Lindsay is 40 and single when tragedy strikes. Diagnosed with stage 4, Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer, her instinct is to right the wrongs in her life. Her unfortunate childhood with an alcoholic, verbally abusive mother drove her to break free in desperation at the age of 17. While working at a hotel along the beach on the East Coast, she met Harris Manning. He took her breath away, and she gave herself to him in love.
Though Harris never knew it, Lindsay found herself pregnant when he left her with no way to care for identical triplets on her own. When the triplets were five months old, she couldn’t afford to raise them alone as a teenager. An Amish couple adopted two daughters. Lindsay couldn’t bear to give all three away, so she kept Phoebe.
Lindsay worries that if she dies from cancer, Phoebe will be alone. She wants to break the closed adoption agreement with the adoptive couple so that Phoebe will learn about her sisters, and she will be able to connect with her adopted daughters.
How will the triplets feel once they learn the truth about their birth? What will be Harris’s reaction when he knows he’s a father to adult triplets?
As the youngest in the family growing up on a farm outside of Findlay, Ohio, Diane often acted out characters from her own stories in the backyard. In high school she was the student sitting in class with a novel hidden in front of her propped up textbook. Her passion for reading novels had to be put on hold during her college years at Ohio State University with working part-time on campus and being a full-time student. Before embarking on her writing career, she was a school teacher and play director.
Several non-fiction articles of Diane's have been published in Woman’s World Weekly, The Catholic Telegraph, Virtue, Down Syndrome Today, WritersWeekly.com, and several other publications. Her book, A CHRISTMAS GIFT, received 5 stars from the Midwest Book Review. Recently, Diane asked for her rights back for this heartwarming story and reissued it under the title, A GIFT FOREVER, and a new cover. She writes Amish fiction, contemporary romance, inspirational mainstream, chick-lit mystery, and non-fiction books. Her novels have received great reviews from readers and reviewers.
After watching the original movie, Cheaper by the Dozen, young Diane decided then and there, she someday wanted a large family. By the time she married Tom, the love of her life, she realized that maybe six children was a better number than twelve. She enjoys her life in southwestern Ohio with her husband, six children, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. Life is never boring with two daughters, Sara and Amanda, born with Down syndrome living at home. Diane’s husband of thirty-nine years is very supportive of her writing career, as well as her awesome children.
Of all the books I could have picked to be my first read for 2023 I’m so glad it was this one I chose. I found it to be a beautiful warm hearted emotional book. There is a lot of things happening in this story but it all came together so beautifully at the end. The Author Diane Craver blended into the story a lot of her own experiences she had gone through with the same type of cancer that main character Lindsay Prescott had. I thought the characters were warm and supportive of each other, well except for one of them. I appreciate that the Author is an Ohio writer because I enjoy supporting writers from my own State. I was quickly drawn into this amazing story and it held my attention to the last page. The Amish Mother’s Secret is a story about life’s changing situations, forgiveness and trusting God with your future. The way this book ended I’m thinking there may be more books in this series and I hope I’m right.
Readers of Amish Fiction, Christian Fiction , Contemporary Romance and fans of the Author will appreciate this book. I recommend it and it left me with a feeling of contentment after I read the last page.
I purchased my own copy so a review was not requested. I gave my honest opinion about the book in the comments I made here in this review.
Not until Lindsay Prescott is diagnosed with stage 4 cancer does she decide to break a years-old promise. She must tell her daughter the truth about her birth. And why her identical sisters were raised by Amish parents, Katie & Roman Yoder.
And learns why the triplet’s father never knew of their birth.
My review… My book review tagline is “… an honest review, always” and I’m being honest when I say I had a hard time liking this book. The description as given by the author and/or publisher gives too much away about the story. Fortunately, I had forgotten most of it when I started to read “The Amish Mother’s Secret”. I just remembered it was about a woman who couldn’t keep her triplets and was thankful an Amish couple was going to raise two of the three girls.
