Yoshihiro Togashi

The Dark Tournament is now underway and you can tell this is where Togashi really got his groove going.
With the first round going to a surprise victor, it is up to Kurama and Hiei to win now. Both get to show off exactly why they're so powerful. Kurama having to not snap, and Hiei going all out with his new attack that looked fantastic. But it is really Yusuke's bout with a Drunk that you think might be silly but is intense, brutal, and well worth the first major fight for our new Yusuke after the training he had.
Overall this is a wonderful volume that showcases a lot of great fights and begins to build towards the next one nicely. I really enjoyed all the character interaction, you finally feel like they're an official team now. The fights are more intense and brutal as well. I can't wait to get even further into this book.

Esse volume vai dos cap 56 ao 63 e continua o arco do torneio das trevas decidindo as equipes que vai avançar para a segunda fase do torneio cara eu tinha esquecido que logo aqui já tinha a batalha icônica do yusuke contra o bêbado kkkkkkk rachei demais e as outras lutas foram muito boas também.

I guess I didn't review this one before, either.
Man, look at all the mob demons on Page 47. Togashi is such a genius artist. It's a shame his back fucked him up before we ever got something like a Dragon Quest ripoff with his character design. He'd be perfect to replace Toriyama.
Gattasval, later in the volume, is sick as well.
Yusuke versus Chu is one of my favorite fights in this series.

Damn, this was fun! The fights were thrilling and entertaining, the characters were badass and fun, and it was just overall super enjoyable! Also, the bonus story at the end was interesting and featured my favorite boys!
Don't have anything else to say really, looking forward to the finale of the Ichigaki fight so we can be introduced to two of my fave side characters in this series!

I vaguely remember this part of the tournament from the anime, but my memory is a bit fuzzy here. Sadly, I don't think the chapter about how Hiei and Kurama met was ever in the anime, but I am glad I saw it in the manga.
I am constantly bothered by the way Togashi jumps between Yusuke + Kuwabara and Hiei + Kurama. Sometimes, it does not seem necessary to check on Hiei or Kurama as they aren't actually doing anything, expect maybe for Kurama to try to soften Hiei. There is more action with Yusuke and Kuwabara as they are almost always fighting and so the jumps between places makes Hiei and Kurama look like filler characters rather than main ones.

Mi tomo favorito hasta el momento! Seguimos con el Torneo Oscuro y conocemos al participante misterioso del equipo de Yuuske, pero lo mejor es un capítulo extra al final sobre cómo se conocieron Hiei y Kurama. Esta parte no sale en el anime, por lo que fue completamente novedosa para mí, y me encantó! Aunque es un poco triste...

The adventure continues with the spirit detective and his friends. They fight battles in this dark tournament and end up making some new friends in the end of it all. A great manga series. A must read.

I don't normally like these fight tournaments like those in Dragon Ball, Fairy Tail, etc., but this one is ok so far.

Man, the fan-translation I'm reading is so bad I might just be better off struggling through the original Japanese....
The Dark Tournament gets better, but in a weird way. The Roto and Zeru fights are way quicker than I remembered, and thus feel a bit weak, since all they really do is showcase new abilities for Kurama and Hiei respectively. But the Chuu fight is actually better than I remembered, and a definite highlight of the manga so far, as well as Togashi's abilities as an artist more broadly speaking. I also like the brief battle between 45% Younger Toguro and the shitters he obliterates.
The manga then moves into the second round of the Tournament, in which we have Dr. Ichigaki's cyborgs, which I want to say are influenced by Dr. Gero and his Artificial Humans from Dragon Ball, but I think both groups debuted in 1992, so I'm unsure it's "fair" to say Togashi took such influence. Anyway, the official battle is Yusuke/Kuwabara/Masked Fighter against M1/M2/M3, with the other Ichigaki goons fighting Hiei and Kurama in the nearby woods, but of course the other baddies are shitters and die easily, allowing Hiei and Kurama time to drop into the ring at the end. Oh, and the Masked Fighter is seemingly revealed to not be Genkai (but it actually is...).
The last chapter here is an omake about Hiei and Kurama's first meeting, which is decent as well.

I already don't feel like doing the Nen thing anymore, but fuck it. Roto is an Enhancer, like a lower-level version of Menthuthuyoupi, I guess. Zeru is... an Emitter? Can Emitters launch flames, or do they need to Transmute Aura into fire first? Chuu is an Emitter because his main attack is basically a Reigan. The M# with the rings is I guess and Emitter, while the one who looks like Master Asia is probably also an Emitter who uses In for his attacks, and the last is maybe just an Enhancer. Ichigaki himself is possibly a Manipulator.

