My heart is beating so fast as I finish the last pages of this volume. This is truly some of the best chapters we ever had in AkaYona. The intensity, the uncertainty, the heartbreak, it makes for the most terrifying path to the ending. And it is insanely good storytelling.

Yona and Zeno confront each other in the saddest fight, as we see more and more of what Zeno truly wanted all this time. But it is the one thing Yona will never give to him: his death. Zeno is such a complex and interesting character, and them entering the Dragon Gods realm together will completely change him, I’m sure of it.

The Dragon Gods are written with the frightening aura of beings outside of humanity’s bounds who have lived for thousands of years. So yes, they are absolutely terrifying. Seeing Yona confront them in this dreamlike space was really interesting, and I really wonder if she will manage to escape alongside the Dragon Warriors. The end is very close, yet very far.

My favorite part of the volume had to be when Hak and Soowon met each other. The way Soowon ran to the castle the moment he learned Hak and Yona were in danger cements him as my favorite character of all times. No matter the years and the rivalry between them, Hak and Soowon will always move in sync, their thoughts clear parallels of each other. They care so much, so deeply, for each other and for Yona. Their friendship will be the bound that will save the Dragons, I’m sure of it. I just pray that Soowon doesn't lose his life in the process.

The problem with only reading manga when it officially releases in English translation in physical copies is that I waited months for this volume, and now I have to sit on that massive cliffhanger until MOTHERFUCKING JULY 😭😭😭😭

Entering the final arc of this beautiful adventure. I hope the dragon warriors and Yona manage to make it out of the chalice and that Su-won doesn’t hit the bucket before he gets to properly say goodbye to Yona and name her his heir.

Also please let Zeno die, dude just wants to rest and deservingly so.

Finally caught up. This one has had me in a choke hold for so long. I still adore it, and this has to be some of the best writing of the entire series. My main issue is this final arc is moving at a snails pace. It's dragging a bit for me lol. I'm in it to the end though. I live here now...

Caution! SPOILERS ahead!

Well, it’s been a while (again). For some reason for the past half a year (or maybe more I’m not sure) we’ve only been getting one chapter a month which kinda sucks. I’ll take that as a sign that this series is finally coming to an end but at this pace the manga won’t be finished by the end of the year. I’m all for authors taking time to finish things properly but in this case it feels a little excessive.

Anyway, back to the actual volume… as I said, this has been going on for a while so I’ll try to summarize things up best I can.

First of all… guess who’s back??? The man, the legend… Mundeok! I love him so I was also really happy to see him. He has some really funny moments in this one which I appreciate (funny things are cool). Him giving Hak tea is chef’s kiss, not to mention the hug which may or may not have made me squeal. I’m also obsessed with the fact that this man is mad that Hak joined the sky tribe.

We also need to talk about Zeno because this dude has problems. Like, no Zeno, you cannot attack my man Hak. It is against the rules and I will not allow it. He’s also suicidal which is terrible. I mean, I get why he does the things that he does but I feel like communication would have helped a lot since they could probably find a less dramatic solution. I feel bad for him and all but still.

I also love the fact that Yona still wants to save the dragons despite all Zeno’s shit. She disappeared on Hak but surely she’ll be fine (right?).

And lastly my man Hak. This dude just wants to help Yona and almost dies (again) because of it. I mean, he almost got trapped in a collapsing building. And somehow Suwon was the one to rush to help? I mean, okay yeah sure, I still don’t like him but I guess he’s done some good things recently. I hope they manage to get the others back (with the power of friendship!!!! or something).

Anyway, it’s really hard to rate this since I read it a while ago. But I do feel like this series has been on a 4-star level for a while now. And this one seems like a pretty good representation of the current state of the manga so 4 stars I guess. I really do hope that we’re nearing the end here though.

Book: Yona of the Dawn, Vol. 45
Author: Mizuho Kusanagi
Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars

This manga is kind of different for me. It’s the first one I have ever caught up to and have to read it chapter by chapter. It’s also hard to remember what happened in which volume. I’ll do my best to keep everything straight.

I am going to try to keep my review as spoiler-free as possible, but as this is the forty-fifth volume in a series, there may be spoilers for earlier volumes.

This one picks right up where volume forty-four left off. Yona and Hak are on a mission to find Zeno. They must return to the place where Zeno started and learn about his past. Everything they have ever known is at stake. Yet, it comes down to the matter of not giving in to what people think they want. Yona finds herself in this very difficult position and has to make a choice that could forever impact their world.

This one was just sad. I think it is because I can sense that the end is near. The emotional impact that this volume had was unlike anything else. I know this is a long series and I should not be surprised with how attached I am to these characters. I love how they have been woven into my heart and how much I have a feeling that the ending is going to hurt.

I love the interactions that the characters have with each other. Despite how everything has played out, you can see the bonds that they have with each other. All of them have been through a lot and they, in a very messed up way, still have each other’s backs. The character growth and depth that we get are unlike anything I have seen in a long time.

Overall, I did enjoy this one a lot. I know my review doesn’t have a lot in it, but it’s hard to keep everything spoiler-free and detailed this late in a series.
