A new way to succeed

I was a young female in the 1970s working in a male dominated world. I gave it my all. I worked “above and beyond”. There are more options now, I wish were available back then. I recommend this book to all the perpetual overachievers who believe working yourself half to death is the only way to succeed. This book offers alternate solutions, valuable insight, and strategies, to reclaim control of your time, energy, and life.

The work-life balance is just a dream for many workers, but learning to say “no” to extra work doesn’t have to be a death sentence. In Quiet Quit & Fully Live: Take Back Your Time, Energy, and Life Through Ethical Disengagement by Matthew Hess, achieving the coveted work-life balance is thoroughly explored.

Quiet quitting is a term that many people may not know. A quiet quitter is someone who holds firm to the boundaries he sets of what he will and will not do in his work or personal life. They know when to say “no” to someone asking them to take on more tasks than they should be doing. These people shouldn’t be considered lazy or not team players, but instead they should be seen as individuals who have clear goals and boundaries set for themselves and want a balanced life at work and home.
All people have unique stories and face unique challenges in their lives. That means that one person may have to adjust his quiet quit game plan a bit differently than another might need to, but nonetheless, once you set your goals and boundaries, you can start following the steps to achieving a work-life balance. As you’re sitting down planning what your new goals and boundaries will be, you must keep in mind that it is important to understand that successful quiet quitting should always include you continually performing the minimum job tasks that is required for your position, while always completing these tasks at a satisfactory level, as stated by Hess. If you are fully committed to achieving these necessary prerequisites, then you are properly prepared to plan your quiet quitting game plan.

A major issue for everyone is stress and all the negative consequences that it may cause. We all face stress somewhere in our lives, some even in multiple areas of their lives. Long term stress can lead not only to burnout, but also to many health issues down the road. Stress has such a negative impact on your brain, and you need to be aware of what your body is telling you. You need to act and prevent any future issues and by quiet quitting, you are on the road to helping yourself heal and making healthy adjustments to your work-life balance.

The author offers an abundant amount of suggestions and advice to help in your quiet quitting journey, advice that is helpful and interesting. He provides ideas that you can apply to all aspects of your life, no matter whether you are working or not. It's interesting to note that you can be retired and still incorporate these valuable techniques in your personal life. Quiet Quit and Fully Live is one book that all readers can adapt to their own lives no matter what stage of life they are currently experiencing.

Quill says: Quiet Quit & Fully Live: Take Back Your Time, Energy, and Life Through Ethical Disengagement is an excellent read for anyone considering an adjustment to their life to find a healthier work-life balance. It is highly recommended by this reviewer!

A book that touched my heart!

This book touched my heart because I have already lived this experience. When you lead a life of toil, full of work, without a minute of time to dedicate to yourself or your family, everything seems to be fine until something inside you explodes: stress.
This book touches on a current issue that can even be considered a public health problem and that is workaholism and stress. Allow yourself to read this text in order to prevent the endless difficulties that you can experience if you are allowing yourself to be a slave to stress.

I just finished reading this book. It's fantastic, I was thinking about it's all quite quitting all wrong. The author breaks down the whole “hustle harder” mindset with such clarity that I kept thinking, “Dang, why did no one tell me this sooner?” The tips on boundaries and saying “no” without spiraling into guilt were great, and the little neuroscience message was brilliant. I’ve already started using some of the exercises, and feel already less chaotic. Even though I still get sucked into the work drama here and there, it's the process. Five stars from me.

wow, there’s actually a name for this?

This was a great book, very interesting and informative. Burnout is a real thing and this book offers avenues to explore before getting to that point. I didn’t actually know there was a formal term for just doing your required amount of work. But in this pro-achievement environment, the alternative is making your own balance and peace of mind within your work life.

We only have so much time, and we waste potential time that we could be producing something useful and solving the problems of real people. Yes, there is suffering all over the world, but we do not have enough time to make real change for all of it. Therefore, we learn, that the inefficiency of busy work and care that only goes out in useless thoughts should be sacrificed so that we can do better things with our time.

A must read!

What an inspirational book!
I really learned so much from this read that will be part of my library and go to books. The part that I felt most personal to me, aside from the part about boundaries, was in chapter 6, particularly “Saying No”. This book has really made a difference for me and I highly recommend it.

A Good Short Read

The information in this book is very practical. It makes you aware of how important it is to have a work life balance. It teaches options. You will learn how to keep from burning out on your current job, and how to not to overwhelm yourself. It encourages you to find time for what matters most (family, friends, and YOU!)

Truly bold and courageous topic which is covered very well in this book. This is the first time I've heard about this topic so you can imagine how eye opener this was for me, and I've learnt a lot. Highly recommended.

Been feeling that whole burnt out but still functioning thing for a while, so this was a bit too relatable tbh. I liked that it’s more about boundaries and not getting swallowed by work than just “do less.” Some points repeat, but overall it felt pretty sensible
