Rate this book
With this all-in-one guide, workbook, and journal, you'll be able to turn life’s challenges into golden opportunities through shadow work, ultimately transforming into the best version of yourselfEveryone has a dark side – that part of yourself you’re not quite proud of and try to hide from others.

For some, this trait is a lack of self-love… for others, it’s past events that still haunt them, often rooted in the wounds of their inner child.

And many wish they could keep their “dark” traits – or shadow self – under wraps.

However, this side of yourself shouldn’t be ignored no matter how they make you feel. In fact, there are more consequences for ignoring your shadows than accepting them.

For example, crying from sadness and lashing out as a result of anger can come out at the most unpredictable and inconvenient of times when you push these emotions under the surface and refuse to acknowledge and truly feel them.

So how do you resolve this problem?

The answer is simple – there is no better way to embrace your dark side than through shadow work.

Don’t be intimidated by the concept of exploring your “inner darkness”—there’s nothing wrong with uncovering, acknowledging, and understanding your full self.

Psychoanalyst Carl Jung is often credited for conceptualizing the practice of shadow work and giving us a practical framework to use when tapping into this hidden identity. The framework involves accepting that you have a dark side and taking the steps to learn more about this aspect of yourself.

Fortunately, this book equips you with all the essentials for embracing your emotions and shadows through a simple yet effective personal growth technique. It caters to both beginners and experienced readers alike, offering a deep dive into navigating the depths of your inner self, suitable for men, women, and couples.

Not only is this book extremely well researched, evidence-based, and beautifully written and formatted, it's incredibly in-depth. It does a deep dive into shadow work, referring to Jung's archetypes, and offers self-awareness prompts at the end of every chapter. The author consistently suggests self compassion, intuitive drawing, and journal writing throughout the phases of shadow work. As a reader, I felt she was right there beside me, walking me through a valuable process. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is psychologically-minded.

"Self-actualization the process of becoming who you truly are, is the closest that you will get to perfection."

Since there is no such thing as perfection, this helps you on a journey of self-actualization. It is about accepting your journey ... even the darkest moments. By truly accepting them (not judging them or pushing them away) you are able to feel calm in your life. It helps you see "triggers" and then it allows you to be aware of them so that your reaction or response can be different moving forward.

I found this very helpful on many levels. I re-visited things that I hadn't truly taken the time to fully understand. The explanations are gentle and encouraging. And the prompts are thought-provoking. Would recommend to anyone who wants to be a better version of themselves.

As someone who is always growing and peeling back the next layer of the "onion", I enjoy finding resources to help me do that. When it comes to shadow work, this is one of the best resources I've seen. Rather than getting bogged down in Jungian philosophy, it gets right into the nitty gritty of doing the work.
