The Legend of the Return

Rate this book
Annabelle is a teen-aged girl who feels like a misfit most of the time. Her difficulties with friendship and trust are put fully to the test when she discovers a dragon hiding in the woods behind her home, and a strange and powerful bond forms between them. When this beautiful and enchanting creature is joined by a fellow ally from a far-away world called Qi^Ba^Ru, they invite Annabelle to go on an adventure she couldn’t possibly imagine.

The dragon speaks of a legend of her return to a world that was once well known to her ancestors and explains that her human family is in great danger. An evil war lord from this world, Daramac, has dedicated his life to putting an end to humankind, and he may have finally found a way to get to Annabelle’s world and complete his mission. Full of fear, mistrust, and uncertainty, Annabelle embarks on this quest, relying more and more on the bonds she has formed with the dragon, Arielle, and the half-elf, Doogal.

Once in Qi^Ba^Ru, Doogal, Arielle and Annabelle hope to recover Daramac’s greatest hidden treasure - the stolen golden eggs which hold the last of the female dragons of their time. The Legend of The Return paints Annabelle as the hero of the story, but she cannot believe it to be true. She is just a girl who misses her mom, and who feels afraid and unsure. This bond she has formed with her dragon, Arielle, is changing her, though. Maybe, when fueled by love and trust, anything is possible. Maybe their love is even strong enough to overcome great evil. As Annabelle faces this strange new world, she must find courage, confidence, and love within.

When my friend Patti (Patricia A. MacDonald) first told me she had published a book about dragons with Rachel Dobberstein whom I’ve known since she was a very young lady; I was so excited and proud of them! I am a huge fantasy fan #fourthwing #harrypotter #outlander and love me a good dragon story.
I have followed Patti’s storytelling on her social media pages for years and already knew she could capture an audience with her thoughtful, detailed, comical and genuine tales. As soon as the e-book dropped I immediately ordered it and began the journey to Qi^Ba^Ru with Annabelle the Dragon rider and Doogle the half elf!
As most books begin, the first few chapters set up the storyline and peaked my interest when Arielle the ‘diamond-eyed’ dragon was revealed. By chapter five, Annabel, Doogle and Arielle launched through the portal between earth and Qi^Ba^Ru to take on the evil Daramac and reunite humans and dragons after hundreds of years of war and separation.

The author pulls the reader over mountainous terrain, into purple pools of healing waters, and into caverns and homes built by elves, dwarfs and half humans. She gradually builds the main character’s physical strength through treks and torture, her self-confidence and self-esteem by doing things she never dreamed she was capable of, and all the while, was building up the female characters as the heroins they should be! The awkward and lonely earth child becomes the unsung hero in her new world and develops a sacred bond with a beautiful dragon working to protect the golden eggs that secure the future of dragon riders and earth itself.

When I read e-books I love to highlight my favourite sentences and when Arielle tells Annabelle, “I see living beings with my inner eye. They’re balls of energy that radiate from the central energy source, the heart. Dark colours represent dark feelings, like anger and hatred. Bright colours represent love, kindness and peace”, this is a direct reflection of the author as I know her. She believes in, and lives in, the bright colours of the world and her writing reflects this. She sets evil on its heals and puts it in its rightful place through her actions in life and her words in her writing all while fiercely protecting her family, friends and women’s rights.

The journey with Annabelle isn’t finished with this book. Readers will fall in love with her and her dragon and of course her new best friend Doogle, and will want to find out what happens after the Legend returns to Qi^Ba^Ru to reestablish the beautiful human/dragon connection. Unlike other dragon books, this one gives the reader a deeper understanding of the bond that builds between rider and dragon and the magic they can create with love instead of war, as the key to their special relationship.

A must read for all fantasy dragon lovers - adults and young adults alike!
True confession… as soon as the paperback became available I reread the book a second time and asked my dear friend Patti when she was selling the movie rights!!! 5/5 Enjoy!

The book was written by a friend of mine. She has always been a very good story teller with intrigue and excitement. In her book of Fantasy she hit all the marks. With detail excitement and what was happening with the characters. The ending wasn't what I expected it was very good and left me wanting to read more. This book is one of the trilogy can't wait for thr 2nd book. Well deserved for her to be published after all her real life story telling.