A decent volume. I like how some new abilities are coming out from our heroes and we're seeing interesting opponents with interesting gimmicks. The humour and emotional beats seem to be hitting right so far. The tale about Hiei and Kurama's meeting was nice, although slightly unclear (for example, do we even know why Hiei attacked Kurama? Are we just to believe he sensed a random demon and assumed he was working for Eight Hands?)
What I'm not a great fan of is how abilities aren't fully fleshed out. You kinda just see each one once and that's really it. Aside from Kuwabara though. Most of Kurama's abilities are one-offs and we haven't even seen Hiei use his demon form since Volume 1. I don't really get it. Yusuke also doesn't feel like he's developed, other than somewhat arbitrarily becoming stronger. Hiei and Kuwabara are the only ones who have seemed to develop as time as gone on with quite a few new abilities and clear strength markers.
Overall, fine but could be better for sure.

The Dark Tournament begins in earnest with the rest of the team getting a turn to fight. I enjoy how different each fight feels. Each combatant has a unique style that sets a very distinct tone. The action is kept at a breakneck pace, with each fight being over in just a chapter or two.
At times the illustrations aren't always clear. Clearly Togashi knew this and often provides little captions to state what is going on in a problematic panel. The big bad demon in the backup story has a visual appearance that made me laugh more than cringe, but that's just part of the charm to this series and its distinctive character designs.
I do wish the girls got more screen time. I miss Botan, in particular. But, I also don't see a good way to bring them into the story that is so focused on life and death battles.
I still prefer the story arcs where Urameshi and company had more varied tasks than simply destroying the opponent standing in front of them. But even as a pure fight comic, there's still plenty to enjoy.

This is a contender for best volume of YuYu Hakusho no DOUBT! Kurama reveals his cold blooded side, Hiei debuts the black flames of the demon plane, and Yusuke has one of the single best fights in the whole series with the "Knife Edge Death Match" vs Chu (so good it inspired my original YouTube username in like 2006). It's dark, bloody, and the drawing chops on display are next level. Togashi is as checked in and excited by the material here as at any point I've ever seen in his work if not more. I would go so far as to maybe recommend this to people who've never read and are wondering if the series is for them - you may not totally understand what's going on, but you'll know whether or not you'll like the manga by just reading this and seeing if you go "Holy shit this owns" or not.

So happy to finally have this volume in my hands. It was a tough one to finally get after waiting forever for reprints...
🌸The story so far has the Urameshi gang in the dark tournament. Fighting demons of various evil levels, and we are learning a lot about their power and weapon upgrades since our last set of battles. The art is amazing and keeps improving. Togashi really has one of my favorite styles within this particular series. I love it so much. The story is wonderful so far, the changes made from the manga to the anime are quite different. I still only slightly prefer the anime over the manga, but we will see if that opinion changes later on. I did love the extra story about Kurama and Hiei at the ending, so cool♥️

Gotta love the early fights, mate! *Hic* While it’s a little downplayed here in the manga, Dragon of the Darkness Flame was possibly the coolest named attack in anime for a loooong while. Like damn man, the bloke throws his soul out like bait on a fishing rod *hic*, and here comes the giant snake. You wank, then out comes a dragon and kablooey. You got yourself a stain on the wall. *hic*
In this case /spoiler it looks a lot like the bloke Zetsu. Poor fella`, if only he’da known e was hot stuff *hic* ah, nice. Hiei is just cold brutha. I'm feeling super sick right now (caught a nasty virus), but I always know Yuyu Hakusho will make me feel better. It was a nice distraction. I wouldn't say this was my favorite one, but it's part of the Dark Tournament story arc....so.....<3 PLUS: (totally forgot about this!!) Bonus "How Hiei and Kurama Met" story at the end. As they are my favorite characters, I was tickled pink. Shuichi is adorable.

This is pretty stellar volume as the Dark Tournament is underway. Yusuke's team is up against some really interesting opponents. The fight between Zeru and Hiei stands out to me as we get to see more of Hiei's awesome power. Overall this in an adrenaline-filled ride that is sure to entertain any shonen fan.

Yusuke vs Chu was incredible, the Dark Tournament really is peak. The way the art style changes for their slugfest is so impressive. I also like how all-out everyone went for this first round, how it's bound to have consequences, and how the next match is set up to more test their abilities (and sympathies) than be a straight up brawl.

I liked this volume a lot, the tournament is pretty awesome as it's like Dragon Ball with a demonic twist. I also appreciated Kurama and Hiei's backstory and how they met. I think I have locked myself in on finishing this series now and hope to do so at a faster pace that I've been reading thus far.

Some of my favorite highlights from volume 7: Kurama's short fight against Roto, Yusuke and Chu's fight, and the beginning of the match against Dr. Ichigaki's team. Volume 7 also includes a short comic that shows how Hiei and Kurama met a year before they met Yusuke.

In addition to revealing how Kurama and Hiei met as a bonus story at the end, this ends the first round for Team Urameshi, and the fights are great, but they come at a cost to (mostly) Hiei and Yusuke. Onto the second round, where we finally see who the masked fifth fighter is! *wink*

Nessa edição, vemos nossos protagonistas lutando no torneio que foram convocados na edição anterior. Todos eles estão mais fortes, então é bem interessante ver essa evolução. O Hiei está com um poder novo que estou curioso para ver o desenvolvimento, aquele fogo do inferno foi bem brabo.
