Unwed, unemployed and pregnant, Rebecca Young is in desperate need of a job. But finding work seems impossible. So when her late ex-boyfriend’s cousin Walker Greystone offers her room, board and a part-time job at the library he’s renovating in Eden, Texas, she eagerly accepts. But as they work together on a project that could change both of their lives, their feelings for one another deepen. Can Rebecca and Walker overcome their scars from the past and embrace the possibility of a happily-ever-after together?
From Love Uplifting stories of faith, forgiveness and hope.
Alena has written such a sweet, heartfelt debut! Rebecca has spent her life feeling rejected, and now she’s doing her best to prepare for motherhood on her own. When she’s unexpectedly welcomed by her late ex’s family, she’s stunned by their kindness, and even more so when Walker steps in to care for her like she truly matters. Rebecca can't help but see the wonderful man Walker is, and wonder what it would be like if he was in her life as more than a friend. But questions what she has to give, plus she is pregnant, and every man in her life so far has walked away from her. Will Walker walk away?
Walker has long carried the weight of being the man of the family, always afraid of letting his family down. When Rebecca shows up pregnant with his late cousin’s child, he sees it as his responsibility to help.... But he doesn’t expect to want more with her, or to imagine a future where she becomes part of his life for good! But given the men in his family's past, he questions if it's in his dna to be able to be the man a person like Rebecca deserves.
This is such a lovely debut... sweet, emotional, and a true slow burn. If I could wish for one thing, it would be just a bit more buildup and emotion in their first kiss, it felt too brief for such a tender story. But even so, I really enjoyed it, and hint hint: there are a lot of unmarried Greystone men left… I’d love to read more about this family!
I received a complimentary copy, this review reflects my honest opinion.
This is a solid debut from Alena! I really enjoyed all the elements of this story. The library playing a large role in story was perfection for me and the small town setting was fun. Rebecca and Walker were absolute sweethearts. Rebecca’s wanting to find home and Walker wanting to be good enough complimented each other well. Their relationship felt natural and developed easily over the course of the story. There are also several characters in the story that I am hoping we get their stories as well. This book sets up a series for this town very nicely, and I am here for it. All in all, this is a sweet read and I will definitely read more from Alena in the future.

This was such a sweet story! I loved the way the Greystone family immediately embraced Rebecca when she came to town. They offered love and support to this sweet woman who was soon to navigate single parenting.
The gentle romance that bloomed between Walker and Rebecca made me happy, too. They were both kind and hardworking people who cared about the people in their lives. Walker carried the burden of always feeling responsible for others for most of his life, which was something he had to learn to let go of and realize that God was in control of things. He definitely struggled with that.
Add in some small town charm along with a bit of small town drama and this was a very enjoyable story to read.

Written with a lot of heart and a foundation of faith, this story was absolutely a well-written and delightful romance. Rebecca arrives to the small town of Eden, pregnant and hopeful that she will find the job she needs to take care of herself and her unborn baby. There she is blessed to be taken in by Bell Greystone and her adopted sons. Accepted into their family unit, Rebecca finds a perfect job for her and perhaps even someone she can trust and love in Walker Greystone, a contractor with a lot of heart and plenty of plans to take care of the family business. With a blemished past, Walker has to learn to accept himself and the fact that God created him and loves him while Rebecca has to accept the fact that being rejected repeatedly does not mean that she is unlovable. This story has appealing and believable characters and a charming story with a warmhearted romance that was easy to cheer for. This debut from the author is a slam dunk for me with its emotional depth and refreshing look at what family really means. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions expressed are my own.
Rebecca Young is unmarried, unattached, and very much pregnant. Desperate for a job in her field, she takes a part-time librarian position in her now deceased ex’s hometown. What she wasn’t expecting was her ex’s cousin, Walker Greystone. But that’s okay, Walker wasn’t Rebecca either. This sweet love story had a great beginning that drew you in and made you want to keep reading.
