The roar of the twenties escalated to a mighty SKREONK as Godzilla attacked the party of the wrong man and hurt the wrong lady. Now Jay Gatsby has enlisted the help of SHERLOCK HOLMES, THOMAS EDISON, JULES VERNE, THE TIME MACHINIST, and more to put an end to the Godzilla threat once and for all. Watch as our new team travels twenty thousand leagues under the sea and turns Paris into the ultimate Godzilla trap in this thrilling feat of cartooning by the unrivaled Tom Scioli.
This has been a classic’s fever dream. I feel like I just see everything as a parody of an old timey steampunk TV program. My only gripe is I wish there was a bit more to Jules Vern. I enjoyed ~le dialogúe~ from him. Dracula’s introduction with Sherlock Holmes makes me stoked for the next classic monsters to also being fighting (with?) Godzilla.
I promise you everything I said was real in this comic guys.
The hilariously surreal delirium that is Tom Scioli's take on literary characters surviving a Godzilla attack continues strong with its second issue. Jay Gatsby has assembled a team of Sherlock Holmes, Jules Verne, The Time Machinist and more to take on Godzilla. Traveling to Paris via submarine, the team sets a trap for the monster that'll be shown in the final issue of the series. Scioli's dialogue is crafty and ingenious, weaving in subtle references to the works being aped whilst also delivering a campy kaiju thriller tale. With his stilted retro artwork to go along with it, this book continues to be a unique take on Godzilla.
I remain enthusiastic about this series even if I don't approve of a certain casualty in this episode. I guess there are also a few awkward transitions, particularly after the elaborate Paris vs. Godzilla sequence. It just ends and we are told it wasn't a success, and Verne is just dead???
I love the idea of bringing in Dracula to hypnotize Godzilla, though. My gosh, genius. Love the art. Love the quirkiness. Love it.

This series feels like a fever dream at times but like the best fever dream because Godzilla is there and he's fighting all your favorite literary characters.
