I first heard of this beautiful book on Cerys Matthew’s slot on BBC radio 6 music where she interviewed the very humble and remarkably talented Mackenzie Crook. He read the entire book and I was transported to a warm and soothing setting that k knew I’d love to revisit again and again. It’s a simple story very like a child’s book. However the message of sharing music and poetry was golden. Really lovely piece of artistry too.
I’m not sure why but Goodreads say the this book is by an ‘unknown author’. It is by Mackenzie Crook. It is a beautiful book with wonderful drawings. Who knows what Nick Drake would have achieved if he had not died so tragically young.
A bittersweet story with charming illustrations about what it might be like to meet a departed hero. Actor Mackenzie Crook imagines what it might be like to meet the enigmatic folk singer and songwriter, Nick Drake. As a fellow Drake fan I was charmed by this story, and wish I could have met him too.
When I was young, I would ask to see that book and was bewitched by the idea of spending the afternoon with a ghost, somebody I admired but could never truly meet.
"I'd say "Oh yes, I'd love to!" and inwardly rejoice Though I know I would be grateful just to hear his speaking voice
