The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, and for the people on a starship waiting to make a planetary assault, that trip will be as fast as possible so they can—hopefully—make it through the enemy’s defenses. Some liken such a trip as being on an express elevator to hell.
But a planetary assault is a dangerous thing, and it can have consequences for the assaulters as well as those being assaulted. Are you ready to join the attack?
Fifteen of today’s leading scifi authors take you on a variety of science fiction assaults that will have you on the edge of your seats as you go in with the first wave. Are you ready to jump on board the express elevator to hell?

This is one of the better anthologies I’ve read in a while! The early stories are very good but unrelated besides that they resonate well with those of us who have taken an oath to protect and defend those who are unable to defend themselves. However, starting with the Rick Partlow (a great author!) each of the other stories are connected to the same universe. So despite all of these being written by different authors they nonetheless give the reader a cohesive story arc that is made up with more excellent authors who each provided various elements making the sum total much more interesting and compelling. It is a satisfying mix that is greatly expanding the list of “ must read soon” series that I maintain…
The number of familiar authors in this is much larger than in most anthologies that I read primarily for the few novellas that are set as books X.1 to X.9 spaced to give back story, extra details or events from the POV of characters in a series. I only discovered the concept in the past few years when I began using Goodreads for series that I had read 10+ years earlier only to find that some of the short stories and novellas I knew about were actually part of an organized structure that not only told me the best order to read them in but introduced me to more than I’d known ever existed!
I definitely suggest that readers will benefit from this anthology who already know a few of the authors, as well as others that are just discovering an excellent sub-genre of military Sci-Fi.
Loved it. Discovered some new authors in here, and got some cool stories from others that I already knew like Ikenberry. Grab a copy and strap into this express elevator to hell!
