Georgiana Germaine #9.5

Little Merry Murder

Rate this book
As Claire Cooperson sits by the fire, wrapping presents and putting them beneath the Christmas tree, she hears what sounds like glass shattering. The unwelcome noise startles her, and she jumps up, tiptoeing toward the back door. A chill brushes across her face, and as the outside wind howls, she wraps her arms around herself, pulling her sweater tighter.

Struggling to see in the darkness, Claire switches on the dining room light and finds the cause of the sound she heard. A glass panel in the center of the back door has shattered, spitting jagged shards all over the tile floor.

But what caused the glass to break?

And why does Claire have a sinking feeling—a feeling telling her she’s no longer alone?

Good quick murder mystery. One of the things I enjoy about the authors writing style, is that she always starts the book with from the POV of the victim, right before the murder happens.) Georgiana Germaine (the Protagonist) is asked by the prime suspects mother, to find the real culprit. She agrees on a trial basis (depending on her instincts after meeting the man in jail.) He doesn't give the best first impression, but the investigator is able to look past his not so good attitude. This is a novella, so it moves quickly, and doesn't get too deep into the character development or backstories. You get a good feel for the characters though. It's also NOT a mystery that is easy to solve by the reader. You may start to get a feeling once it gets close to the big reveal, but by then, it's too late. It's a easy book to read and follow. It is a clean read with no violence on the pages. There is mention of cheating, but no sexual content on the page. Other than that first chapter, it's taken entirely from Georgiana's POV. The events take place during the holiday season, and gifts are mentioned, but it's not what I would call a holiday story. (Just wanted to note that in case that's what you are looking for... don't want anyone disappointed.)

It's a good mystery to read when you don't have a lot of time as it packs a lot in the story. Georgiana looks into the case of a murdered woman when the mother of the husband comes begging for help. Digging into the marriage reveals things were not happy with the couple, but murder doesn't seem likely. So Georgiana must dig through Claire's life for more clues to who would want her dead. It is a fast-paced story that ends with another case solved for Georgiana and friends.

This novella is a great addition to the Georgianna Germaine series. It can be read as a stand-alone. Georgiana is requested to investigate the murder of a woman by the prime suspect’s mother. I am amazed by the amount of twists and turns the author has created in a novella form. It’s fast paced and thoroughly enjoyable.

Little Merry Murder

This Novella was an excellent read. Had all I like about Georgiana Germaine: her intuition, her dreams, her ability to 'connect the dots'. I've read this entire series, and enjoy each book.

I had fun trying to guess who did it before Georgiana. Of course, I failed. This is a quick read with all the things fans love about the series. Great characters and an intriguing mystery.
