Star-Crossed #1

Her Day To Die

Rate this book
My brother? He’s dead. My first love? Dead.

I am alone. Until I’m not.

My first love, well he had three brothers, and for some reason they are hellbent on not leaving me alone. No matter where I go or what I do, there they are. Always watching in the shadows, waiting for something to happen, but what?
I try my best to steer clear of them, but in doing so I stumble across a mystery. It’s one that I must solve, even if it means putting myself in danger, even if it means getting the help of the three brothers I should most decidedly avoid.
Even if it means realizing nothing is as it seems.

Join Sunday as she navigates the waters of grief, the devastation of first love, and the possibility of a truth so painful she might just wish she could forget it all.
This is a why choose, Sunday will end up with multiple men. And I want to make this abundantly clear, nothing is at it seems.

One of those books you read and think, wait…what? You know something is not right.

Sunday’s brother and her boyfriend d!e in an accident and she is to say the least devastated and lost blaming herself. However, her boyfriends’ brothers take it upon themselves to look after her, to let her lean on them, to be there for her, she starts to have feelings for them as they do her but her guilt is the barrier they all can’t get through. There is more to their story and as it unfolds we are left with more questions but will they be answered?

Sage’s writing is brilliant, she lays it down and you just float away, the emotions and angst she makes you feel 😬 I can’t wait for the next book, to seek out the answers I need.

This story is without a doubt a 10 out of 10! 👏❤️ I am BEYOND happy that I was able to be a part of the ARC team for this book! Part of me wishes I would have taken my time reading but when tell you that this is one of those books that get you hooked I mean I was HOOKED! I am usually a slow reader but this story had me dying to know what happens next! I absolutely love all of the characters in this story and how each of the brothers are different and provide Sunday the FMC a different type of safety/security to each of them. The story, the characters, the plot??? 10 out of 10. Beautifully written and now sadly I must wait for book 2 😭😭 because this book does end on a cliff hanger but it's just so damn good! Definitely did NOT expect the truth about Sunday what happens to her to be THAT. (Sorry not trying to spoil anything for anyone 😏) again 10 out of 10! Highly recommend anyone to read this! 👏

Sage RelleAnne has done it again! This isn’t my first rodeo with this author and I’ve absolutely adored all of her books so far. This was a nice change of pace for this author, who doesn’t love a good slow burn? The ending will have you craving the next installment! I’m so excited to see what’s to come!

This book was fantastic! I was hooked from the first page and kept guessing all the way through. The mystery and intrigue were so well done—I never knew what was coming next. The love the O'Brien brothers had for Sunday was truly heartwarming, always wanting to protect her. The twists and turns had me on edge the entire time, and that ending left me stunned. I can’t believe I have to wait for the next book!

This author loves to keep me going with her cliffy's! I loved this book, it might actually be my favorite thus far. The entire book I was trying to figure out where the title came from. I knew something was up, and it all came together on the last page. Epic! Glorious! Chefs kiss! I need to know what happens next to Sunday. I also need her to give in to these boys! Like they are so delicious and I'm here for all OF IT.

Sage Relleanne’s *Her Day to Die* is a captivating and emotional rollercoaster that seamlessly blends suspense, family secrets, and slow-burn romance. From the very beginning, I was hooked by the intricate dynamics between Sunday and the O’Brien brothers, whose lives are forever changed by tragedy. The mystery was unpredictable, constantly throwing me off track and keeping me guessing until the very end. While the romance wasn’t overly steamy, the few moments of intimacy were well-timed and powerful, adding depth to the story without overshadowing the suspense. This book offers the perfect balance of emotional tension, mystery, and romance, making it a must-read for fans of romantic suspense.

Sunday’s life has been overshadowed by the deaths of her brother, Auggie, and his best friend, Tripp O’Brien. Unable to move on without answers, Sunday dives headfirst into uncovering the truth about what happened that fateful night. Her search pulls her into the complex lives of the surviving O’Brien brothers—Axel, Darius, and Grayson. As she grows closer to them, especially one of the brothers, she realizes that the tragedy that took Auggie and Tripp’s lives may not have been as simple as it seemed. Dark secrets and hidden motives begin to surface, leaving Sunday to question who she can trust. With danger lurking in unexpected places, Sunday must navigate grief, love, and deception in her pursuit of justice. But will uncovering the truth about her brother’s death cost her her own life?

**Tropes:**
- Family secrets
- Suspenseful romance
- Brothers’ best friend
- Tragic backstory
- Slow-burn romance

**Trigger Warnings:**
- Death of loved ones (brother, close friend)
- Violence
- Emotional trauma
- Grief and loss
- Brief mentions of assault

My Rating: 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (rounded up from a solid 3.75)
Series Status: Thank fuck book 2 is already out… that cliffhanger was criminal and my sanity wouldn’t have made it.