The book is a standalone and does have a HEA ending but getting there was this reviewer was not an enjoyable read. I know the book has had several 4 & 5-star reads. For me, it was a 2-star read receiving a 3-star review. And here is why…
-- Katie, the Amish mother, has no faith. She lives in fear and that fear exhibits meanness. She is cruel to Lindsey more than once. I did not like her from the first moment her character was introduced and didn’t buy her sudden change at the end. -- Roman, Katie’s husband, shows eventually how Katie’s mean streak is affecting him yet he remains his romantic self 99.9% of the time. It would have been much more believable if he hadn’t. -- Katie was much older than Lindsey when she got her promise. Fear is a powerful emotion and a big part of this story. But Katie’s fear is really never dealt with. I never got the feeling that Katie regretted any of her actions. -- Harris, the girls’ biological father, is just too good to be true. -- Repetition. Repetition. Repetition. The book has 261 pages and quite a bit is the same scene rehashed again. And again. If this had not been a NetGalley book, I would not have finished it. -- Little things. Like Harris seeing Lindsey for the first time in 20+ years and the author costumes him in a short-sleeved shirt. Harris is a surgeon and a very successful one. Professional men do not wear short-sleeved shirts for such occasions (if ever). They wear a long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
The positive aspect for this reviewer was Lindsey’s cancer treatment although I thought Harris should have INSISTED she gets a second opinion. Lindsey was diagnosed with stage 4, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. Turns out there was a very good reason why the author, Diane Craver, wrote this part so well. Make sure you read the section *after* the end.
So, no — I did not like the book even though other reviewers have. For me, it was a two-star read until I read “the rest of the story”.
I received a complimentary DRC (digital review copy) of “The Amish Mother’s Secret” via NetGalley from the publisher, Revell. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
The Amish Mother's Secret was absolutely heart wrenching. Author Diane Craver has beautifully written this story in such a way that makes the reader feel what Lindsay went through in the past as well as in her present. She doesn't sugar coat any of the feelings, pain, or frustrations that Lindsay has dealt with and is dealing with now. The story also lets the reader feel what the other characters who have also been affected by the past and present situations are feeling as they too must cope with everything. There is pain, joy and so much more as new revelations and situations continue to come up. Through it all are the messages of love, forgiveness, second chances, new beginnings, and trusting God's will, His plans for our lives, and His timing. It truly is a beautiful and moving story.
Diane Craver is a new author to me, and I really didn't know what to expect. However, after reading The Amish Mother's Secret I guarantee that I am looking forward to reading more of her works.
Book Quotes:
Roman shrugged. “Many times, I don’t have the answers, but I pray, and God helps me with everything.”
But God is good. He is my strength, and I leave nothing to chance and everything to God.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and strictly my own.
The Amish Mother’s Secret is a heartfelt and heartbreaking story. Diane Craver intertwined of the English and Amish in her books is beautifully penned once again in this extraordinary tale.
My emotions and heart went out to Lindsay Prescott for her present pain as well as the past along with her daughter, Phoebe. Phoebe desire to have a family gave way to more than she ever expected. Once the secret is revealed there is dashing hopes, anger, unexpected discoveries and so much more. The characters are all well developed with a range of personalities, emotions and levels of faith. There were plenty of exciting moments along with individuals releasing their concerns and pain to God. Harris thought gave him the strength to face the future when he knew, “God can bring joy and beauty out of of my mistakes when I release them to Him.”
Carver created another story filled with family, faith, healing, forgiveness, new beginnings and romance among several. There’s depth to this story that readers will discover while reading with the author sharing personal information at the end to make this one of the most heartfelt stories I’ve read. I look forward to the next book by Craver.
A mother's cancer illness leads her daughter to find family, a simplistic answer, but yes, the author has the mother diagnosed with lymphoma, and her daughter makes a startling discovery. I had a lot of mixed emotions as I read this book, trying to put myself in each mother's shoes, and I respect the Amish mother's point of view, and worry about her children leaving the faith, but I struggled with her attitude. There is a lot of forgiveness shown by a lot of the characters, and I loved the faith shown but most! Family does become the highlight here, and you will need to read to find out what happens with the triplets! This became a page turner for me, I needed answers! I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Vinspire, and was not required to give a positive review.
