This rebirth novel mostly revolved around a dating show but this is not exactly a showbiz danmei. I enjoyed all the drama happening. It's not a dog-blood kind of drama so there's no frustrating elements. It's more of a satisfying drama happening where the MC cut off all of his ties with his toxic adoptive family and friends.
When I see harem, I tend to avoid them. That's why when I read the synopsis of this one, it hinted a harem so I avoided this for a long time. But I found out that THIS IS NOT A HAREM. It's a solid 1v1 couple. It might seem like a harem because of all the potential love interest swarming and pursuing over the MC. But the thing is, I couldn't even consider those men 'potential love interests' or love rivals because they were never given a single chance to be one by the MC. From beginning to end, the MC only has his attention and interest towards the ML. That's why even though this has a harem element, I freaking loved this novel so much.
This has a very satisfying crematorium. I loved that the groveling scum is not the ML, but those guys who abandoned the MC and treated him like a trash. I was so happy seeing them chasing after MC who doesn't have a plan on involving himself with them any longer. I support the MC for being so resolute and decisive at drawing boundaries. When he said no more, he means it. You broke his trust, you cannot earn it again.
The ML is the perfect one for the MC. He's a typical overbearing CEO, but only with most people, not with the MC. He always restrained himself in front of the MC. He never controlled him, never pushed his opinions on him. He genuinely admires and appreciates the MC and always did his best to be the MC's strongest support. Even with the scums chasing after the MC, even though he felt jealous, he still let the MC handle those guys. He has a keen observation that's why he can be so considerate with MC even in little things. He's a kuudere with low emotional intelligence in a cute way, and he's always trying his best when it comes to MC. He's an absolute green flag of a guy, one of the greenest one I've ever read in a danmei.
There are a few little nitpicks here and there that really doesn't change my enjoyment of this novel but because of that, I can't give this a full 5 stars. But I freaking loved this one so much. I would really want to recommend this to everyone.
I really enjoyed this novel. It was not about revenge or dog blood. The protagonist was all about moving forward and live his life, he did not care about those who left him and choose Bai Lin over him, instead he moved forward, fell in love slowly, focused on his sculpting and reached his happy ending naturally.
My only peeve is that even though he reincarnated and his world was a novel it was not the focus of the story nor did it come into play strongly, which made me think that it was unnecessary to add it.
I loved the ML, he was perfect for the MC, the ML only cared about making sure the MC was happy, he respected his decisions and never tried to control him. And even when the other scums tried to get the MC’s attention the ML was never overbearing or overly possessive/territorial in a red flag way, he trusted the MC to be able to handle the other scums bullshit. Chairman Pei RULES, best love interest ever.
Feels like my cheap thrills. It's not the best, but the novel seems to have an attraction akin to Chinese short dramas. I just couldn't stop reading, binged it within 24 hours. It's a really easy read, with minimal brain power required. Just coasting.
There isn't much angst, I would say? Just satisfaction from seeing the revenge being taken place. However, tbh, for one of the characters, I felt like the wife-chasing crematorium doesn't seem to apply to him? He didn't seem to have treated MC badly in pre-rebirth, as for post-rebirth, it was just the initial lack of attraction? He just seems to be a really fickle playboy style of character.
As usual, we have really dumb and arrogant antagonists who have the misconception that they are omnipotent and super awesome. I mean, come on, they could have manipulated / fully utilised MC's skills and talents better (which to me were a little too OP), but of course they didn't. They were quite straightforward in their actions, which made the revenge easily justified.
The interactions between MC and ML were expected, super sweet and fluffy. ML was quite green forest, being secretly jealous, and wasn't over-possessive when he was not in a position to do so. Even after officially being together, he was quite understanding and relaxed (?) to give MC quite a bit of freedom and lots of support.
A little regret is the extras, which seem... a little unnecessary? There doesn't seem to be many add-ons other than maybe a little sneak preview of 1 year later, 2 year later kind? The if-storyline was.... reminiscent of another novel. Even the background of MC was also similar. But it was just those 2 aspects.
Overall, it's a pretty good and easy-to-read novel; the plot was not too dog-blooded, and the face-slapping/ revenge was quite satisfactory. IMO, the book hit quite a few of my preferences, leading to me bingeing it. Recommended read if you're into wife-chasing crematorium, face-slapping novel.
Recomendo!
Not the most spectacular story, but does what it says on the tin. It's a revenge story where everyone who was mean to the main character ever gets their comeuppance. Based on the style of story, it's a little overdramatic. The relationship is pretty satisfying and cozy, though.
As part of the romance show, the characters do a lot of activities, some of which (horseback riding, skiing) are rather under-researched. The sculpting is also somewhat under-researched, which is a bigger problem because it's a bigger part of the story. There is a bit of mild racism/colorism along the lines of "ooh, mixed race people [read: lighter skinned people] are soooo pretty," but that does taper off as you get further into the story.
3.5 ⭐ Rebirth. Reality Show. I want to second the review that compared this to Chinese short dramas. It was really addictive and fun to read with zero brainpower required. The way the MC was heart hardened and set on not turning back was thoroughly satisfying, and their sweet moments got me grinning like an idiot 🥰
It was fun while it lasted, I will probably forget about it after a while though. Note: the MC is extremely Gary Stu so be prepared to witness the impossible.
cute. the main couple is adorable. disappointed by the lack of side couples. the sculpting parts I couldn't visualize at all. got slow around the end but still cute
One of the better slow burn novels I've read. The face slapping is minute and some of the "villains" are relatively annoying, but the story tends to focus more on how the MC's past has changed his goals now. The romance build up is very sweet and the pay-off it is very satisfying. 3.5/5
