This book is the perfect holiday rom-com, blending just the right amount of spice with a charming plot that gives plenty of space for character growth, humor, and a sprinkle of Christmas magic.
I absolutely adored the main male character—he's basically Mr. Perfect, but with just enough "I can fix him" flaws to make him even more irresistible!
The story wraps up beautifully, striking a great balance without ever feeling overly cheesy. A delightful read!

The perfect Holiday Romance book.
I needed more Carla Luna after finishing her Romancing the Ruins series. This book is cozy, Hallmark, fake-dating, friends to lovers, Holiday romance of fun. I felt connected to both Rosie and Drew throughout the book. I related to both of them with their struggles and wants. All the side characters were great. Rosie's bff Charlie and Drew's client Hannah were refreshing.
It was a quick read that had me laughing, crying, and blushing. I'm excited for the next one in this series!
Highly recommend this book and Carla Luna's others!

I have been a big fan of this author so when I heard she had a holiday book coming out, I was excited to read it! This was a fun and quick read. I really liked the setting and getting to learn about the area as well as the hotel business a little bit. I’m also excited that this is going to be a series, and I’m guessing each of the books may have a holiday theme like this one.
Rosie and Drew were the right couple at the wrong time when they first met. Both had interest in each other, but someone else came along before they could get together. Now they’re both single again, and both kind of need a significant other to deal with exes or pushy family. So you get your good old fake dating trope with this story. Fake dating turns into friends, then friends with benefits, then of course a misunderstanding or one is actually ready to give it a try as a real relationship, causing the big third act breakup.
I loved Rosie’s family, especially when she learned maybe they were there for her more than she thought and she just hadn’t let them in the way they wanted. I hated Drew’s parents, so mad at the way they treated him and his sister and how they caused Drew to have the issues he did. Rosie had some great friends she worked with, they called themselves the Duchess Damsels. All who I hope will have their own stories in this series. I adored them and their friendships, and look forward to the grumpy sunshine romance I think is coming next for a Valentine’s story.
While for me this wasn’t as perfect as the last series was for me, not sure why, something about it wasn’t the same, I still enjoyed it a lot for a good holiday read and as I said, will be waiting for the next one to come out!

I indicated last September that I "discovered" this author while on vacation at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. After scooping up two signed copies of her first 3-book series, I ordered the first of the series and began to read away!
After reading the 3 books, I began reading this book only to discover by accident that Carla had passed away unexpectedly last July. My heart literally lurched as they say. She was only 59 with a husband, son and daughter. I was so sad to hear of Carla's passing that I wanted to order any of her remaining books. She had a 3-book series and a 2nd book to this series, which I ordered which is another excelent story. She was almost finished with book #3 of The Duchess Hotel series, expecting it to be released early this year, which obviously it won’t now.
Needless to say, Carla's life is another that proves life is short. Read the book.

Arc review: The perfect cozy read just in time for the holiday season. Rosie is an assistant general manager at the Duchess, a struggling hotel in Victoria, BC. Her boss just gave her news that the hotel isn’t doing great and unless they can boost their numbers by January, Rosie and the rest of the staff will be out of a job. On top of that, Rosie just broke up with a jerk of a bf and she will have to hear all the nagging from her family about her single-ness. Doesn’t help that she sees them every other weekend for dinner, not to mention their nochebuena traditions. Things are not looking well.
Drew is a fitness instructor who is going through a lot at the moment. He was dating another fitness instructor where he worked but she cheating on him with the new gym supervisor. Not only was this bad enough, now Drew got an invite to their wedding just months after their breakup. How can he show himself at the wedding and pretend he’s doing ok?
During happy hour with the damsels (Rosie’s coworker friends) an unexpected guest shows up at the bar… Drew. Rosie had the biggest crush on him when she would go to workout but decided to stop going after finding out he was dating another instructor. Drew really liked having Rosie come to the gym and was wondering why she never came back. During happy hour (and a damsel influenced meeting) Drew and Rosie came up with the perfect plan. Why not both fake date to help each other out with their current predicaments. Rosie can be Drew’s plus one to the wedding, and Drew can join Rosie to her family events. After three kings day in January, both can break up and be on their way. They wouldn’t have to bare any awkwardness during this holiday season. Besides, Rosie wasn’t sure if she would have a job in January anyway, what if she had to find a new job and move out of Victoria? Plus, Drew isn’t ready to open up to another relationship after the disaster of the last one. This is the perfect plan. What can go wrong?
This book was so sweet, I enjoyed and related to Rosie’s family so much. I loved their relationship and to show their love for each other. I did appreciate seeing Drew’s relationship with his family too. It was real and while difficult, gave an understanding to him and his reluctance to opening up. I wished there could have been more development there with Drew seeking therapy. It does mention that he thought of it, but I would have liked to know if he started. I did enjoy seeing his relationship with his sister. I hope we see a book with her in the future.
And finally… I also enjoyed the spice. It didn’t feel like it was just thrown in just because. The buildup was intentional and it worked for the scenes. Sometimes I feel stories will add a spicy scene because it’s expected, but this did not feel that way. I did like to see Rosie taking charge and getting what she wants (she deserves it) and Drew is the perfect golden retriever bf to give it to her😉