We Have:
✅ MMF (No MM)
✅ Why choose
✅ Slow Burn
✅ Dubcon
✅ Mental health rep
✅ Quick read <300 pages
✅ Mystery
✅ Three broody brothers, one stubborn FMC
✅ Filthy-mouthed men who talk like sin
✅ Lack of smut that had me wanting to die
✅ “Trust the process” energy she refuses to learn
✅ Emotional carnage and a feral ending

This book crawled under my skin and refused to leave. The tone is grief-soaked, tense, and hot in a way that hurts. Every chapter builds that slow, unbearable friction between control and chaos. The FMC is raw and self-destructive, clawing her way through trauma while three men - Darius with his soft ache, Axel with his violent edge, and Grayson with that calm, commanding danger - orbit her like temptation and punishment rolled together. Each one gets under her skin, and under mine too, because holy fuck the tension is nuclear.

FML. Where is the SMUT?? I know I said it’s a “slow burn” but does this even fucking qualify as that? There’s no full sex, but the heavy petting and filthy talk had me borderline praying for mercy. The author plays psychological edging at a professional level. Every look, every half-touch, every whispered threat feels like foreplay that never ends. I needed a cigarette and a therapist halfway through.

The FMC drove me fucking insane. On one hand I get the trauma, I get the fear. But at some point your fucking gut starts telling you “shit ain’t right” however this chick…..she’s allergic to listening. She’s seen the truth, felt the safety, and still chooses chaos. She’s got main-character syndrome in the worst possible way and I loved every second of hating her choices.

The pacing is tight, the timeline clean, no flashbacks to bail you out. It’s a straight shot through confusion, healing, and heartbreak. The writing keeps you guessing, twisting, obsessing until your head’s spinning and your jaw’s clenched. By the time I hit the last page, I was vibrating with frustration, awe, and pure feral energy.

And a PSA for my fellow chaos readers: go in blind. Don’t read Goodreads reviews if you can help it. I kept this one broad for a reason. You’ll piece it together as you go, the author makes damn sure of it, but the reveal deserves to hit you fresh. I spoiled myself too early and lost that gut-punch of a shock. I’d sell my soul to experience that moment clean again.

This story is messy, hot, and smart. It’s emotional torture disguised as a slow burn, and I fucking loved it. That ending wrecked me in the best way. If you’re brave enough for zero release and maximum tension, welcome to hell - she’s waiting for you there.

🌶️🌶️

Straight away, the prologue gets you right in the feels with just 3 words, that’s when you know this book is going to take you on a ride.

I read this in just over 5 hours because I COULD NOT put it down. The writing style is so easy to read but also takes you on that emotional rollercoaster. I found myself tearing up a few times throughout, but the twist; that left me with my jaw on the floor. The cliffhanger is unfair but set up so well that I will be thinking about this for days!

“You can’t play with monsters unless you’re willing to become one yourself.”

“But not me, I am here to push your limits. To make you realize, everything that you need is right in front of your face.”

Holy cow. You'd think that when she's confronted with the fact that her brother and boyfriend were murdered and her best friends have been raped and groomed to be sex trafficked, she would think twice about not trusting her boyfriend's brothers. Yes, they're hiding things from her. Yes, they're all hopelessly in love with her and take actual beatings for her. Yes, her dead brother warned her off of them because he knew they were in love with her (but that was just overprotective older brother bs). But seriously!! Think, girl! Do you have a freaking death wish? Do you want to get raped? Do you want to get sex trafficked? Are you trying to get these men who love you KILLED? Because that's what your stupidity is leading to.

Holy cow. I had to dnf at 94% because I just couldn't take her anymore.

Holy shit. Spoilers.

Why do I love a good time loop? I hate amnesia or forgotten memory trope but time loop? Sign my ass up. So let's get into it.

I am hoping our FMC is less annoying in book two because this one was rough. Her time loop and her super naive nature had me crawling out of my skin screaming at the screen wanting her to just not be an idiot. I could not imagine being the guys going through this 99 other times. I would have lost my damned mind. She also just continues to make the most idiotic decisions. Even if you didn't like the guys or know them why would you try and take on a group of murderers all by yourself. That is dumb no matter how many times you have lived a loop.

As for the guys. No notes. Love the places they are slotted into. I'm pretty impatient so I think I would've snapped if I was them and just told her what was happening though I'm sure they tried that around round 22. But hey. It is so sad they have lived years in her loop and fallen in love with her at her absolute worst. She is just depressed and annoying and here we are, trying again.

Also, the star wishing being the reason they have a restart? INSANE. love this. And every time she dies and goes to Tripp and her brother (sobsss).

I am excited to see where this goes and wish I would've realized the second book wasn't out.

