how to capture reader’s interest.

Short Review: What. A. Journey. From the beaches of Hawaii to the red-rock canyons of Arizona and everywhere in between, from fling, lust, love, heartbreak to the thrill of a happy ending--the author took me on a journey I never wanted to end. Throw in steamy sex in places ranging from dreamlike to questionable--and I was hooked from start to finish. If you're looking for a quick read that will immerse you in the world of Hollywood, the love-conflict nature of a reverse age-gap romance, the wonders of America and a full-range of emotional depth--look no further. Grab your copy of "Beyond The Spotlight." NOW!

Plot/Narrative:
The author kept the story simplistic and easy to follow along. The dual POV ensures the story moves at a steady, rapid pace while keeping me engaged to the MCs and side-characters. Tom, is one of the best supporting characters I've read recently. The issue of age-gap, complicated by histories and the problem of the present--the author has handled this elegantly, giving me a tour of how Carolina's thoughts and feelings evolved over time. How many times did I say out loud that I wanted to give the poor girl a tight hug!

I loved the way the story kept progressing towards clear milestones, making the turbulent journey of Nicholas and Carolina easy to visualize and place ourselves in the scenes as an observer. The author has described the locations, actions and the conflict/issue/scene being addressd very clearly.

I felt like I stepped into red-carpet areas, like a privileged observer, watching the tinsel and glitter of Hollywood throw a glamorous light on the story. Then the author takes me to the rugged wilderness and pure beauty of American landscapes. I'll admit I'm familiar with the National Park belt/loop of Northern California and Arizona, which let me relive those memories, with the added thrill of experiencing a romantic story in those settings. But for people unintroduced to the rugged, yet elegant beauty of this part of the earth, don't worry - the author will place you there. Heck I've never been to Hawaii, but now I want to visit Kauai and look for spots similar to the romantic ones described here (don't know if they were real spots!)

Characters:
Nicholas and Carolina's behavior, thoughts, dialogue, actions and reactions to situations and events as they occur are consistent from cover to cover. The characters are rooted in firm foundations, their motivations shaped by the past and present, and the struggles to find love amidst the challenges thrown at them, sometimes by each other! The development of the MCs was traceable, logical and also, as I expect: chaotic - romance isn't linear. People aren't numbers. I love MCs coming off unhinged, unpredictable at times - it made the story all the more real for me. The author has created beautifully strong characters in Nicholas and Carolina.

Side-note: I'm going to have a flash-back to this novel every time I pronounce Carolina the American way ;-)

Storyline: as a reader and writer who laps up age-gap like there's no tomorrow, I enjoyed the premise, development and the end to this whirlwind romance. The author has addressed the complicated nature of a reverse age-gap romance by unpacking the issues one-by-one and helps the reader see the actions, feel the feelings and experience thrill and angst a couple caught in this loop go through. Well done, DGK!!!

Spice:
Oh, what can I say about this! I lost count of the # of spicy scenes. I love how the author kept sex as a core theme of the story--she has done a BRILLIANT job of showing how sex shaped their relationship. Sometimes sex IS the relationship. At times it's the vent they need. Sometimes it's the envelope they need to reveal themselves to each other. Sometimes, it's their "food." Scenes are short, decribed just enough and every one of them had me giddy and filled with THAT cozy feeling IYKYK ;-)

Kudos to DGK for giving me a reverse age-gap romance to remember. Start to end, it was a movie I never wanted to get out of. In the end, you had me imagining Sunset Blvd and the beaches of Kauai--Nicholas and Carolina are probably there somewhere ;-)

For 39 year old single mother of two older boys, Carolina, and for haughty hot shot actor, Nicholas, navigating a world in which they can be together, without blowing up each other's lives, seems impossible. Can they find a love that can withstand Carolina's past and Nick's fame, and get their happily ever after?

First off, I want to preface this review by saying, about a fourth of the way into the book I realized it was probably not going to be the right fit for myself, personally. Although, I am glad I finished it to see how Nick and Carolina's story played out. Part one was a fast paced burn with a lot of spice that was pretty straightforward and lacked a lot of detail and depth (as was most of the spice in my opinion). The plot was a lot of filler instances and I wasn't sure where the actual love story was going to go. Carolina and Nick came from two completely different worlds so it was fun to see their flirtatious interactions and banter. I appreciated the reverse age gap the author went with, that most people seem to forget exists. Going into part 2 was more intriguing for me, getting to see the characters on their own. I usually have a harder time with dual POV but I was happy to be in the head of both of the main character's thoughts for this story. However I did feel they contradicted themselves at some points. The novel slowed down again for me shortly after part 3 but picked up again at the end, but it felt a little rushed with a lot left unsaid and some things involving Nick I was hoping to see resolved for him.

It was easy to become attached to Carolina and she was easier to relate to but it became harder to root for her after seeing how irrational she was at times. I wanted to literally yank her from the book and shake her, like girl, pull it together please. I was looking for more a little more sane communication from her as well as self growth and healthier decisions. (Potential very vague spoiler: After the whole thing with Kai, she did not bother to ask Nick how old he was, and then later down the line trying to be carefree by potentially hooking up with a man she met at a bar, hello stranger danger, BUT freaking out thinking she had Nicks's phone number wrong and she was texting a possible stranger her exact location? She had a lot going on.) I do applaud Carolina for rebuilding her life, despite her past decisions and circumstances, and raising her two sons by herself. The love she had for her boys, and them for their mom was cute to read. I am glad she got to reunite with them.

Nicholas was seriously head over heels for Carolina. I was invested to see if him being younger had anything to do with it, but the way he described his love for her melted my heart at times. He acted, in my opinion, a lot more mature than Carolina in certain situations, not to say he didn't have his own moments of questionable choices. I appreciated his background story in helping the reader understand him better.

