Alternate cover edition of ASIN B0DMKMLTW8

Hunter Holloway has always thrived on control—over his life, his secrets, and the quiet suburb he calls home. But control is a fragile thing, and it starts slipping when he becomes fixated on his new neighbor, Vincent Winslow. A surgeon with an impeccable reputation, Vincent seems perfect on the surface. Too perfect.

What begins as idle curiosity turns into a dangerous obsession. Hunter can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t right about Vincent. The man is hiding something, and Hunter is determined to find out what. But the deeper he digs, the darker things become. Strange notes, missing people, and shadows lurking at the edge of reason—all signs that Hunter’s not just watching a man; he’s unraveling a web of secrets more sinister than he ever imagined.
At home, Hunter’s wife, Mary, begins to sense something is wrong. Once the rock that grounded him, Mary is now distant, struggling to understand the growing divide between them. She knows Hunter is keeping secrets, and the more he withdraws, the more Mary becomes entangled in the mystery herself. But Mary has secrets of her own—ones she’s kept hidden for far too long.

As Hunter’s surveillance spirals into a deadly game, two detectives, Margot and Turner, enter the picture. They’re investigating a string of brutal crimes in the area, and their questions bring Hunter dangerously close to the edge. Margot is sharp and relentless, keenly aware that not everything about Hunter adds up. Turner is methodical, quietly unraveling the case as the walls close in. They sense the pieces don’t fit, and Hunter finds himself playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the very people who could expose him.

Then there’s Emily—the quiet, enigmatic maid working in Hunter’s home. There’s something about her that doesn’t sit right, something that ties her to Vincent in ways Hunter never anticipated. Is she the key to unraveling Vincent’s secrets, or is she the one pulling the strings from the shadows?

Caught between the detectives’ probing questions, Mary’s growing suspicions, and the spiraling danger surrounding Vincent, Hunter starts to question his own sanity. The closer he gets to the truth, the more everything he thought he knew begins to unravel. Is he still the hunter in this deadly game, or has he become the prey?
With every step, the stakes rise, and the lines between guilt and innocence blur. Secrets are deadly, and in this twisted game, not everyone will make it out alive.

Victor Peter strikes again with Hunter, a gripping psychological thriller that will leave you questioning everyone’s motives—including your own.

Hunter Holloway’s descent into paranoia and obsession is both chilling and captivating. Peters masterfully captures the unraveling of control in a character who thrives on order, crafting a narrative that is as suspenseful as it is unsettling. The dynamic between Hunter and his enigmatic neighbor Vincent Winslow is a masterclass in tension, pulling readers into a dark web of suspicion, danger, and buried truths.

But it’s not just Hunter’s story that holds the spotlight. Mary Holloway, his wife, adds a layer of emotional complexity. As her husband spirals, Mary’s own secrets and struggles bring an unexpected twist to the narrative. Peters balances the domestic with the sinister, creating a tale that is deeply human while steeped in mystery.

With sharp prose and relentless pacing, Hunter is a thrilling addition to the JAKE series, proving once again that Peters knows how to keep his readers on the edge of their seats. If you’re a fan of dark secrets, psychological games, and stories that keep you guessing until the last page, this book is a must-read.

Hunter takes you on a journey of madness as he realizes his past has caught up with his present. As the story goes along Hunter becomes more desperate and unravels more and more. Overall I am giving this 4 stars, having had the opportunity to read JAKE prior to this I found myself comparing the two and while I think I understood what was happening in HUNTER more than in JAKE, I'm left feeling like I missed something and feeling like I need to re read to figure out what I missed. I am looking forward to ELIZA though and I feel like I understand more of her character already.

"Hunter" by Victor Peter is a great thriller. This book is the second in the Jake series. This book has many twist and turns and keeps you guess throughout.
Hunter is obsessed with his neighbor and is always watching him. As he finds out more about his neighbor he starts to get deeper into his obsession. The more he finds out the more he has to fit into his way of thinking. As his world starts to crumble he has to make a choice.
Highly recommend to anyone that loves psychological thrillers and likes to figure out what is happening.

Hunter
-Victor Peter

Here we go again, Peter has given us another truly enthralling novel that is full of intense action and gripping exploration into the human spirit with moral predicaments leaving you questioning everyone around you – maybe even yourself. You will find yourself in a truly dark, delusional psychological thriller from the very beginning and it doesn’t stop until the story ends. I swear, I find myself considering therapy every time I read one of these books.