This was a nice romance read. It follows the English characters with only a sprinkling of the Amish characters. It has a sweet story. A few times I found the author repeating the story where it could have been left out. Then in the end large parts of what happened are left out and left to your imagination. Even with these few quirks it was an enjoyable read. #netgalley #ARCnetgalley
The Amish Mothers Secret by Diane Craver! This is such an amazing story and the characters are amazing I Loved this book and I highly recommend this book! I was given a compilatory copy and this is my own honest words!
The Amish Mother’s Secret is much deeper of a story than I expected. The elements of faith and unconditional love hold such importance in this heartbreaking and heartwarming story. And don’t miss the author’s personal info at the end!
I was quickly immersed into Lindsay and Phoebe’s lives and empathized with them and what they went through. Secrets are revealed and changes the trajectory of several lives.
I enjoyed this touching story and the various characters. Though I didn’t like some of them, I understood them, and wanted their faith to grow.
This is a touching and meaningful story centering on family, faith, and forgiveness. I love a story that keeps me turning pages, and characters who feel like friends. It pains me a bit to leave these new friends behind.
First Line: Lindsay Prescott sat in her hospital bed, knowing she couldn’t keep the truth from her daughter Phoebe any longer. Genre: Amish Romance Author: Diane Craver Page Count: 262
#CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions are 100% mine.
I so thoroughly enjoyed reading this Amish book by Diane Craver! The Amish Mother's Secret is a real page-turner story about forgiveness and self-acceptance. Also, this story has scriptures throughout the book. It's an eye-opener for anyone who reads it to not take life for granted and to be thankful for what you do have. I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author and I hope there will be more stories to share about the delightful characters from this book!
This is a book that ran the gamut of emotional highs and lows like a roller coaster ride. I felt so emotionally connected to the characters that I could feel the pain and the joy. It is a story of choices and how they affect our destiny and then God intervenes and shows mercy and grace and grants second chances to restore and bring beauty from the ashes. I found it felt so raw and real as Lindsay battles non-Hodgkin lymphoma as my dad battled that also as did the author. Therefore she penned from experience and her heart. A mother’s love runs deep whether through birth or adoption and both Lindsay and Katie are experiencing anxiety of what the consequences of a secret can create. You will not be disappointed in this story with depth and secrets revealed that brings healing. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
This was my first time reading one of Diane Craver’s books and I enjoyed it . The Amish Mother’s secret is about a young girl Lindsey who finds herself pregnant with triplets and no one to help her. Her summer fling Harris won’t answer her calls. Lindsey has a problem with her car and an Amish couple Roman and Katie help. She realizes she can’t raise three babies and decides to let this childless Amish couple adopt two of her babies. This story has love, heartache, secrets, forgiveness, healing and Faith. Loved this story and can’t wait for the next book.
The Amish Mothers Secret by Diane Craver I’m so glad I started out the year with this heart warming book by Diane Craver. The characters all have a wonderful faith based look at life which in my opinion draws you closer to their story. It’s a story of loss, pain and heartache but most of all it’s a story of love at its finest, A Mothers unconditional love, a girlfriends broken love, a child’s love for her parents and most of all a rekindled lost love. Diane Craver has crafted a realistic look at how devastation can turn into a life filled with love, family and many blessings. Lindsay Prescott story will remind you that true faith can and will pull you through the darkest of times and you will come out brighter, and better than you ever believed could be. I highly recommend this book and I’m hoping we see more of these characters in future books. Happy Reading
Lindsay Prescott meet Harris Manning at a hotel she was working in and fell in love with him. She came from a poor family with a alcoholic mother. Harris came from wealth. She became pregnant from him. He had to wed the women his parents chose for him. When she learned she was pregnant she went to his house to tell him and was told by his promised wife Harris did not want to see her. She married her high school boyfriend who did not care she was caring another man's child. He was killed in a car accident and Lindsey finds out she was having triplets. When Lindsay car breaks down in Amish country she meets Katie and Roman. Katie and Roman can not have any children so Lindsay makes a choice because she wants a better home for them that she can not give. This story was wonderful. The characters were fantastic. I see it having more to come in other books. I do not want to give the whole story away. It is a book that will make you cry and also show you the love that Lindsay had for her triplets.