Much of the characters time spent together was heavily focused on their physical relationship, age difference and own self-insecurities, but the snippets of them outside of the sheets and the vulnerability they shared with each other was cute and heartfelt. This was a true whirlwind of a story.

I am rooting for this author to continue to write, as this was a great story, and to strengthen her craft. I recommend reading this book if you are a fan of reverse age-gap, overcoming obstacles to be with the one you love, spice, and heartfelt moments.

✨️ What was meant to be one night, turned into a deep, passionate obsession ✨️

Blurb

Carolina thought she had her life figured out—balancing work, raising her kids alone, and keeping her heart locked away from the string of men who come and go like the waves on her small Hawaiian island. But when Nicholas, a famous young actor running from his own demons, steps into her world, the walls she’s carefully built begin to crumble.

Nicholas is magnetic and intense, with a charm that’s hard to resist and scars that fame can’t heal. Drawn to him yet haunted by her own secrets, Carolina finds herself entangled in a passionate love story that challenges everything she believed she wanted.

As their worlds collide, their undeniable chemistry sparks a love that is both thrilling and terrifying. But with hidden wounds and painful pasts lurking beneath the surface, will they have the courage to open their hearts to a love that could change everything? Or will their fears and mistakes tear them apart forever? Are they brave enough to rewrite their stories?

"Beyond the Spotlight" is an unforgettable new contemporary romance about love, redemption, the power of second chances, and the courage needed to leave the past behind.

My thoughts:

I was captivated from the start and finished the book within a couple of days.

I loved how Carolina and Nicholas met and the sass she gave him. He definitely did not expect it. Their chemistry was intense.

There is a lot of back and forth throughtout, mainly due to Carolina's insecurities and back story. However, both Nicholas and Carolina battle with their own past demons throughout whilst trying to enjoy the moment. Daniela did a great job of showing how in the process of falling in love they both found themselves along the way.

Carolina loved Nicholas for his true, authentic self, not for "Nick Grant".

Beyond the Spotlight takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, of laughter, sadness and happiness.

If you are a lover of:
▫️Open door spice
▫️Reverse age gap
▫️Second chance
▫️Celebrity and oridanary person
▫️Single mum
▫️Fast burn
then this book is for you.

Thank you to Daniela G Keene for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Beyond the Spotlight by Daniela G Keene

Beyond the Spotlight is an unforgettable, spicy romance that captivated me from the very first page. The story follows Nicholas, a rising Hollywood star struggling with the hollow nature of fame, and Carolina, a humble waitress in Kauai, Hawaii, who is completely unaware of Nicholas's celebrity status. Their unlikely connection sparks a passionate romance that takes them on an emotional rollercoaster of love, self-discovery, and courage.

What I loved most about this book was how well-written it is. The author effortlessly paints vivid pictures of both the glitzy world of Hollywood and the serene beauty of Kauai. The contrast between the two settings added layers to the characters' journey, highlighting how they each yearn for something more real and meaningful than what they have.

Nicholas is a compelling character, complex and vulnerable, grappling with the loneliness that fame brings. Carolina, on the other hand, is a refreshing and grounded character, offering him the chance to escape the pressure of his celebrity life. Their chemistry is off the charts, and the romance that blooms between them is both spicy and heartwarming. I was hooked by their connection and the way their relationship developed—it's the kind of love story you can’t help but root for.

The book expertly balances the tension between their growing love and the challenges they face, both internally and externally. The emotional depth is impressive, and as the characters confront their pasts and fears, the stakes feel incredibly real. It’s not just a love story, but also a journey of personal growth, trust, and the courage to be vulnerable.

Beyond the Spotlight is truly a standout read. It’s passionate, well-paced, and brimming with heart. I couldn’t put it down and found myself completely immersed in the world the author created. This book is perfect for fans of spicy romances with emotional depth, characters you can’t help but fall in love with, and an unforgettable journey of self-discovery.

If you’re looking for a romance that is as compelling as it is steamy, Beyond the Spotlight is a must-read!

Thank you, D.G. Keene, for the eARC of "Beyond the Spotlight" This fast-paced, spicy romance was an absolute page-turner, blending Hollywood glamor with heartfelt connections.

Carolina, a single mom in her late 30's, finds herself swept up in a sizzling romance with 23-year-old Nicholas, a movie star craving genuine relationships beyond his fame. The tropes—reverse age gap, celebrity meets ordinary person, single mom, fast burn, and open-door spice—shine brightly here. The Hawaiian backdrop and Hollywood settings elevate the story, adding an extra layer of escapism.

The chemistry between Carolina and Nicholas is magnetic, and their banter oscillates between playful and poignant, giving the narrative depth. Nicholas, despite being younger, feels emotionally grounded and mature, making him a standout character.

Carolina's character definitely elicited an emotional response from me... but that's the hallmark of a well written character (in my opinion). Her reasoning didn’t always align with her age and life experience, particularly her reluctance to share her past with Nicholas, which created tension. While Nicholas exuded maturity, Carolina's internal conflicts sometimes leaned into frustration rather than matching her age. But it's also understandable when she had to grow up very quickly as a teen mom. All of this showing us that the author truly fleshed out a full and complete character just learning to be her own woman and not just a single mom with all the required responsibilities. She's going to falter. It makes Carolina more authentic.

"Beyond the Spotlight" excels in delivering a tale of trust, love, and healing. If you enjoy contemporary romances with heartfelt character focus and a dash of Hollywood glamor, this is a must-read. I’m excited to see what D.G. Keene writes next!
