This is very much a primer and there's little information that people with knowledge of the space won't have heard before, but the images and whole feel of the book itself makes this a real joy to reas
I liked this one as a short and sweet primer on the history of psychadelics and attitudes towards them in the United States. It certainly doesn't cover everything in depth as it's meant to be an introduction, but it covers a wide variety of topics and hits the high points of what you need to know as someone curious about the subject matter. There were definitely some topics that piqued my interest for further reading, namely the MKUltra program from the '50's - 70's and some of the lesser known types of psychadelics that we don't have much research on. I'd like to learn more, but this was a great place to start. Interestingly, I found this in the gift shop at the Tate Modern in London. I truly believe that art museum gift shops are some of the best places to find reading material.
Accomplishes what it sets out to achieve: some general observations and citations of history and science of the subject matter. The variety of images (and the book’s color scheme) are its most satisfying features.