This love story was a little unexpected in that it didn’t follow the typical romance formula. There was no big misunderstanding that made Rebecca and Walker turn away from each other; instead, the focus is on Rebecca and Walker’s internal struggles and how they handle them. While it makes for a sweet story, I did miss the formula just a little. I liked that Rebecca didn’t think of the pregnancy as a mistake; some of her struggles were related, but she wasn't spending time beating herself up over this. All babies are a gift from God. Given that this is a Christian romance, I appreciate that Auguste didn’t toe the line on that storyline. It helped keep me engaged that it wasn’t a story of repentance on premarital relations. Overall, this was a good love story. I look forward to reading more from Auguste.

a sweet contemporary romance full of small-town charm, found family, and new beginnings!
rebecca's desperate for a fresh start, so she heads to eden, texas, the hometown of her late ex-boyfriend, for a part-time librarian position. that she's pregnant is quite the revelation to his family, but to her surprise, they welcome her with open arms (mostly). walker greystone, especially, goes out of his way to make sure she has reason to stay, even as he works through the complications of his own reputation and standing.
as rebecca and walker work on letting go of the burdens they each carry, a family on his doorstep proves to be a heartwarming story. it's nice to see the characters taking care of one another with a spirit of family and acceptance, and rebecca and walker both find ways to help the other in ways they most need. as a result, their romance feels like it develops naturally and in a way that makes sense.
there are mentions of God throughout the story, and both rebecca and walker learn to see how God has been present in their lives, though they may not have always seen it. however, i did get to the end and wish that, at some point in the story, there was a moment of repentance from rebecca. i think it's possible to see the baby as a blessing and still approach the choices that were made with a little more nuance. all the acceptance she experiences in eden felt a little hollow without it.
still, it's a sweet, uplifting story, and fans of contemporary romance could easily enjoy this quick read.

considerations: —language: none —spice: kisses only —faith: mentions of God, prayer, and church —content: pregnancy out of wedlock, mentions of death, loss, and cancer
This author's heartfelt debut novel is filled with faith, diversity, forgiveness, and love . . .
Rebecca Young is a librarian who is pregnant and in need of a job. Her ex-boyfriend, Vince, abandoned her when she informed him of her pregnancy. He has since passed in a tragic accident.
Rebecca appears to be all alone in the world; but as a kind, empathetic woman, she decides to take a box of Vince's things to his former hometown to give to his family. Eden, Texas, is a small town, and she sets out to drop the box off at his mother's home on the family farm.
This could be very awkward since Rebecca has not met Vince's mother, Bell Greystone, even though she and Vince lived together for two years. When she appears at the farm she encounters Walker Greystone, Vince's first cousin and someone Rebecca definitely remembers from his visits to see Vince at their apartment.
Walker is fighting demons of his own from his past. As the oldest son and the one in charge of the family's HVAC business, Walker is juggling many responsibilities and duties. His brothers are supportive and hard-working, but they question his ambitious goals for their company.
Through the community connections of the Greystone family, Rebecca finds a job in the public library where she flourishes. As the plot moves forward, Rebecca and Walker develop a strong friendship and more . . . By working together on several projects, they make a positive impact on their community—and on each other.
Diversity plays an important role in this story, and it is a well-written element of the character development and events in the story which I appreciated. The faith thread is strong and meaningful.
This book is completely clean in language and content. I will look forward to reading more of this author's work in the future.

A Family on His Doorstep is the sweet, uplifting debut Love Inspired book from author Alena Auguste. It’s a found family type of romance set in the charming town of Eden, Texas.
When Rebecca Young arrives in the small town where she hopes to find a job, her first stop is to drop off a box of her ex’s things. She expects to leave it on the porch and leave without having to talk to anyone. But God has other plans!
Walker Greystone is shocked to find his cousin Vince’s ex on the doorstep, and he’s even more surprised when he sees that she’s pregnant. When his aunt, Vince’s mom, finds out that Rebecca is expecting her late son’s child, she immediately welcomes Rebecca into their family, inviting her to stay with them. While Rebecca is reluctant to accept such kindness, and what she feels is a hand-out, it’s the best option for her and her unborn child.
