Kip 3 (Kip Callahan) by John Deacon is a great conclusion to the Kip Callahan series. It's well written, the action is ongoing from the first paragraph on the first page to the last, with a mystery that will surprise you and blow your mind at out deep the corruption goes and how far justice or silent justice works in the background to break the back of the Many throughout the west and beyond.
The main characters are ones that come across as everyday people that stand together to bring justice to those who are unable to defend themselves at the sametime destroying the criminal organization that thrive on taking advantage of the weaker people whether through extortion, thief, kidnapping, drugs, and murder. Kip and Ursula team up in San Francisco to help with a victim of kidnapping and serious drug abuse that has left her stupid, confused, and willing to throw her life away to maintain her drug induced euphoria.
High society young girls living on the wild side going out on the town without a chaperone hitting saloons and Chinese opium drug den looking for fun and excitement in all the wrong places find themselves at the mercy of a ruthless criminal organization run by Malloy who has been working in the background throughout the west running criminal enterprises raging from human trafficking, horses and cattle thieves, land grabs by force, extortion and blackmail, and gangs running rampant causing chaos in the larger cities. With Kip and Ursula as a team, they are unstoppable giving the bad guys a lesson in what true justice is.
This is a great western book and series that pretty much has it all for those who love a great western mystery thriller with a touch of romance. I know I truly savored every minute reading this book and series and hope you will also.
Quotes: "A hardworking, trustworthy man with a good head on his shoulders ends up with a lot of of options, and choosing your own trail is one of the finest things in life, a cornerstone to happiness."
"A man's life is aways fuller with a dog in it."
Do the right thing always and help make the west a better place."
With KIP 3, author John Deacon has firmly established a new heroic character in American Western Literature. Deacon tells highly readable and enjoyable stories with firmly crafted characters, vivid descriptions of the locales, and first-rate action. This last of three books in the trilogy captured my imagination from the first paragraph and held my attention to the very last sentence. Kip follows a difficult physical and moral trail halfway across the continent from San Antonio to Los Angeles to the steamy flesh pots of Barbary Coast San Francisco in the second half of the Nineteenth Century. Accompanied by his best friend's sister, with whom you hope he establishes a lasting relationship, Kip Callahan pursues a difficult task to locate and, if possible, rescue a missing young heiress lost in that city. He encounters street gangs, murderous thugs and clearly defined. even Dickensian villains who pose perilous dilemmas for our hero, testing his physical and emotional strength through a series of confrontations that...well, you will have to read KIP 3 to find out how the story turns out. You shalll enjoy your journey and will NOT waste your time. Mr. Deacon, "may I have more...please?"
A terrific ending to this very interesting series. I highly recommend you reading Kip and Kip 2, first. Justice is convinced Kip would make a good member of the silent justice team, so Kip and Ursula are in Austin for him to meet Doc. There is a girl from a very rich and influential family missing in San Francisco and Doc wants Kip to track her down, rescuing her if necessary. Ursula will not be left behind and indeed, becomes very important in completing the mission. But why did Doc put them up in a hotel in the seediest part of town. An area with warring gangs and opium dens? Kip doesn't waste any time getting into the very trouble he promised Doc he would try to avoid. Who is in charge of the gangs? Malloy and the Many, that's who. Can Kip rescue the girl and take down Malloy? Seems impossible. Page turning adventure you won't want to miss.
Book 3 gets John Deacon 5 STARS for his excellent wrap up of his thrilling Series: Kip Callahan. A rip roaring look at several states during the old west era with Texas & California being the main ones our characters were located in during the time of the book. Mostly San Francisco which was called: The Paris of the West. It was amazing how varied the people & the city itself was during the actual time period this book was written about. Devil's Acre was a real area in the city & there are references that actually support the women & their actions in the windows in what they considered their alley as described in the book.
Fast paced, page turner, action packed with knife fights & more, plus drama, drama, & drama. With sprinkles of friendship, justice, & a dash of romance.
Entire series reads with a fast pace. One adventure after another! Its great to read adventures with good men and women. Interesting plots with unsuspecting twist and turns. Lots of action in the cowboy's wild West. John Deacon knows how to paint a picture with his words as he describes the old West and his characters that are real with human failings and morals that keep them focused on what is important to build a future for themselves and their friends. "Riding for the brand" is still important today.
Two books are Western and the third is “wharf wars?”
Book three was very different. Living poor and ragged in the San Francisco wharf area would be a pretty depressing life—especially among all the different type of rats (human and rodent). I am not sure that Callahan could really fit in there. I am glad he made a good choice on what to do in life. What a dirty, violent, ratty place that part of San Francisco was. Life had no meaning. Very sad for those born to it and all the poor orphans who had to grow up there.
