Search and rescue and love…
Searching for the son he didn’t know he had…
When tribal accountant Wynona Blackhorse realizes her son has been kidnapped, she has little choice but to call the only man who can find him. Her son’s father, Chase Sullivan. She’s willing to face the consequences, knowing nothing is more important than finding her four-year-old-son.
Chase Sullivan is furious with Wynona for keeping his son a secret, but all that matters now is doing everything possible to find the little boy. Chase knows his K9 Rocky is an excellent tracker, but the Wind River reservation is large and desolate. As he and Wynona follow clues as to where Eli has been, the case grows more convoluted. Time is not on their side. Will taking down the kidnappers bring Chase and Wynona closer together? Or tear them apart, forever?
The nightmare of every parent - the kidnapping of your young child! That's what Wyn faces when she goes to pick up her son from her son's caregiver after work, only to find the caregiver knocked out and her son gone! She can't figure out what the kidnapper would want! She lives on the reservation, she doesn't have much money and she lives a quiet life. She is forced to tell her son's father, Chase Sullivan, that he has a son. She's never told him after they broke up! But, Chase and his siblings have a business of search & rescue dogs and she feels that it's the only way her son will be found. I can only imagine how Chase would feel! To find out you have a son when he's kidnapped! The stress & anxiety to not only find the child but the surprise of processing that you have a son! Chase and Wyn have to put their own feelings on the back burner and focus on finding Eli. I enjoyed how they worked the case together while also calling in all the people they knew in different agencies. They didn't rely on just themselves. Chase's dog, Rocky, was amazing! I love these K-9's that are featured in this series. Discovering each of their personalities has been a highlight for me as I read the books.
Wyn comes home from work to find that her 4-year-old son Eli has been kidnapped. She calls on her old boyfriend Chase and his search and rescue Norwegian Elkhound Rocky along to help find him. Chase doesn't realize at first that he is the boy's father. This is the first time I have seen this dog breed used in a story and I love it. We had a dog that was half Norwegian Elkhound and half lab who was a great dog. Also, I liked seeing the little power struggles between Chase and Rocky. Chase and Wyn seem to be one step behind the kidnappers at every turn even with Rocky's super sniffing abilities. Can they find Eli before it's too late?
The pace is breakneck and the tone is intense with an action and character oriented storyline that has a few kisses. The characters are vivid and engaging, especially Eli and Rocky. The Christian ideals are a part of the story. Read this series in order. Then if you want to read others that happened before this series but in !Milwaukee, read the following in order: SWAT Top Cops, Callahan Confidential, Finnegan First Responders and then Oath of Honor.
Secrets and lies led to the kidnapping of Eli. Chase, Wynona and Rocky are racing against the clock and fighting the odds to find him. Chase and Wynona have a complex history, their love may have been on hold for the last five years but even the secrets that are revealed cannot destroy it, it's a deep love that is protected by faith and survives through time, distance and heartbreak. As much as I enjoyed getting to know Chase and Wyn, it was Eli and Rocky that stole my heart. Eli may have difficulties, but the peek into his mind and thought processes is eye opening, Rocky has a huge personality for a dog and whilst he is stubborn and challenges Chase at every opportunity, he instantly knows Eli is his and the bond they form is beautiful. This is the first book by Laura Scott that I have read but I will be going back to read the first in this series and then investigating more by this author.
Scent of Panic involves a secret child, a kidnapping, an autistic child, and twists and turns. Chase and Wynona have a complicated history spanning 5 years back. They both are determined to find Eli and rely on their faith and God as they search for Eli. It amused me to see the dynamics between Chase and his K9 dog Rocky who was stubborn, and the way Rocky took to Eli was so sweet. I enjoyed reading Eli's perspective and his thoughts and actions. This story was fast-paced with suspense and danger.
I am really liking this series so far. I love stories that have a secret baby/child, so the fact that Chase had no idea that Eli existed before Wyn called him for help made the story all the better.....and the fact that Eli was autistic added another whole interesting aspect to the story.
Very suspenseful and edge of your seat story. When the motive for the kidnapping and the kidnaper's identity was revealed, I was as shocked as the fictional characters Chase and Wyn. Awesome read.
What an excellent and exciting continuation to the Sullivan story. Really enjoyed this adventure of Chase and Wynona. It really gives us romance and suspense that take place one rez. As readers may know the Pueblos as they are known in New Mexico are restricted territory for the native people. Nonresident can be united on properties but they are secure. Such a terrific story , looking forward to reading the next in Scott's series.
Hmm, not as good as many of her other books. I found it quite repetitive and, at times, it contradicted itself. The errors were very glaring to me and off-putting. I found that it was mostly about the dog, not much character development. I didn’t feel a connection with the characters. It was just okay.

This book features a K-9 search and rescue dog and a good story about a kidnapped little boy and the hunt for him. The main characters are smart and determined. There is a renewed romance and a happy ending.
I am enjoying this series, I was a bit upset with Wyn for not telling Chase about Eli. This book had alot of suspense and mysteries. very good book if you have not read the series you may want to.
This is a good mystery with a simultaneous second chance romance with Wynona and Chase. I love the idea of the Sullivans and their Search and Rescue dogs and am enjoying reading each of the sibling’s stories.
Chase and Rocky are a funny duo! Loved reading about how well trained Rocky was, but still with a stubborn streak of his own. Terror and excitement follow as an old flame calls Chase out of the blue for help. Read and enjoy !
I really enjoyed this book dealing with interactions between government and Native American people. Working together to find a missing child. Grab a copy and get immersed in the family dynamics dealings go rescue a sweet little boy
This book features another member of the Sullivan Search and Rescue family and is a page turner too. I an already reading the third book in this series and fully plan to finish the series in the near future. These are really good books. Enjoy!!
Missing child, Indian Reservation, Unresolved past - all three woven together to form a riveting LIS novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, but Iistened to the audiobook version and the narrator's adaption of a woman voice grated on my nerves.
This book grabs you on page one and you don’t want to put it down.
The story is well written and the characters are wonderful. You’ll get some great laughs getting to know K9 Rocky. It leaves you with a happy, light feeling.
When Eli is kidnapped the first person his mother called was the father . He and his K9 dog came to help. There are surprises through out the book, including the kidnapper reason.
Action packed. Can’t wait to read rest of series. I love the way the dogs are so central to the plots and we can learn so much from their loyalty. They are so well trained.