Identical triplets separated at birth. Two different lifestyles. Two different mothers. One goal. When Lindsay Prescott finds out that she has stage 4 lymphoma cancer, she resolves to right a wrong in her life by telling her daughter Phoebe that is is a triplet and that her sisters were raised by an Amish family. The sisters are understandably hurt. They endeavor to make up for lost time by spending lots of time together. However, Katie, the Amish mother, is terrified that her daughters will leave the faith and turn *Englisch*. Can love and understand bridge the gap and bring two hurting families together?
Masterfully done story, Diane. They characters were well developed. You could just feel the pain and joy experienced. Now you need a sequel! :) I would love to hear what happens next among the characters.
THE AMISH MOTHER’S SECRET by Diane Craver is the well-crafted story of the connection between the Prescott and Yoder families and how long held secrets come to light when promises must be broken.
Lindsey Prescott was young, venerable and innocent when a summer romance had her believing of happily ever after. She gave her heart to a young man only to him abandon her for the woman his family had chosen for him. It wasn’t until later that she found out that their short romance had left her pregnant – with triplets. With a mother who’d turned into an alcoholic after the death of her father, she had no one to rely on but herself. A high school boyfriend, knowing she was pregnant, asked her to marry him and she did. Unfortunately, he died before the girl’s birth leaving her a young widow with three little girls.
It was by fate, when Lindsey met Katie and Roman Yoder, an Amish couple, one afternoon when her car broke down. Katie and Roman had been married a number of year and yet to be able to add little ones to their home. Finding out that Lindsey was in the family way not with one child, they offered their help and gave her the feeling of family and love that she had so longed for. It wasn’t until the three little girls were a few months old, with no real means of taking care of and support them and after hearing her neighbors whispering about kidnaping the babies to sell on the black market, that Lindsey packed up, leaving her apartment to never return and headed for the Yoder’s. After living with the Yoder’s for some time, seeing their desire for children and how well they had bonded to the girls, she asked if they would like to adopt Amy and Jenn. Katie’s only requirement was that it would be a closed adoption and that they would never tell the girls about the other one(s). Phoebe wouldn’t take a bottle from Katie that left Lindsey knowing that she just couldn’t give all her babies away. She figured she could support just the one giving herself a chance to love and raise at least one of her girls.
Lindsey was able to educate herself and eventually became a teacher. Lindsey and Phoebe have always had a very close relationship. It wasn’t until a stage 4 cancer diagnosis that Lindsey prayed about it and realized that the promise she had made to Katie and Roman all those years ago had to be broken. She needed to see her other two girls and she needed the girls to know they were triplets. She also needed to contact their father, Harris Manning – who she had never told was that he was a father, about his three daughters. But first she had to tell all of it to her daughter about her sisters, the man she thought was her father wasn’t and her father was very much alive but didn’t know about her either. Would it destroy the very close relationship they had always had when the truth comes out? She prayed not.
How will Katie and Roman feel about the secrets being exposed? Having always been firm that it was not an open adoption, she had reluctantly agreed to send a letter once a year on the girl’s birthday, but those had ended after the girl’s schooling ended after the 8th grade. Can Phoebe handle finding out about all the lies and secrets her mother has kept from her? Is she excited to find out she has a living father? Would he want to be part of her life? Did she want him to be? Can Lindsey find Harris after all these years? Will he be receptive or reject the idea that he has children? Will it affect his present situation? Can Lindsey’s desire to reunite her girls, have time with them and reunite them with their father take place before the cancer ends her life? Will the treatments put her in remission allowing her more time with the babies she loves so much?