Oh I am so mad right now. The way this book ends, it's technically not a cliffhanger but it is. Was I expecting everything that was said in this book. Was I expecting everything I read, no I honestly wasn't. But oh my how good this book was! I have read another book from Sage and I loved it. Clearly I love her style. Again she had me in a chokehold in this book. I couldn't put it down I had to know what happened. Like I had a sense of what was going to happen or more of what I thought was happening. But with some of the stuff that was pointed out I was like I didn't expect that at all.

Honestly you guys need to read this book. I think there's a second book to the series that's coming out soon and I really need to figure out what happens. I hope it goes off of what happened at the end of this book because if you're expecting an HEA. You're kind of get it, but kind of not!!! Honestly if you love a murder mystery, love story, boyfriend's brother type of book. This is the book for you. But get ready to be like looking at the blank screen once you're done reading it. Because I didn't expect it to end like that!!

This book was not what I was expecting, when it first started I did not expect what you learn at about 80% in. Sunday is wrecked by the death of her brother and boyfriend, and has no clue that, that is just the start of unexpected crazy events. She has to learn to trust people she thought didn’t like her, while discovering truths and feeling a weird sense of Deja Vu and not knowing why everything already feels so familiar! If you pick this book up I highly recommend grabbing book two at the same time, because you are left on a cliffhanger and will want to immediately start reading book two! This was also a really quick read (less than 250 pages) but it grabs your attention and has you wanting to know what happens next….or attempt to piece together things Sunday is learning along the way.

If Sage writes it I WILL read it and rush to buy it!

I loved this book! From the very first page I was lost in the story! The plot flows so well and I was so invested in the characters and what was happening! The writing is clear and it is easy to get immersed into the book!

There was mystery, push and pull, spice, drama and 3 HOT brothers who all have different personalities and cute nicknames for the FMC! I do not blame our heroine for wanting them all! Who wouldn’t?

I am waiting not so patiently for the next book!

TBH I can’t wait for ALL of Sage’s next books!

Awesome writing, awesome books and an even more awesome of an author!

Amazing Story!!!!!

Oh my goodness this was so good. I never expected this story to have so many twists and turns that it does. Sunday is a character that you love but also want to shake as she is sweet and kind but also has a stubborn streak a mile wide. Then we Axel, Grayson, and Darius who are really keeping things from Sunday. This story will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. It pulled me in right from the beginning and didn’t let go. It ends in a major cliffhanger that has me absolutely excited for the next book.

mind blown!

Woah!! I was not expecting that. I loved the thrill of the unknown ride. What random and mysterious events happen, enough to predict and anticipate them before they happen. While you’re trying to decipher if you’re in a time loop or someone time travels, Sunday is also trying to piece things together and find what the O’Brien brothers are hiding. Wow, I’m just speechless with that ending. I love that Grayson finally told her everything, but will it be enough??? 🥺❤️‍🩹

Started off strong but it lacks relationship, character, and plot development and relies on the twists too much to tell their story. The relationship, due to said twist, is just way too insta for me and I wasn’t feeling the chemistry. I’ll read book two though because there was enough here to make me curious, it just won’t be for the underdeveloped romance, because I’m curious about how the plot wraps up. Major points for this being a mostly single POV RH book which are so rare nowadays!!

Overall: 2.5

I could not put this book down! The characters are to die for and the plot was full of suspense. I was on the edge of my seat never knowing what was coming next. The massive plot twist that brings everything together at the end of the book was mind blowing!!

A solid start with an intriguing mix of grief, mystery, and romance. I enjoyed the mystery element and the “why choose” dynamic with the O’Brien brothers, but I couldn’t connect with Sunday’s character at all.

At times, the story felt like it was going in circles without much purpose. Overall, it’s a decent read with potential, but it just didn’t quite land for me. I’ll likely pick up the sequel eventually.. just not right away.

I don’t know what I was expecting going into this but it was SO good, read in two days
This is more on the emotional side of Sages work (check TW’s) but none the less a crazy good story!
The FMC, Sunday, is grieving the loss of her brother Auggie & her first love Tripp. Little does she know what happened and who will truly be by her side, when it doesn’t go her way.

So the genre I’m generally not into, has me questioning whether I should change it up. The start up has quite a few characters which developed into significant pieces of the story. A twist at the end was not expected, but was definitely there for it!

With said twist… I feel like this is worth a reread! Highly recommended!

Sage, you are killing me! This book was absolutely amazing!! It's a slow-burn, why choose romance and a mystery that keeps you guessing. I was on the edge of my seat for this entire book, and now I have to wait for the sequel!! Buckle up for a roller coaster of emotions, 3 sexy brothers, and one GIANT cliffhanger.

This was an unexpected surprise. This was the first book I have read by this author and I can firmly tell you that it will not be the last. I love everything this book had to offer from the slowburn to the mystery aspect of it, to the twist and the cliffhanger. The twist was unexpected and I cannot wait to see where Sage takes this series.
