It is very sweet that our little goat friend got to experience how other animals live. Nice little bedtime story showing how fun and curiosity and being scared all at the same time is something we all can experience.
This book is pure goat-tastic chaos in the best way possible. My daughter was absolutely HOOKED. We were giggling our way through Scout's adventures, especially the part where he... well, let's just say 'embraced' the local mud puddles. I mean, who hasn't been there? It's like Natalie Horseman peeked into our backyard! This book is a delightful, funny, and surprisingly sweet story about curiosity and finding your way home. Plus, it's a great excuse to let the kids get a little muddy (just kidding... mostly). If you need a book that'll get your little ones laughing and asking for 'more goat!', grab this one. You won't regret it!
My daughter is 2 and loves all animals. This story is the perfect book for our bedtime routine, as the story is fun and silly and the illustrations really capture my daughter’s attention. Highly recommend for young children and parents looking for that perfect book!
Scout goes on an amazing adventure on the farm. He finds lots of new animal friends and he tries to be like them. In the end, Scout learns it is best to be himself. This is a great story with wonderful illustrations an attention to detail.
This book takes us on an adventure with Scout the goat. His fun antics get him into some messy situations. Scout realizes that even though he loves adventure, he loves to be with his goat family too! It very cute with great illustrations!
This is 100% true. I know Scout. Scout is a real goat. He lives on the same farm my goats Brickey and Moppet are housed at. One of Brickey's oldest and best friends, my family and I have had our share of adventures with Scout. When Scout's mom, author Natalie Horseman recounts how Scout escapes from his pen one day for a glorious adventure exploring his home farm, I can attest with my own eyes seeing Scout escape his pen on a number of occasions!
It's hard to believe Scout was ever so little! A Nigerian Dwarf goat, he ironically dwarves the other adult goats at the farm, being almost double fellow ND Brickey's size! To this day, Scout still thinks of himself as a little goatie and like in this adventure, it gets him into mischief!
Scout trying to eat my Bride's pizza. It was great getting to see many of Scout's friends in this book. Everyone who visits the farm knows Ms. Luna. She's a silkie black pup that makes sure that all the farm goats stay in line and in their pens. Although, in this book, in order for her face and body to stand out more, artist Cosette Alcade adds some gray and white to Luna's coat. It's amazing to see Luna in action and how just the sight of her will make other goats immediately run to enclose themselves in the nearest pen! In this book, there's also a highland cow, some piggies, a few guineas and lots of goats that despite name changes, I recognized immediately from my nearly 3 years of weekly (or more) check-ins with my herd.
I cannot wait to share this book with all the little ones in my life. Scout's adventure is heartwarming and fun. Plus, if those kiddos ever come to the farm with my wife and I for a visit, it will make that experience that much more fun getting to meet the real life Scout!
My husband, my 5-year-old son, and I all truly enjoy reading Goat On The Go: Scout's Muddy Day. It has become one of those books we reach for again and again because it’s not only adorable, but it’s also genuinely funny and meaningful. We were especially delighted to learn that Scout is a real-life goat—it instantly made the story feel even more special, adding another layer of humor and heart. Knowing she exists out in the world makes her mischievous adventures that much more lovable.
The illustrations are absolutely precious and match the text perfectly. Each page feels lively and inviting, and my son loves the big words that are highlighted throughout the book. He gets so excited pointing them out, sounding them out, and watching how they play into the story. It’s become one of his favorite parts of reading it.
Natalie Horseman really knows how to tell a story that kids can relate to while slipping in moral lessons in a gentle, natural way. As parents, we appreciate that balance so much. We found ourselves laughing throughout the book because Scout is so incredibly relatable—he’s basically a toddler in a goat’s body! Curious, sweet, a little messy, always exploring, and full of energy and excitement for life. Each page reminds us of those real-life, everyday “toddler moments,” but with an extra dose of charm thanks to Scout.
This book is wonderfully written and full of heart. It brings joy to our whole family, and we’re so happy to have discovered Scout’s world. Highly, highly recommend for any family looking for a fun, meaningful, and irresistibly cute story time read!

