Pack Of The Winter Wolf

Rate this book
The next part of Akira's quest has begun to find someone who can help translate Ashleigh's expensive diary. Travelling with more people isn't as easy as it seems and if they can't solve the friction between them, it might drive a wedge in the group. To solve the issues, they search for a fruit that can create eternal bonds but personal motives and old grudges make it harder than it has to be.

Will Akira be cast aside once more or can she become part of the pack?

Pack of the Winter Wolf is the third installment in the Guardian of the Winter Stone series by Arizona Tape.
I am really enjoying this serial and looking forward to the next one. Each one is a continuation of the last and not a standalone. They are quick, interesting reads and the author is consistent in their writing style and ability to engage with diverse characters, exciting plot, and lovely world-building.
I am happy with Akira's development and love the way her relationship with Ashleigh is growing organically as she learns to trust and heal from her past.
I recommend this series by Arizona Tape, as well as their other sapphic fiction novellas.

I received this free ARC from the author. This is my honest opinion.

We are community-bound creatures and we need each other for many things; survival assistance, raising young (“it takes a village”, personal comfort, division of labor, companionship. Diversity makes the world easier, whether it be languages, physical strength, intellect, herbal lore, culinary skills, etc. We all have talents that can contribute to making life better. Sometimes, merely doing dishes or watching over an ill person are the compassion someone needs.
At times, it can be a difficult decision to provide assistance. While we would want to help everyone, our personal circumstances may not allow for in-depth actions or long periods of time. But…as our characters show us…there can be circumstances in which both sides can be accommodated.

I appreciate that this tale of fated mates has the couple taking their time to get to know each other. For me, it builds up the romantic aspect and it also a wee bit more realistic. Will Akira and Ashleigh find each other in this part of the group’s quest? Waiting with bated breath for the upcoming ‘Guilt Of The Winter Wolf’.

In part 3 of the Guardian of the Winter Stone series, we pick up where we left off in the previous installment: the intrepid group has made their way to the village where they believe a scholar who can translate a journal for them resides. We'll spend all of this part of the story here in the village, where the team helps the people. There are developments in relationships, which is really the focus, as Akira opens up to Ashleigh and they grow closer, and Akira and Danny slowly make their way toward a tentative friendship.

Each time I read an installment of this series I find myself wishing it was longer, that I got more of the story before having to wait until the next one comes out, but I suppose that's one way to keep me coming back for more. I'll guess I'll just have to sit and patiently wait for the next one...

I received a free ARC from the author, but my review is unbiased and left voluntarily.

Akira and the group she is traveling with go to an isolated village to find someone to translate the diary that could point to the location of a Seer who could help them find the Winter Stone, but things are complicated by a plague going through the village. In order to get the diary translated, they have to help the scholar with his sick children and Danny and Akira will have to try to get along well enough to help each other.

I enjoyed this book the most out of the books in the Guardian of the Winter Stone series so far. Danny behaves rudely, but eventually the reader understands why she's behaving the way she is, so it feels less like pointless conflict than it did in the second book. I continue to think that this book reminds me of a fantasy RPG game in a good way, almost like working on helping the children who are sick with the plague is a quest in a main quest line.

The hints of romance with Ashleigh in this book are sweet as well, and it's interesting to see the conflict that Akira and Ashleigh have when it comes to their religion and coming from what seems to be different religious sects. The themes of recovering from abuse are less strong in this book than they were in the previous one, but it still comes through in some of the ways Akira behaves and the book still has a found family theme.

I received a complimentary review copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

I was so disappointed when this story ended! I was ready for the group to keep moving on, now that they helped in the village that gave them a place to stay, and their task for this part of their journey has been accomplished, at least partly, anyway.

Pack of the Winter Wolf continues Akira’s story from the previous books. Akira continues to reveal more of her strengths to her companions. It feels like she is making progress on both her quest to find the holy relic she was tasked with finding and her bonds with the group with whom she is traveling, although there were several moments when I felt sad for Akira as she recalled her past. Alas, now I have to wait for more.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, and was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions are my own.

Pack of the Winter Wolf by Arizona Tape is a great continuation to their Guardian of the Winter Stone series. One of the reasons I liked this book is that it took the characters, main character Akira and all her travelling companions in a new direction. I did not envision this plot line at all, and it enhanced my appreciation of the series significantly. The new element gave the author space to reveal more about several of the main characters, adding to the richness of more than one relationship. While I know the author writes several series and switches among them, they are a fast writer so that the reader does not forget the different worlds these fantasies are set in. I received a free copy of this book, and I am leaving a review voluntarily.