THE AMISH MOTHER’S SECRET is a fabulous story that gives the reader insight into the situation and thoughts of both families – the Prescott’s who are English and the Yoder’s who are Amish. It’s a great story of love, sacrifice, forgiveness and embracing the truth. Your heart will go out to both Lindsey and Katie all while wondering how it must feel to find out you have other siblings and a father you never knew about. Your own emotions will be in play as you read this book. Loved the way Diane Craver laid it all out with several curves and detours while showing that through prayer and faith all things are possible. It was a FIVE STAR read for me!
Keeping secrets seems to come up at some time. We think we are doing the right thing when we hold a secret close to us. In this story a secret has a domino affect on many lives. I can’t begin to imagine what it was like for Lindsay to find herself pregnant with identical triplet girls. Being alone with no way to support them she makes a hard decision. This is a shock when her secret is found out by the daughter she kept. I had many questions I wanted to ask Lindsay. What I did do however was try to put myself in her shoes. With no judgment I understood that she was doing the best she knew by having two of the girls adopted. All these years she had lived with this secret until the day she had to tell the truth.
I was very surprised how Phoebe reacted when her mother told her about her other two sisters. This young woman gave her mother grace and knew that she had to support her mother as she was going through Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. What I appreciate is how the author gave us an insight into this illness with a personal account that inspired the story. Going through cancer treatment is difficult and I admire Lindsay and how important it was to her to have her daughter meet her family.
The parents who adopted Amy and Jenna are Amish. This is such a different culture than their sister. They have always been loved by their adopted families and have grown into sweet young women. When they both decide they want to be paramedics, their mother is not pleased. She believes that her daughters should get married and have families. The family does discuss this with understanding and I love how the decision made was respected by everyone.
It does look like everyone is doing well until the past starts to come up for both families. I think about Katie and Roman who adopted the girls and how much joy they brought to them. Will the girls find out that their parents have kept something from them? How will it affect everyone? One family has been on their own and now faces an illness that could shatter a bond. The other family has worked hard and grew up Amish. The girls are ready to branch out on their own. The emotions are felt deeply in this story and does have a few sensitive subjects that may be a trigger for some. The author handles these subjects with grace and delivers a realistic view of how abuse and alcoholism can affect a family.
What you will discover in this moving story is an illustration of forgiveness, reconciliation, grace and faith that continues to bring peace and unconditional love. I appreciate how each character is able to share their own prospective and trust that God will work everything out for good. Thank you to the author for sharing part of her own personal journey through cancer and how it affects many.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
The Amish Mother’s Secret by Diane Craver is an emotional story. Lindsay Prescott is a teacher and widow. Her daughter, Phoebe is attending Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!). Lindsay has been feeling unwell, but she ignored the symptoms. When Lindsay’s daughter finally persuades her to go to the doctor, she learns that she has stage 4, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The first treatment ends up making Lindsay ill and needing to be admitted to the hospital. Lindsay decides it is time to tell Phoebe the secret she has been carrying for over twenty years. Lindsay was seventeen when she became pregnant with triplets. She tries to reach Harris, the birth father, without success. Katie and Roman Yoder helped Lindsay when her car broke down one day. The couple have not had success in having children of their own. Lindsay allows the Yoder’s to adopt two of the triplets. Lindsay decides it is time to tell Phoebe the truth about her parentage and to reconnect with the daughter’s raised by the Yoder’s. I thought it was well-written with steady pacing. The characters are realistic and relatable. You can feel the character’s emotions. I felt for Lindsay who made a difficult choice. I could certainly understand why she would want to meet the daughters she was unable to raise. Phoebe, Amy, Jenna have mixed emotions (naturally). They are upset that their parents did not tell them the truth sooner, but the triplets are excited to be together. Harris Manning is excited to learn he has three daughters and happy to reconnect with Lindsay. I like Roman Yoder. He is a kind, caring man who loves his family. I was not a fan of Roman’s wife, Katie. I knew she loved her children and wanted them to be baptized in the Amish faith. I found some of her thoughts and behavior baffling. I wish the author had captured more of Columbus. I loved the references to Ohio State University. There is repetition of key details. I could certainly understand Jenna and Amy’s desire for more education. I cannot imagine grown women having to get permission from their parents and the bishop to get EMT training or get a GED. I enjoyed reading The Amish Mother’s Secret. It is a story about family, forgiveness, and faith. I look forward to reading more books by Diane Craver. The Amish Mother’s Secret is a touching tale with a dismaying diagnosis, longed for letters, a lost love, a surprising secret, an unhappy parent, and triplet delight.