Rebecca, a library of science major, has completed her master’s degree and hopes to land the part time job available at the local library. She does, and it happens to bring her closer to Walker too as he’s working on the library’s renovation. I loved how natural Walker and Rebecca’s interactions felt and that theirs is a slow burn romance. What starts out as friendship naturally leads to a sweet romance.
Walker’s attitude towards himself transforms as he begins to see himself as a child of God. Walker’s own father and grandfather left a terrible legacy behind, and some of the older townsfolk still associate him with their failings. It doesn’t matter what our earthly fathers are like. Even if they’re great, they can’t measure up to our heavenly Father, and Auguste presents this very well in the book. I appreciated the fact that people didn’t judge Rebecca because she was pregnant out of wedlock. Everyone showed the grace that we should show to all women in her case. No child is a mistake, and God has a plan for each one.
I think Love Inspired and sweet romance readers will enjoy A Family on His Doorstep for its well-written characters, cozy small town feel, and inspirational themes. I’m looking forward to more from this author!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
A Family on His Doorstep is a fun read. I enjoy stories revolving around libraries and librarians. I mean, what bibliophile doesn't, right?! It's fun to watch the relationship between Rebecca and Walker grow, how they encourage each other, and grow together. I can totally relate with how hard it is to find a job! Oy!
If you enjoy contemporary sweet Christian romance, set in Texas, "ya'll" will want to add it to your TBR list.
Life has been very much on the heavy side lately, and sometimes a girl just needs a sweet escape, and nothing hits the spot like a Love Inspired read. One choice that a pregnant and alone Rebecca makes ends up being a major plot twist not only in her life but one that ends up affecting many in the small town of Eden, Texas.
While not under the most ideal circumstances, I loved seeing Rebecca in Eden with the Greystones, particularly Walker Greystone and his aunt, Bell. They all fit together like perfect, little puzzle pieces, and the whole time I’m reading, I can’t help but wonder why Rebecca’s ex, Vince, never brought Rebecca home to meet his family. It’s clear the Greystones take care of their own and all have hearts of gold, so this question hovered in my mind the entire time I was reading and it was one that was never fully answered.
One of my favorite parts of this novel was the library planning and the grand opening. The ideas that Rebecca had for the library were some I wish my local library could implement. Even though this is a fictional place, I found myself getting excited about the prospect of her vision, and it’s not even real! Great writing by Alena here, though I wish there could’ve been more time to show the full vision and not so focused on the love story.
This is one of those novels you pick up when you’re wanting a sweet escape to a picturesque small town with well-meaning characters and situations that aren’t too deep. There is a lot of heart and charm in this novel thanks to the people as well as the library and small-town setting, and it was a quick and fun read, and I was here for it.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
Christian Contempory Romance by the LOVE Inspired brand is a wonderful genre. A Family on His Doorstep by Alena Auguste is the latest book in the genre that I have read. The LOVE Inspired books are one of my favorite series, so I was excited to read this book by a new to me author.
WOW, this storyline had me hooked from the beginning. Rebecca Young is about to become a Single Mom and has no job. Rebecca is Pregnant and her Ex-boyfriend has passed away. She makes her way to Eden, Texas, to the home of her Ex-Boyfriend, to deliver a box to his family. She is surprised when, Walker Greystone, the cousin of her Ex offers her Room and Board and helps her secure a librarian job, she accepts the offer with gladness. I LOVE how Rebecca is eager to work at the Library and make a life for herself. The surprise in this story was that Walker was working on a project at the Library and notices Rebecca often. They begin to form a friendship and relationship. Walker has a "reputation" in town because of the troubles of his Father and Grandfather. I love the way Rebecca encourages him that he is not a failure and he begins to see God in his life. The changes in Walker's life because he allows God to be in control are outstanding. I also see that Vince's family, her Ex-boyfriend and father of her unborn child, is very accepting of Rebecca. Walker and Rebecca are growing closer and acknowledging they have strong feelings toward one another. Walker has overcome so much in this short time and feels God is telling him that Rebecca is "the one". This book is one of Faith, Second Chances, Trust, and Family. I really enjoyed this book and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian Contemporary Romance. WONDERFUL BOOK!