This book is a must-read for kids who love animals, humor, and adventure! Whether you’re looking for a fun storytime book or a charming tale for a young animal lover, Scout’s Muddy Day will bring giggles and joy to readers of all ages.
Upon opening the first two pages of Natalie Horseman's "Goat on the Go", I was delighted by Scout, the adorable goat with blue eyes, the friendly and colorful illustrations of Alcalde, and the wonderful use of alliteration to create rhythm throughout, which was great when reading aloud to my young son. I anticipated a good story ahead, and the author did not disappoint.
When Scout decides to go on an adventure beyond the fence, he leaves grumpy Pickles and the other sleeping farm animals behind and begins his adventure with a fun frolic in the mud. Soon, though, the adventure has its downsides as Scout's fun leads him to be unrecognizable to the other farm animals. When he arrives home, he is feeling defeated when even grumpy Pickles doesn't recognize him. Luna comes to the rescue by spraying him down with water, and all the muck and feathers are washed away. All along, Scout realizes that Luna was looking out for him on his adventures beyond the fence.
I'll be looking out for more books from this author in the future.

There is something instantly lovable about a curious little goat who can’t resist exploring every corner of Stephens Farm. In Goat On The Go: Scout’s Muddy Day by Natalie Horseman, Scout’s adventure unfolds through playful moments with pigs, curious cows, clucking chickens, and a very patient farm dog. Cosette Alcalde’s bright, expressive illustrations make each muddy mishap even more delightful.
From a parent’s perspective, this story shines as both a fun read aloud and a gentle lesson in curiosity, independence, and problem solving. The repeating “What are you?” line keeps kids giggling, and the farm setting makes it a perfect pick for little animal lovers. As the first book in the Goat on the Go series, Scout’s Muddy Day is a vibrant and engaging addition to any children’s bookshelf.
Goat On The Go: Scout's Muddy Day is a fun and entertaining story about a curious little goat's exploration on the farm. Scout meets several of his fellow farm animals and learns how they spend their day taking mud baths, eating hay and flocking and pecking together. As he journeys home, covered in mud, straw and feathers, his feelings are hurt when the other animals don't recognize him. The story concludes when Luna, his farm dog friend, gives him a bath and Scout realizes that Luna has been looking out for her all day to make sure she makes it safely home. The vibrant and whimsical illustrations compliment the story very well. The vocabulary is a bit challenging for emergent readers (age 4-6), but they will thoroughly enjoy the story when read aloud.
My second scout book was just as enjoyable as the previous (although this one looks like the one to start with). Scout's curiosity gets the best of him, and his wanderings led to a bit of a dilemma. Great tale of making friends, trying new things, and most certainly those who look out for you. Colourful, joyful, a complete farm on display with animals abounding. Some words may be a challenge to new readers, so feel free as a parent or teacher to walk a little one through.
A wonderfully narrated story about a mischievous yet adorable goat - Scout. Scout is curious about what lay beyond the fenced enclosure of the farm he lives on and, spying an opportunity, he dives 'horns first' into exploring the unknown. His curiosity leads him on a fun adventure until he is faced with the challenge of returning to the goat pen. Children will love reading about the adventure of Scot the Goat.
There is so much to love about this endearing story. Scout, the curious and spunky goat, is based on a real-life kid—once I knew this, I was in! The story itself is beautiful, the characters' names are gorgeous, the language chosen by the author is WONDERFUL! Words like skedaddle, triumphant, and determination - readers are sure to enjoy Scout's adventures and expand their vocabulary.

This charming book follows Scout the goat on a series of lively adventures. His playful antics often land him in messy situations, but along the way he discovers that, as much as he enjoys exploring, there’s nothing quite like being with his goat family.
The story is adorable, and the illustrations are vibrant and engaging, making it a delightful read for young children.
This fun picture book for kids stars Scout, a mischievous goat, who visits other farm animals. Kids will enjoy tagging along as Scout visits the pigs, cows, chickens, and horses. This book's illustrations are perfect for bedtime stories and helping young children learn about animals.
This was an adorable book about little Scout the goat's big adventure when he slipped out of his pen on the farm. The illustrations are excellent and the story is one that can be read again and again for little ones. This one will be great for my little niece.

This is a super cute story about a playful goat whose curiosity gets the most of him. The illustrations are great, and the story is fun. Kids will really like it! And I love how the story ended with a sneak peek at Scout's next adventure.

Goat On The Go: Scout's Muddy Day by Natalie Horseman - This was an Amazon freebie. Based on a real farmer and a mischievous goat, this was an adorable story! Happy Reading!
In Scout's Muddy Day, readers are introduced to a young goat whose curiosity gets the better of him. Sneaking out, he goes off to find what is on the other side of the fence while making friends along the way.
The story is very simple to read and follow along while the cast are quirky yet warm even as Scout further gets into trouble. The illustrations, although not realistic, perfectly match the book while adding bright colors to the book. And bonus, there is a picture of the real Scout in the back!
All in all, it made for a cute and fun story that should delight young readers, especially those into goats.