Amish Fiction is my Favorite Genre of Books of all Genres. I was excited to read The Amish Mother's Secret by Diane Craver. It is Book 1 in the Adoption Series.
Lindsay Prescott has had a rough life, going back to her teen years and now at 40 years old has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. She grew up in an Alcoholic and verbally abusive Mom. She was 17 years old and working at a hotel on the East Coast and met Harris Manning. They had a Romantic Relationship, but Harris knew the relationship would not last. He was from a wealthy family and his parents had chosen a woman for him to marry. Lindsay soon found out that she was pregnant with Identical Triplets. She attempted to contact Harris to let him know about her pregnancy, but her calls were not forwarded to him. Lindsay made a brave decision when the Triplets were 5 months old. She connected with Kate and Roman Yoder and the couple adopted 2 of the 3 babies. Lindsay knew she couldn't raise all 3 of the babies on her own and Kate and Roman were unable to bear children. Lindsay raised Phoebe. Over the years Kate protected her adopted daughters from Lindsay seeing them. Harris eventually divorced the woman whom he married by his parent's choice. He also found out that his ex-wife had known that Lindsay was trying to let him know of her pregnancy. Lindsay now must admit to Harris that she gave 2 of his daughters up for adoption shortly after birth. Will Harris and Lindsay reunite? How will Phoebe and Harris react to the Truth of the 2 girls being given up for adoption?
WOW, this storyline was interesting and intriguing from the very first Chapter. I was really sad for Lindsay to have a cancer diagnosis and how she had so many struggles throughout life. She really made a brave decision to give her baby girls up for adoption, but it was sad that Kate Yoder was so mean to Lindsay over the years. Harris seemed to be a good thing for her at the age of 17 and then raising her daughter Phoebe from birth to adulthood was a joy for her. I admired Harris for wanting to be a part of his daughter's lives, only for him to find out 2 were adopted. The book is about LOVE, Forgiveness, Truth, and Family. I truly enjoyed the storyline and I am very much looking forward to future books in this Adoption series. WONDERFUL BOOK!
The Amish Mother’s Secret, written by author Diane Carver, is a contemporary Amish novel. This is a poignant tale that mingles Amish and English seamlessly. The result is an emotional story that will give you all of the feels. This is Book One in the author’s new Amish Adoption Series.
This is the tale of Lindsay Prescott. Her daughter, Phoebe, has always wanted a family. It has been difficult being raised as an only child of a single mother. However, her mother has a secret that will change Phoebe’s life. Once the secret is revealed it is an emotional roller coaster for the people involved. There will be hurt, anger, excitement, joy, anxiety, and so much more.
I enjoyed the author’s style of writing. It took only a few pages to become invested in this interesting story and its characters. The characters are all well developed and believable. They had a variety of personalities, emotions and range of faith. I appreciated the Christian message. It was heavily sprinkled throughout the book.
I recommend this story filled with faith, redemption, healing, forgiveness, family, new beginnings, and romance. Do not be concerned if you aren’t a fan of Amish fiction, because you will find so much more. The author reveals personal information after the story. It really tugged at my heartstrings. This would make for some great discussions in a book club. It will stay with you long after you finish it.
This gets a 4 out of 5 star rating from me. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit and NetGalley. These are my honest words.
