Justice for the Miller Brothers

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Miranda Chase is a brilliant defense attorney who works for an eminent law firm, with an awesome future ahead of her. Her brother is a cop, and the two are hiding a childhood secret that could destroy their lives.
A gruesome murder case makes the headlines when a wealthy businessman is brutally murdered in his home with an axe. Police are looking for the murderer, and when the man’s two, adult sons confess to the crime, Miranda knows that there is much more to the case than what the police claim as the motive. Miranda must traverse the complicated and delicate issues of the case, including parenteral abuse and financial gains for the brothers, as well as gaining the trust of the brothers to open up to her and gain their trust.
The plot of the story was well-developed and absorbing, with unpredictable twists intertwined to keep the reader turning pages. Although tragic on numerous points, the protagonist's determination and fervent dedication to the two brothers was astounding. The story’s pacing was engaging and steady, keeping the reader enthralled as the story progressed. The courtroom drama was masterfully portrayed, and the suspense and tension in the courtroom were equally displayed as the defense and prosecution presented their case. The quality of the story was plagued by poor editing and proofreading, which I have come to expect from this author's books, otherwise, I would have given it a five-star rating.

Miranda Chase is an attorney in a prestigious law firm. She and her brother share a tenuous relationship based on their childhoods. They suffer from what happened! It is not a pretty picture. A case comes forward that has Miranda questioning whether or not she should offer her services, even though the clients are not seeking representation. She feels a kinship to them.

Her brother is a policeman who talked about the case with her. Also, she heard about it from a real estate partner on a blind date. The problem, the father that was killed was a rich man who held influential favor over many. It was all a persona hiding what he truly was. The boys are up on murder charges, but she knows there is more to the story.

At the risk of baring her past, she decides to take on the case even though it may cost her a career she worked hard for. What will happen? What will come out? Can she control what happens in court? Another winner!

"Justice for the Miller Brothers" by Freya Atwood

My Insight:

'Justice for the Miller Brothers' was quite an engaging read, showcasing lawyer Miranda Chase's efforts in the Miller Brothers' case. The novel also delves into the haunting abuse that Miranda and her brother endured. In this criminal trial, the question arises: can Miranda clear the names of these brothers, Paul and Brian, who are accused of murdering their father?

To truly grasp how well Miranda navigated this complex case, readers must turn the pages, uncovering the author's thought process and experiencing how the narrative unfolds brilliantly.

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This is a new character in Freya's writing. The story introduces Miranda Chase who takes on a case defending the Miller brothers. They have confessed to killing their father. Miranda's reasoning for taking it against her boss's wishes is personal. Once Miranda sat down with the boys, it took her awhile to breakthrough their lack of talking. Once she accomplished this, she now had a plan to try and free them. The time for trial comes and the prosecution starts his case.

To discover what Miranda's reason was, what her dense was to be comprised of and how it all worked out in the end, then you need to read this book.

The storyline is worth 4÷ stars but the lack of adequate proofreading stole at least one star

The odd spelling of a common, one syllable name for one of the main characters was a constant irritation. The frequent, repeated misspellings of several words was also very annoying as were strange choices off words that made no sense. Most of the problems with book counts have been resolved by a good proofreader. However, there was one part of the resolution that was totally unbelievable

Again, So Close

I really like and want Ms. Atwood to live life as a successful author, she puts together a plausible storyline that she can flesh out with plots and twists. Now, the bummer for me is that I can't get around the jarring hit I get when Reading along and there is a typo, a misused word, a misspelled word, incorrect punctuation, a missing word, etc. Seriously, an editor and/or proofreader should cure those errors and others. Smoothing out this effort and making the story more concise would make for a much more enjoyable read.

interesting but plot doesent add up …

The whole book revolves around was a murder done for money- the murderer confesses - but what fool would murder provably and confess then expect to get that money? “The slayer rule prevents a murderer from retaining a property interest in their victim's estate. The slayer rule is found in trust and estates law and was designed to prevent people from committing murder to receive their inheritance .” What a waste if time ive seen this stupid plot in other nivels too….

Proofreading subpar- in under 45 pages, I gave up

The sound of another crash, this one closed to my bedroom.
I only made it to page 44 before I gave up. The line editing/ proofreading was so terrible, I had already identified, copied to my book notes at least six glaring errors.
I read to enjoy the story and usually this author ‘s work is extremely well written but alas the bloom is off on this book until revision anyway.
If you enjoy editing as you read and it doesn’t distract nor distract from enjoying the story then I am sure you’ll enjoy.

The stakes are high for Miranda in the case she is tying. She connects with the Mirand Miller brothers due to her traumatic background. As she digs into the case someone wants it buried and will stop at nothing to force her off the case. Will she be able to get her clients off and remain out of danger.

A high stakes criminal trial with a great storyline, very well written, and an outstanding cast of characters. Murder mystery where we know the killers, but not the outcome of the trial. A page turning read with plenty of susp3nse and a few twists. Very enjoyable read that I highly recommend.

Another great legal thriller

I love Freya Atwood’s writing! This was no exception! Very emotional courtroom testimony. Two brothers who murder their father because he abused them. But not as simple as that! A must read!

Great Story

Really liked this story of a young female lawyer, Miranda, defending two brothers who are accused of murdering their father. They state that they killed their father because of abuse—sexual abuse. Will they be convicted?

Needs an Editor

An enjoyable read, but the author is I’m desperate need of a proofreader/editor. However, the lack of good editing won’t put me off reading another of Freya’s books.

This is a book of secrets and what one would do to protect them. Would you go to this extreme or would you continue to let it fester? An excellent new series.