Who would have thought a book taking place in a hotel could be so entertaining. Now this is what a Christmas book should be.
I loved the mmc, he's humorous, entertaining, hot, generous, to sum it up, just about the perfect guy but with enough faults to be likable. Not to mention he loves children and is a volunteer Santa for them.
The Duchess Hotel is in Victoria, the provincial capital of British Columbia. It's located on the West Coast of Canada.
Though not an actual hotel the descriptions of this old past its prime boutique hotel makes me think of it in its former grand days with all its elegance.
Rosie works there and has been there for quite a while, frankly she enjoys her job and works hard at it. With a new GM in she's worried she and her coworkers will lose their job if hotel business doesn't pick up drastically during this holiday season like it has at the competition, the Duke Hotel.
The holidays are something she's starting to dread; all the family plans she must be present for, and her family is expecting her to bring a boyfriend.
A former love interest comes to the rescue, he needs a plus one for a wedding and she needs a few dates for holiday family gatherings. I love this couple, Rosie and Drew. Let the fake dating begin. This rom com kept me in stitches, their interactions with each other was great and the other characters were just as entertaining. I loved seeing the plan they came up with to save the hotel. The book was so festive, it really had Christmas written all over it. Hot chocolates, children's crafts, holiday breakfast, beautiful decorations, cookies, I mean they thought of everything, and it makes the book so festively warm and welcoming.
What's going to happen when the holidays are over, and the fake dating can end? Can they just go back to the way things were?
Fully supportive family and friends make this a holiday read you'll be sure to read more than once.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series and it has a Fall theme.

The holiday season is upon us, with its tinsel and bustle. Stressed? Looking for a little escape? I recommend opening the cover of Santa-Maybe and immersing yourself in a tale that will titillate and tantalize as you find yourself transported to the Duchess Hotel on Vancouver Island.
You will meet Rose Gonzalez, assistant manager of the hotel, as she is confronted by a new boss who delivers an ultimatum to her: Fill up the hotel by any means necessary by the end of the year or face the possibility of losing your job—and your staff with you.
To meet this challenge, Rosie and friends arrange a series of activities—not the least of them is recruiting a Santa to preside over events. Enter into the picture the handsome trainer from the nearby Northlife Fitness Center, Drew Richardson. Rosie has previously had strong feelings for him and thought her emotions were under control, but his presence rekindles old dreams and sparks new desires. He will be their Santa! Imagine the “special holiday gifts” he is ready to bring for Rosie! Of course, complications and misunderstandings get in the way, as well as heavy work stress and familial pressures on both sides.
All this transpires in a splendid setting. There are interludes when Carla Luna’s knowledge of place shows through in descriptions. One example is an evening at Centennial Square—a vivid location. Details of setting make the buildup of romantic tension juicier. There are Christmas carols playing; dozens of decorated trees; a bakery window filled with gingerbread houses; a giant stuffed moose in a Santa hat. Here by the fountain, framed by the decorated archway, passions can no longer be suppressed.
In another chapter Rosie is Santa’s performance assistant wearing an elf suit with dark green tights. After the performance, she must have help with a stuck zipper. Santa’s very touch on her bare back causes her to quiver.
The story unfolds into the new year. Not everything goes smoothly, but at least there are relationships moving from falsehood to truth to be explored, life lessons to be learned, and futures to be pondered.
Make time for this Christmas tale. Smile. It will fill you with delight.

I love The Duchess Hotel book series!
The plan seems pretty simple in theory: Give others the impression that there is a budding relationship growing between Rosie, the assistant manager at a struggling hotel, and Drew, a successful fitness instructor/personal trainer. The idea doesn’t seem completely farfetched, considering Rosie has known Drew for a while–he had been her personal trainer at one point in time, so it’s not like they don’t know each other.
But a big reason she stopped going to the gym is due to her attraction for Drew. And Drew feels the same way. Yet neither character wants a serious relationship. Rosie doesn’t know if she has time to commit to anything long-term, and Drew has recently had his heart broken in such a way that really doesn’t allow much in the way of trust. It doesn’t help that he already has a tainted view of relationships due to his familial past. So it makes perfect sense to put on their game faces and pretend for their families and friends that there is a possible happily-ever-after, even if they both know there will be an eventual ending on the horizon. What could go wrong?
The fauxmance between Rosie and Drew was pretty spectacular and provided just the right amount of burn and spice. From the get go, there is an immediate push and pull, with Rosie and Drew fighting against their urges, despite knowing what could happen if they go down “that” road. I also appreciated that both characters have more going on than just the fauxmance. Rosie is doing all she can to try to save her hotel, and Drew has a lot to consider when it comes to his future. It was nice to get both perspectives during my reading experience, to gain better insight into why Drew is so frightened of love, and why Rosie never feels as though she’s worth it.
Santa Maybe was Christmasy sugar, spice, and kind of nice, with a lot of naughty sprinkled into it, too – and it was a lot of fun! It's a well-deserved five-star experience!

