Survival in a burned, desolate landscape becomes even more difficult. Rose and her surviving family must grapple with not only their recent losses, but the rapid onset of winter. Desi's group faces shifting loyalties while Derek and Liam struggle onward in ever-worsening weather in Dawn of Ruin Book 4.

A firestorm rages across North America, destroying everything in its path.

In its wake, a lone firefighter survives the conflagration - but his survival and journey home is anything but assured.

In a quiet suburb, a young boy finds himself to be the only survivor in a city full of the dead.

On the other side of the country, a family watches the devastation grow closer, though the flames are not the most dangerous threat they face...

***

Extreme drought conditions in the West cause wildfires to spring out of control, tearing East across the country, destroying everything in their path. Caught in the midst of this firestorm, Liam Hayward - a smokejumper - is the only survivor of his unit. Injured and on his own, Liam's journey home means crossing a burned, irradiated wasteland where death may be the easiest way out.

In the Midwest, Liam's family watches the devastation growing ever closer, but the real danger comes from those around them. Panic grips the populace as the first ashes and embers rain down from the sky, and fire becomes a secondary danger as their fellow man will stop at nothing to try and stay safe - even if it means taking the lives of innocents.

Endurance - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Can you believe it!?!! Stacey Upton and Mike Kraus's outstanding Dawn Of Ruin series has already reached Book 4, Endurance, with Book 5 hot on its heels at the start of 2025.
It's Day 15 of the apocalyptic fires and severe weather conditions that have killed millions and left desperate survivors fighting over dwindling food and other supplies and territory across the USA and beyond.
Great characters include actors Desi, Bunny and Adrian, travelling with siblings Laura and Jasper, whilst in Dakota, Rose must risk all to save her daughter from certain death.
You definitely won't want to miss any of the series, but be sure to read this unputdownable, epic survival-thriller, Endurance, today...
after all, you never know when the Dawn of Ruin will be upon us!

This continues a good series, though I still struggle with not having any science that would explain how a fire would decimate the entire US, North America and other countries. That aside, I do like the characters and definitely cheered for Lily who stoutly stood up for Derek against the rather rigid Dr Akemi Sulu. I'm surprised a bit by so many competing survivalist groups, but it does add to some drama. Adrian is interesting, though insufferable, because he does have some occasions of brilliance. I look forward to book 5.

Survival isn’t a simple thing. There’s danger everywhere and people are having a difficult time. Winter is approaching, how will the survivors manage to make it through the winter. Definitely binge ready. Well written as always by two amazing authors.

Dawn of ruin series

Engaging, certainly keeps my interest. Most characters believable. Prose in sensible without gushy emotion or moral lessons. Humor good, I often hear myself saying many of the phrases by characters.

Endurance Book 4

I don’t want this book to end really enjoying it. Poor Liam going from a fire jumper to practically nothing of a man. Thank goodness for his nephew
