My name is Marney and I am immortal. I walk the night, hunting rogues and keeping humanity safe. I work alone. I prefer it that way. Anyone who gets close to me ends up dead. But when a hunt starts to go wrong I’m forced to accept help. And that help comes from a man whose smoky good looks and easy charm turn my world upside down. There’s only one problem. He’s a vampire. The sworn enemy of an immortal.
The Book of Prime is a 15000 word New Adult Paranormal Romance novelette.
Katy Baker was born in London to an English mother and an American father. She grew up a stone's throw from Hampstead Heath which remains one of her favourite places in the world. During her twenties she spent several years living in San Francisco where she developed an abiding love of bagels before returning to her beloved London. She lives in south London with her husband and a very grumpy bulldog.
Katy's books explore the intricacies of human relationships with plenty of spice thrown in. What would life be without a little spice?

A secret league of protectors in London and good looking stranger...ther is little doubt this is well written, fast paced, but violent vampire/urban paranormal story. Part of me really wanted to get into this, but there are currently six volumes of it and each of the stories is very short, and does not lead to a resolution, but on a cliff hanger....so Buffy as an endless telenovela...not my thing.
Shocked The first words out of my mouth on the last page was "wth?, the end?" I have to be honest , completely my fault . I did not look to see that this was only a few pages before beginning it. Otherwise I never would have read it. The story is really good and I went to get the next book, thinking okay , it's probably a 5 series at .99 each. Nope and now I will never know what happened
Do not, repeat, do not read this if you dislike cliffhangers. I hate them, usually do not read books that contain them. To add to that frustration, there is a lot of suggestions but not much clarification. I was angry about the cliffhanger and confused by the unanswered questions. I won't be reading the next installment.
I really enjoyed this story line. It seems prejudice and pride are very much alive in this world as in ours. I can understand her motivations as well as her fears and I look forward to the next book.👍
A good start to what sounds and reads like a series that will hold your attention and leaving you sighing and gasping in expectations what what's to come!
I just love novellas becuase it gives the reader the opportunity to sample an author's writing style and determine whether or not a book/series is the one for him or her. "The Book of Prime" allowed me the opportunity to peruse the storyline for a 'new adult" vampire series.
Marnay is an immortal chasing down a rogue vampire by the name of Hugh Montgomery. No, I do not know what type of immortal she is but she has been sent by the Council headed by her father to take him out. When she fails at her first attempt, the Synod or vampire council steps in along with Ciaran Conner, an Irish vampire to assist in killing Hugh. For the first time in a long time, something stirs within Marnay and it seems Ciaran feels the attraction as well.
When Marnay stumbles upon the RIduchi amulet, it is clear signal that the Church of the Prime or vampire cult is again rearing its ugly head. They must be defeated and in order to do so, Marnay and Ciaran will need to work together unless, her willful pride and need to act alone takes over.
While this was a little entertaining, it was so short that too many gaps were left in the read and I truly didn't get a good feel for the world building or the characters. I found the attraction between Marnay and Ciaran unbelievable because there was insufficient time to establish such a bound between these characters. While I am mildly curious as to what will happen next, I am unsure at this point if I will go on with the series.
I have only one problem with these kinds of series to short. I am okay with series but at least give people a full book. If you don't mind a book that is short. This book is for you. It's very well written. But right when you start getting into it it ends on a cliffhanger so you have to buy the next one. I'd rather pay five bucks or more to get a longer version. But it is a really good start of this series. So if you don't mind to keep paying to keep going this this is for you. You won't be disappointed.
The synopsis looked interesting but it was too short for me to really get a good impression of the story. This first book looks much more like a first part, an introduction to what is going to happen, thought I really liked the idea of the pearl and the temporary vulnerability of Immortals. I also think Katty Baker as a good pen. I will give a chance to the rest of the serie, but I'm not in a hurry.