Carla Luna loves to take her readers to places she knows and loves. Santa Maybe is set in the city of Victoria on the west coast of Canada where the author grew up. The Duchess may not be a real place, but Luna makes us believers in the old hotel, a relic from a bygone time. It still has charm, but not the patronage it needs to stay in business. Starting a fake relationship so she could get her family off her back about being single at all the family events during the holiday season, and giving him a date at his ex's wedding, these two quickly obliterate the rules to remain friends and take their relationship to one with benefits.
This is a delightful read with all the holiday activities they plan and execute to drive business to the hotel really putting you in the festive mood, and with Drew playing the part of Santa, Ms. Luna plays up the smexy angle with lots of Santa related fantasies.
There's some depth to our characters as Rosie struggles with work life balance and Drew with trust issues, but the way their romance plays out is heartwarming. There is a third act breakup as Drew struggles with his issues and feeling that he isn't good enough for our Rosie, but lucky he has a 78-year-old font of wisdom to make him see the error of his ways.
One small thing that I thought very unnecessary was the author’s insistence in describing the characters by the colour of their skin. I don't need to know if a minor character is a "white skinned woman" and surely the Latin names and Mexican traditions were enough to clue us into Rosie's heritage without smacking us across the face with it.
Apart from that it was a lovely read to get you into the holiday mood.

She also needs to get her family off her back about being single and working too hard.
Fitness trainer Drew is tired of working with his ex and her fiancé, and not super thrilled about attending their holiday wedding and having it thrown in his face. When he meets up with the hotel crew for happy hour, Rosie persuades him to volunteer as Santa at the hotel, and Drew suggests a fake dating ruse. He’ll be Santa and even come to a couple family events if she’ll be his plus-one to the wedding. And they’d both been crushing on each other for months anyway (not that they’ll admit it).
Loved this book! Drew was the perfect sexy Santa and trainer with muscles for days and a lot of sweetness, but also some major fears of having his heart broken again. Rosie was so likeable—thoughtful, hardworking, empathetic and exactly who I’d want as a friend. While it’s a quick read, there’s nice character and relationship development, and you’re definitely ready when the steam kicks in!

Another Carla Luna book under my belt! I love this author so much, and this was another cutesy romance by her. I will say, if you're used to her super steamy scenes, then this is going to lack a little bit there. While it's still under the "explicit" umbrella, the scenes are shorter and not as graphic.
I liked the hotel aspect. I used to work as a front desk agent and was friends with all the housekeepers and breakfast staff, etc., so I loved the idea of the Damsels and their friendship circle they were creating. It felt like home.

But he very much remembers Rosie, and likes her a lot, so when he finds out about her situation, he suggests a mutually beneficial arrangement - he will take his Santa costume over to attract guests at the Duchess hotel, and in return she will accompany him to the wedding, pretending to be together through the holidays to get her family off her case.
I loved Rosie and Drew - they are each such good characters, neither of them wanting to hurt the other but unable to stop their feelings from turning their faux romance into the real thing.

Santa Maybe is just the romcom to get you into the holiday mood. It's got some of my favorite tropes -fake dating, secret crushes (oh, the pining!), and the one I can never resist: let's bang it out of our systems. But that last one never works, and, delightfully, it's a complete failure here. Rosie needs to bring more Christmas spirit - and customers - to the troubled hotel where she's a manager. so she asks her friend, personal trainer and part-time Santa, Drew, to make an appearance. He's more than willing to help, especially if they can add a fake-dating scheme to their mutual advantage, specifically, that Rosie will be his date to his recent ex's wedding (ouch!) while he takes the heat off eternally-single Rosie at her family gatherings. What starts platonic soon becomes steamy, with a little Santa kink thrown in to make it extra spicy. You'll swoon for these two once they finally figure out their feelings.

