Stephanie lives in the Midwest with her husband, James, and her daughter, whom she homeschools. She treasures time with her son and daughter-in-law and loves playing with her twin grandsons. Alongside nurturing godly character in her own children, she has had the privilege of mentoring teens and young women throughout much of her Christian life. Over the years, she has also led and participated in a variety of prayer ministries. Since its inception, she has served on the prayer team at Jennifer's Harbor in addition to various other roles, and more recently she joined the team as their lead editor.
Whether she's tending vegetables and herbs in her garden or creating something delicious and healing in the kitchen, she finds joy in the simple, meaningful rhythms of life. As a licensed massage therapist, she is honored to walk with others on their journey toward health and wholeness—spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically.
Becoming an author was a dream she didn’t know she had. She always loved writing, but it was through teaching her children to write well that her passion deepened and her skills sharpened. When God began nudging her to share all she'd learned about cultivating Christlike character, she resisted at first—she knew nothing about publishing a book! But as He often does, God won her heart, she surrendered, and Off with the Old, On with the New was born. It’s been an adventurous and faith-building journey ever since.
For a woman who is working on developing her children’s characters, I am over the MOON with what I have learned from reading Off with the Old On with the New! This book gives you the tools and helps guide you for disciplining your children with an approach to learning and learning on God. I really appreciate the contrast Stephanie uses when distinguishing the difference between the “old character quality” to the “new character quality”. She gives a great understanding of the words and reflecting on scripture on how to be transformed from old character to new character quality. For anyone who is looking for a way to break from old habits and continue to grow with God through his word when teaching your children discipline, this is a MUST!
Raising children, so I hear, is the most character-forming tool used by the Lord in our sanctification. What parent wouldn’t want a clear, direct guide encouraging the formation of good character traits in replacement for the all-too-natural traits of the flesh?
(No one has to teach kids those traits. I’m still in need of the Anger vs Self-Control chapter, the Resourcefulness vs Wastefulness chapter, Decisiveness vs Double-Mindedness, and so on…)
I’m fully expecting that this book will be used for small group study as well as rearing children, since it has so much to do with training disciples in the faith. I do appreciate the author’s realistic perspective, and affirm that teaching good principles is not a guarantee of positive results….and also that the Word does not return to Him void/without effect.
The Spirit is needed for real application from the heart, but it’s so helpful to have the right tools!
Off with the Old, On with the New is a refreshing reminder that parenting is about shaping hearts, not just correcting behavior. This biblically grounded guide gives parents simple, practical tools to help their children grow in Christ-like character—replacing negative habits with godly ones.
What stands out most is the focus on true heart transformation and intentional discipleship. It offers both encouragement and structure for parents who want to raise their children with purpose, consistency, and faith at the center of their home.
If you’re a parent who desires to build a family culture rooted in Scripture, love, and spiritual growth, this book is an excellent resource to have on your shelf.