This is such a sweet life-affirming story of a young woman who due to some past mistakes, finds herself in a dire situation. She is pregnant and the father of her child has walked away and abandoned her. To add another layer of grief, he dies shortly later. Taking what she has left of his things, she goes to his family home and finds open arms and love. Instead of pushing her away like he did, his family welcomes her.
This is not at all the response Rebecca thought she would receive. With this newfound family, she finally has a hope for the future. Not only that, but her ex's cousin is beginning to fall for her. This was a slow burn romance and family drama of a couple working through some complicated matters to bring about not only peace and safety for the baby, but also a secure future for themselves. I really liked the maturity and love that was shown throughout by most of the characters. It was also refreshing to see how much this little baby boy was loved even before he was born.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.
A Family on His Doorstep by Alena Auguste is a sweet story. I thought this book was well written with steady pacing. I enjoyed getting to know Rebbeca Young, Walker Greystone, and the rest of the Greystone clan. Bell Greystone is such a dear. The romance is the slow burn type. I was a tad disappointed with the first kiss. I expected it to be a special, emotional moment between the two, instead of a brief smooch. I liked that Rebecca did not see her pregnancy as a mistake. She was happily anticipating the birth of her child, but Rebecca was worried about providing for it. Faith, family, and community were themes in the story. I especially liked the fact that Rebecca was a librarian, and she was making a difference in the lives of children. Since there are still some single Greystone men, I hope we will get to visit Eden again. A Family on His Doorstep is a heartfelt tale with an unexpected visitor, a warm welcome, financial difficulties, air conditioning setbacks, grand opening planning, and a helpful family.
I enjoyed this sweet romance. I liked how Rebecca and Walker had to overcome some feelings of inadequacy as they tried to move forward in life. I liked that Walker, after the shock of finding out that Rebecca was pregnant with his cousin’s baby, helped her to find her place. I liked how Rebecca helped Walker to realize that he wasn’t his father and to stop comparing himself to him. I liked how the community came together to beautify the library and how Rebecca became a part of the community. I liked how Rebecca and Walker find family and home with each other. I also loved Aunt Bell and her great wisdom and love.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
A sweet story of second chances, I loved the characters in this debut novel. Author Alena Auguste is someone I’ll definitely want more books from.
Rebecca hasn’t made the best choices, and owns up to it. The Greystone family takes her in, in a surprising way. And Walker. Can he trust her? Both are kind and good hearted, full of hope for the future. Alone.
Small town charm with room to grow, I’d love to visit the library where Rebecca got a job. I’d just love to visit the town. Auguste did a wonderful job with setting the scenes, and made them become real to me. I highly recommend A Family on His Doorstep!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
Alena Auguste is a new author and this is her debut book. What a beginning! I would definitely read more books by her. I’m hoping this is the start of a series where each of the Greystone brothers get their own story! Ms Auguste writes a heartwarming story. She has a good storyline, good characters, and a sigh worthy ending. Rebecca Young is pregnant, jobless, and abandoned by the baby’s father. Walker Greystone and his brothers are fighting against their father and grandfather’s reputation as alcoholics that didn’t keep their word. Can Rebecca and Walker discover that they are enough?
Tender, uplifting and moving! Alena Auguste has out done herself with her debut novel. I was absorbed into the Town of Eden Texas and into the lives of Rebecca, Walker and Aunt Bell. All the characters are so relatable, with back stories that tug at your heartstrings and bring out the raw emotion in their family unit. I hope everyone has a chance to curl up with this one, it makes you feel like you're coming home.
Pregnant and lone, Rebeccas arrives in Eden, Texas, in hopes of finding employment at the library. She has just earned her master's degree. When she arrives, she goes to drop off belongings of her ex-boyfriend, who is the father of her unborn child, to his mother. He has recently passed away in a car crash. What happens next will change the course of her life and her unborn son. This is a heart warming story. It's a story of love, faith, second chances and new beginnings.
I really enjoyed the unfolding of Rebecca’s story. Gaps were filled in at just the right pace for she and Walker both. I look forward to more books in this series.