I thought this installment in Akira's story was the best so far! A mysterious illness is affecting the town where the scholar lives who can translate Ashleigh's diary, so Ashleigh and Akira assist with caring for the ill while he translates. Akira finally finds her niche among her traveling companions as she is able to find a medication in the woods that can help with the illness. The scholar is able to translate many passages for them that will hopefully assist them in finding the winter stone. As they move forward, Ashleigh and Akira's relationship begins to bloom, and Akira also makes headway with the distrustful Danny. I'm excited to see where the story goes next!

powerful forces are at work and group dynamics are in fluxas the journey of the pack continues.

It is interesting how a previously undervalued member of her home pack discovers new worth and value for her knowledge of certain language skills and herbs.

Trust and understanding might be hard won.

New hope rises within more than one individual as challenges are met and addressed.

I also enjoy the exploration of bonds and boundaries as the literal and metaphysical journeys continue.

This story continues with the beauty and warmth of a found family growing closer together. I loved the first two and this 3rd book is the best so far in the series. As Akira’s view of others and herself changes from people’s kindness, I feel like this story is healing something in me. I relate to Akira. I also continue to enjoy reading about the new places they visit and was impressed in how they came together to help the latest village.

Akira and Ashleigh grow closer together while they are helping out the sick children of the scholar that they went to find. Ashleigh gets sick as well, and they really test the theory about in sickness and in health, even if they have not progressed in their relationship yet. Akira is starting to see that part of her life as well...

I can't wait for the next part of the series to come out, to see if they can find the winter stone.

The small group faces a new test when they find the scholar. He and his people need their help, but will they rise to the challenge and do they have the skills to help?

Meanwhile, Akira is trying to find her place in the pack, but her expectations based on life in her village may be the biggest obstacle she faces.

I'm voluntarily leaving a review after receiving a free copy. I'm glad Akira is fitting in with the group better and that she finally told Ashleigh her secret. It's nice that they are getting closer. It was really nice how they helped the remote villagers. I'm glad they have found more clues to follow.

Romantasy ✨️ with wolf shifters

This is book 3 of the journey for Akira on her Guardian quest. This picks up right after book 2 with the group searching for a scholar to translate a diary as they arrive to a village. I'm enjoying getting to read Akira coming into her own.

In Pack of the Winter Wolf we see Akira and her companions help out a village in need. Which pulls at the heartstrings, and Danny and Akira come to an understanding. Very nicely written, and makes you want to continue with Akira's story in Guilt of The Winter Wolf.

Searching for the scholar that can translate Ashleigh’s diary, the group arrives at a village where all the children are sick. In exchange for the scholar’s help, Ashleigh and Akira help out in the infirmary and the others do jobs around the town. Danny’s distrust of Akira softens when they are forced to work together when Ashleigh gets sick. Akira also starts to feel that she has value as her foraging skills lead to finding a cure for the illness. But can she trust this new pack and the fragile feelings she’s developing for Ashleigh?

Pack of the Winter Wolf is the third book in the Guardian of the Winter Stone series. This is an episodic fantasy adventure so be prepared for loose ends as each book winds up. As someone who’s lived through trauma, I find Akira to be relatable as she struggles to trust the others around her. Not really knowing love or affection, her wariness of Ashleigh and her claims of them being fated mates certainly makes sense. The slow build of the relationship gives both characters a chance to get to know each other and build a real bond. The shift in Danny’s perspective was well executed as she realizes the extent of Akira’s trauma. I’m very invested in seeing where the story goes next as their quest continues.

"Pack of the Winter Wolf" is the third installment in Arizona Tape's Guardian of the Winter Stone series. The travelers are still searching for a Seer but need the diary translated to find a direction of travel. They happen upon this village and it is truly poor and sad. All of the children in the village are deathly ill, and our wanderers help care for the sick. Akira has a vague notion of a root that might help the children... If it exists in this part of the world. Her herblore and persistence pay off. The villagers send the group on its way to find the seer. The bonds of the group continue to strengthen, and Akira's self-confidence and self-esteem grow stronger as well. Ashleigh, Akira's fated mate, is impressed with Akira's knowledge and willingness to help.

The series continues with Akira still scared that the bigger group will reject her and still keeping a lot of secrets from them.
Searching for the seer they walk into a village that is eerily quiet. Here they start to help the villagers with chores and sick children.
The story moves swiftly along with each book yet is detailed and the characters reveal more about themselves as we go along.
Looking forward to the next installment
