This volume is great convoluted multiverse fun. It's the best epic storyline in the series so far. I think this one works better than My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Volume 1 and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Volume 2 because there isn't really a quest to obtain an object or anything. The alternate universe concept works wonderfully and offers a chance to see the opposites of every pony, with six big exceptions...

It starts with an awesome first issue. The artwork is fantastic, with very creative layouts. There are tons of jokes plus a few references to the 1960s Batman TV show. And a T-Rex with a cutie mark! Throughout the entire volume there are some fourth wall breaking moments ("You can't do that! This is a kids' comic!") that are perfectly in tune with the irreverent attitude of the series. It's fun to pick up on little details too, such as the fedora wearing pony from the first page that appears in the backgrounds in later issues but is never really explained.

The story continues on a high until the very end. The scenes jump back and forth between worlds and timelines but it always manages to remain coherent. It does help to be more familiar with the past history from the TV series, especially to keep track of when and why the alternate versions of Celestia and Luna are the way they are. I really enjoyed the strong themes and motifs that tied everything together. The usual themes of friendship and harmony are in place along with personal responsibility and desires conflicting with greater good and group needs.

The supplemental material after the last issue was also great. A two page splash clues the reader into why a certain group of alternate reality ponies never makes a proper appearance. The multiple versions of how Star Swirl got his hat are humorous and carry on the alternate reality theme of the main story.

Another strong volume in a strong series. In a world currently filled with serious and violent mainstream comics (superhero and otherwise) it's nice to have a series filled with good fun, good humor, and good merit.

I really enjoyed this entry in the MLP graphic novel series. I feel like I need to read it again to fully understand the flashes back and forth from the past to the present. However, I liked that it made Celestia a more believable and relatable character.

I enjoy reading these with my daughter, it is like getting extra episodes of the show that I missed out on. Most are geared toward slightly older children, so some of the more interesting and adventurous episodes like the season finales of the tv series. This was one of my favorite arcs. Themes: Forbidden love, loss, and sacrifice.
I love Celestia as a character and if I had my way I would create a prequel show: "My Little Pony: Celestia Chronicles."

This was a reread but my god I forgot how much I enjoyed this comic! Andy Price’s art is endlessly gorgeous I spent so long on each page just looking at all the background details. Absolutely one of the best stories to come from the series; love, tragedy, an alternate universe where the evil guys good and the good guys evil, they went off!

this book is so good

I love this book series! Graphic novels are fun, and all this art is amazing!

However, I have some advice for future readers. All the adventures are perfectly covered in the Kindle Unlimited! No need to buy the other FIMs that are not! You will be displeased as they are the same story, but split into multiple parts (books). It might be a scam.

Words can’t express how much I love this book. The art is absolutely brilliant, and the story like is amazing. Every time I remember it I need to reread it, and each time it seems better than the last. It invokes so much feeling and emotion, which sounds rather foolish since it’s a My Little Pony comic, but what can I say, good writing is good writing.
I rate this book an 11/10!

Probably the best IDW MLP comic out there. I have yet to be proved wrong. The story is great, the artwork is stunning and the fan service to some of the lesser known characters is 11/10. King Sombra gets a personality and it's amazing.

Lovely

I do so enjoy these alternate reality stories as well as the story giving time and attention to characters who were never very well developed on the show. This was so lovely to read

A very well done and beautifully sad my little pony adventure. I really liked the characters we meet in this one and the way the story was written.

Contrary to what we tend to believe, Princess Celestia isn't perfect. She made some poor decisions in her youth, and one of them is coming back to haunt her, and maybe all of Equestria. When she was just a student of the powerful unicorn Star Swirl, the pair discovered a magical mirror that could take them to an alternate universe. They found a paralel world where King Sombra is good, and wise, and handsome... and Celestia falls in love with him! Star Swirl warns her that too much travel between the worlds could have disasterous results, but Celestia disobeys him, time and again, to be with her love, Sombra. Unfortunately, Star Swirl was correct: Her universe-hopping has caused a rift, and Celestia's evil counterpart in the other world threatens to break through to Equestria. Can Twilight Sparkle and her friends close the rift with the elements of harmony? And will that mean Celestia and Sombra may never see each other again?
This is definitely one of the stronger "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" story arcs in recent memory. I loved the back story with Star Swirl and Celestia, as well as Twilight and company's problem solving skills trying to work out a solution. There are a lot of fun references, both to the pop culture and the MLP canon, and the art is really great, portraying the "good" and "evil" versions of each of the characters in a way that's not confusing.
All in all a very entertaining graphic novel!

HOW many fanfics out there have the plot of one of the Big Bads having a romantic relationship with one of the Princesses? And this volume does it with King Sombra.

And you know what?

It's GOOD.

Continued excellend from the Friendship is Magic comics. This takes the traditional comic storyline of mirror universe where all that is evil is good and vice versa, and in that it is somewhat cliche, but the cliche is freshened up by establishing a previous link and friendship between the worlds of Equestria and Mirror Equestria. Even more interesting, the background story is set right around the turn of Princess Luna into Nightmare Moon, adding in a story of grief and improper coping mechanisms, as Princess Celestia returns to the mirror world to see her sister happy and good.

I actually found myself liking Good King Sombra, and the ending was rather heartbreaking. But it does pose an interesting question: If the Sombra in the mirror world is now evil...does that mean Equestia proper's Sombra has turned...good?

Here's to hoping for a sequel!

4.5 stars.

Um, wow. That was actually really sad. Really, really surprisingly good.

Huh.

I have not read the other volumes, but I'll get down to reading them. Anything I might say might spoil the pretty creative plot of this book. It might be a bit simple and somehow cliched, but it fits with the characters and setting of Equestria, especially if you've ever watched the show.

The writers can definitely do much more risks than what they can do in the TV show, so I'd recommend this for pony fans who may have fallen out of love with the show, but still keep the ponies close to their hearts.

These are my guilty pleasures, they are amazing! I usually give these a 5, but for this one it's 4,5 because I didn't like the story as much as the others. But if you like comics, liked my little pony as a kid, if you like tv, book and all kind of geeky references and funny characters, pick this up! I love this new generation of My little pony, you might think it's cheesy and childish, but trust me, pick it up!

Volume 5 of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic is probably my favorite so far. It is basically My Little Pony's version of Mirror, Mirror from Star Trek. It contains evil versions of Celestia and Luna, and a good version of King Sombra. And unlike the cartoon, Sombra actually get's characterization. As always there are tons of little geeky references throughout the book.

Katie Cook and Andy Price do it again. This is by far my most favorite volume of comics. It also made me love Celestia even more. They showed her broken and flawed. The art was amazing and another amazing feat. I do hope that they revisit this world again.

Probably my favorite arc so far. Boy also loved this one, although not sure he appreciated how much it sucks to be Celestial and Sombra. Both of us want more about the alterna Mane Six criminal gang.

Princess Celestia told the mane 6 about an opposite world where alignments of the villains and heroes are reversed. The mane 6 must bring the power of friendship into the other world to help save King Somba (who is now good) from Evil Celestia and Luna.

as a neutral non-fan of the Ponies this was a bit tedious to read. But it's not a bad comic, I think you just have to be a younger kid or a fan to get fully into it.