The Amish Mother’s Secret is a sweet and heartfelt fiction novel about love and loss plus finding out who you really are. I love a good Amish fiction novel. But this one is slightly different as not all of our main characters are Amish and there is quite a bit more drama than you’d expect.
This wonderful book drew me in. I didn’t want to put it down. The characters were excellent and truly seemed to come to life in front of my eyes. The author did an amazing job with them. I loved how she used her own trials and experiences as inspiration for one of her characters. She definitely had the first-hand knowledge to make it work.
Triplets! Woah! I can’t even imagine. I’ve always wanted to have twins but I can’t imagine having triplets as a single mother. It can definitely make you understand why Lindsay adopted out two of them. But that the father never knew! And the adoptive couple didn’t want her to have anything to do with her two daughters.
You’ll love this wonderful inspirational novel. Please come back and tell me what you thought of it! Oh and beware. This is only book one of a three-part series! I can’t wait to see what comes next!
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK I always enjoy a good Amish read, this one I enjoyed very much. Being 40 years old and not married is unusual for an Amish girl, but this is Lindsay Prescott’s situation. Lindsay’s life is changed when she is diagnosed with stage 4, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer, and it is changed even more when she finds herself pregnant with a wealthy man’s triplets. A man who’s life is already planned by his highly wealthy family.
This is one of those heartwrenching stories that is difficult for me to read. Thinking about Lindsay’s sad diagnosis and her triplets and the life ahead she was facing, without the help of a husband, was difficult to read at times. I feel that Diane Craver did a fantastic job with this beautifully written story. Part of Lindsay’s difficult life was how she grew up, and now it is not any better now.
I like the characters for the most part, they deserve the Five Stars raiting I am giving. The special thing for me was finding out the author was diagnosis with this disease after she started writing the book. How unique is that. There is much more lurking around in this story that you will find out after reading this book.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
This story has a wide range of emotions in a novel, feelings of betrayal, second chances, forgiveness, and compassion just to name a few. It's easy to read. The story's intensity was heightened by the contrast between Amish and English lifestyles.
What a surprising narrative that will move you as the backstory and secrets are revealed, a new consciousness emerges. These characters and their situation will pull at your heartstrings.
I liked how the author weaves a complex adoption story & how they all kept it a secret. But when Lindsey becomes sick, and it looks like the end is near, she wants to unburden her mind of all the secrets she’s kept. She’d like to make things right as much as she can. Not everyone will be happy about her doing this, but time was running out. She had to tell the truth no matter the cost.

This was a new author to me and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I liked the premise (which is why I chose to read it) but I liked the characters to. The only thing that bothered me was how the author repeated things throughout the book, as though the reader needed to be reminded often of the characters feelings. Maybe a little more showing instead of telling would have fixed that issue. Otherwise, the story was delightful. I especially enjoyed Roman. He was a man who reminded me a lot of my husband: patient, loving, kind, with a lot of grace for those he loved. He was a great father to daughters and all their myriad of emotions (husband to his emotional wife too, I might add). I also loved how the author spoke about the incident between Harris and Lindsay, making it so that the reader could feel sympathy and grow to love Harris, something I wasn’t sure I could do at the beginning. Overall, great book and I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit but was not under any obligation to write a review. All opinions are strictly mine.
A gripping story right from the start. I didn’t want it to end but I wanted to know the ending. This could easily have a sequel and I’d like to know more of the character’s lives as time rolls along. Lindsay had some tough situations that called for hard decisions. I personally don’t think I could do what she did no matter how dire my circumstances. She was brave to do what she did. I did not take a shine to Katie, the other mother in the story. She seemed heartless and uncaring toward Lindsay. Katie wanted everything her way with no thought to the feelings of others. I could understand in a small way Katie’s feelings but Lindsay’s cancer and not knowing her outcome would seem to make Katie have a little more compassion. I’m still on the fence about heredity playing a part in career choices but it’s an interesting concept. This is a novel I would happily recommend to anyone. It has both Amish and English storylines that had me moving from chapter to chapter as fast as I could turn the pages. A good heartwarming tale of family and love. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review.