It's November, 2025 and I have finished all of John Deacons books available so far on Kindle Unlimited. His books were well worth my subscription to Unlimited, in fact I read them so fast I know I got the better deal from Amazon. I truly appreciated his theme of always trying to do the 'right thing'. I enjoyed his expression of human connections and the importance of having loved ones, family, extended family as the primary importance in a persons life. Thank you, John, for this reading experience.
I stumbled across Mr Deacon's work with the Lobo series and enjoyed it immensely, thus my attraction to Kip. The writing is tight, and the spelling is correct. Additionally, the grammar is correct, something many self-published books lack. This is a coming-of-age novel in three parts. I liked the way each story flowed and you COULD read each novel independent of the rest of the books. I don't recommend doing that, but with a series, you never know.
John So wonderful to find a new book from you never a dull moment to spare. Keeps me from doing things I need to do but don't want to do. Has made my mind kept occupied a little easier since I lost my soul mate. Life wasn't meant to spend it alone and it has been a hard and lonely road and if I didn't love to read I just might have not made it. Thank you! Faye kelly
This series, Kip 1,2 and 3 were fast paced, captivating, and I hardly put it down long enough to eat or sleep. I really appreciated the focus on God's Word. Refreshing and seldom found. I will read his other series as these were my first time reading John Deacon books and would recommend them to anyone regardless of age or gender.
This finishes up Kid's story and what a great finish. Exciting with twist and turns to keep you on your toes. Great character continue from the first two books with a few new ones thrown in to love and hate. I cannot recommend this book any higher. But please read in order so you will get the whole story!
I love love love your books. Kip Callahan was a rip roaring, justice loving big brute of a hero. I just wish you could write them as fast as I could read them. I have read EVERYTHING you have written and crave more. Thanks for many wonderful hours of entertainment. Now get busy, I am ready for the next one.
I have been waiting for this final book in the series. It was definitely worth the wait! I wasn’t disappointed! I loved all the new characters even though most of them were evil. Some were downright scary! These three books about Kip were a good wrap up to the Provider series also. Wrapped up with a big bow! I loved all of it!
I so enjoy reading a series of books with a cast of characters that are warriors of their craft. The stories moving from location to location to become entwined with another tale always filled action. I have been a Kindle reader for several years and have been most amazed an pleased at the selection of authors there are at ones finger tips. A true gift.
Just finished reading Kip 3 and couldn’t put it down. All three books were intriguing and enjoyed reading the series. Like all of John Deacons other characters Kip was a true western hero. I recommend all three of the Kip books. Enjoy reading a true western story.
The story was as good as all the others. I really like your writing style. Kip had a hard time with all the !sadness of the gangs. Young boys and men that had no other choice. Glad it all turned put so good. Liked the ending, because Lip finally had tome to do his thing, making a life and family. Thank you for a great read.
If you have other things to do then walk away from John Season's series! Lip 3 was AWESOME!!
There were so many twists, turns and everything from page one until the very last! Next up Destitution series, Logo 1-3 and finally, at least so far, the Heck series. What a great way to get through this arctic Michigan winter.
Kip is a series of three books, best read in order. The usual poor kid works hard to improve his life. He becomes a Cowboy, rides for the Brand then moves on finding happiness in the end. Plenty of fights, gun battles and mayhem. Try it. I think you might like it.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series and so thankful it was recommended. Kip and Ursula are a magical story, and truly another amazing story from John Deacon. Couldn’t be more pleased with this, really hard to put down. Can’t wait to see what John Deacon comes up with next!
Some stories you just don't want to come to an end...
This one had it all! Such a thrilling, action filled, soul fulfilling western by-the-way-of-big-city love story. I hope to see a few mentions of the Bullards, Callahans & Bentleys in future stories. (hint hint). They just can't be gone forever.
This unbelievable Series is by far my favorite new Western Romance Author is easily 5 Star Rated each and every Book. Thank you for this wonderful time reading the captivating Story lines. The ending was much greater than I expected and the best all together of any that I have read. Choking up this 77 year old Cowboy with such kindness and live!!!
This series was good reading. I'm glad to get to read it and recommend reading the provider first as it is a continuous story. loved the characters and plot. I recommend this series.
And it was I really enjoyed this book pity it had to end just as it was getting interesting hurry up and get something else as good hopefully it’d Kip again doing what he does best .
These characters are unique Strong, but not showing it, just making it count in good ways. I am very disappointed the Kip series is finished. Am looking forward to your next series.
Another good read from John Deacon. The Provider and now this sequel of Oil have been great clean reading. Thank you for the absence of profanity and for your love of the Lord Jesus. He is all any of us need.
This story, set in the old West, seems to prove the theory that things don't change that much from one time period to another. Evil people are like weeds, no matter how many you pull out of the garden, they just keep coming back.