A warm & fuzzy holiday story, this book features a modern, hard working Rosie struggling to make her family & boss happy while protecting her best friends' jobs. Rosie's boss is beyond demanding and each time Rosie goes above and beyond for him and the hotel where they work, her boss seems to just raise the bar and become more demanding. Add to the mix his veil threat to fire and replace Rosie and the Damsels (a best friend posse all modern women need), Rosie's on a time crunch to make The Duchess a holiday destination stop. Add in a large, extended family who only means the best, Rosie's stress level hits an all time holiday high.
Drew's a hunky personal trainer with emotional baggage who was just invited to his ex's and co-worker's wedding. From happy hour margaritas, Drew hatches a fake relationship idea with Rosie to help Drew handle the wedding "poor you's" and satisfy Rosie's family worries about her being alone. After all, Drew and Rosie are friends so this should be easy. Add in that Drew has his own Santa suit and it's a holiday rom com I just got caught up in and couldn't put down. I truly enjoyed this story.

It was a really fun, feel-good read. The writing is engaging and easy to get into, and I found myself hooked to know more about our friends at The Duchess Hotel and was flipping faster just to really dig into the souls of each character. The author did a great job making even the secondary characters really interesting. It was nice to see some depth and see them as fully fleshed out characters rather than just plot puzzle pieces.
Adore Rosie and Drew! Their dynamic, especially with the whole Santa suit twist, added a fun and cheeky element to the story. 😏 Perfect for the holiday season!
While Charlie and Knox aren’t the main focus, their story definitely caught my attention, and I’m curious to see how it plays out in the next book. There’s a lot of charm and holiday magic in the mix, and it’s just the right amount of lighthearted with a touch of spice.

I enjoyed the light-hearted, spicy fake dating in this contemporary romance, but my favorite scene was when the hero, Drew, volunteered as Santa at a temporary shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence—he was thoughtful and funny with the kids and sang carols off-key—adorable!

For me, this is one of those books that you pick up because you know it’s going to be a good read and it turns out to be even better than expected. This story hit home for me, in that it made me laugh, smile, swoon and fall in love with the main characters. Drew and Rosie are interesting, strong, relatable, intriguing, complex, wounded, entertaining characters. I enjoyed their romance and the path it took to get to their HEA. I love the family and friends aspects of the story. The secondary characters – including the Duchess Hotel - added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. I love the Canadiana in this story – it was like a piece of home tucked throughout the story. The story is easy to read and get into. I’m excited for the next book in the series.

Cute story. this was the first holiday theme book that I have read for the season. I love the dual POV typically I'm not really into it, but I really enjoyed the way that this was written. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, this book was amazing. I wish a relationship work like that 😂
The last chapter completely did me in. I am so excited that we're getting other holidays and following other people. The way I screamed when I got to the last page because the next book is gonna be about Charlie!
I have never been disappointed with a Carla Luna book yet. This one was just as great as the others.

Rosie enjoys her job working at the hotel, she's worked hard and climbed the ladder but now a new GM has other ideas. Can she keep him on side and get a christmas miracle by improving guest numbers. Drew used to enjoy his job as a personal trainer but now his ex who he still works with has invited him to her wedding. Who does that when he finds Rosie needs help he jumps in and asks if she'll be his plus one if he's her Santa at the hotel. I really enjoyed the romance between the couple both are caring warm hearted people who respect each other. But when sparks fly between them will it cause problems or will they go with it. Another brilliant festive read that's easy to read and entertaining

Dag nabbit - found me another book boyfriend who I adore!! Drew, you sweet, adoring man. Rosie, you’re one lucky gal. To find a man who has been hurt the way he was and then be able to bring out the best in him AND yourself at the same time?? That’s winning. Rosie is strong, selfless, and caring. Drew is sweet, kind, and loyal. Put these two together and you’ve got a magnificent couple of people who shoot fireworks off like crazy! I loved Rosie’s family and loved that Drew stayed close with his sister despite all the things. Family is so important, so I love that Carla included this aspect in her story. And the pinch of spice? Wonderful!! The only negative is that it wasn’t longer!! I wanted MORE Rosie & Drew! Thank you for the opportunity to read this, Carla Luna!

Once I knew it had fake dating and a sexy Santa, I was ALLLLL in and I literally couldn’t put it down 🤭
It was the perfect cozy holiday romance I needed to kick off the holiday season!!
The FMC Rosie has so much heart in this book as she and her gal pals, The Damsels, try to save their hotel. I am such a sucker for found family 💕 And you can’t forget about the help of the golden retriever MMC who had me considering signing up for a gym membership again 😂
Also for any Romancing the Ruins fans, there is a really fun cameo in this book!! ⛏️🪦🗺️

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!
This is the first book I have ever read from Carla Luna. This was also given to me as an ARC, and I am extremely grateful to be able to read this early. Carla is a local vendor at a small business book shop near me in Wisconsin, so I was excited to be able to support a local author.
That being said, I highly enjoyed this book. This was a seriously lighthearted, fun romcom to read for the start of the holiday season. This book features fun, cozy vibes with some adorable main characters, fun fake dating, chemistry between the MCs from the start, and some fun spicy moments.