Hunter takes us on a journey where he is entangled in a world of conspiracy, paranoia, murder and a relentless obsession over new neighbor Vincent after a double murder in the neighborhood occurs. To restore a sense of peace in the neighborhood, Hunter finds himself embroiled in the middle of an intense investigation to figure out the neighbor, Vincent, and find the killer of the double murder – whom he suspects is Vincent. It has become very clear that the stakes are high on this one and every decision Hunter makes is one of life or death.

Peter is an immersive and engaging writer, pulling readers deep into the psychological landscape of the characters from the very start. They are crafted with such intricate detail it makes them feel real, relatable, prompting readers to reflect on their own vulnerability and personal struggles. The pacing is perfect for this story as Peter excels in crafting tension with scenes that are bathed with a sense of urgency, making it difficult to put the book down, naturally encouraging readers to turn just one more page. The plot is captivating and intricately woven, keeping you on the edge of your seat till the end with plot twists that will make your neck hurt.

Hunter is a thought-provoking, captivating read with psychological depth and ethical dilemmas that make one really consider what they would do in such extreme circumstances. If you are looking for a powerful story that will linger with you long past the last page, I highly recommend you grab Hunter - well, Jake and Hunter, and give them a read in preparation for the arrival of Eliza!

Since beginning this series of books, I have been engrossed with the words describing the scenes, the dialogue and the actions of the players of the game. I cannot put my finger on who is really running the show. One minute I think Hunter has everything under control and then some of Vincent’s psychological warfare changes my mind. The author is excellent at getting the reader to become one with whichever character is ‘sharing’ the space at the moment. I could almost feel the tension in the room when Hunter was confronted by various persons in the book. Even descriptions of rooms, the shack and the basement of Vincent’s house is meant to bring the reader into the pages. An example of this is here:
“And there it is—the basement window, cracked open like a mouth frozen mid-scream. A faint, sickly light seeps out, casting twisted shadows on the lawn.” Just reading this sentence at the beginning of the book let me know I was in for a wild ride. I was not disappointed. My mind was swirling with all the goings on; trying to keep track of who did what, who was where, and how did this happen?. I look forward to reading Eliza to see where my mind is taken next.

bold text: Unsettling and Intriguing/b>
paragraph:

The plot of Hunter is filled with suspense and mystery, centered around a gruesome double murder that leaves the neighborhood on edge. As the investigation unfolds, a new neighbor, Vincent, becomes a key figure, but there’s something off about him that doesn’t sit right with the main character. The journals throughout the story offer cryptic glimpses into the protagonist’s mind, taunting the reader with fragmented thoughts and unsettling revelations. These entries only deepen the mystery, pushing you to keep reading to uncover what’s really happening. The combination of the chilling plot and Jake’s haunting journals makes for a story that stays with you long after the final page. This book can be read without reading the first book in the seriies, but it is more fun knowing some of the background of Jake. I read this using an advanced copy, thanks to the author, and in one sitting, I might add. I could not put it down. My husband is reading it now.

A gripping and delusional psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout! The author pulls you into his dark web and submerses the reader in a combination of paranoia, conspiracies and spiraling out of control delusions which create an intense thrill and keep the anticipation high throughout the book. As with his other books, various characters are mentioned again although you don’t need to have read any previous books to enjoy this one. There is just something special about the way Victor Peter writes that draws the reader in and keeps me coming back for more and I simply can’t get enough of his books! The writing is superb and immersive and the pages fly by. The characters are multi-dimensional and I just never seem to be able to guess who the bad ones are! A 5 star read and I highly recommend this book to my fellow thriller readers! You won’t be disappointed!

This is a masterclass in psychological suspense. This second installment in the JAKE series grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go.

The pacing is sharp, the characters are layered and compelling, and each chapter peels back another layer of darkness.

What elevates this story even further is the fantastic narration by Sawyer Varvel. His voice adds a whole new dimension to the suspense, perfectly capturing Hunter’s unraveling mind and the sinister undertones lurking beneath the surface. Varvel’s performance is immersive, nuanced, and absolutely spot-on for this dark and gripping tale.

Just when you think you’ve figured it out, Victor Peter delivers another twist. If you love psychological thrillers with depth, tension, and a haunting atmosphere, Hunter is a must-read—and a must-listen. This book will get under your skin in the best way.