This touching tale deals with heartache and loss as well as restoration and hope. A widow learns she has cancer and wants to reunite with two of her triplets she gave to a childless Amish couple to adopt as infants. None of her identical girls know about the adoption, so this stirs up plenty of tension and trouble. The plot thickens when the biological father reenters the picture too. The characters and conflict come across as authentic with a compelling plot. However, I do not like to read about a divorced person dating and remarrying because the Bible teaches they are to remain single as long as the spouse is alive. Although this couple was not Amish, that is something I don’t expect to see in a book advertised as an Amish novel since they practice this biblical mandate. The book would have plenty to generate a lively discussion in a book club. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
The Amish Mother’s Secret is written by Diane Carver. This is book one in the Amish Adoption Series. Lindsay Prescott has kept a secret from her former partner, Harris Manning. She had triplets after Harris honored his parents and wed a woman he didn’t want to. She knew she couldn’t keep all the children and provide for them. Two of the children are adopted by an Amish couple, Katie and Roman Yoder.
Lindsay finds herself being diagnosed with stage 4, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer. She’s wants to wrong some of her wrong doings. She lets Harris know about the children and wants to find the two she gave up for adoption.
This book is about forgiveness, second chances and trusting God. The book is well written. The characters are relatable. I didn’t want the book to end.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
The Amish Mother’s Secret by Diane Craver is Amish Fiction. This book centers around a single mother who gave birth to identical triplet daughters. She allowed an Amish couple to adopt two daughters while she kept and raised one.
This story illustrates love, love lost, and the gift of second chances. I love the beautiful way a strong faith in God drives this story. I loved getting to know Lindsay, Harris, Roman, Seth, and the triplets. However, Katie, the adoptive Amish mother who refuses to let Lindsay be part of the girls’ lives,p illustrates fear and other negative feelings cloud her decisions.
Rather than spoiling the ending for you, read this book to see how things turn out for this family. I think you will appreciate it. So if you enjoy Amish Fiction, check it out for yourself. I recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
The Amish Mother's Secret is the first book from the Amish Adoption series and is, also, the first book I had the pleasure of reading by Diane Craver. It is a pretty good read. It is one that at times had me tearing up while others, I smiling with a warmed heart. I liked how it weaves in the power of forgiveness and faith. I thought it was such a beautiful story to spend the day with.
I am giving The Amish Mother's Secret five stars. I believe readers who love reading Amish romance will definitely want to give this one a read. I am interested in reading the next installment from the Amish Adoption series, An Unexpected Gift.
I received a digital copy of Diane Craver’s The Amish Mother's Secret from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
What an interesting story line from author Diane Craver. I just wish the blurb on the back didn’t give so much away. It really is a spoiler but do read the book. There are more surprises in store.
This is a touching story, in many ways when you consider all the characters have to deal with (no spoilers here). Lindsay and Harris were well written and I was rooting for Lindsay as she went through treatment, which the author personally knows about. And the triplets. Such fun young women who life through a wild curve at. I honestly did not like Katie Yoder. I found her manipulative and scheming. Roman put up with a lot from her. All in all a good read though.
If you enjoy Amish fiction that isn’t all light and fluffy but still has moments of fun, then do read The Amish Mother’s Secret.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
My review This book is a tear jerker. It has a lot of issues. It deals with adoption and the parents keeping it a secret and then the birth mother gets cancer and wants her daughter that she kept to know her sisters so she won’t be alone if she dies. This book is a good read but it brought up lots of issues for me. It deals with adoption(my 4 grandsons are adopted. A character dies in a car wreck( not part of the story( just part of the character’s past) but my son was killed in a hit and run so that was a trigger for me as I am still grieving the loss of him. My mother had a 7 year struggle with cancer before she died of cancer.
Even with all these triggers for me I enjoyed the story. It is really an inspiration tale of second chances and forgiveness.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