Chilling and Addictive

Hunter is a dark, thrilling ride that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. The story follows Hunter, a man obsessed with uncovering the truth about a strange neighbor, Vincent, and his connection to two brutal murders. As Hunter digs deeper, he realizes he's drawn to the darkness in ways he can't control. The book is full of twists and suspense, with shocking moments that will leave you on the edge of your seat. If you love psychological thrillers with a gripping mystery and dark secrets, this is the book for you!. This is my very first review of a book and I got it for free. But I enjoyed it immensely. I want to read his other book now.

This had all the best bits of a serial killer story. The tension, not knowing what is going to come out of the woodwork and the gore.
Hunter was a great character, so much unraveling right up until the very end.
I didn’t see the twists coming and cannot wait to figure out what the end game is.
I did spend a lot of this story wondering what the hell was going on but it took nothing away from the thrill.
Very almost Dexter.
My favourite part was the weird commentary/narration by Jake chapters. I love the dark humour and the fourth wall breaks. Still creepy but also hilarious.
I already want the next instalment now.

This is book two in the series.

This is one more story that is a gripping mix of horror and psychological thriller that invites readers to confront their own darkness – and does so in a very graphic way.

The book does have an open ending – but I think that’s ok since book three in the series is available already. So, the open ending might not be THAT open after all.

Dive deep into the shadows, but remember: the darkness can be intoxicating. This is a (violent) tale that takes you on an unsettling journey alongside Hunter, an individual doing his best (but is he?) dealing with the shadows lurking both outside and within himself.

Gripping and Haunting

Dark, gripping, and utterly immersive, Hunter is a masterclass in psychological tension and raw storytelling. The visceral prose pulls you into a chilling world where reality and delusion blur, leaving you questioning everything. With deeply flawed yet compelling characters, this book explores themes of control, identity, and the primal nature of humanity in a way that is both haunting and thought-provoking. A must-read for fans of psychological thrillers who crave a story that lingers long after the final page.

Hunter is a dark psychological thriller. Hunter is spiraling with an unhealthy obsession towards his neighbor. The more he finds out about Vincent, the more his brain warps with the information, twisting it to fit his thoughts. There are lies and secrets being held. Hunter's wife also finds herself sucked in to the mystery of what's happening to her husband.
The pacing in this story is great. It kept me captivated and engaged with the story. I loved the domestic part of this story as well. There are so many twists in this, it'll definitely keep you on the edge.

You meet Hunter in Jake. You get a feel for who he is but once you dive into this book you realize everything you thought you knew about him is only scratching the surface. While you read this book and you follow everything closely a twist happens and you're not quite sure if you're on the right track. Much like in Jake you feel the book because it is an experience not just a journey. Happy twisted reading Victor has an adventure for you.

I am grateful to have received a free, advanced reader copy of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily. Another twisted, dark, suspenseful novel from Victor Peter. I very much enjoyed getting to know Hunter after having an introduction to his character, along with many other characters, in the first book. If you like creepy, dark thrillers with plenty of twists, this book is just for you!

Hang on, what?

Book 2 in the series and it just keeps getting better and weirder! I did have trouble following this one at times, almost like he forgot where he was at or added to the story in the wrong spot, but not enough to ruin the book and I'll be getting the next one, I have to see where this goes!

A dark and haunting story that felt a bit rushed, I liked it however. I felt like maybe I missed something having read Jake prior to this one. It’s full of twist and turns.

Hunter is spiralling out of control with an unhealthy obsessed with his neighbor. The deeper it goes the more he loses control.

Reality? It's right in front of you if you know what to look for. You've been given all the clues. Hunter didn't even know. The ending completely blew my sense of who's who. This is definitely one series you don't want to miss.

Felt like a murder mystery than a psychological thriller

The atmosphere was good, it did feel dark and haunting but the writing style and plot felt very rushed.

“Hunter” by Victor Peter is a gripping and intense psychological thriller that really sucked me in. From the moment the game changes for Hunter, I was on the edge of my seat, unsure of what to believe. The story plunges into a maze of uncertainty and paranoia, making me question what is real and who can be trusted. Characters like Victor, Mary, and Emily kept me guessing — each of them seemed to be hiding something, or perhaps, someone. The tension was palpable as Hunter, and by extension, I, struggled to figure out what was truly happening. By the end, I found myself questioning everything. The twists were relentless, and the paranoia felt real. If you're into suspenseful, mind-bending reads, Hunter is definitely worth diving into.
